1. Yes, Ive seen Nederland play several times this season and know what they have to offer. They were not consistent in their play throughout district. They have some fine athletes, but no team will make the playoffs in this district without consistency. I will stand by my original post and say they could possibly make the playoffs next season, but I don't see them as a frontrunner.
2. The whole district is getting more competitive. Ozen and Central were head and shoulders above everybody else this season, but the rest of the district was relatively close. The playoffs next season may depend on who works the hardest this off season. Even though Nederland looked good at times this season, there are several other "upstarts" in the district that will make it tough on the dogs to next year.
3. Excuse me.........You talk about LCM's coach taunting Central's coach. I think Central's coach was too busy stomping around on the floor and pounding on the score table to be taunted. Anyway, if he can't take getting beat without throwing a hissy fit.....he doesn't need to be coaching! Sorry BMTsoulja...I guess you spoke too soon, seems the crazy fan post showed up anyway. This was an awsome game to witness. Every aspect of the game was exactly like high school sports should be. A tight game throughout. LCM makes a mad dash out of the gate, but Central shows poise and discipline in fighting back and doesn't seem to let the rowdy crowd effect them too much. Big plays by LCM seniors with their playoff backs against the wall against one of the better teams within a 100 mile radius. This game should certainly give the Bears the confidence to finish business. One side note -----I left the gym feeling like I had seen some things that get lost so many times in sports these days. Both teams played wide open and hard and you could sense the respect that each team had for each other. Several times throughout this game a player would go down HARD and then get helped to his feet by the hand of his opponent. Classy young athletes from both schools. I thought both coaches did great jobs of working the clock and their benches. Central's coach was "intense", but nothing out of line. His "hissy fit" was not about winning or losing...this was a good opportunity for Central to work on closing tight games as they head into the playoffs and failed to execute in the closing seconds. I suspect THAT was his frustration.
4. ;D You're right. She's the only coach I've ever seen that calls for a timeout from the free throw line! ;D
5. Congrats not only for the win in the season finally against Vidor, but for much improved play down the stretch in the second half of district. LCM graduates 1 senior from this years team and Coach Ellerbee should have a lot of bodies and some strong players to piece together next season. The LCM girls program is growing and hopefully will blossom next season. Hats off to the Vidor Pirates. I gained some respect for the Vidor program in how hard they played Friday night. Even though they have not had many wins for the season, they played hard and the coach continued to teach, coach, and encourage until the final buzzer.
6. LCM defeated Nederland 56-51 on the dogs home court. Katie Harrell lead the Lady Bears with a 16 point, 10 rebound performance. Congrats to all of the Lady Bears!
7. If it's the same problems...then revert back to the other thread and insert your school's name where ever you see "Lumberton", and we'll all save a lot of time. :
8. OK...let's say it all together now... LOCK THIS THREAD! LOCK THIS THREAD! LOCK THIS THREAD! ;D ;D
9. Don't know the link, but saw the clip. It wasn't really a story on the Bcats, but KK was the Channel 12 player of the week. There wasn't much file footage, but Channel 12 obviously showed up at the school with a film crew and got her out of class to take the video. The gym was totally empty, she had her hair down and combed, smiling the whole time while they showed her shoot shot after shot. Not exactly her game face. Congrats to the player of the week.
