Congrats to CRUSH - (Cole) for picking up some big wins in back-to-back marathon ITB games. Good job girls.

I'll be there cheering and rooting for the Bears, but breaking into the "W" column is not likely against Lumberton this year. The Bears have shown some improvement in some areas, but they are still not strong enough defensively to hold off Lumberton's power running game. Call it whatever you want...but Lumberton will not mount a drive anywhere close to 8-minutes long. At this point, moving the ball offensively is a building block for the Bears.

No the team that I support is 6-0 I once heard a ref say "If I called holding every time I saw it, that team wouldn't be 6-0!" ;D

really??? I guess we better call the LCM volleyball team who is sitting alone at the top of the district in 1st place and let them know. oh yeah, when we are done we better call Griff and warn him too. jesusfreak, No need to warn Griff...he already knows. Remember...it's all his fault anyway. : ;D

You can still be the "right" guy and not be from this area. IMO being from the area is a plus...not a necessity. We need a strong football coach, but he's still the AD and needs to be supportive of all sports. (Male & Female) On a side note of what is "supposed to happen" or "what you'd like to see" in a program. I went to the Little Cypress Jr High VS Vidor Jr High game in Vidor last night. The one constant through out the night was the presents of the Vidor High school head coach Jeff Mathews. Coach Mathews roamed the Jr high sideline slapping kids on the helmet and congratulating them like it was the Super Bowl. He didn't take over the coaching, but listened to what the JR high coaches were calling with nods of approval. It's no wonder that Vidor's program has improved.

I know, like and respect both of the guys you mentioned, but don't assume that everybody (or anybody) is going to want to jump into the LCM situation. I think the community and board should do just the opposite...take your time and find the "right" guy for the job not just "another" guy. Coach Crouch was at LCM before going to WOS and Coach Dyer is an LCM alumni. A young, enthusiastic coach like Ed Dyer might be the ticket. In my opinion the key for any kind of a turn around will have to involve a magnetic, up-and-coming coach to be excited enough to get players involved again. I'm just saying that I'm not sure that Mack Brown could be lured away from UT for the LCM job. ;D (If it becomes available. :)

Ouch...hit a nerve. "The Ref" is right in some respects, but what makes the comments yelled from the stands even funnier in some situations is that usually the guy yelling the loudest (and the most obnoxious) has no clue what he's talking about. That is so true and they always sit right behind me in my ear. This hasn't been a problem for me this year at home games...the closest person behind my reserve seat is about 7 rows back! :
-
Most refs are pretty good, but the 99.9% effeciency rating MIGHT be a little high. ;D

It is not a "fear of higher taxes" it is a CERTAINTY of higher taxes. But again...you usually get what you pay for. We either have to bite the bullet and provide for the kids of our community or quit complaining about what we don't have or can't provide upkeep for. Oh, and I've heard the same December rumor thing for last week or so too.
-
Have you heard any about me today, Coop? I haven't heard any about you either td, but we could start some. ;D

I AM old and I wasn't going here until I saw this post. I was only 12 years old at the time (1972), but my grandfather took me to see Lincoln VS PNG...or "Little Joe" VS Jeff "the jet". Even though it was a long time ago, two of the greatest area running backs of all time squared off in a great battle to see would could out last the other. Huge numbers for both backs.

If your numbers are correct, I don't know for sure why so many teachers are leaving. Some have claimed that it's the teachers pay rate at LCM being substantially lower than elsewhere. Whatever the reason they choose to leave it doesn't seem to be effecting the "solidified" academic standard at LCM. The teachers who are there (and the ones that left) must have been doing something right. Last week the KOGT site reported that at LCM's October board meeting 219 students were recognized who had made a perfect score on the state TAKS test. Thirty of the 219 made perfect scores on multiple parts. LCM also received a "Superior Achievement" rating from the TEA. In earlier posts I've already spoken about the bond issue and the poor shape of the buildings that these kids attend class in. The JR high is clearly a huge problem and a "time warp" of a building. One reason that some voted "no" on the bond for the high school is that the Jr high needs to be addressed first and they knew that if the bond passed for the high school they would have to be right back for another one again for the Jr high shortly. The bottom line is that usually you get what you pay for. If new buildings are going to be built for LCM it will have to come out of the taxpayers pockets. That's not a real popular statement, but it's reality.

