LCM vs. Vidor for homecoming
Slam14 replied to vidor96pirates's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Vidor has a good team and is going to the playoffs. Losing is not always a bad thing. Sometime it refocuses your team and helps you in the long run. Vidor adds a few passing wrinkles and I see a playoff team that can make some noise.
Vidor has a great team, but going to the playoffs is still up in the air for a lot of teams in 20-4A. Losing one game "may" help Vidor refocus, but back to back losses would open the floodgates of doubt. -

Hunter Gonzales - LCM quarterback 16 of 26 passing for 238 yards - 2 TD's 22 carries for 90 yard - 4 TD's Down 35-7 in the 3rd quarter, Gonzales led the Bears to 42 second half points for their first district win since 2006. If you don't see Hunter on Channel 6 this week...they might as well quit having this. -
*LC-M vs. Livingston/LCM wins 49-41
Slam14 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Congratulations to the Bears! This is one of those games that you just couldn't believe or imagine unless you were there. Livingston capitalized on LCM miscues in the first half to build a huge lead and then the second half was just the opposite with LCM taking advantage of Livingstons mistakes. After being out of sync for much of the first half, Hunter Gonzales was lights out in the second half with great runs and very few incomplete passes in the second. Maybe one of the most crucial plays of the night was a 4th and 2 in the 4th quarter. LCM ran an option left in which Livingston seemed to have defended it perfectly, but somehow Gonzales faked and fought his way to a first down and then finished the drive with a strike to Sonnier in the right corner of the end zone. This was a great win for the players, coaches, and community of LCM. Congrats again! Just a side note...I'm not sure what I expected or why this stood out tonight, but I was really impressed with Livingstons sportsmanship. There were many times when hard hits were followed by a pat on the helmet or a hand up. A hard fought game with very few penalties. Oh, and no arrests were made for students storming the field! ;D : -
"The 10 Silsbee fans" ? Couldn't have been much of a pot if there were only "10 Silsbee fans" who sat through that monsoon. You are enjoying spending half of "the Silsbee kids" money and yes it's not uncommon for that money to be donated back to such a worthy cause. The acoustics in Silsbee's stadium must be great, because it sounded like a lot more than 10 fans cheering in the background of the waning moments of the KOGT broadcast.

Its "super secret" need-to-know and will be released on the morning of the first game ;D Just did a 30 sec search and found that LCM has not posted it to their website yet Well heck as many times as Slam buy's the coaches dinners, he should be in the know !! ;D Oh, CC that is soooo wrong...FUNNY...but wrong ;D Just wait till he comes cruising by here, LOL. Oh, I see how it is now! I just crusied by the site after buying lunch for...I mean, working hard all morning, only to find a couple of knives in my back! ;D ;D I do have the secret schedule and will post it as soon as I wipe away the tears of these betrayals. -
I don't know the inside details of PNG girls basketball, but I do know that it's not fair to dump all of the blame on the coach. hjhawks and hillguy already made excellent points to shoot down the theory of "the middle school had more plays" than the high school coach, so the only thing I'll add is that high school girls should be able to "turn over" an offense and get to the bucket without trying to see how many plays they can learn or how many different offensive sets they can accomplish. Your analogy using the new football team/coach is interesting. Isn't he the new athletic director as well? Isn't the girls coach considered to be a part of his staff? If the blame is truly where you think it is then it should show itself. Whatever the issues...I hope they get resolved quickly so no girl at PNG is deterred from playing if they truly love the game.
-
I think she should really focus all her efforts on track this year. ;D
-
;D ;D ;D Maybe one could decipher the other and translate their posts to the masses.
-
Oh, yeah...maybe you're right. But Hillguy's philosophy still holds true no matter what school you insert into the equation.
-
Your headline may be funny but your little "show" sure isn't. SPCA sure wouldn't like it, either..... I like the little show. People should relax more. It's a joke and a funny one at that. Agreed! It's a joke...lighten up a little. If the "little show" was thought to be bad, I guess I shouldn't post my headline that reads: "Bears treat Dogs so bad refs check locker room for Micheal Vick"

This looks fairly accurate to me. I'd flip Livingston and Ozen's position though. Livingston had some great athletes last year, but I don't know who graduated from that squad. The jury is still out on Livingston in my opinion as whether they are in the class of Central. Not that they don't have the potential, I've just never seen the killer instinct that Central possesses. Livingston lost handily to LCM in Little Cypress and were played close at their place by LCM. Nederland took them to overtime in Nederland too before the Lions pulled it out at the buzzer. Of course, the LONG road trips for every away game has to weigh heavily on the Lions too. The 4th spot in this district will again be wide open. Question to the masses: Nederland has 2 junior high schools. Those girls basketball programs consistently dominate the junior high circuit...consistently and totally. Why do so many of these girls not make it through their high school system? I watched a very talented 8th grader at Nederland Central Jr high last year...it will be interesting to watch her progress in high school.

