1. BH boys forced to drop out of Classic By Doyle Barlow Baytown Sun Published December 21, 2006 Faced with a choice of paying for a mistake now or paying for it later, Barbers Hill chose the former. As a result, when the Gulf Coast Classic tips off next week at Barbers Hill, the BH boys basketball team will be on the sidelines watching instead of playing. The Eagles will be sitting after it was discovered that if they played, they would be in violation of UIL rules that limit how many games a team can play. UIL regulations state that a team is only allowed to play 21 regular season games and three tournaments. Barbers Hill has already played 16 games this season, although seven of those were in tournament play and don’t count against the regulkar season total. But having played nine regular season contests with 13 district games remaining, playing in the Gulf Coast Classic would have put them over the limit. As a result, the Eagles would have been forced to forfeit their last District 21-4A contest, and there’s a possibility that a forfeit could have major ramifications on the final district standings. “It’s an embarrassing situation having to drop out of our own tournament but the positive is we caught it before we violated any rules,” Barbers Hill athletic director Don Price said. “Our goal is to win district titles and we didn’t want to be in a situation where a forfeit cost us a chance at a district championship. “We messed up and it’s our responsibility. It’s just unfortunate for the kids.” Barbers Hill head coach Nathan Toon is who made the schedule, and Price said it was possible that last year’s redistricting played a part in scheduling too many non-district games. “This year we’re in an eight-team district and last year we were in a six-team district,” Price said. “That means we have four more district games this season than we did a year ago. The coach just overlooked the number of district games we have.” Price also added that there will not be any disciplinary action against Toon. “I stopped trying to walk on water a long time ago,” Price said. “One mistake is not the time to bring down the hammer. If it was intentional that would be one thing but it was an honest mistake.” The Gulf Coast Classic will start next Thursday. Even though the Eagles aren’t in the tournament, they will play a regular season game against Caney Creek after the Barbers Hill girls play their tournament opener.
2. It's always funny how people take part of the truth and spin it to make their own version of the story.  Barbers Hill district meeting centers on A.D. By Ken Fountain Baytown Sun Published June 7, 2005 MONT BELVIEU – During an unusually crowded meeting of the Barbers Hill school district, several people voiced their strong support for Don Price, head high school football coach and district athletic director. But when Superintendent Wayne Rotan announced that Price’s job was secure following a lengthy executive session, the C.T. Joseph Conference Center quickly emptied. Rumors had flown since last week that Price would be dismissed or his duties altered, and the audience was buzzing with excitement as the meeting time approached. Board president Philip Joines entreated both public speakers and board members to treat each other respectfully. The first speaker was Bruce Mintz, an attorney for Price, who was not able to attend. Mintz said he would make a demand that any discussions of Price’s employment be done during an open session or a public meeting. Laurie Guidry told the board members that “it’s said that the public has to be here because we are afraid that our athletic director’s job is in jeopardy.” “We don’t think you support our athletic director or the superintendent,” she said. “It’s not your role to check references, or to micromanage (the administration).” “Get off their backs and let them do their jobs,” she said. Most of the speakers who followed reiterated Guidry’s support for Price. “His record speaks for itself. He’s had 40-plus victories, and many, many winning seasons,” said Kenny Robbins. Susan Fregia, a teacher with the district for 21 years, said that sports” is more than just about winning, and Don Price exemplifies that.” “He exemplifies the integrity and the honor and the hope that I strive to teach in my classroom,” she said. Angel Coon said that she was primarily interested in talking about the basketball program, particularly the girls program, which she said had fallen behind after a period of several winning seasons. “I think the program is at a critical juncture. We need to decide if we’re going to bolster the program, or watch as it withers away before our eyes,” she said. Coon implored the trustees to “do whatever it takes to put in the right people (to improve the program).” Former girls basketball coach Angela Gober, who resigned about three weeks ago, said that she appeared to “squelch any rumors about why I left.” Gober said that unlike rumors that she and Price did not get along, she resigned in order to help her mother, who is in failing health, as she wrote in her resignation letter. After hearing from all the speakers, the board retired into an executive session that lasted nearly an hour. When they emerged, the board unanimously approved a number of personnel changes recommended by Rotan, none of which included Price or a new girls basketball coach. Afterward, Rotan told the audience that he had had discussions with Price about the possibility of creating a new position of girls athletics coordinator, who would directly handle the day-to-day administration of the girls programs. The person in that position would answer to Price, he said. Rotan said that the district’s size did not justify the creation of a separate athletics director position. Rotan said that he and Price were also discussing the hiring of a new girls basketball coach. “I want the same thing everybody in this room does, to have a successful program, Coach Price and I will do whatever it takes to get the best person available,” he said, adding that there were several potential “in-house” candidates. In response to a question posed by trustee Benny May, Rotan said a decision should me made before the end of the month. Following the discussion of the athletics program, the next and last item on the agenda was a budget workshop for the next school year. The nearly filled seats of the auditorium quickly emptied.
