1.
Great post LumberCard as I heard Coach Woodard address a person asking about recruiting. He said, Lineman, lineman and more lineman; then the best athletes available. We are small for a FCS level school on the OL and DL. I heard one of the DL for Lamar was outweighed by over 100 lbs by a SD O-Lineman.
Lamar was after Trey Cassidy, an offensive guard from Angleton, but he gave a verbal to Colorado State. 2. Hall was a ESPNU 150 recruit, and even though that was 3 years ago, he must still have some serious talent left in him.  The O-line can only be better next year so the running game should be much improved if nothing else.

4. And don't forget about Kevin Smith, wasn't he fighting Bevil for the #1 spot before he got injured?  But I'm with bigred360, I want to see Johnson in a Lamar uniform.
5. Whitten was a last minute choice after the original OC left for Texas Tech.  Whitten's been a HC so he might be looking to be the HC at the D2 level or something.
6. Should be an easy win giving Lamar a 5-6 season record.  Not bad if you ask me.
7. And the streak is still intact...no rushing TDs for Lamar!
8. Lamar finished in 3rd place, behind Arkansas and Texas and ahead of Baylor and Texas A&M.  McNeese had a good showing finishing in 6th.  Freshman Matt Johnsen of Lamar finished in 9th and will run in the NCAA Championships. [Hidden Content]
9. Pomeroy has UC Riverside only winning 4 games the whole year so Lamar should beat them.  Portland State and SMU are your more average teams so we'll see how well Lamar stacks up against them.  I'd like to see Lamar 5-1 heading into the Texas game Dec. 1st.
10.
Heard last night that LU signed a 6'9 kid from Humble Christian Life!!!!  That is Houston area last time I checked!!!!!
Isn't that Michale Kyser?
11. Missouri State is favored to win the MVC so Lamar didn't lose to a pushover, but it's still disappointing they lost by such a large margin after leading big to start the game.
12. And from the PA News:
Lamar, as Roccaforte promised, pressed from start to finish, with all 14 players in uniform getting playing time. Thirteen of the 14 broke into the scoring column.     What really jumped out was the Cardinals overall speed, quickness and athleticism.     “I thought we did a good job of sticking with what we were trying to do,” Roccaforte said. “We’re going to full court press, trap the ball and push the ball. I was really pleased with the 31 assists and the fact we only turned the  ball over 13 times.”
[Hidden Content]
13. I think this game and the others against non-D1 competition only shows us what the talent level is for Lamar compared to previous years.  Last year Lamar only beat Lyon 75-46, and that was in mid-season.  This year Lamar beat Lyon easily in their first game and Lyon had already played 4 games.  In 2008 Lamar when Lamar won 19 games they beat Lyon 104-52 and averaged 104 points against the 4 non-D1 opponents. This type of game doesn't tell us squat how well Roc will coach but does show that the talent is there for a good season, especially with a relatively weak schedule.  I looks like the SLC may be a little weaker this year than in the past few years so they need to capitalize on that. Nicholls is favored to win the east but almost beating Houston on the road is surprising.  I'm glad Lamb is playing for us and not Houston.
14. 107-51 with about 5 minutes left in game.  Roc has emptied the bench.  Announced crowd of about 2500 but it looked at lot smaller watching the feed.
15. From the Beaumont Enterprise:
Both wore green practice jerseys given to quarterbacks during the week, but Doug Prewitt logged most playing time with the No. 1 unit. He threw all but one pass during Friday's walkthrough in preparation for tonight's game against the University of South Dakota at Provost Umphrey Stadium. "It gives us a lot of options," coach Ray Woodard said about having two healthy quarterbacks. Among those options is for both players to be on the field simultaneously, one as a quarterback and the other as a receiver.
[Hidden Content]
16. 66-35 halftime.  It's a blowout as expected.  Lamb had 18 points followed by Harper with 11.
17. 51-20 with about 7 minutes left in the 1st half.  Tons of dunks for Lamar.
18. I'll be disappointed if Lamar doesn't win by 40+ and score around 100.
19. I think it's telling that after all the praise that Roc gave Custer, saying he's really improved and he's the team captain, that Brown is starting instead of him.  For those who attended the scrimmages did Brown play better than Custer?
20. Here's why Roc is starting a lot of the returning players:
Steve Roccaforte will let his newcomers grow wings before they fly. For that reason, don't expect the newest Lamar University men's basketball players to steal the show tonight. Roccaforte said he plans to limit the number of newcomers on the floor to three during Friday's season-opening game against Lyon College at the Montagne Center. "I don't think it's fair to take five new guys and throw them out there with a crowd in the first real game and say, 'OK, boys, go to work,'" Roccaforte said. "I don't think that would benefit them and I don't think it would benefit us." The Cardinals open the season with a 15-player roster that includes eight newcomers and one player who redshirted last season. That leaves six players who played any minutes last season.
[Hidden Content]
21. Conference shuffling is far from over.
22.
All home Lamar University men's and women's basketball games will be streamed live for free this season on Lamar's athletic Web site, www.LamarCardinals.com. "This will give people everywhere the opportunity to watch the Cardinals," said Clint Burges, Lamar's video coordinator. This is a huge step for the university."
Now I'll have a chance to see them play a lot more since I live out of town. [Hidden Content]
23. The box score from the scrimmage showed Nelson taking 7 3-pointers, and at 6'5" I would guess he's more of a small forward than a power forward.  I think offensively this team will be fine as long as they are not overly reliant on 3-pointers.  With bigger and more athletic guards I'm hoping they can drive the lane and make some layups and use their quickness to grab rebounds. I'm also hoping they'll be a lot better defensively than in past years.  Even if they are great shooters they can't outscore their opponents every night.

25. From the In The Cards blog: Early look at the 2011 football schedule: Sept. 3: Langston Sept. 10: at South Alabama Sept. 17: at South Dakota Sept. 24: Open Oct. 1: at Southeastern Louisiana* Oct. 8: Northwestern State* Oct. 15: at Texas State* Oct. 22: Central Arkansas* Oct. 29: at Sam Houston State* Nov. 4: Stephen F. Austin* Nov. 12: at Nicholls* Nov. 19: McNeese State* They should probably try to add more seats for the SFA and McNeese games.  I don't think 17k SRO will be enough to hold everybody.
