Well if we you use the drive times youve posted on here stating that Beaumont is only an hour from Houston that would make Huntsville like 30-45 minutes tops and Huntsville is apart of the Houston media market along with the Sports Director and his side kick from at least one major TV station in Houston are SH alumni and follow the team closely already they very well could feasibly send a crew each week. Also the Bryan College Station channel is at every home game so they could easily do what the Beaumont stations do. As for the other reasons our Alumni base in the Houston area is bigger than Lamar's, We are closer in proximity and we have a satelite campus in The Woodlands, the houston media is saturated with Sam grads who are more than willing to cover things going on with the school. Those are just a few simple reasons without much thought as to why it would be easier not neccessarily reasons why it would happen as I agree neither school will ever "Carry" the market unless UT and the Aggys fall off the planet.
y'all crack me up...Houston coulg give a rats arse about Lamar or Sam... -
Lamar in this conference re-alignment issue is acting like the person that lives on the beach and knows a hurricane is coming and watches the news trying to make a decision on when and if they should evacuate. They procastinate on making a decision and then all of sudden the water has risen and they are trapped and can't get out and just have to ride out the storm and see where the surge takes them. They have no control over where they will land on high ground. They are at the mercy of the storm. If LU really does want to move up, they need to be proactive. I don't see that happening. I think at this point football will always be FCS/3rd tier. What scares me is that the big schools at some point will try to shrink the pool of teams who can play in the NCAA basketball and baseball tournaments, and that could be whittled down to the top 2 conference tiers (the current FBS schools) and LU could find the basketball/baseball teams playing in a FCS type tournament which will further shrink revenues and fan support. This would be for all sports by the way. JMHO!!
its a disaster! lets just drop football!!! ::)

[Hidden Content] Some rumors has ND joining too. BTW, Lamar is bigger than Clemson.
Is that for real? Do you mean just the Beaumont campus or all of the locations that have Lamar in their name?
Clemson has a total student population of about 19,500 and sits in a town of about 14,000. However they are about 30 minutes from Greenville which has a population of about 650,000 and the metro area for Greenville is about 1,200,000. LU is 90 miles from a 6.3mil metro area. That 60 miles may make a big difference.
problem with all this about Houston and tv.....Houston is one sorry college town...they dont support rice, cougar high...its a pro town

What is so exciting about Lamar since leaving the Sunbelt? yet you guys want more of this small time.
At the outset, I will say that I am probably in severe minority...perhaps one of the only ones. But here goes I could give a rats rear end on whether Lamar ever achieves FBS status and I certainly don't want them in it anytime soon. What I want out of my college alma mater is a winning program. I don't care if it is in FCS. Heck, I don't care if it is Division III. What I want out of the Lamar University football program is that when I attend a home game that the team I am rooting for has, at least, an even money shot of winning the game. And after the 1st year of conference play, I don't see Lamar at that point even in the small time Southland Conference. I see it as being of NO USE to Lamar University to jump into an FBS conference just for the freaking sake of saying it is in an FBS conference. I can see it now, "Yeah, we got the crap kicked out of us. But hey because we are in the FBS, our tailkicking will make it on the crawl on Sportscenter!!!" Advocating a push into FBS when Lamar has not yet shown it can even be competitive in FCS to me is just plain flat out stupid.
a voice of reason in a sea of insanity....
That's where it's at. You gotta win. This may get me banned from the board, but I'm not convinced Lamar's Woodard is that good. Too bad LU didn't put some real money into the HC position and hire someone with FCS or FBS head coaching experience instead of a JC coach. A person with a name and some shingles on the wall. Look at what UTSA has done with Coker in year one. Not many wins and probably won't be many this season, but Coker has the experience to move that program up. And I'll tell you another thing, Lamar has to learn to spend money on good assistant coaches. $50,000 for a position coach won't get you many good takers. Only the retreads. And if you happen to get a really good position coach, you have to pay them well to keep them.
you are not alone there, Green...i think ray ray is in way over his head

ECU should go to the Big East. Marshall should go back to the MAC. Lamar should go back to the Sun Belt. Simple as that!
I like it Coach but I don't think they want us and I am afraid it is as simple as that. By the way the BRI board must be down I can't get on there. It's being reported the SJSU and Utah State will be joining soon. And I agree with NorthoftheBorder, it's more an issue of markets than anything else. Why else would UTSA be going to the CUSA? But I hope Dr. Simmons is working behind the scenes right now talking to the Sun Belt and some big donors so Lamar can get an invite. It doesn't have to be an immediate invite, but one for a year or two from now when Lamar is in a better position to join.
dead is dead coach..no matter how you wanna spin it UTSA is gonna be good for any conference..its THE game in town TX st is and always will be a 'who cares'...same for UTA--neither one brings much to the table
