1. Here's a few stats from the game: JJ was 3 of 6 for 57 yards, 1 sack.  He also rushed 6 times for 29 yards. Bevil was 3 of 9 for 50 yards, 0 sacks.  He ran for 2 yards. Pruitt was 1 of 2 for 4 yards, 1 sack.  He ran for -17 yards. JJ has the better stats, but Pruitt played mainly with the 2nd and 3rd stringers in the second half.  I'm surprised he didn't play more in the first half.  I think Bevil is holding the starting spot until JJ is ready to play full time.  My guess is Pruitt is destined to be JJ's backup, which isn't surprising since JJ is the 3-star dual-threat QB and Pruitt is a walk-on.
 2. I understand where you're coming from and Lamar can't just accept anyone, no matter their past.  I draw the line at rape, armed robbery, carjacking, those kinds of things, especially when guns are involved.  And if Oden had actually hurt someone while driving drunk then I would hope Lamar wouldn't sign him. But Tidwell gave Jenna Plumley a second chance after getting caught shoplifting and she did a lot of good here.  That's partly why I'm for guys like Oden getting a second chance.  I'm not excusing their actions and they do have to face the consequences from the legal system, and I'm guessing these types of players are on a very short lease at Lamar.
 3. Oden is not a high school kid, he's 21 years old so comparing him to pregnant teenage girls is silly.  Does anyone really think he's going to move back in with his parents and get his life together that way?  More likely he'll hang out with his millionaire brother who'll give him money and let him do whatever.  He's at Lamar now where he'll have to work hard to get noticed by the NFL.  This is no big time program where they let these things slide.  It's the big time programs that allows them to get away with these things multiple times. It's schools like Lamar where they go after the make their mistakes to get back on the right track. And don't forget, Oden hasn't been excused from the charges against him.  He'll still have his day in court so he still has to deal with that.
You get off your high horse.  So I assume any that's accused of breaking the law shouldn't be given anymore chances at anything?  Has Oden been convicted yet?  No, but you believe Lamar and all other colleges should ban him from playing football.  Do you also believe anyone that has a DUI be banned from having a job too? And so are only you and puddin tane have been calling this guy a thug.  He hasn't robbed and beaten anyone.  Who exactly has he hurt?  I've yet to hear an answer to that question.  Dr. Simmons has done wonders for Lamar so I'll trust him and his judgement on this.  If he feels that the coaching staff shouldn't sign these guys then he'll let the Woodard know, but until that happens I'll support Lamar, Woodard, and the way they are running the program.
You get off your high horse.  Ah, you mean, lower my standards, nah, I think I'll stick with holding people accountable, and lean more toward giving kids a chance who haven't made CHOICES (it wasn't a mistake, he knowingly CHOSE to get drunk and drive...TWICE) So I assume any that's accused of breaking the law shouldn't be given anymore chances at anything?  Has Oden been convicted yet?  No, but you believe Lamar and all other colleges should ban him from playing football.Until he proves he didn't do it, yes. If he did (especially TWICE)...it should be over, no doubt.  Do you also believe anyone that has a DUI be banned from having a job too?A job is not an AMATURE sport, you are not entitled to a job either, but playing sports in HS, and college is definately a privaledge, if you make CHOICES (cause a mistake is in good faith, when a choice goes badly) And so are only you and puddin tane have been calling this guy a thug.  He hasn't robbed and beaten anyone.  Who exactly has he hurt?  I've yet to hear an answer to that question. So, it takes for him to ACTUALLY hurt or kill someone, ah, so as long as he gets drunck and drives, does drugs, or anyother law breaking event he chooses, but doesn't hurt anyone, its ok Dr. Simmons has done wonders for Lamar so I'll trust him and his judgement on this.  If he feels that the coaching staff shouldn't sign these guys then he'll let the Woodard know, but until that happens I'll support Lamar, Woodard, and the way they are running the program. People, Lots and lots and lots of people trusted in "Change we can believe in" also, look where THAT has taken us. For that matter Hitler had lots of believers in what he was doing was the RIGHT thing. Let's just say, I believe in ME, my morals, my judgement, my opinion as to what is right....I don't need you, or Dr. Simmons or Coach Woodard to tell or show me, whats right or wrong So now that I've answered your question (perhaps not how you wanted it answered) answer mine...If he gets drunk and drives, and kills one of your family members, will you still defend HIM, LU, DR. SIMMONS, COACH WOODARD?
