"Dayton stands are a dump"???? I guess since the people in Barbers Hill are eating their hot dogs with "Gray Poupon" on them they think "good stands" are made of concrete are built into the sides of hills (like Baytown's or Galena Park's) Truth be told.... The stadium structure itself in Dayton is a gazzilion times better than Barbers Hill... I do give Barbers Hill the edge on at least having the school parking lots to use and also the dressing room facilities are better at the Hill, but to say that the stands in Dayton (almost twice as large in total capacity) is a dump... Ignorance exists even in wealth.... I do hope Barbers Hill does get a quality coach (unfortunately they just got rid of the person who qualifies under the job description). Good luck to the guy that comes in there, I hope he can find starting spots for all the "blue bird" parents out there that think their child is an all American.
Since we are both without a football season, got to poke at you about something...... ;) Up until next year, we can't brag about kicking your tail in football, so at least we can take a shot at you when we can ;D ;D All kidding aside, the turf is nice and sonic was not too far to park.... ;) -

I think BH would be a great draw and all these post won't matter one bit at the end of the day. I agree, anyone with Alymond's resume would likely not leave for BH unless he wanted to stay close to home and nothing better was out there. As for press box and not having turff, I have to take up for Price here. I also would love turff and a new visitor side. Yes I think we need it and yes I think we will get it. Now don't go think I am getting soft on Price, I am not.... ;D Fact is most of us do not have an unlimited amount of money to spend at will. If we did we probably woulnd not be living in Chamber County and certainly would not be posting on here. We all remember (well, most older folks do) The Robin Hood Act. Then, BH dumped a ton of cash into almost every building we have. Since then we have added a new baseball field, new football practice field, junior high football field/track, improved basketball facilities, new score board, improved home side of football stands, built new press box, and much more. I can't even begin to imagine what all this cost and I am pretty sure anyone from smiley, CE king, Dayton, Crosby, etc..... would love to have 1/2 the money BH spent. The great news is the citizens approved those funds through bond referindums. Consider those who have turf and what facilities they have: Dayton's stand are poor at best, Dayton's locker rooms are older than dirt, Crosby's stands are so small you have to share a hot dog with your neighbor, Galena Park shares their stadium with someone (not just anyone either, NS). There are poor districts who have nothing and that's giving them some. I really think we need to be thankful for what we have and be responsible with what we want/need. We have spent a ton of money and yes we need to spend more. Hopefully the new guy will put together a plan the Board will approve for turf and expanding the visitor side stands. Frankly, with all that has been done over the past years, not sure how anyone could justify that expense before now. OK, so not to be soft........glad we are getting a new coach. -
Aymond is already making over 100K, so money will not be the issue, he is making plenty of it. By the way, North Shore should have more than one state title on their hands with all the D1 athletes they pump out each year. They may be ready to see him go, but he would be coaching a different kind of kid at BH than NS.
In 2005 his estimated salary (based on 1995 actual plus a stadard inflation rate) put him at $99,958 (estimated). Then, he was estimated to be the 6th higest paid coach for the survey conducted ; I am sure he is over 100K by now. He does have a resume, no doubt. -

School board meets tonight. Hopefully they will approve a plan to begin the interview process after the holidays. That will give time for the state championship games to be played and everyone should then be available for whatever comes. ] -

Congrads to Dawson in winning region 3!
;) ;) ;) ;)What's goes around... comes around! Congrads to Dawson.
Thats right Mama - kinda like calling your game vs FW personal, that worked out real well did it not! Stop fixating on FW and get working on your own shop! Dawson has a ton of talent, played well and we did not. Had nothing to do with pulling players early from the blowout game the week before, give me a break. If we had not pulled them, we would have heard you whining mama about running up the score. Try using some positive energy, you will live longer. We will remember your attitudes for a long time Soulja and Mama! Real class acts! Congrats Dawson and good luck vs LT - you will need it!
And LT just keeps on truckin - clearly the class of 4a. Dawson folks got a little cocky on the houston area scout forum, they now know what LT is all about! Good run by our district and nice job to be regional champs Dawson! See ya next year!
Spoke to a buddy of mine Friday whos son is starting middle linebacker for LT. He mentioned all the smack from Dawson....LOL He told me the LT kids had read the post and decided they would settle their differences on the field. I guess they were frustrated, looking at the score. LOL Still have not hear from my buddy whos kid plays for Dawson, figure I would let him recover.