10. Hey Coop, I vote to lock this thread before somebody gets hurt! There are going to be some injured shoulders from people continuing to whip this dead horse! ;D
11. Well when ....... Ok, then here is your answer. They just aren't good enough to beat Central or Ozen or Orangefield or any other team they lost to. If they had the 2 All Staters then they probably would have beat some of those teams, they are lacking talent and you can't coach talent, so maybe he isn't the one to blame. Didn't both those girls play AAU year round? Humm dedication could be another thing lacking. . ;D Bobcat, why on earth would you say something like the above? Lacking dedication? Yes, most of this years girls did in fact play AAU in the Prime Time circuit. And they actually played pretty well. Just not "good enough" to beat Ozen or Central or Orangefield? I agree that the team has no where near the "talent" as the two Beaumont schools. But as far as the OF game went, were you there? Did you see the same game as me? If ever a game was blown by the coach, that was a prime example. Lumberton only brought 6 healthy players to the game, and one injured. Despite this, the Lady Raiders led at the half 27-10. In the 3rd quarter, starting post Hayley Miller went down with a dislocated kneecap, and one player got in foul trouble, causing the injured player to play.(bad ankle) Yet the coach made the decision to remain in a man to man instead of going to a zone with a 17 point lead, and tired players. The OF coach was subbing 5 at a time the whole game, and those Lady Bobcats always do a great job of running the heck out of the flex. Lumberton ended up losing the game by 20. Almost every point was a lay up off the flex. Never did OF show that they could bust a zone by hitting anything outside. Now you tell me. Is that type of coaching move the players fault? The point some here are making is that there have been games lost, that should have been won. The people that are watching the games,(not just parents) are shaking our heads and wondering what the heck is going on? This is a team that has good, but not great outside shooting. But seldom does their game plan involve getting the ball to the posts. Also, His players think that their coach gave up on them before the season started. Coach Wilson has been a very good coach, winning coach of the year twice in 22-4A. He is our guy and we love him. But he has not done the best job this year. He has his job cut out for him to win back the trust and confidence of his players. Someone above stated that the players need to stop whinning, and the parents need to stay out of it. I would say that this forum is the correct place to discuss this sort of thing! Coach Wilson is a big boy, and I believe he can take the heat. And finally, Bobcat, you owe the Lumberton players an apology for your remarks. When I read the post I took it as sarcasm and poking fun at this whole thread...there was no malicious intent in the statement. Lighten up a little. Every program has some of the worries and problems that have been talked about by the Lumberton faithful throughout this thread. When you win, they don't seem like such a big deal, but when you start to rack up some loses they loom larger. Somebody on this board used to have a great signature line; it read..."How you win reveals some of your character...how you act in defeat reveals it all." (at least it was close to that)
12. A good, hard fought game by the Bears, but there's just too much talent at Ozen this year. I know Central will have a different opinion, but Ozen has some of the best female athletes I've seen in quite some time. The Ozen - Central game in the second round of district should be another great one.
13. [ Bobcat05, You "non-real coach"!! I don't know who you are, but you've made more sense than most on this thread. Good luck in your studies and pursuit of becoming a "real" coach. Who know's...maybe you'll get the Lumberton job!!!! ;D ;D : That is, if you graduate before the sky finishes falling.
14. I don't care who you are THAT'S FUNNY! Sad and true...but funny. Accurate post Bobcat05!
15. Some excellent points here kbmkn. I hope the area chapter of officials is tuned into some of this feedback. We might have to start a new thread, but I would like to nominate this past Friday nights LCM-PNG game as this years most poorly officiated game. (to date)
16. The above was the original post that started this thread. I could care less about what happened in years past. This years team has got to be tired of hearing about the two all staters of years past. I would like to comment on the 2007-2008 Lady Raiders team. I think that LRFAN put it out there pretty honestly. I have seen almost every game this season, and there have been several games that were lost that should have been won. It has been painful to watch sometimes. And not to pile on the coach, but I think he would be the first to admit that he has not done a great job this year. But the world is not ending, and the season is not over yet. I have faith in those kids. They are a tough bunch, and I believe that they will get at least the 3rd playoff spot. They are playing much better now than earlier in the season. And the Lady Raiders will have 3 starters back next year, including two solid post players, and a dang good shooting guard. Back to the original post- One big reason the girls basketball program is suffering is because some of the best girls basketball players to come thru the Little Dribblers, Jr High, and JV programs quit basketball and instead are playing soccer. The girls are not allowed to do both, so many choose soccer. I am sure that happens at all schools, but has not been happening at Lumberton that much til the last few years. There is strength in numbers, and the girls basketball numbers are falling the past few years. Good luck Lady Raiders, your fans and parents believe in you. You have a chance to finish strong, you just gotta find the faith in yourselves. The original post asked an opened ended question of "Any comments people?" If you ask the question, don't be upset with replies. I find it hard to believe the Lumberton faithful have adopted a "sky is falling" mentality. The football board was full of the same thing from WOS "fans" wanting to behead the offensive coordinator after their playoff loss even though WOS hasn't lost a district game in years and have been deep into the playoff for many years too. Fire the coach, it must be his fault. The 07-08 Lumberton girls basketball team is a very talented group of young ladies and is contending for another playoff spot this season, but talent wise they are falling out right where they should be. Central and Ozen are just that much more talented this season. Even schools that haven't had success in the recent past are still working hard to get back to the top and face some of the same issues that you've stated about LHS. Even though all may not be right in Lumberton, the sky is not falling.
