I have already stated my opinion of what Lamar should do if they take in DII schools to replace schools that leave the conference. Delta State, Tarleton St., North Alabama, Abilene Christian University, West Texas A&M, Texas A&M - Kingsville, Midwestern St. and Jacksonville St. This schools just don't get me excited to watch them play at Provost Umphrey. I have no interest in traveling to watch the Cardinals play any of these teams either. This goes for not only football but all the sports in which Lamar participates.
delta st... more interesting than an idaho game.........

I'm not opposed to it, but having non-revenue generating sports that offer scholarships to support TIX cause a major financial strain on athletic budgets.
I agree but apparently you ignored this sentence: "Sixty-eight FBS schools reported turning a profit on football, with a median value of $8.8 million. The 52 FBS schools that lost money on football reported median losses of $2.7 million. " Almost 1/2 the football programs in FBS are losing money.
I imagine its the same or worse for all divisions, but it helps with students, school identity etc... Some of these "big time" schools also lose money in the big bowl games :o by the time they make up for poor fan ticket sales, bringing everybody(team, band, coaches/wives, boosters) for a week at the host city, etc..cant remember for sure, ore or ore st. took a beating by attending the rose bowl -

We just may need to change some of our philosphies as coaches, players, and fans...The staff needs to figure out a way to put these guys in position to win, players need to perform on each and every play, and the fans need to support the program.... Go Cards..
that is a pointless article..dabe get paid or is he in a high school journalism class?
Well, I certainly hope the coach expects to win. Hopefully he will start coaching better. I have some suggestions: 1) blitz if the front 4 can't get pressure, move 2) 33 and 55 to linebacker and find some bigger defensive ends to replace them; 3) learn a play other than a bomb 4)find a punter that can punt further than 20 yards 5)find a new special teams coach that knows how to make adjustments 6) Learn to run the ball a little, or throw screen passes, or slants 7) If you aren't going to use Chavis on offense, move him to defensive end in place of that 215 pounder 8) put 23 on offense 9) find some secondary folks that can cover 10)get more players that will hit like Coleman and Garrett 11) If you aren't going to blitz, teach the linebackers how to drop back and cover the middle of the field better 12) I'll think of some more later....
I think Ray is pleased with his special teams...in that interview -

Season ticket sales are important because on bad weather days when there's a sparse crowd at least those seats have been paid for. I'm sure televising the games locally is very much about promoting football and Lamar doesn't make much from Fox 4, and any short term loss of ticket sales will be made up by getting people out to see future games.
Thats the thinking but I don't think it ever worked for the Basketball team. We all no that nothing works very well, except winning. That is the sure fire ticket sale promotion that always works (and the better the competition you can beat, the better the crowds). I'm sure Puddin would disagree with me though.
i agree with ya alot on the stuff that doesnt have WAC in the post...

Could Lamar leave the Southland Conference?

UTSA and Texas State are gone. Nicholls, Northwestern State, Southeast Louisiana and McNeese are facing huge budget cuts. Sam Houston is looking for a way out. SFA won't be far behind Sam. The powers that be at the University have to be looking several years ahead - and that has to include conference realignment. I would love for them to move to FBS. and it may have to come sooner than later if things in the southland shake out badly.
The SLC is not dying. The SLC is facing dropping football or bringing in 4-6 DII football. So it is not dying as a conference, but will take a huge hit in football if not dropping football. Yet many here thinks LU will be perfectly fine playing FCS Independent or playing DII upgrades. Our offense is terrible, too many TO's, the O-line can't create a lane for the RB's to gain some yardage on the ground and they aren't protecting our QB in the passing game. SHSU had pressure on Bevil all night. Yes, he makes some very questionable throws into coverages. I hope Coach Woodard recuits a QB, RB and a couple of O-linemen. Defense, they can't stop the run. 3 of the 4 teams we have played had a RB go well over 100 yards rushing for the game. I don't know if it is coaching or the guys just can't tackle. They seem to hit the runner and just bounce off. Our defense doesn't produce any TO's and SHSU had the ball over 40 minutes of the game to LU's 20 minutes. There is so much more to say but I'm at work now so have to cut it short. Still bleed red and white but hate losing. I'll be there for HC at Provost Umphrey with a few family members.
I hope Coach Woodard recuits a QB, RB and a couple of O-linemen. unless they quit, i think we have 6 qbs.
Yes, we recruited 6 guys who played QB in HS but they aren't all playing QB at Lamar. For example, Christian Louis played QB at WB and is now a DB. At the HS level a lot of times your best athlete plays QB and then when they go to college the coaching staff changes their position to best utilize their potential. Another example is Marcus Jackson the WR who scored our only TD last week. He is the fastest player on the team and guess what position he played in HS? That is right, QB at Tyler Lee High School.
know about both those kids, wasnt counting them was counting Bevil, Prewitt, Tatum, Smith, Berry,Koi, Kai?kid from navasota, (cept i think he's been moved) -
The Kelly Bulldogs are coming off a disappointing loss in their district opener against Houston Christian. However, there is no time to sit and sulk for the Bulldogs as defending District 3 champs Houston St. Pius comes to town. The Bulldogs will host the panthers this Friday at Bulldog Stadium (7:30). To all Bulldogs fans: After a disappointing crowd last week, mainly from the Kelly Student Section, the call is going out to come and support your Bulldogs. Please fill the stands and line the fences as Kelly goes for the upset. The game will be a Blue-Out so come dressed in blue and be rowdy. The Kelly football team needs your support.