If he drives drunk and kills someone I won't defend him and would hope he gets put away, but I won't blame Lamar, Dr. Simmons or Coach Woodard if he does.  They are giving him another chance to get an education and possibly a career in the NFL, I don't see how that is contributing to him driving drunk, which is what you are implying.  He hasn't killed or hurt anyone yet, but for you that's a forgone conclusion, and probably why you keep calling him a thug. He's going to get his day in court, and he'll be punished by the legal system.  You obviously don't think that's enough and believe that no school should give him he chance to play football.  I'm not sure how that will improve his life and make him a better person but you do have "higher standards" than the rest of us. Playing college football is a privilege, and Lamar gave that privilege to Oden.  I understand you not agreeing with it, but that's their call, and I support them on this.  My support would end if they were taking robbers, muggers, etc., otherwise I have nothing against guys like Oden on the team.

 6. McNeese State is adding Janzen Jackson, who was dismissed from Tennessee due to substance-abuse issues and failed multiple drug tests.  Does this mean that McNeese State likes losers too? These guys are young and unless they are felons that have harmed other people then there's nothing wrong with giving them a second or third chance.  Why deny these guys a chance to succeed at what they do best?  Without football they probably wouldn't attend college with a good chance of them digging themselves a deeper hole with no escape.
 7. As long as Lamar ends up in a FBS conference I don't really care where the Aggies end up.
 8.
All I'm saying is why do ya'll support "another chance"? Their victims sure don't...but I guess they don't matter as long as "the system" has run its course and they (the criminals) say they will not do that again, right!
Concerning Oden, who is the victim you're talking about?  Do you even know what he did?
 9.
I was actually excited about LU football. After getting the kid last year from A&M and now these 2, I'm not sure I'll ever support this staff, maybe not even LU for not setting a higher standard. And, I don't really care "if everybody else is doing it" LU should set a higher standard. As far as "getting a second chance", ask about the second chances that were given to the children of parents killed by drunk drivers, or the women (girlfriends) they beat on. Where is there second chance to live or live a life without being beat on.
So I'm guessing by this post you don't support any company that hires anyone that has been charged with a DUI or any other type of offense.  Do you also believe that not only should they be punished by the legal system, they should be backlisted as well from what they do best?  ::)
 10. Holly Bruder of Moorehead State will be hired as head coach.
I can't believe you still want Lamar in the WAC. YUCK. The Sunbelt does not want to give up Texas to the WAC. The Sunbelt could grab Lamar to get the Houston area recruits. It would be nutts for the SBC to sit back and let the WAC take Houston along with Austin, San Antonio, and DFW. There might already be a tug-a-war between the SBC and WAC for a Houston school. Lamar and Sam. I say let the WAC take Sam, Lamar goes SBC.
I prefer the SBC and Dr. Simmons prefers the SBC but I haven't seen one indication that the SBC wants Lamar.  It's easy to name the reasons why the SBC should invite Lamar but until I see one shred of evidence (or even a rumor) that the SBC is looking at Lamar then for now it's either the WAC or the SLC.
Have you seen the indication of the WAC wanting Lamar. hint hint the WAC added 3 non-football schools. Coach, think about it. The WAC could use it's Texas presence to crush the SBC in football in time. The SBC needs to counter by adding another Texas school in or near Houston. Who would that be?    Or do you really think the SBC will allow the WAC to take those Houston recruits along with San Antonio, Austin, and DFW. Think about it coach, I can't believe its not so obvious to you. Texas is the gold mine, the WAC has 3 and the SBC has 1. And that 1 wants out.
I'm not disagreeing with you about Lamar joining the SBC.  I agree with all the points you are making and there has been talk about the SBC eventually going with 12 football schools.  I'm just saying that unless there's some behind the scenes talking going on between Lamar and the SBC then it's only a pipe dream at the moment.  (I also think Lamar only gets invited to the WAC if all the western schools turn down the WAC.) The SBC will be down to 11 schools once Denver leaves, but they need to lose UALR and/or ULM.  Those two belong in the SLC.  Lamar could then rejoin the SBC along with two other football schools for 12 team all-sports conference that's travel friendly.  IMO, Lamar is a better fit than both UALR and ULM. I really hope this happens.  I do agree with you that Lamar needs to be proactive on this and get it done.  I'm just not sure how high up Lamar is on the SBC's wish list.

 14. This is the stadium now at 16K: [img][Hidden Content]] This could be the stadium at 25K: [img][Hidden Content]] Even at 25K, there's still room to add more seats.  A large pressbox with extra seating can add a few thousand.  A small upper deck or just adding another 10 rows or so on the east side adds even more.  30K is attainable.
