1. Tulane shoots less than 40% in the 1st half and over 50% in the 2nd half...who would have thought?  ::) 80-70 Tulane with about 3 minutes left.
 2. 68-61 Tulane pulling ahead.
 3. La Tech hosted Ole Miss a few years ago and I saw Okie State play at Troy a few years ago on ESPN.  With a 30K stadium Lamar could get those types of teams.  But even a lower level FBS team should generate more interest than most FCS schools.
 4. 18-13 LU with the early lead.
 5.

I agree with the concept of 2nd tier schools coming to LU but the question for those who really want to move to BCS is who do you want to see coming to BMT and why?  Outside of the Southland Conference there are some very good FCS schools that might be an equal draw.
I assume you mean FBS and not BCS because I doubt Lamar will be invited to that club anytime soon.  But according to the big article in the Beaumont Enterprise last month Lamar wants to be bowling by 2015.  That fits perfectly with what Karl Benson's 3 to 5 year plan.  The WAC may not be around or Lamar may have other options by then, who knows.  But outside of McNeese, SFA, and SHSU, what other FCS schools would draw well?  Most are either on the east coast or out west.  Does anyone even know who's playing the FCS championship that's coming up?
Technically, all FBS schools are BCS schools. The media mixes up the terms to mean that BCS schools are the AQ conference schools, when in fact, ALL FBS schools are BCS schools.
I was thinking of the BCS conferences and how they get the majority of the BCS money.  The WAC gets a few million a year of that money now, but that could all change when the contract expires in a few years.

 7. The guy who did this interview posted some more info in a Texas State forum where he says this:
I've sat in on conference calls and read most of his interviews, but I haven't heard him specify certain targets with a plan and a time frame attached. "Whenever they are ready" = Lamar? I don't know but I heard that they made an informal appearance in DFW at the WAC presentation in October, which is more than I know about SFA or SHSU.
Take this all with a grain of salt but it's fun to talk about. 8. I found this recent interview with Karl Benson, the commissioner of the WAC and here's what the last paragraph says:
Finally, what I considered to be the best part of our talk.  Benson acknowledged a 3 to 5 year plan to extend membership to some combination of Cal Poly, Sacramento State, UC-Davis, Montana, Montana State – plus “some Texas schools to join us whenever they are ready”.
I'm assuming he's probably referring to some combination of Lamar, SHSU, and/or SFA, whoever wants to go FBS. 9.
Don Skelton! Since he left town the offense has been non-exisitent. He left because he couldn't deal with Roc. The guy has been a very successful HC in the JC ranks turning the NW Miss Program into a regular title contender, then when he left NWM they dropped. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Last night Brazier scored everytime they got him the ball down low. He was way to quick for there inside game and Minor was shooting bullets from outside, yet with 3 minutes left in the game they were both sitting on the bench. Brazier finally comes in at about the 2 minute mark and Minor never saw the floor again? Go figure. Start the game and the 5 guys on the floor don't produce we get in a early 8 point hole, but we finish the half hot with Brazier and Minor on the floor. so he starts the second half with the same 5 that started the game and bam back in the hole again!!!
Latest bio on Don Skelton:
Junior college coaching veteran Don "Bubba" Skelton returns for his third season as head men's basketball coach at Jones County Junior College. In his first season in 2008-09, Skelton piloted the Bobcats to a 24-5 record and their first MACJC state championship since the 1945-46 season. It was the fifth overall state championship for the Bobcats. The Bobcats, who also won the MACJC South Division crown, advanced to the Region 23 Tournament and were ranked as high as No. 19 in the nation at one point. Skelton was named the MACJC Co-Coach of the Year for his success that season. Last year, the Bobcats compiled a 17-10 record and advanced to the semifinals of the Region 23 Tournament. Skelton came to Jones after two years as an assistant coach at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. The Cardinals went 19-11 and tied for the Southland Conference crown in his final season at Lamar.
[Hidden Content] Is it any coincidence that after he left Lamar the team hasn't made it to the SLC tourney? Ronnie Arrow at South Alabama (and previously A&M CC) was a successful JUCO coach that's had good success at the D1 level.
 10.
West Texas native Will Wagner, the assistant head coach at perennial NCAA Division II powerhouse Northwest Missouri State University, has been named head football coach at Angelo State University, effective immediately.
[Hidden Content]
 11.
I would be willing to give Abetemarco a second chance, but I think Lamar needs to look to lower division coaches that have proved to be succesful.  If you look at D-1 coaches what does Lamar have to offer, a one and done conference and probably no better salary.  Want to say I heard during the ULL half time that they are paying Marlin significantly more than we are paying any of our coaches in any sport.
Here's what UL-L is reportedly paying Marlin:
UL, a program rich in tradition but one that has been mostly lifeless over the past decade, gave him 300,000 reasons to make the move. UL officials wouldn’t divulge exact terms of Marlin’s five-year contract as basketball coach, but it has been reported to include almost $200,000 in university salary and a $100,000 supplement from the Ragin’ Cajun Athletic Foundation.
I doubt Lamar can afford that.  Woodard makes less than that.  I have no confidence that Lamar will find a coach that can win.
 12.
Finally! It took you guys five years to wake up from your dream. At the end of the season you'll once again hear about the team graduation rate.
It's been 20+ years of bad dreams, do they ever stop?  :-\
 13.
Actually Abatemarco was and is a very good coach. His ignorant big mouth got him fired. He could turn LU mens team around fast.
Abatemarco was interested in the job 5 years ago when Roc was hired instead.  Maybe he's still interested.
 14. If Roc is back next year then it'll mean that Lamar doesn't care about basketball anymore and will be concentrating on football.  How many decades does it take before Lamar figures out how to hire another good basketball coach?
 15. Lamar will lose again, and the sad part is nobody cares.  Thanks Roc!
 16.
Dodge MADE (past tense) that much at UNT.  However, he is currently unemployed and those unemployment benefits only go so far.  He'll probably get some better offers but you don't know unless you ask.  And the worst he can tell you is no.
A Bob West article last month said the Dodge wants to be a quarterbacks coach.  Now that Jeremy Johnson is at Lamar, I wonder how interested Dodge would be in coaching him as the OC.  Lamar could probably offer him a competitive salary as OC compared to a QB coach at a big school, unless it's a BCS school like UT or OU.

