PNG/ BH GAME WILL BE SHOWN SAT. AT NOON CH. 15!!
bh89-2 replied to FOOTBALLFEVER99's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Can't wait till Friday and caon't wait to see the new PNG stadium. That old stadium really sucked for the incredible following you have. One day BH will get a few more seats on the visitor side. I expect there should be a fairly large crowd form BH at the game. Nothing like PNG brings, but a lot. I also think the game will be a little closer than expected, even though BH is down again this year. The defense is playing decent ball and should be able to hold their own, assuming we can stop the downhill run. -
Holy crap it was HOT.....LOL Not that I didn't expect it, but 110 degF is just a bit too hot for bass fishing. We decided not to hit Sugar due to border issues, but Falcon was ok. The lake is falling an inch a day and the heat made conditions a little tough. When it's like that on falcon you have to dunk pegged baits into the brush tops with 80 lb braid. We chose not to do that and picked off a few decent fish by toher eans, mainly deep crank baits in 14-22 feet of water. We did hit choke canyon one after noon and one morning, but lake is 10 feet low and fishing was not very good after a front. Caught one fish 5lbs and two smaller ones in about 3-4 hours total fishing. Falcon we had 2 over 9lbs, 3 over 8lbs, 1 over 7, and 1 over 6. A number of them between 4-5lbs and a lot of other smaller fish. Caught a bunch of catfish and one 45lb gar that was for a short time the world record bass....LOL Fished Friday morning/evening, Saturday morning and headed to choke for Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Sorry didn't take many pics, but I'll try to post a few here. [Hidden Content] 8.5 lb [Hidden Content] 9.08 lb [Hidden Content] Falcon lake Border on dang.

Can't wait on that shake. BH is about as bad as I can recall seeing. Neither QB was worth watching and the O-line is about as small as we have had. Of course our wonderful coaching still sucks, no changes there. Gonna be a long season. Heck, even the water boys/girls stunk it up. Now thats my optomistic view..... -
I wrote a small pamplet on bass care for TABC two years ago if anyone is interested. I'll see if Coop can post it here for everyone to get. If not PM me and I'll email you a copy. Some of the information is a little dataed and I have changed my mind about a few items, however for the most part it is pretty good stuff. Bottom line is this, everything David mentioned does not matter one bit if you don't take care of the fish in the live well and through the weigh-in. Here are a few additional tips: 1. Keep your livewell water between 68-72 degrees when the water is warmer than 75. (CRITICAL) Fish metabolism and waste production will increase rapidly as water temperature rises and with the stress of being caught. It takes about 8lbs of ice to lower the water temperature in a 30 gallon live well 10 deg f for about 3-4 hours in the summer. Use 1/2 gallon jugs as apposed to only having bags of ice. Will last longer. 2. Buy an oxygen bottle and regulator for your livewell. Best 200 bucks you will ever spend. See Boyd's One-Stop in Texas City for a good deal on a system. 3. Go buy a livewell additive for bass produced by www.sure-life.com called "Catch and Release". Their product is the best I have used and I know the owners and their research very well. They have a tranquilizer in their product that helps to calm the fish, as well as benefitial elements for fish recover. No I am not a salesmen and don't get one penny for saying this. Yes Academy and other's sell it. 4. Do not use an "Oxygen Generator" such as any that are run by electricity. You need a special livewell additive that does not contain salt to use this type product. Salt and elctricity, in general terms, creates chlorine in your water and it will kill your fish. 5. Do not ever use a livewell additive that contains garlic. It will kill your fish. Not to name a product, but the green bottle and green additive you all have seen is not good for fish. 6. If your not using "Catch and Release" flush your livewell every hour when you have fish in the livewell. The biological waste will kill the fish if you don't do this. 7. When you put fish in a weigh bag, a 15 or greater stringer of fish will deplete the oxygen in the water in just a few minutes. Make sure to fill your bag will cool clean water and if there are weigh tanks in front of your weigh-in line, replinish the water at each tank. Your fish can and will die going through a weigh-in line. I have seen many fish called alive at the entry and I call them dead at the tank or release point. 8. One thing I have changed my mind about is the use of hydrogen peroxide in a livewell. You can add 1oz of hydrogen peroxide (like you buy at the store) per 4-gallons of water. Hydrogen peroxide has an extra oxygen molecule and does offer some antimicrobial benefits for the fish. This addition will increase the dissolved oxygen levels in your water. Don't over-do this because you can burn the gills and eyes of the fish. 9. Go to ebay and buy a dissolved oxygen meter. I got one for 80-100 bucks and it is an absolute fish saver. You need to maintain around 10PPM of dissolved oxygen in your livewell. Fish will become stressed and die between 3-5 PPM dissolved oxygen. Some of you got a 50K boat, spend 300 on oxygen and a DO meter....really....LOL. 10. Keep fiz needles on your boat and learn how to fiz a bass. I will be running conservation for the TABC tournament on Rayburn Sept. 26 & 27 if anyone wants to come by and learn how to do it. You can fiz till your fizzer runs out...LOL. 11. Do these things and you'll spend more time fishing instead of looking in the livewell every 10 minutes to see if something is dead or belly up. If it goes belly-up as soon as you catch it, you probably need to fiz it.