3. Dawson has 3 very good backs and a Qb who can run or throw.  Hope Crosby wins but I don't see it happening.
4.
Its cold and wet folks!!!!!!
I huddled under an umbrella with a 2-year old for 1/2 the Crosby game, but she was not going to make another game in the rain and wind.  Crosby was kicking Montgomery's tail, but it looks like Montgomery went hail-mary a few time with some success.  Good luck Dayton.  Win this one so our folks on the wrong side of the Trinty River have someone to watch next week.  ;)
5. Congrats Coogs......way to represent the better of the two districts out of 20-4A and 19-4A.  Guess we now know who had the better district.  ;) ;)  So when Dayton wins in a few hours I guess the Golden Triangle will finally admit they were not as good as our district.... 8)  Now as for Dawson, well I wish you the best, but man they are a whole different football team than what either of the two above districts have seen.  Very big, very fast, and very athletic.  My good friends son is an offensive lineman for Dawson and I call him tiny......for not so good a reason.  ;D
6. Congrats PNG on a great season and very nice to see an example of a coach to be proud, eapecially one form out of area.  Hope we get to play again next year and hopefully we have a new coach from elsewhere too with as much luck his first.  Great job.  No shame in losing to Brenham.
7.
C'mon Indians!  Take it to em!  DEFENSE...strip that ball....lets go, Indians! You can do it! 3 and out, D!!!!!!!
Scalpm cubs scalpm...... ;D ;D  Sorry dude, had to poke at you since it's your favorite saying.  Guess PNG met a real team finally.
8. What's score? Last I heard was not good, Indians getting spanked.
9.
Russell Roberts?  Andy Evans?  These guys couldn't hold Don Price's jock. BH fans, heed this warning.  You are playing in 4A.  You are outmatched week in and week out.  Your school isn't getting any smaller, and your athletes will fall farther and farther behind due to obvious reasons.  Whoever you hire will lead you to consistent 4-6 or 5-5 records for many years to come.   Don Price is a class act.  An offensive innovator.  A dedicated coach and AD.  You guys on the hill messed up, messed up bad.
You have a Dallas Cowboys avitar and you end your praise for Price by discussing his jock.......... ::)  I am pretty sure we all forgot what your point is....... ;D ;D
10.
GCMbigdaddy it's looking more and more that you are really from BH and might be one of the haters! ;D
This is slightly outdated, however a start for who is out there and what it might take to get them.  Notice Stewart (Dayton) is paid well.  There are some very good teams who have low paid coaches, as compared to their results.   ]
11.
I can tell you what the inner circle is looking for. I have heard it before. And it has nothing to do about football. I look for Penee Hall to come back as the AD\HC of the girls Basket Ball and for BH to just hire a head football coach who ever it is. The main reason she left in the first place is because she didn't get the AD job when Price got it. Certain people have daughters coming up that are good and successful basket ball players thru the junior high and little dribblers leagues. One group even won nationals. and they want their kids to have the best opportunity and coach to take them back and win state and she has deep roots here even with certain members on the school board. Just my opinion.
I don't think there will be any change in the girls head basketball coach.  She and Price never got along.  Boy she sure could play basketball.
12. Slipped to 2nd place, please vote again.  You can vote once a day till Dec 1st.
13. I agree and have always said, Price did what appears to be a great job securing money for facilities.  Wish him luck and he should not have trouble finding a job.  I figure he would retire with his wife somewhere in the hill country.  She can practice law anywhere. As for a new coach, I agree and hope we go outside and do our due dilligence to find the best candidate for the job.  That's coming from someone who is about as BH as it comes, from a relative and historical family tree standpoint.  I want to be able and sit in the stands, win or lose know the coach is doing the best he can to lead the boys on and off the field.  The respect and sportsmanship everyone credits Price for is something kids who live in BH learn long before they reach high school.  That has always been the case, at least since we beat a team by 90 or more points long ago. Like it or not, this is the right decision for BH due to many reasons.  This decision had very little to do with X's and O's or wins and losses.  There are politics everywhere, especially in a high profile job.
