2.
I wish people would stop the lies ...
Ozen varsity girls beat LCM Tuesday night in Beaumont.  This is not a whine or meant to downplay the efforts of the players at Ozen in anyway, BUT I'd like for someone (with real knowledge) to try to explain the reasoning for the events that took place Tuesday night. This is what I know for sure.  1.   Ozen calls Tuesday afternoon saying they need to "adjust" the times on the games for that night.  2.   They inform LCM that they have two gyms and the freshmen and JV will play at the same time @ 4:30. 3.   When LCM arrives at the gym they are told "Well, about 5:00 instead of 4:30". 4.   The JV starts sometime close to that and the freshman walk to the other gym.  When they arrive at the other gym they are told  that the boys are having practice in that gym and to "just hold tight" until the boys are through with practice and then they can have the gym. 5.   When the boys practice is finally over, everyone is informed that "oh, we didn't get any officials for the freshmen game, we'll just get some coaches to call it".  6.   The coaches try to explain that the AD @ Ozen "won't allow 3 games in the same gym in one night".  (What kind of BS is that?) 7.   Even though when the varsity game started they had 2 officials, the 3rd official shows up about halfway through the 2nd quarter because he wasn't informed about time changes.   Those are just a few of the things that made what should have been a district basketball game...a circus. There were several other things that turned this small circus into something Barnum & Bailey would have been proud of.  This turned out to be one of the most unorganized classless sporting events I've ever attended.

ME TOO!  However, this thread happens to be the gospel truth.  :o

The Willis tournament had better teams in it than the Gulf Coast Classic. Give me a freaking break.
Let's see...5A 14-5 Clear Springs, 5A 17-5 FB Austin, TABC #15 4A Friendswood (14-2), TABC #14 4A Barbers Hill (16-4 and beat WILLIS by 10)....I don't need a freakin' break.
I saw where FB Austin is ranked in the top #25 in the 5A classification as well.  Earlier in this thread there were also several D-1 prospects highlighted who would be smattered throughout the teams in the Gulf Coast Classic event.  Still waiting to hear why the Willy tournament would be better choice than this.  ???
 4.
I just want to know who you would want to invite district teams to your tournament. I also want to know why several teams out of the Beaumont district want to play in the same tournament. Why? Really? Why? There are plenty of tournaments to play in. Go to a different one and get your school out of district play when you play each other twice anyway. You team needs more exposure than just your district. Winning your district or making the playoffs is just the beginning.
The weather hampered us from attending/traveling to the North Carolina Winter Classic in Raliegh this season so we opted for the next best tournament that weekend...the Gulf Coast Classic.  Several ranked teams in the 5A & 4A classification and some quality individual players as well.  This tourney did a good job of spreading out district opponents, but after the first games...you have to play where the bracket takes you. I like the fact that you can catch some of the boys game during this tourney too.
 5.
I would sneak in and vote for Slam if he would run.
;D  That adds up to two votes...you and me...not sure two votes would win it.  ;D You would have to absentee vote anyway with all of the "jet set" travel you do now.
 6.
BH loses to a very solid Clear Springs 53-40.  Lowest point total of year.  Outside shooting died on us in the 'ship.  Really hurt not having starting senior guard, Paris Carter, for the tourney due to sore knee....she'll be back for the district run though!  Good job, Lady Eagles.
HillGuy,   It was great having a chance to visit with you on day 1 of the tournament.  It was killing me that I was unable to make it back after the first day's action.  (That work thing always gets in the way!) Although I didn't get an opportunity to see BH play, it sounds like they are right on track for a big run.  I read where Shannon had some big games in this tourney...Congrats to her!  The Gulf Coast Classic continues to be one of the best run tournaments with some of the nicest people, facilities, and competition within a 100 mile radius of the golden triangle.  I hope we continue to make this tournament a mainstay in our yearly schedule.