They are very good. A State Championship Team is more often than not recognizably better than other teams. They have a different swagar about them. That's what makes early season predictions of a state championship so funny, especially from mediocre teams. I had friends who have kids on both teams and I tried telling my Dawson friend it was going to be an ugly day. Any team 2009 Crosby takes to the wire is not ready for a Lake Travis. Nothing against Crosby, but LT is a different animal.
I don't think the AD is making the kids smart! The Parents and Teacher may have something to do with this ::)
No he is not "making the kids smart". He did provide them with an environment that was conducive to mainting a high level of education.
True, but these kids are maintaining their grade levels because of the Parents and Teachers not the AD's. The AD's giving the kids the opprotunity to study more does make it easier for them to maintain these grades. I'm just saying it isn't then next AD's resonsibility to keep our grades high! He has enough to do just getting BH football back to where it needs to be.
Back from where? 9 years of 90+ wins. You have the guy that was responsible for setting the standard of excellence in the football program and all others as well. There is something definately strange about all this. What is the truth?
How many of those 90+ wins were against quality opponents? Playoff wins? You can take those 10-0 seasons against one of the weakest 3A districts in Texas and file them! In the end they ended up as a loss to the first team that had a coach! I'm glad we could beat Tarkington 65-0 I mean that was really outstanding. Don't look at the record look at the quality of the teams that we played to achieve the record! I've said it once and I'll say it again BH was not born with the arrival of Price and it will not die with his departure. Price turned this program around and made it good now it's time to make it great! I'm not talking State Championships here I'm just can't wait till the day the BH beats a team that they are an underdog too due to coaching!!! I 've sat in the stands an watched us get beat by teams in the playoffs during those mammoth 10-0 seasons by pure coaching Kirbyville, Sweeny, Rice Consolidated to name a few! For the Sweeny game BH was picked to win by 17 and lost by that much or more! For those that are reading the articles to base their opinion and have not attended the games for the last 10 years you don't have a leg to stand on! I'll back away and let the wise ones talk about how stupid i am and that the Board is out to get everyone and 10-0 this and 90 wins that! At the end of the day it was time for a change and someone, somehow had the foresite to understand that BH football has peaked with the current AD! I'm going to try not to respond, but I will read so tell me how ingnorant I am ;D
:-* :-* :-* Now you know BHFAN your asking someone with limited knowledge to reason with facts. ;D ;D ;D Points in Case: Kirbyville - We went to a prevent defense with very little time remaining on the clock and allowed them to throw the ball downfield a couple times and set-up for a wining field goal with time running out. The first half we made no adjustments, the second half we shut them down. Lamar Consolidated - They ran trick play after trick play and we were never ready for any of them. Including a fake punt, which everyone was yelling watch for the fake. Sweeny - We had one of the best defenses BH has had. We got embarrised by their preperation, planning, and execution. I'll add two more. This year vs. GCM the wind was blowing 20-30 mph and raiing cats and dogs. Our game plan was to throw the ball....A LOT. This year vs. Dayton, we shut their running game and long pases down. What we do? We set our defensive backs 10-15 yards off the ball and Dayton threw the ball 5-7 yards the rest of the night. Why you need a running game if your apponent is going to let you do that? Stewart embarrised our defensive coaching. Late in 2nd half we decided to throw the ball when we got down and as one Dayton poster put it, they felt like they were playing Lake Travis again. Again, waited to long to make adjustments. Finally, you have a sophmore Qb playing his first varsity game and we never made any reasonable effort to pass rush him. First snap I would have sent the house and got him off balance early. No, we set back and let him getcomfortable and do whathe wanted. Can't wait for the change.....ready to see what's on the horizon for the eagles, including District changes and coaching changes. -
So who are the top teams in this tournament?
-
If they send anymore like Dayton got, BH will take 3 and feel free to "super size" that order. ;D
Never underestimate the wisdom and the energy of an old coach. The blitz is still a good defensive strategy and I have been called "BLITZ" Byrd. What a great run we all had at Barbers Hill. We all had a great time day in and day out. You guys that have never coached high school kids - you are truely missing a blessing. The kids at Barbers Hill are great kids, hard workers, and they will get after you. Thanks to all you Barbers Hill guys, Coach Byrd
Amen Coach, hope to see you walking the chalk next year. As a fan I appreciate what you did for the kids and us bleacher coaches.
Great Post by Kindafunny. As a coach we should be held responsible to coach ALL student athletes, whether male or female, football or basketball or baseball or soccer or track, as if they were all possibly D-1 athletes because THEY ALL ARE!! And if you coach, and don't follow that idea, then you are doing your student athletes a disservice. Or if you are too tired to work to help them get into college for athletics or just to become a future coach/teacher, you need to get out of the profession. There are a lot of coaches that are too lazy or think too highly of themselves to go the extra mile for ALL student athletes. The true D-1 athletes will get attention from those college coaches. It is the ones that are capable of playing D-2, D-3, NAIA, or juinor college that need the high school coaches attention. I have made it a point to train all like D-1 prospects and work like the devil to get all others interest from the lower college levels. Student athletes can read a coach very quickly and tell whether they are self-serving OR student/athlete serving. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of great ones out there who are student first. My mentors Jerry Stewart of Dayton and Kent Bachtel of Waco Midway are definitely student first. Other coaches I've worked with that I would put in that category are Todd Schoppe (now AD at Laporte), Mike Bass (now Ad at Alvin), Coach Carson at Woodlands College Park, Dexter Wesley the OC at Aldine, Coach Simmons at Aldine (formerly of Smiley), and Bruce Bell formerly of Forest Brook and North Texas U. You also don't have to look any further than some of your youth leagues. There is no pay there just love for the kids. I know there are some bad apples in youth sports, just like in high school sports, but there are some youth coaches that I would like to have on my staff because I coached them throughout high school and I truly know their character. One that is like that is a Barbers Hill parent, Marcus Hamilton, who tries to work out BH athletes in the summer to help out the program. He has his heart in the right place and I wish he had a teaching certificate - I would hire him in an instant. He is the type of community member that makes Barbers Hill a great place to live.
Refreshing words Coach........very well put. At least now, according to another poster, I won't have to tell my daughter she is unlikely to be Valedictorian and can now make 70's to just get by. ;) -