14.

GCM Pats..Why do you think Dayton is a better candidate to move into 20-4A?  I think BH is actually a little closer (I-10 vs HWY 90).  I know the majority of BH fans/parents I know would prefer to be in 20-4A...not just for football, but for the better overall competition  in all sports.  Isn't GCM going move up? Note to any mods reading:  might be a good idea to create a "sticky" thread with official enrollment numbers of area schools.  This topic is sure to get BIG soon as we approach Feb realignment!
I never understood why they always put Dayton in with us instead of BH? If BH were to move to 20-4A it would make an already tuff baseball district brutal.Probably the tuffest in the state.
It would make a good baseball district, but there is some very good competition south near Corpus.  Football would be fun and very interesting for all.  Volleyball would be much improved.  Worse part of it all is playing near Orange.......Just Kidding Koop.  ;D ;D
15. I have to say Nederland trying and getting the onside kick against Crosby to make a comeback from very slim odds to make it a game.  Nederland fans had all but gone to sleep until the score just before the recovery.  They went from wimpering to barking again.
16. Funny you mention PNG "whining"....  I watched Crosby and Nederland play last week and sitting on the Crosby side I saw a row of PNG shirts burried in all that black.  Looked as if those nederland fans were giving the refs heck for sure and each time they stood up to "whine" the purple would vanish.  When they sat back down the purple was still there.  I don't think BH whined too much about the officiating, as it was pretty a clean called game and most BH folks I was around were bashing the head coach.
17. Don't forget to vote for Mathew Vivarette (Told below you can vote one time per hour) to be the Private School to 4A Grid Iron Offensive Player of the Year for Houston Channel 55. ] VOTE NOW PLEASE and EACH DAY UNTIL DEC 1st.
18. I have watched 2 of the 3 match-ups from these two districts and there was not any rolling going on in any of the games, except Crosby for 3 quarters today.  They stopped playing when they got a big lead (credit to Nederland too) or it would have been 40+ to 13, as it should have been.  Dawgs were ticked and Neuman started coaching better.  The wildcat seems to be working for Nederland and PNG both.......interesting to see in high school this year.
19. For 3 plus quarters looked like Crosby was going to blow them out. Almost let one get away.....for sure.  Much credit to the Dawgs, just as the bark went away, it was back again.  Kids from Nederland played a full 4 quarters and then some.  Made it interesting.  Crosby better stop playing not to lose before next week. What's the deal with one of Crosby's receivers (wont call him out individually)  All year this kid drops passes, including this game, runs 1/2 ars routs, stand alone on the sideline, has to have coaches tell him to get with his team, then thought it was cute to dance and jive in the middle of the field near Nederland players after the win.  I'd put him on the bench for all those reasons.
20. So, if you were the Superintendent and wanted to hire a new head coach at Barbers Hill, who out there is worth inquiring about?  Inside or outside the State, who shines as a prospect that might be interested in bringing back a "Tradition of Excellence"? You don't have to be a BH supporter to offer suggestions.  La Marque's current head coach comes to mind, as he is not getting the reception he deserves in La Marque, which in my opinion is more due to a declining enrollment than coaching ability.  Other schools with potential: Gilmer Burnet Wimberly Anahuac (Barbay)
21.

when was Dayton's last State Championship?
Because that has something to do with THIS year??  Well if PNG is only satisfied WINNING state championships then they'll be vastly disappointed this year.  Revelation - PNG does not have the talent to win state this year.
No disrespect to PNG, and I have never agreed with Rollinac, but he is right on target here.  State Championship teams don't struggle with a 4th place team and will always play at a different level than anyone PNG has played or ever will this year.  There is a SIGNIFICANT difference between PNG and Lake Travis, Dallas Carter, Longview.....etc.... Again, no disrespect because Faircloth has taken an average bunch of kids and got the best out of them.  Good luck with Brenham.
22. Thanks! Vote daily until December 1st.......
23. Hey PNG fans, don't forget to vote once a day for our QB in the Grid Iron Awards.  Figured since you had 20,000 fns at the game we could use some of those votes......LOL This is posted in another thread, but it's not directed to anyone other than BH fans.  Mathew Viverette has been nominated for the Grid Irion award and needs your vote.  Please support a player from a SETXSPORTS team.
