1.
Tidwell was asked to resign from the AD position!!!
Not the first time I've heard this "rumor."
 2. Let's keep this ridiculous idea alive...somebody start a Lamar to the WAC website. Why is it so important for LU's success that the football team be an FBS program? Did having a FCS football program weaken the appeal of Appalachian State, Villanova, Montana State, Lehigh, Northern Iowa, Southeast Missouri State, etc. to prospective students and community supporters? We just were able to bring football back to campus. Why is there a need to make a move before success is achieved at the current level? Was bringing football back not a success in itself? Will the current enthusiasm for the program still exist if the program encounters a losing trend? If the school is looking to improve its marketability, why not find a niche that separates itself from other Texas institutions. Make LU a destination because athletics is a powerhouse in its division, with success for all its programs. Have a campus that motivates its students to stay on or around it. Provide a surrounding neighborhood that is safe for students, has a plethora of residential and recreation options for its students and is appealing for commercial business to invest in. I am not against a future move, but I read posts which seem to focus on the idea that being a FBS school is integral to the success of the University. It's not. Let's learn to walk before we run. Let's create a University and Athletic Department that is successful at one level before moving to the next. Let's be grateful we have football back and cherish the opportunity to build a program that will not ever be on the chopping block again.
1kAtKiller, you made a great post earlier in this thread. My dream as a teenager was to be a coach. But, life had me join the military for several years. Then after enrolling at Lamar as a kinesiology major, I visited with my brother often as he was already in the coaching profession although he is younger. I seen how hard he worked. How many hours a day he put in and how many days a week he worked. Especially his work load during football and track as he was an assistant in both sports. So, I decided to change my major to nursing. I stated all the above to get to the point that only another coach has the right to judge another coach. People who aren't in the profession have no clue what it takes to be successful and sometimes as a coach you can do everything right and still lose. You won't see me posting anything negative about a coach at any level. Now, that doesn't mean I always agree with their actions.  ;D
This has to be one of the most rediculous posts i've read to date. are you seriously sitting there stating that no one has the right to question a coach unless they're a coach themselves? LOL, i'm not "in the profession", but i can bet you i've forgotten more about this game then you'll ever know about! And for katkiller, ask jim harbaugh, or jimmy johnson how long it takes to turn a program into a traditional winner, or nick saban, urban meyer, i guess i could go on, but you get the point. Set goals for your team, high ones and when the team has one to shoot for, you create teamwork, have your team working together for a common good. Don't settle for the same old generic "well it's our first year, i don't expect us to win". Those are nothing but excuses. And excuses are signs of weakness.
Mister, you are so bad with grammar there should be a rule. A poster must have at least an 8th grade education before posting on this message board because besides your frequent spelling problems you have reading comprehension difficulties. You have me shaking my head at how "ridiculous" some of your comments are. I stated only a coach has a right to judge another coach. I did not say you couldn't question a decision a coach makes as I even stated, "I don't always agree with their actions". The most ridiculous part of your post is the fact you aren't in the coaching profession but think you have "forgotten more about this game then you'll ever know about!". Please enlighten me as to how you are going to prove your statement. Then again you don't know more than the vast majority of high school coaches who are at the varsity level. You definitely don't know more about the sport than coaches at the FCS or FBS divisions of DI college football. You show how smart you are when comparing Jimmy Johnson with coaches turning a college program into a "traditional winner". At the University of Miami, Howard Schnellenberger had already turned that program into a "traditional winner".Then, at Dallas maybe you heard of the Herschel Walker trade? [Hidden Content]. That was the reason for his success in Dallas. Look at his time with the Miami Dolphins. His success with Dallas didn't translate to the Dolphins as his best record there was 10-6 in 1998. In 1996 he was 8-8, 9-7 in 1997 and 9-7 in 1999; his four year record for the Miami Dolphins was 36-28. [Hidden Content]
how many rings does he have? and mister, i could have sworn it takes 11 on both sides of the ball to win football games not just one running back. correct me if i'm wrong, but not on grammer, that's you're way of deflecting the facts and truths i'm saying. i'm not a coach, but i grew up a son of one (H.S. VARSITY State Champ OC/D1 Letterman), a nephew of another (H.S. Varsity HC/College HC/D1 Letterman) and a long line of coaches that carry my same last name, so i know just a little about this game. so there's your proof.
You call that proof? I have several relatives and friends who have been in the coaching profession or they are currently coaching. That has no barring on my knowledge of the game of football and neither does your relationships cause you to know more. Honestly, I am very surprised that the son of a high school coach who won a state championship thinks he knows as much about the game as people who it is their JOB to know the game. Thanks for the prior post, as we can all see you are a fair weathered fan. Support when they win and stay away when they aren't.  ::)
don't put words in my mouth. all i said was i knew more than you. which is evident by your remark about being a coaches son doesn't mean you know more about the game. any coach will tell you they would love to have coaches sons on their squad. and if they said it didn't matter, then they prob weren't winning many games. but in your case you never put on a jock anyway so you really wouldn't understand.