17. Crushcoach is a pretty bright guy and I know he can speak for himself, but if you ask me, I think he's found the one that's hitting the panic button. I'm not an L-town (I can't believe I used that) citizen or Raider supporter, but I have seen them play several time a year for the past few years. In the games that I saw, Chelsey and Courtney didn't pad stats...in fact, I thought they played just the opposite. In the games I saw I got the feeling that Chelsey could have scored whatever she wanted to in the games, but instead ran the offense, distributed the ball, and got the rest of the team involved in the game. I think she was the truest court leader I've seen in a long time. The group at Lumberton this year is still good and are a playoff contender, but it's hard to make up for the players lost to graduation last year. Coach Wilson seems to be a very good coach and handles himself well. I know it's easy to question coaching decisions...but I just don't understand it though when you have a program that's as good as Lumberton's. Sometimes you just have to admit that others have worked hard and knocked the king (or queens) off the hill. Right now Central and Ozen are hands down better than everyone else in the district.
18.
I know Central is doing very well this year and even Ozen.  Who is still in it for 3rd?
Central and Ozen are miles ahead of the rest of the district this year.  Lumberton is probably still in the best position for the 3rd playoff spot. Lumberton lost two all-state performer.  These two were great high school players and I'm sure they will get their shot at playing time at the next level in due time.  They were great players, but just as important, they were leaders of their team.  When I saw Lumberton play this year (even though they won handily), they were missing the swagger of the past few years.  They didn't seem to have anyone that was noticably a leader on the floor.  BUT, that was just one game that I saw. I wouldn't worry too much about Lumberton...I've seen their junior high play and they are extremely talented.
19.
If you believe the reasoning is weak the so be it. That's just the reality of the situation. Some of those HJ girls have bad attitudes. The couple of Silsbee girls were only defending themselves. But yeah it is a "dead issue" right.
The reasoning IS weak and the reality of the situation is that having opposing teams in the same locker room at any given time is a circumstance that's poorly thought out by the school officials. I believe the trash talk and disrespect among opposing players is directly related to the escalated rough play that officials are continuing to let go on.  If official would call the game according to the rules of the game we could get back to seeing some athletic skills instead of a free-for-all with a ball.
20. This seems to be getting more widespread and is a real problem. The place to start is for EVERYONE to clean up their own program.  Sometimes people can't see the forest because of the trees...it's not ALWAYS "the other team". I agree that there is no reason for opposing teams to be in the same locker room at any given time.  If the home team has lockers in that room then they need to wait until the visitors have left to enter.  The volleyball locker reasoning is weak.
21.

I meant I hope she doesn't get into foul trouble like our point guard.
Honestly, you got me man. I thought you made that remark because the game is played in Orangefield. I apologize.
A little defensive? Should be a good game...too close to call.
22. Better to drop it...it's been edited/amended by the setxsports staff.
23. vpfan1990, Your crude (and I'm sure soon to be deleted) post is a non-issue to this game. LCM wins in spite of your thoughts.