Looks like a fairly accurate preseason prediction of finish. I'm not real sure I like it though. ;D

Why didn't he ensure it last week? ???

*LC-M vs. Central/Central wins 28-7/Comments
Slam14 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Congrats to Central. I thought going into this season that Central would be the team to beat in district 20-4A and tonight did nothing but solidify those thoughts. LCM looked a little more sluggish than they've looked in the last few weeks, but the speed and aggressiveness of the Central defense probably had a lot to do with that. I knew Central was tough against the run, but I was way more impressed with their corners and safeties. They played tight to take away the wide receiver screens, but still had the recovery speed to turn and defend the deep patterns as well. As a whole, I think LCM played the run a lot better tonight aside from three big runs by Central backs. Soulja...I think you should bump up your defensive evaluation from a B+ to an A-. ;D The Bears continue to improve and play hard and there are still some W's out there for LCM this season. Go Bears! -
I disagree with you on this matter. I dont think that the issue is that he or anyone else on here is jealous of your program. AAW is a very opiniated person that not only has no problem speaking his mind but I think enjoys giving you his opinion about a matter. AAW enjoying debating football and is looking for anyone that is willing to spare with him. I think that your arrogance is calling him out more so than he is hating on your program. I have no beef with WOS football and want to support it very much, but its comments like this "We aren't buying it. He's just a joke. Mustang fans are used to it. We've been hated on for years. And by hated, I mean envied." that makes it hard to stomach WOS. I understand completely how he feels and I can promise you its not jealousy. If you would spend less time at the helm of your program boasting about its greatness and calling out anyone who is not bowing to your greatness jealous then you probably wouldnt have people like AAW constantly looking to say something bad about your program. : The "greatness" of WO-S' football program is not seen by most, especially if you don't have boys that have gone through the program. It's really not JUST about football. I know that some of you may not understand it, but until you live in this district and these men/coaches have the impact that they do on most of these young men/athletes...you won't. I know that there are some who boasts about WO-S' greatness, but I think that there are far more who simply don't give WO-S the credit they may deserve. Our football program does still own the title Winningest Football Program in the State of Texas-all classifications and we do go to the playoffs most years. We really don't need to BOAST about anything because our records speak for themselves, but don't misunderstand "boasting" and all the blab that we get accused of for just pride and coming to the defense of our program when need be. But, we could post on here all day...and will still get blasted...that is something that we're used to. Thanks for thinking about us!! Nice comments stang4life, I highlighted your words of "It's really not JUST about football". That statement is very true and I'm not talking about just at WOS...that statement should hold true anywhere. In the past, the coaches at WOS have used football to teach life lessons and get kids on track with their lives. It sounds to me like the new volleyball coach has turned around a program that hasn't won in two years into a very competitive above average 12-7 at this point in the season. Does she not deserve the same respect and opportunity to teach life lessons as well? Another poster danced around the idea that "Let's be real honest, Girl's athletics don't matter as much as boys sports." Please. This is a story more about values than about volleyball. How WOS handles this in the next week will tell the true story. Slam, you are assuming that she isn't getting the same opportunity to teach these life lessons. We don't know if she agrees or disagrees with this. What you quoted was somewhat out of context as I remember it. I'm not interested enough to go back and find the quote so I may be wrong. If I am wrong I fully expect you and 20 other people to let me know. ;D The other poster stated that it was obvious that girls athletics didn't matter as much and used attendance by fans at the games as an example of people showing that they weren't as important. I don't think (and I hope I'm right) that most people feel like that. I know I don't and I know you don't. td, I'm not assuming that she's not getting the same opportunities to teach life lessons, I'm saying that this IS ONE opportunity that seems to be taken from her. We can only assume her position by her "no comment". You are right in the fact that I may have taken that posters quote "somewhat" out of context. ;D I apologize to the poster, but I didn't think her explanation quantified the statement. I guess in a nutshell my point is that only the tiniest fraction of high school athletes will ever be able to use sports as an income or living. (Some go on to bigger and better things like their own insurance business. ) With that in mind, for the overwhelming majority of high school athletes, the most important part of their playing days are the life lessons and camaraderie with teammates and coaches. I'm sure you have a million stories about WOS baseball. What if your most memorable moment on the diamond had not taken place because the game had been forfeited? This is a story about poor planning and not taking care of business ahead of time.

Vidor/Central after the game........
Slam14 replied to piratefan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Extremely classy, respectful, and a show of the first class character of these young men. Although many would hope that their school and kids would do this same type thing, this isn't something you can force...maybe that's the beauty of it in the first place. Maybe "Dreams" do come true.