 9.
Sanger was Pilot Points toughest game this year, Sangers a raw 3A team. and PP beat us 29-10. I know Pilot Point and no way that 12-2 kirbyville will beat 14-0 Pilot Point. Jarman Johnson will run for 170 or more yards. Close game at the half. 14-10 PP dominates the second half. Final score. Pilot Point 38 KirbyVille 17
WOW!  To rush for more than 170 yards in a girls basketball game has to be a new record!  I know some people are "stat crazy", but keeping rushing yardage in a basketball game is a first!  ;D

 11.
What a JOKE ! I can't believe how a school can allow this to happen.
I wish some of this WAS a joke.  Some things can be overlooked as just bad planning or dumb mistakes, but a few things happened that any half-witted adult should have known should never be attempted.  I was upset and cut my original post short and omitted two of the most unbelievable parts of the night. 8. The varsity squads dressed in the SAME dressing room! (I'm assuming because of the boys coming back from the other gym at some point, but that would have called for some thinking before hand.)  What do you really discuss in the locker room about the game with the opposing team sitting with you? 9. Part of LCM's pre-game ritual is a pre-game prayer.  "Comments" were made to players as they left the dressing room about their prayer and what they "should" have been praying for. Anyway...I know I'm rambling and I know you're not supposed to let a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch, but I'll never be able to view Ozen with any respect again.  Oh, and for those of you who know me personally, I also took a few pics with my cell of Ozen administrators "on duty" that night and will be glad to share them with you.
 12.
You need to be making some phone calls to their athletic director.
I'm just a dad in the stands, but I've voiced my dissapproval to our administrators and I hope they get some answers and explanations from Ozen.

 17.
18-6?  Are you serious - was this a 32 min game?  What happened?
;D Even the "by 12" point spread fit into the (18-6).   ;D  As far as the tournament goes, I wasn't sure about the point spread tie breaker and didn't take the time to look back and do the math, but other than bragging rights, I guess the important thing is to get in as many games as possible.  LCM is playing fairly well right now, but still have some "Jeckel & Hyde" moments.  Defensively they look like they are getting much stronger and when they find some consistency on offense they will rack up more W's. LCM Bear Senior Shelby Apperson and Junior Tiffani Thompson received All-Tounament honors as well as Orangefield's Amiee Scales, HCYA's Sarah Postem, and Sarah McLeod with the Tourney MVP going to HCYA's Grace LcLeod.

But it could be anyone!
I have not seen Evadale play this year.  Do they have anybody that can stay with Starks point guard?
Stay with her, well that would be tough for any body, but I think they can contain her limiting her effectiveness.
;D  You are right in your assessment of the Starks point guard...it would be tough for any defensive player to try to play her "head up".  If you do have success limiting her, you go a long way in slowing down Starks.  Good luck.   PS,  thanks for your reply Rebel.  After I posted, I was afraid Evadale fans might think I was slighting the Evadale players and that is certainly not the case.  I just know how tough Baleigh Bussell is for Starks and have not seen Evadale to know how they will try to match up with her.

 20.

4A or 2A that doesn't matter because EC is 2A and they are beating 2A,3A and 4A teams, you have to play together and that is what hurt Deweyville against LCM, LCM'S point guard passed the ball to the open girl, Deweyville point guard won't do that has to learn to play team ball.
This is the second or third post you have made saying this about Skylar, the 3-games I have seen Deweyville play she has distributed the ball as a point guard should, it may not always be to the player you want it to be, however, you are not on the court and don't see what she does.  It's easy to sit in the stands and criticizes her play.  How about supporting the team and let Coach Hammerly coach the girls, obviously she sees something in her point guard to keep starting her every game, and remember she is coming back after missing all of last year.  Give the girls a break and encourage them instead of trying to seperate them, remember the girls read this forum.
I am an LCM supporter and am totally unbiased to anything in Deweyville, and I have to say that I was pretty impressed with the Pirate point guard in this game.  Any slam against this player is unfounded.  If anything, I thought she played very well against LCM.  The Bears did a great job of taking away the Moss girl and fouls kept her on the bench much of the game.  With her out, Skyler was pretty much left to handle the LCM pressure on her own at times.  LCM is a fairly good team and did a good job of cutting the passing lanes off when the Deweyville point guard  tried to penetrate. To sum this up, Coach Hammerly has Deweyville playing very aggressive and they will win many games this season and do well in their district.  As an outsider, I'll be willing to bet that Skylar plays a big part in that success.  Skylar...if you read this forum, I hope you don't let people talk you out of playing your game.  Keep playing hard and good luck to Deweyville the remainder of the season.
