(TheBigSwitch must have just found out that Dan Ray Hooks applied....sssshhhhhh! keep it quiet!) Makes sense about Hooks. I always heard he's got a great working relationship with Little Cypress Junior High players and their families. ;D Funny and Sad at the same time. I guess the "ting" of truth in it's what makes it sad.

Do you have a hot wife or girlfriend? ;D ;D You just had to go there. (I really expected the first response to be "Do you have a Masters? )

If YOU were interviewing applicants for the vacant Head Coaching postion at either PNG or LCM, what would be the first or most important question you asked?
-
: PLEASE! : The Detroit Lions have a lot of "experienced" players returning next year too, but I doubt if anyone's expectations are going to be a Super Bowl appearance. I hope the young men that worked hard this past season for a starting position are continuing to work in the off season to protect those spots...but the new coach's first order of business is to try to get all of the athletes that are just roaming the hall to be interested in football enough to come out and challenge for those postions. The first few weeks of the '09 "training camp" at LCM will not be measured by how many starters return, but by how many kids WANT to come out for football.

Orange County will be interesting next season. LCM has hopes and dreams of returning to being competitive. A new HC/AD will hopefully shake things up and get that program back on line. The '08 team was loaded with sophs and even a few freshman mixed in so even though they finished 0-10 they still gained valuable experience. Probably still won't be the "best" Orange County team, but hopefully will make strides to get there. Vidor has looked good and maybe '09 will be the year they break through and actually have a legitimate shot at a 20-4A crown. A great senior class of athletes and some heartfelt coaching. BC and OF both will return some key skill players and could make some noise. wos's will...oops I almost forgot. ;D

Who Wants An Athletic Scholarship?
Slam14 replied to Sobriquet's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
You can't really lump all people together in this or in anything else for that matter...everybody is different and handles themselves differently. Your statement above says to "Now ask where these things were taught?" --- Competitiveness, determination, leadership skills (and I'll add selfworth) are virtues that should be instilled and not taught at an age way before high school football. Athletics does not "teach" any of these things...it reveals your character as to if you have these qualities within you or not. These qualities are honed through your experiences with teamates, coaches and athletics. Step four, ask yourself whether the person you're thinking about already had some of these qualities instilled in their life before high school athletics brought them to the forefront? -
Fair enough. In an earlier post "mat" refers to the players at LCM taking criticism for having a tough season. I stated that some individuals had giving these young men a lot of verbal abuse. That was a general statement and certainly not directed at you or anyone specific. Sorry if you read that into it. The senior class of '08 has some of the best athletes in school history that haven't set foot on the football field in a long time. The new coach has to find a way to make kids feel "left out" if they aren't playing football.

BigSwitch, No need to get defensive...I was just stating my own opinion and I still believe the scoreboard is a good thing. I wasn't throwing darts. I think you are unclear about the payment for the scoreboard though. The scoreboard was paid for by community/area businesses and personal donations. The donations were solicited for the sole purpose of purchasing the new scoreboard. Even the company that erected and wired the board donated their services. I can't remember all of the businesses that made major contributions, but they all have advertisements attached to the scoreboard. This was not taxpayers money and none of this money could have been used for anything else but the board. You are certainly right about the Jr Highs needs for EVERYTHING! (Surely our daughters must know each other)

Nice post...you got an "Amen" from me. I know that everyone gets caught up in the competitiveness of High School football and every school is measured by wins and loses and that's the way it should be. But even though the young Bears of "08 took a lot of tough shots on the field and verbal abuse from a lot of individuals...I have high hopes for this tough minded group of young men that this rough year will help drive their success in the next few years. There's a wind of change in the air at LCM.

The scoreboard and all of the things that it brings with it are good in my opinion. It's an fantastic addition to the stadium and school. To me, the best part of the board is the player profile that enables an individual video clip to be shown of a player when they make an outstanding play. It's a big deal for the kids and the scoreboard is just an avenue to add to the Friday night experience. Using your train of thought then I guess just because a team doesn't have a successful season they are not worthy enough to have a scoreboard, band, cheerleaders, matching uniforms, etc...?
-
The new scoreboard should read "Forget Slogans and Return To Fundamentally Sound Football!" All that "other stuff" will take care of itself.

Probably not as big of a wreck as it seems sometimes.

"Athletic Director/Head Football Coach" is how it's listed.
-
Won't happen. There is probably NO COACH at the 4A level worth anything that would accept a Head Coaching job without also being responsible for the AD duties. Can anyone name a school district where the Head football coach is not the AD? (exception being small schools that don't have football) There may be some out there, but I can't think of any. ???

Remember, it's all about 'when it counts'. Playoffs is what it's all about. We were Phenominal in the eyes of every team we took down in the playoffs... Soulja, I would have been SO disappointed if you hadn't responded to this. ;D Central continued to improve as the season progressed. With the confidence they found this year there is absolutely no limits in what this team could accomplish in the upcoming years.

The Bears, but I guess that speaks for itself if you didn't even remember they were in the district. :

Grandslam in Orange What is Whitecaps? I thought you were with Crush???? Galveston College
-
: ??? ??? Your signature line reads "It doesn't matter how hard you get hit..." It really does and I think you took a hard shot to the head. ;D I hope you're right, but there are way too many variables and unknowns to put the Bears anywhere else but the bottom. Maybe we could schedule the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys for the '09 preseason to get started with 2 W's! ;D

Your thoughts have been echoed many times through all of the threads about LCM football and I agree with you. The foundation for ALL winning sports programs are exactly the same. The difference is finding a coach that knows these virtues and does not waver from them. It's a whole lot easier to keep the reigns tight than to drop them and try to regain control. Some people have questioned the kids drive and "want to" at LCM. The same kids who respond to the disciple, respect, and leadership in the baseball and basketball programs would do the same on the football field if that leadership was provided. Good Post Slam..... Now get busy on those softball fields !! ;) ;D ;D ;D I have one of the greatest maintenance men in the area hard at work at the fields today. I'm sure with today's sunshine he has fixed EVERYTHING that needs to be done! ;D (We'll see)

Need tickets? Send $20 per ticket to "Slam14" c/o KFDM COOP SETXsports ;D ;D It should be a good game with both teams looking to have strong teams next year.

The job is posted and LCM is accepting applications until January 19th. There will be no "real" news until a few weeks after that date. Feel free to continue making up your own news and speculations until that time. ;D I never knew T.T. was a spokesman for the school. Not a spokesman...just a concerned community member. I'm just relaying information straight off of the school website (mixed in with a little freelanced information.) : Now you know.