Headed to Facon and Sugar Lake (Zapata and Mexico) next Thursday to take one of you Port Arthur boys on a real fishing trip.....yes, no stumps......lol A friend of mine from Zapata recently caught a 5-fish limit (one-day) stringer over 50lbs. Go to [Hidden Content] and check out that stringer total......WOW! I'll post a report when we get back. Been several months since I was last on Falcon, looking forward to the trip.

Nah, running southwest out of Freeport. Fishing in and around the east breaks area (55-70 mile range). There is 1000+ feet of water out that way (also known as the grand canyon on the gulf). I fish Freeport mainly because of the shallow depths out of Galveston. You can get 250+ of water in most directions out of freeport within 60-70 miles. Back side of Tequilla rig is over 450 and close to very deep water and that's about 65-70 out. Have not done much from Sabine, however I guess if you run South/East out of Sabine you could get some deeper water?

Had a 14.4 in March 2006 on Choke Canyon fishing near the danm. The next week had an 11.58 during the bass champs tournament and won big bass and ended up with 11th place. The last cast of the day during that tournament I had a fish equal to the 11.58 bite-off my ole monster worm right at the boat as I was reeling up. dang fish bit the worm off about 1/2 an inch behind my 5/0 Gamagatsu hook. Had we landed it we would have won the tournament. Best part of it all is my fishing partner weighed the bag of fish and took his picture with the big bass for the story credit and web site while I was moving the boat from the weigh area....LOL He thought that was funny and never told Chad (Bass Chams) any different.....LOL 11th place of 179 entries ED CALDERONE JODY JACKSON 5 fish/alive 11.58lbs 29.42 total weight winnings $1000.00 + $1000.00 Big Bass + $260 Keel Sheild Bonus Headed to Falcon and Sugar Lake next Thursday to bake in the sun and try to boat another monster. Will update if we get one.

A friend of mine I met through conservation work is a man named Doug Hanna (A.K.A. "The Bass Professor") and he fishes a few of those California lakes for large bass. He told me when they stock the lakes with rainbow trout he throws a very large (like 10 inches)magnum jerk bait (rainbow trout color) for big fish feeding. Other times he fishes main lake humps with very large jigs and magnum worms. He's probably caught more 10+ fish than anyone I know. He is a very sharp guy and knows fishing and fish care: [Hidden Content]

This year has been one of the best years I can recall in a long while. I have had some many snapper over 20 lb on my boat this year I don't even know where to begin. Not being a real fan of snapper fishing, it's been a nice added value considering you can only have 2 fish in federal waters. I had a girlfriend on the boat in June for her first offshore trip ever and her first fish ever was a 35 lb snapper. Man what a sow of a fish. As for grouper I have had a 40-110 lb warsaw on almost every trip this year and some very nice scamps. The darn things just seem to be jumping in the boat after learning some tricks with my bottom maching, which made all the difference. Ling and tripple tail have been very good too. On a trip in July I pulled up on a weed patch that had drifted over a wreck in about 240 feet of water and a the bottom of the weed patch was covered in triple tail. As we are slinging them in the boat about 8 ling and a few small sharks swam to the boat. Can you say RODEO.... Man we had freaking fish all over the boat. Just as we slowed on the ling a nice wahoo flashed behind the boat and it was on again. In april we fished the east breaks and picked up 4 very nice sails in 2 days and a few very nice dodo's (Mahi). The tuna fishing has either been VERY GOOD or VERY BAD. Like PNG said, the AJ's have been everywhere this year and up until July they were just kicking my tail trying to catch them. Seemed as if when live bait was available they wanted jigs and when jigs were all we had they wanted live bait. July was a different ball game and we finally started hitting them pretty good. On one trip this year we caught a 9-foot plus scalloped hammer head, which missed the state record by just a few pounds and a few inches. I am doing a full-body mount for the guy who caught it. Only two marlin this year, both on same trip, biggest about 450 other maybe 250. Both caught 1-week before POCO. Well, that's my report.

We need quality defense in the backfield playing the speed of Dayton, Crosby, and North Forest. If they move Viverette to QB, get the Milk Shake ready. We will not outscore our apponents as apposed to holding them on defense. We do not have the atheletes or offensive coaching to do that. Our best option is to play hard nose smash mouth defense and do what we can to prevent the long yardage plays. As BHFAN mentioned, we play to not lose, so we already have 2 strikes against us.

Deal.......Shake at Sonic. Keep in mind though, our Sonic may give you a cheeseburger when you order a shake. Their about as worthy of a franchise as Price is a head coahing job.

The best part of this thread is seeing former Barbers Hill player Dan Hook's name on top of the WOS stadium. What would WOS have done without BH? ;D ;D -
The one high school coach you would want to coach your team?

I'll settle for Charlie Brown if we can finally get rid of BH's Price. -

Is this the first ir 2nd playoff game for BH? I assume this is today? -
I don't know what is better, Ross throwing that most excelent game, or seeing you say "GIG EM" ! :o LOL.... Horndawg, I couldn't give you an answer until I saw that the Horns took the series. ;D Seriously, I'm with RIP09...gotta go w/ my boy Hales on this one. Ross was "dealing" from start to finish. An oustanding and dominating performance. To quote Garrido, " There was some brilliance going on out there". Great kid, great family, excellent pitcher. I'm starting to smell some post season recognition for Hales. I left him a voicemail message about two seconds after the last out.....had to "rag on him" a little...come on anybody but my Horns. ;D To sum up my thoughts....one time only because of this special event...here goes.............GIG 'EM ! .....that was painful. ;D

That was an amazing game and he was simply terrific.......
