1. As a parent-coach with current 7th graders, it is great to start to be able to see some familiar names showing up on All-District Lists.  9th graders like Alex Richardson (37-4A Girls’ MVP), Pam McFarland (37-4A Defensive MVP), Kirsten Diaz (38-4A Top Midfielder), and Madison Chilton (38-4A Defensive MVP) are well-known to those who have been watching them play in the local and Houston competitive youth leagues over the last few years.  Some names you see now have little sisters that will be in High School soon:  Alex Richardson’s sister Alivia (7th grader playing on State Classic League team); Kirsten Diaz’s sister Madison (6th grader in Division 1 Qualifying); Madison Chilton’s sister Macy (7th grader, SCL); Emmalee Carter’s sister Julie (6th grader playing up onto the 7th grade SCL team); Kat Padgett’s sister Raegan (8th grader I think, playing President’s Cup currently) – I’m sure I’ve left some out, so sorry!  All of these are likely to end up on these same lists, and perhaps high upon them, in the next few years.  (There are also a pair of Madisons to look out for next year in Lumberton – you could put together a whole team full of Madisons and be well off). Whatever your coaching style might be, one thing is true -- before any player reaches 9th grade, the foundation that you are going to be working with in the future has been built ahead of time.  The technique, dedication, and tactical skill-set base that will be entrusted to you is being developed over a hundred or more games and in some cases over one or two thousand hours of practice during their U7-U14 years.  Also, in many cases, during the High School soccer off-season, they continue to play for Club Teams. There is no single parent-coach or single professional trainer to take the credit (or blame!), but instead a local youth soccer community with many dedicated parent-coaches and a few professional trainers.  They come from different Clubs; they play at different Levels or in different Leagues; they even butt heads from time to time.  But they all share the same goals as you:  to develop players who have a great high school experience, who represent our area in Statewide competition, and who might possibly go on to greater things.  We want to help you, and if you want to help us help you, I respectfully make some requests: 1) Please spread this to the other high school coaches! 2) Thomas Shenton (email [email protected], cell 832-691-0021) is the current Head Trainer at the Beaumont Youth Soccer Club.  BYSC and Spindletop Select are in the process of reuniting and we expect Thomas will have access to all aspects of the current clubs.  In addition to being a fine trainer he is also a reliable and energetic administrator who wants to develop relationships with the entire local soccer community.  Give him a call and get to know him.  Get to know your local Club folks as well if you are far away from Beaumont. 3) If you have time to do some professional/paid training, let us know!  UIL/TAPPS rules place some prohibitions which of course must be honored, but the Academy program is starting formal training with 3rd graders so there are opportunities to work with the kids well before 7th grade. 4) If you know of a former player who is interested in applying to be part of the training staff, let us know!  Coach Hopson was kind enough to tip us off to Brent Waldrup, a former player of his, who is now one of the Spindletop Select associate trainers. 5) Encourage players and parents (again, consistent with UIL/TAPPS rules) to look into the different options available for their child beyond terrorizing the local recreational-level teams.  You know that by the time High School tryouts roll around, the fact that the Sunflowers or the Desperados were undefeated in the rec league for three years straight won't affect your evaluation of the player. 6) Keep on doing what you’re doing.  As local soccer teams get success and accolades, it gives the kids something to look forward to.  They will work harder and you will reap the benefits! John
2. We will also, during the first week, have open youth play (all nights except Wednesday) and open adult play on Wednesday night and Friday from 8PM-11PM. Adult leagues are also forming.  Please check out QuinnIndoorSoccer.com, also "like" us on Facebook at "Quinn Indoor Soccer". Thanks for your patience.  You will find the facility worth the wait! John
3. Interested in working at or assisting to manage Quinn Indoor Soccer? Have a team that might want to play at Quinn Indoor Soccer? Information available at the facility -- Sunday October 9, 2:30-3:45
4. Shark and Rip have it. When it opens it is going to open "right."  As many of you know, Cris Quinn was a lawyer at Reaud, Morgan & Quinn.  We've been occupied with some big cases that have kept us from putting the final pieces in place to get the facility opened. When it is time to open we will be sure to publicize it. Sorry for the delay. John
5. Congratulations to Macy Chilton (Vidor H.S. class of 2018?) and Sophie Manibo (Beaumont ? class of 2018?), who were both invited to attend the ODP Region III Camp in Alabama.  Only about 50% of the ODP players were invited to attend so this is very rarefied air. Also, if you look at the list, it is pointedly not in alphabetical order, and I think it is not at all random that Macy and Sophie are listed 5th and 8th respectively out of the 30 that were invited. Come on down Tuesday April 5 at 6:00PM at the Quinn Soccer Fields (Spindletop Select high-ground fields) to see them play each other in an EDDOA game between two SSSC teams. Also congrats to Madison Soileau (Lumberton H.S. class of 2017?) who made the 97 camp, one of only 18 girls invited! John
6. CoachL (or whoever else is involved in organizing this) will you please give me a call or e-mail when you can? Thanks John 409-659-0491 [email protected]
7. Hey Shark (or whoever else was involved in organizing this) will you please give me a call or email when you can? thanks John 409-659-0491 [email protected]
8. Hey Hawk, whoever put that together (maybe you!), please give me a call or e-mail. We're here to help the soccer community generally.  The more we all can work together, the better for everyone. Next year I bet we can do something to raise the profile of the game(s). John 659-0491 www.QuinnIndoorSoccer.com or [email protected]
9. Good news!  We have a (rudimentary) website up and running: www.QuinnIndoorSoccer.com Facebook should follow soon! On the website you should be able to download the Team Information form.  Team managers/captains, please fill these out and return them to the PO Box as soon as you can.  There is no obligation, but we are going to use this information to determine how many different divisions of play there will be and what times to set league play.  Also, once we start forming leagues, those "in the system" will get early notification. Thanks John
10. I will leave it to others to post the image, but there is going to be a modest groundbreaking ceremony on Friday 7/16 at 10:30AM for the Cris Quinn Indoor Soccer Field.  The building will be located at the Cris Quinn Memorial Soccer Complex (formerly The Meadows), on the high ground just south of the SSSC fields. Barring any problems with construction or weather (ha!) we hope to have it open and operating by the end of the calendar year.  The facility will be open to the public, with a preference for youth soccer but it will also have availability for adults at appropriate times.  It will be operated by the Cris Quinn Foundation as a non-profit, that is to say, the usage charges will be only as much as necessary to cover operating costs and rainy-day fund for repairs. Hopefully this will be a great asset to the local soccer community.  Right now operating plans are still being developed.  If you have any ideas or want to get involved, please attend the SYSA meeting, currently set for Monday July 12 at the BYSC Adminstration building, 7PM.  Also you can direct any questions you have to me at [email protected] or the cell number listed below. Thanks John Werner 409-659-0491