Crosby played on heck of a game against a VERY big and fast Dawson. Could have gone either way. Great season coogs. OK 20-4A, if yall want to watch football next week 19-4A is still here to help you out...... ;D ;D -
Fun game to watch tonight. Dayton, you better play your better QB for the majority of 4 quarters. Just my opinion and nothing against #10, but that's a lot of pressure to put on a youngster and he does not have the running skills or size that P. has. Man wished I could have that running back for El Campo for a few years.....what a stud. Have very fast kids over there too.
BH89-2 you can spin all you want, I was there and I know what went down. And it was the outporing of support for Don that totally wrecked the plans of your precious board, for which all we know "you" are a part of. The deeds been done, no changing it now. Just don't try to spin the events to make yourself feel better. I want things to turn out great for BH just like everyone does. But I will not act like I'm happy with what happened when I'm not. The people on your side of the fence are happy, fine! Just don't expect everyone one to be happy with the way it was handled. You have been in here for the past couple of months spewing your dislike for coach Price, calling him names and just waiting for the day to come. Well it's easy to see that apparently someone tipped you off that it was going down because you've been crowing about it for weeks. Well now you can have your "county wide" B-B-Q that you boasted about a few weeks ago, you got what you wanted. ENJOY!
You got me, I am a long time board member...... ;D No sense in beating this dead horse, he is gone and I am looking forward to what the school does going forward. Hope it all works out in the end, BBQ or not. Wished I had been on the Board though, he would not have made it this long.....promise you that. Well, got to run and go check my hotwire to the Board room. ;) ;) -

Former BH player, coach going into Hall By Doyle Barlow Baytown Sun Published May 4, 2007 Pennee Hall has accomplished a lot in her basketball career as a player and coach. Hall, who currently coaches at Livingston, can add another accolade to that list Saturday in Austin when she is inducted into the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. “I received a call in December and was told I was going to be inducted,†Hall said. “It was quite a shock.†It shouldn’t have been. Her numbers at Barbers Hill, first as a player then as a coach, are enough to merit her induction. As a player at Barbers Hill, she led the 1982 and 1983 teams to state championships and scored 3,587 career points. Hall then went on to play at Louisiana Tech for two years then three more at the University of Texas. Then in nine years as head coach at Barbers Hill, Hall guided the Lady Eagles to a 282-50 mark, which included the 1997 Class 3A state championship in addition to a 1993 semifinal appearance. Her teams also won nine consecutive unbeaten district titles and went 102-0 against district opponents. Hall left Barbers Hill to become an assistant at Stephen F. Austin. She departed the Nacogdoches school for Livingston in 2004. In her playing days, Hall was a point guard, a position that helped her transition to coaching. “When you’re a point guard, coaches call you their coach on the floor,†Hall said. “It’s just like football. You’re the quarterback. “But coaching and playing are totally different concepts. I was more in control as a player and as a coach, you just try to give direction. I have had a lot of fun doing both.†Hall said that winning the state championship as a coach at Barbers Hill is her career highlight — to this point. “When you can guide a team and do that it’s the ultimate achievement,†she said. “Only five teams in the state can do that each year.†Hall expects a contingent of around 60 people to be on hand for her induction. Many of those will be family members, but many will also be Mont Belvieu people who have watched her career her whole life. “I grew up there and was raised there and Barbers Hill really likes its sports,†Hall said. “It will always have a special place in my heart. A lot of those people saw me grow up and go through a lot of different things.†Those people can now add Saturday’s induction to that list. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
