I would ask this question though of my Bearkats or your Cardinals before getting on the lets move up bandwagon, and that is if we are just going to move up to the WAC with all the other Texas SLC schools except maybe SFA what is the point other than being able to say you are now "FBS" and you get to go to a toilet bowl on occassion and possibly bring in a bi name opponent once every 5 or 10 years?

[/quote] The only way that the Texas' and Alabama's of the big time FBS football world come to smaller schools is if the smaller school agree to come to them twice for one trip to their school, that is exactly why Texas went to Wyoming who makes their second trip to Austin in 2012.  So as long as youre willing to give them two trips anything is possible.  But as was stated earlier conference reallignment is eventually gonna push the small FBS schools out entirely and Im sure violate many antitrust laws...

I listened to this on the way home from Huntsville and I also took it to be trashing the SLC, but after taking time to put things in context I can see what he was saying and I dont think he was trashing anyone just keeping aspirations and expectations high for LU in the future...

One thing Lamar should always hve going for itself is that most Alums stay local when they graduate vs places like Huntsville and Nacadoches where there isnt much for an Alum to do job wise in town once they graduate so its a decent trek for most folks to make a game.  My wife and I have season Tix and we have to jump through hoops all the time just to find someone to keep our kids or get there before the game starts after two soccer games each week here in Orange and there arent that many people who ae committed to doing this more than once or twice a season.  Its a good thing LU has going and I hope you guys can keep i up cause once it dies off its hard to get it back...

Was he just not recruited by the major colleges? If you are talking about kids qualifing there are many to talk about. See all the junior college players across the country. [/quote] My youngest brother played football for Navy and his first year away from home he cried and was home sick bad and was going to transfer to SHSU with me and my other brother but my parents and the coaches worked with him and got him through and looking back on it he is so thankful that they didnt allow him to do what HE WANTED at the time.  Im not sure what JJ's situation is and it may be one where he needed to come home so I wont speak specifically to it, but across the country you see young players who were the big fish in a small pond in HS come home cause they arent used to being the small fish in the big ocean KOKO Smith(an SHSU recruit)  is a prime example of this...Sometimes some of these guys need to pop their Momma's titty outta there mouth suck it up and work for something...

[/quote] I'm not concerned with Lamar its just the only thing you guys talk about.  As for Sam I responded to the survey and I made it a point to do so in such a way that its clear I'm against it.  Now you are correct that no one has come out and stated "we are too good" but people have said SLC is a junk conference and Lamar should have never left the sunbelt and needs to get out asap.....maybe as a fan of a school in said junk conference I'm taking that the wrong way or it may be my reading comprehension...

As Fox news reports, that is fair and balanced.  ;D [/quote] FBS teams get paid more to go play someone else and they generally charge more for tickets to a stadium that more seating than the average FCS and their officially licensed merchandise is carried in more places school so it shouldnt surprise anyone that there are more of them turning a profit than FCS schools, but all that only occurs when everything goes right.  Western Kentucky was an FCS powerhouse won a championship in 2000 I believe and decided they wanted to be FCS and they cant win a game and actually had a season ticket sales to buy seats for $5 a piece per game just to try and get butts in the seats so its not all sunshine and lollypops and there is some level of risk when making the move, but there are folks who have done it and been really successful too.  Bottom line Lamar isnt too good for the SLC and at this point Lamar isnt too good to turn up their noses to the West TX A&M's, Delta State's, and A&M Kingsville's of the world if they were to enter the SLC, and until Lamar reaches a point that they are at least heading in the direction of being too good I would think you are better off where you are...

I know I'm a bearkat but I live here so I cruise the board and I have say you guys have run thus should we or shouldn't we argument into the ground its almost nauseating to the point of being semi comical....I bet a full day can't pass without anyone bringing it up..

There are a few football schools on this list that can and have beaten fcs schools on a regular basis and would be as competitive as northwestern or Nichols on any given Saturday...

I was out of town this weekend so I was unable to attend the game, but my Grandfather was on of the "Lamar Legends" and my parents went with them to a luncheon and a tour.  My younger brother and I both Graduated from Sam Houston and He played football for the Bearkats so my parents have been in and around football facilities and the fiirst thing they said when I got back was "WOW"...you guys have the best facilities around, the best gameday atmosphere and a team that at one time many people thought would have maybe one win coming into this past weekend but instead you had a team that scared Mcneese, beat SELA, and had every Bearkat fan I know wondering if we could beat you or not coming into this game.  Im a season ticket holder to Sam Houston football games and my Mom hasnt asked to come to a game in years and after this past weekend she wants to come.  Point being it took time to build the facilities, hype up the atmosphere and its gonna take time to bring the team around.  Im ecstatic at the outcome of the game last saturday, but I wish you guys the best of luck for success the rest of the way and I plan to be at a few mor LU games this season when my Kats are away.

Because our budget is already twice what theirs is - and it is still on the rise. We cannot sell out the stadium we have because of the competitors we face. It isn't your fault you are not well known in Texas, or that our apathetic fans don't care to see you. Keep in mind we are the 5th largest university in Texas and roughly twice the size of SELU. Dog on us all you want, but roughly 90% capacity for a DII team isn't bad. And to your point about the money being used towards something else, get a grip. Students are paying ridiculous fees to help fund this. We voted for it, we are paying for it. It is what we the students want. To the Sam, Lamar, SLC, whoever: if you believe this is such a stupid and idiotic move, then PLEASE don't follow us to FBS. [/quote] I was at the Sam TSU game in San Marcos last season and for a rainy day and UT having a home game there were plenty of people tailgating and the stadium was about 3/4 full so Im not buying the "no one knows who you are argument" could it possibly be product you guys currently have on the field as much as your opponents...and frankly REAL FBS schools and their fans dont get a hard on at the thought of LA Tech or New Mexico State coming to town, in fact most REAL FBS schools and their fans think most of the schools you will face in the WAC(if thats where you end up) should be FCS anyway...so I doubt you'll see an uptick in your attendance, unless you can get some of those REAL FBS schools to come to town and play but dont hold your breath if you think thats gonna happen every season...

I work at Christus St. Elizabeth so I guess being in that part of town I see the nicer homes and around Parkdale Mall that area is really nice now.