The ones that mess up.............say see ya to em.  The ones that don't make you look like a genius.  You cannot and I repeat cannot win in FCS football without taking chances like this!
False, Sczur up at Villanova almost lead that team to a second national championship and he is a model citizen. You don't have to be a program that shops at Thugs-R-Us for quality football players
No you don't but when you are starting a new program and you want to win now these are the things you have to do.  You guys act like these kids committed murder.  They had some discipline problems and if the screw around here they will be gone.  The risk will in the long term will be worth the reward.  Some will workout........some won't.  The ones that do will be special. I don't get some of you guys.  You come on here moaning about how bad we are at certain positions and how if we don't improve the coaches will be gone.  We go get a big 12 offensive lineman and people find a negative.  Simply amazing!!! If this were the basketball team getting a Big 12 transfer we would be crowing the cards the next Southland Champions.  Not in football though.  Mysterious to me.
I agree!
 18.
you can't have both?
I don't think Lamar has that luxury.
 19.
Lu starts a qb with dreadlocks, they can have my tickets.
Oh the horror!!  ::)
 20.

Lamar didn't have a 12 point lead. ULL is the team that had the 12 point lead and Lamar got within 3. But I still believe that they should have won this game if they plan to compete in their conference this year.
Sorry, you are wrong as Lamar had a 12 point lead during the first half. You can read all the info in this link it you would like. To be exact it was an 11 point lead 19-30, Lamar with 4:49 left in the first half. [Hidden Content]
You are both right.  Lamar had a 11 point lead in the first half and ULL had a 12 point lead in the second half.  Don't good coaches make adjustments at half time?  Roc doesn't know how to teach defense so his teams will always be average at best.
 21. From the In The Cards blog:
Hall has more academic issues to straighten out before joining the Lamar football team. He left his last school  – Tulsa – in mid-semester and did not complete his courses. Jeremy Johnson, another transfer, smartly stayed in school and completed courses at West Virginia even after leaving the school’s football team in midseason. Doing so allowed him to keep his eligibility. Hall did not. Because of that, Hall just might have let this chance at playing college football slip through his fingers. And if he does eventually play at Lamar, it will be later rather than sooner. If ever.
[Hidden Content]
 22. Lamar also lost to Rice after blowing a double-digit lead.  How can you not blame this on coaching?  From day one Roc's coaching abilities have been questioned, and since the talent he recruits can't overcome his bad coaching, isn't it time for a new coach?
 23. LU loses 68-65 to a 1-8 team that lost to a NAIA last week.  Isn't Roc's contract up after this year?  The basketball program has made ZERO progress in 5 years.
 24.

Quote from the article Johnson will compete with returning quarterbacks Doug Prewitt and Andre Bevil for the starting position. A primary focus for coaches will be to determine the best way for Johnson to impact the offense. Whether that means putting him at quarterback, running back or receiver remains to be seen. Jeremy Johnson isn't being given anything but a shot to start at QB for Lamar.
ok........sure....... ;) :D
They have to say that publicly.  Privately they are probably already drawing up plays for JJ.
 25. This guy was a rivals 3 star recruit out of high school so he must have some talent.  If nothing else he adds a lot of depth to the OL. I did find this bit of info on Davis:
Mid-August:  Offensive linemen Taylor Davis and Daniel Jenkins are dismissed from team for disciplinary issues.
[Hidden Content] And here:
To clarify, the two linemen were repeat offenders of team violations, as I understand it. Davis had been suspended for most of preseason camp.
[Hidden Content]