Ring the bell and go at it, but do it in another forum...
 4.
That is one of the most stupid post I've read in a long time. Sleepy played a sport at Lamar but I'll let him tell you which one if he wants.
Glad to hear it. I've coached at the D1 level. Believe what you want to believe.

I DO know what Brian Mayper told Taylor. Yes, he did get a try-out. But, he was told some things that would hamper anyone. If you want the whole story, you can be a man and call me at 727-1430!!! Mayper and his staff are not telling you the whole story because he picked their kicker. Coach Woodard saw Taylor and said that he would offer him something. Then, all of the sudden, Mayper said NO. What's up with that??
Not gonna get in to this with you and play he said she said.  There is always more to the story on both sides.
As I said earlier tell us all what you know since you know so much about the situation?  Enlighten the rest of us.  So far I have seen nothing but blah blah blah.   Like I said earlier there are 3 sides to the story.......The coaches side, Trahan's side and in the middle is the truth.  I say that is every situation there is. Also you started THIS so grab your balls and finish it.  You want to come on this site and call Trahan out and say that he screwed around then present proof.  Your still saying there is more to the story well YOU were not there so you have no clue what the story is.  You are getting second or third hand information.
I did not start this.  There was another thread about how stupid the Lamar coaches were for not signing him.  If you will read back in this thread someone else brought this up.  I responded because bashing the coaches gets old.  All I said is there was more to the story and that is not for this board to know.  Bottom line is in college sports if the coaches think you are good enough they will have you.........if not they won't.  It is the business of college athletics.  I have been there and done it.  Just how it is.  Like it or not.
You did start this with when you called Taylor out for screwing around.  If that is not starting this I don't know what is.  You called him out by name when you have no clue yourself.
If Taylor Trahan wouldn't have screwed around he may have made it.  Coaches gave him 3 different chances.  There is more to that story than everyone is presenting!
Did you hear Trahan bash the coaches???  No he doesn't even get on here.   You keep saying there is more for to the story and there very well may be but it isn't one sided either.  There are things that the Coaches told Trahan that people don't know but you don't see him on here talking about it.  Maybe you need to get your facts straight before you come on a forum and down a kid you probably have NEVER met.  That gets OLD also people downing kids who have talent.  Coaches have agendas too and it isn't always for the better of the team.  Sometimes it is the good ole boy system.   Also Coach Woodard thought he was good enough.
Coaches have agendas to and it is not always for the better of the team............do you really believe that?  This is COLLEGE SPORTS........not high school.  College coaches get the BEST players they can because they HAVE TO WIN or they will get FIRED.  There is no good ole boy system when it comes to competing on the  D1 level.  Again......I know I did it.  Until you have been there people just don't understand.  They don't care who you are or where you came from.  It is all a results oriented business.  I apologize if I offended you.  It was not my intent.
There is "no good ole boy system when it comes to competing on the D1 level..." Did you really play collegiate sports? There is always an agenda and a "good ole boy system" (including women's sports). I don't know the situation with this player so I can't comment on the coaches or the player, but don't pretend that Lamar coaches don't have their networks and keep players lower on the depth chart for alternate reasons.
 6. Did LU do a national search?
 7.
Both Rice and North Texas are hardly ever any good but they have no intentions of dropping down.  Texas State and UTSA will soon be competing with North Texas for the worst FBS team in Texas, but both schools see that as a better option than staying in the SLC.  I wouldn't be surprised if both Lamar and SHSU are both FBS schools within 5 years.
So SHSU, Lamar, TX State, UTSA and SFA should all go FCS? And they will all do it in the next five years? Why not drop the rest of the SLC in there. Perhaps UTA and Corpus can start programs in the next couple years and join to. Surely they will all be able to contend for a BCS game in 10-15 years.
 8.
Just to clarify a couple of things. One it is Webber International (two b's). Two, North Texas is in a FBS conference but not a BCS school. See Boise State.
I apologize for the typos. Web"b"er International with two b's was a formidable program. The North Texas - BCS comment was facetious. NT joining a power conference is as likely as LU going to FBS.
 9. How about being dominant in the division you just joined before thinking you are ready to take the next step? Weber International - Dominant force in NAIA, great 7 point win. SFA - 71 to 3... need more be said. Lamar just got its program back, enjoy the green grass on this side of the bridge for a while. Let North Texas be the worst DI BCS school in Texas for now.