Apologies to 77 if I offended. I guess that's why I stay away from the casinos.

Some in the LCM community have not always agreed with a few of the decisions made by the board and administration, but you can say that about almost any district anywhere. Football is king in Texas...that's plain, simple, and easy to understand. Football and all other sports are extracurricular activities and enhance a kids high school years. The school board's and administration's top priority and responsibility is to solidify the academic standings of the school district for the kids of that district. They are up to standards on that. The football program is definitely in trouble at LCM and the board certainly plays a part in correcting that, but it will take even the "right guy" a while to turn it around. Why would a "quality coach" be drawn to LCM? I agree that the board and all of the administration have done a great job solidifying the academic standing at LCM. They should be commended for that. I'm not sure you can draw a quality coach at this time. I may be wrong but I think you are going to have to get a young energetic maybe first time head coach to take the job. Maybe an alumni. BINGO! Now is when the board comes into play and it's their responsiblity to find the best possible person for the district.

Man I wish I hadn't said I was done on this subject. > ;D ;D ;D 20 to 1 odds that "77" has no children. How bout it 77?

The choice isn't mine. It would seem that they could at least tell the parents where the money goes! TD, they may not want you to know where it goes. If it goes to a worthwhile cause like Project Safe Graduation then you may pay the fine, think at least the money is being used well, and keep using the phone during school hours without giving it much thought.

TD, What we need is the influx of a few good families into LC to help get that done. ;D The bond is another touchy subject. I don't know how we ventured so far away from the original thread here, but if you think LCM football looks bad you ought to go take a tour of the Jr. high.

Stir, I will address points 1 and 2. I do not normally respond to other schools issues but I have had a little experience with this one. Look at you base pay scale for teachers. There are 1A and 2A schools in the area that pay several thousand more dollars in salary. I was offered a job at LCM and turned them down. It came down to dollars. I was at a 1A and would make less at LCM. My dad always told me that you do not teach and coach for the money, but you have to take care of your family. IF you check the 4A districts in the setx area, you will find a big discrepency $7000 to 8000 with the schools that have their hiring schedules posted. Just an observation. Your right sherm they are constantly losing good teachers due to salary. Just checked the websites of a few of the 20-4A schools. All schools pay on a scale of degree of education & years of service. Of the job posting from the 3 websites in 20-4A I checked, they were fairly comparable. I didn't see anything near a $7000-$8000 discrepancy unless you are holding a Masters or Doctorate degree with 33 years of experience. DISCLAIMER: It might be out there...but I didn't see it. Look at Nederland,PNG,PAISD,BISD,Barbers Hill, Dayton...... Nederland and PNG are two of the three websites I checked. Again...it might be there, but I didn't see it on those sites.

Nice raises...that would certainly influence anyone's decision to go. With only one major industry within the boundaries of the LCM school district, how do you suppose we pay our teachers more $$$$ and fund the new buildings needed in the district? (there is only one answer, but no one wants to say it out loud)

To all my fellow Pirates fans

"The Reservation" is a tough place to play for opposing teams, but that shouldn't have much of a bearing on the Pirates Friday night. (PNG @ Vidor) ;D -
I don't remember bringing it up, but it you are referring to the IP that Papa and I called in stereo, that was for the "Ragsdale Replant". ;D

I am a long time LCM supporter with 3 children in the LCM school district. Everyone in Bear Country is clearly disappointed with the competitiveness of the football team and some of the reasoning has been well chronicled on this site. Some make great points and some just vent. I believe a big portion of the problems will take of themselves within this school year, BUT this isn't going to be an overnight fix though. I know a lot of the kids and players read this site as well as adults. I too want to congratulate and applaud those young men that continue put forth the effort and fight their way through a tough situation. As I've sat in the stands at every LCM game, at some point my attention is drawn to the sidelines as well as the field to check attitudes, body language, demeanor, and the character of players (and coaches). It's easy to pick out the young men who I think will be successful in life. They are the ones who are still putting forth effort, still working hard through adversity, and still playing because they want to and don't let other peoples thoughts and words back them down. I hope these kids continue to work hard and improve. Go Bears!!