 15. And still no invite for Lamar.
 16.

Nobody is perfect and  we all make mistakes, however, Dr. Simmons has done far more good for Lamar than  bad so I will trust him and his team to continue their leadership of Lamar...Devil's Advocate question here, is moving to FBS now in Lamar's best interests?  not saying it is or isn't, but it ain't as easy of a question to answer as some  think
Since there's nowhere to go, I say stay where your at. Personally I think LU would've lost out financially if they would've went to WAC on travelling etc. I think Sunbelt would be a better option. As it stands now, I think SLC is where LU will have to stay for a while IMO.
The odds are good the Lamar will get the invite to the WAC next year.  The WAC will probably end up with 12 to 14 teams with divisions so travel won't be that bad.  Dr. Simmons has said the goal is to be bowl eligible by 2015.  Getting an invite next year puts Lamar right on track to be fully FBS by 2015.
 17. If La Tech stays in the WAC then Lamar gets invited to the WAC.  If La Tech leaves the WAC then both Lamar and SHSU get invited to the WAC.  Either way Lamar goes FBS and the WAC is more than likely to have divisions by the time Lamar joins so it doesn't really matter too much what La Tech does.
 18. $1000 is the cheapest for a table.  Individual seats are $100.
 19. Lamar would be better off in the Sun Belt, but they probably have to go through the WAC to get there.  But joining the WAC would really suck for Lamar if La Tech left because the closest team would be Texas State 5 hours away.

Seattle, really? Horrible IMO.
welcome to the dark side....unlv and coachacola are gonna stroke out
Lamar and maybe SHSU are next in line to get invited to the WAC.  By 2014 the WAC will probably have 12 schools (9 football) with divisions, and it'll be a lot better than the Southland.  If Lamar turns down the WAC then SHSU will accept for sure.
He still hasn't touched home but that last long before there was such a thing as a Super Regional (1984, I think).  Only umplire Tony Patch thinks he did.  For that matter, David Poss DID NOT balk.  Lamar almost made a Super Regional in 2003.   In Sunday games, Trey Rinando who had barely pitched all year (injuries) shut down Texas in game one.  Cards were cruising along in game two when a throwing error on touch third, throw to first dp attempt opened the gates.
I remember watching that game on ESPN with a lot of friends.  We were robbed!!
 22.
"Brandon worked extremely hard last semester and focused on his academics after being ruled ineligible, but came up short in meeting the requirements to return to the court next season," WKU coach Ken McDonald said in a quote released by the school. "To his credit, he did not give up or leave school once it was determined he had to sit out the second half of last season. We are very proud of Brandon for that. Ultimately, this will allow him to continue his academic and basketball careers closer to his home and family, including his newborn son. We wish Brandon and his family all of the best in the future.” Peters had shown flashes of potential before sitting out - he averaged 6.5 points in 23.3 minutes in the 12 games he played (nine starts). That included a career-high 16 points Dec. 18th at Murray State.
[Hidden Content]
 23.
Amazing that an AD would respond in public via the newspaper to conversations made on an internet message board.  Think about that.
Woodard's the head coach, not the AD.  But yeah, it's a stupid article that should have never been written.
 24.
You guys do realize that just two years ago, LU did not have a football program? But now, ya'll are all pissed off that Woodard can't get any FBS schools to come play in our 16,000 seat (albeit very nice) stadium? Please tell me why that would happen when most FBS schools play in front of at least 30,000 people and make at least $500,000 each home game in attendance cash alone, but you guys are expecting them to give that up to come and play in Beaumont against a 2nd year program?
Nobody is pissed about no FBS schools coming to Beaumont now.  We're upset because the article makes it appear that everyone on these message boards expects big name schools to come to Beaumont.  A big part of why a lot of us fans want Lamar to join the WAC or Sun Belt is because FBS will come to Beaumont at that point. Dabe brings up Texas State getting Texas Tech to come to their place, but fails to mention that they will be FBS and in the WAC at that point.  It's just shoddy reporting on Dabe's part and it makes everyone look bad.  Shame on Dabe.
 25. If Wichita State brought back football then I wouldn't mind them and Missouri State joining the conference.  I doubt either one would leave the MVC unless they had FBS aspirations, which for now seems very, very unlikely.  But I think it's possible the teams you list could be the core of the "new" WAC in 3 or 4 years from now because I think Utah State, San Jose State and Idaho will exit the WAC the first chance they get.
