UNLV, do you have any proof that Lamar passed up a FBS invite? Who in the LU administration told you this? I think the reality is that Lamar was not invited to the Sun Belt, just like they were not invited to the WAC a few years ago.
Insane to think SBC wanted Idaho over Lamar. Insane to think SBC wants to lose a boat load of money by not going 12/CCG. Again, this was a golden opportunity for Lamar. I suppose play Bacone, Mcmury, and Langston home games beats playing Oklahoma st, Baylor, and Texas Tech at home.
The SBC took Idaho and NMSU because they are already FBS so it keeps the conference from having too many transition teams. Having a championship game will not bring in a boatload of money for the SBC. I read they renewed their TV contract which only brings in $40K per school. A championship game would hardly change that amount. Getting teams like Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, etc. in Beaumont wouldn't happen until the stadium was expanded to at least 30K, and that would require tens of millions from private donors...not happening anytime soon. Lamar is still trying to find money for a new video board for the Montagne Center, baseball stadium upgrades, and the softball field. Lamar blew it big time by dropping football then leaving the Sun Belt. They may never recover from those two mistakes.

You are enjoying every minute as Lamar once again makes a national moron of itself and at stupid fans like me who defended Lamar..... never again.
Why do you say Lamar made a national moron of itself? They were not publicly trying to get into the Sun Belt. You, on the other hand, should be embarrassed for the stuff you've said about Lamar on the different forums you comment on these past few years.
You guys are truly die-hard LU fans with short (selective?) memories when LU was in Sun Belt? (1) LU got their butts kicked (2) Read #1 ,plus the expense factor (3) LU can't win in the Lone Star Conference :-\ Southland :-\ ;D
Baylor was inept in the Big 12 for over a decade and now they are doing well. Things do change. When Lamar was in the Sun Belt they were dealing with money problems and a declining enrollment, all of that is behind them now. But I haven't seen any signs that Lamar is trying to move to the Sun Belt at this time.

Newton County was just added to the Beaumont-Port Arthur MSA so that pushes the population over 400K. Maybe that's the last piece to the puzzle that gets Lamar into the Sun Belt. ;D I just don't think anyone at Lamar is pushing this issue unless Jason Henderson is really good at secretly lining up the big donors so Lamar can make the jump. I've been checking the TSUS for any upcoming board of regent meetings and the subject of Lamar changing conferences has not been brought up yet.
I understand. Too much DIESEL for ya. There are people who can, and those who can not. Lamar has a long history of leaders who can not. And lets not forget the public that blindly supports the can not leadership. Hand shakes and pats on the back for just getting through the day or week or year or career.
What the hell have you done for LAMAR except talk about it on message boards? Have you given millions of dollars to the school because that's what it takes to succeed at the FBS level. You run your mouth on all these message boards but every time someone asks you about how much money you have given to LAMAR you just dodge the question. So I'm asking you, how much have you donated to LAMAR over the years? A rough estimate is all you need to tell us.

I say 30K would show up if both LU and Texas State were undefeated and less than 15K if one or both were having bad seasons (given their histories that's a BIG possibility!)

The MWC has a ton of WAC schools. The Big East has a ton of CUSA schools. CUSA has a ton Sun Belt schools. The Sun Belt has a ton of SLC schools. Give it time, I bet we'll see both LU and SHSU in the Sun Belt in a few years. But the more conferences change, the more they stay the same.

Lamar left the Sun Belt 15 years ago, that's not a "few years" ago, that's a long time ago. Since when does being competitive matter? That didn't stop Texas State or Georgia State from joining the Sun Belt. I don't remember UTSA having a competitive football team in the SLC and now they are in the CUSA. I'm with UNLV on this one. I watched the video, really nothing new. No one from Lamar said they turned down an invite to the Sun Belt. The guy from the SLC just talked about the new editions to the conference, he didn't say Lamar turned down an invite.

Grambling is coached by Joseph Price who was Pat Knight's assistant last year at Lamar. I wonder if they have some kind of bet for the worst team in D1? :o

Did you guys even bother to read the articles about it?
[Hidden Content] Yep. ;)
Like I said earlier, that wasn't a vote, but a rating generated by a computer. The researchers even admitted that the words they used for the ratings were void of context. If you look at the top cities and bottom cities you'll see that demographics were a big factor. -

At least the women won. Who would have thought the football team would have more wins than the basketball team at this point of the season? :o -
article mentions Lamar as 1 of 4 invites to SBC

I read on the Sun Belt forum that the new BCS deal with all the FBS conferences means about $1.3+ million yearly to each football school in the Sun Belt (if they expand to 12 football schools). Lamar would also double the money it would get from guarantee games like the OK State and Baylor games coming up. Because of that, joining the Sun Belt would bring in a minimum of $2 million more to the athletic department each year. That money could pay for the extra scholarships and coaching salaries at the FBS level. This year's athletic budget will be close to $15 million, being in the Sun Belt would put them over $17 million at a minimum, on par with ULL and Troy, and a lot more than ULM.
