1. any chance that RSS could be 4a next year?
 2. what did keener play last year? I thought mcbride was a hell of a QB and would only get better.
 3. Wasnt McBride the QB last year for the 8th grade?

anybody? Nobody Knowssss What Dayton's score isssss *In my best Louis Armstrong (sisters) voice*  :o
No freshmen game. JV Dayton 32 NF 14 Some freshmen did play up with the JV.  Fr. WR/RB Kyle McBride ran a kick off back for a TD and the Fr. QB Jakarius Keener scored on about an 8 yard run. A mostly (80%) freshmen defense played the last series (3 plays) and held NF to 0 yardage.
4. Last year CBJ ran the spread offense and ran it well. It was a watered down version of what RSS was doing. They were the only true feeder into RSS where everyone is zoned there. I assume they are running the option at CBJ this year but dont know for sure. And that is true, GCCISD is at a disadvantage compared to other districts in football beause of the way they are zoned trying to even up the demographics. As for BH, both the CBJ and Gentry squads crushed them last year in 8th grade. The athletes were not, overall, on par with each other. I say gimmick because the option is run by very few teams now even in HS and more so in college. Most defenses get zero practice against it so in that sense it is gimmicky. In the 70's and 80's it was the norm.

I saw BH jr high run this and from an execution view, they ran it well.  I dont think BH athletes are naturally better than RSS.  But something is happening between youth/JR. High football and high school ball at RSS where there is limited commitment for the program.
Is any RSS feeder jr. high running the offense? I would venture to say no. There is where the problem starts. From birth until they graduate, BH kids run the high school offense/defense schemes. GCCISD has not been like that for a long, long time. The results prove it out.
5. I agree the current QB has no arm and to me is too small anyway..but an article in the paper a while back the coach was touting how good he was going to be...could be, but one shot from the giants at North Shore or PAM and then what? LP you just dont understand how bad its been at sterling and for so long....this year started with some excitement but the Lee game killed it from the get go.
Its hard to run a passing offense when you have a QB with no arm.    We can argue schemes again but the more I here the grumblings the more I'm realizing some parents and fans don't know what success is.  Its not inherited, its earned. A new scheme or coach is not going to grant success but the work and support of the players and parents, fans, and community.
6. I agree with what you said 100%. Again that is why I blame GCCISD for hiring him, it really wasnt fair to him or the kids knowing the system he wanted to bring in.  The losing has changed peoples attitudes from where they believe it can be changed to we will just move to north shore or dayton. No one believes so no one is willing to stick it out because people have stuck it out for 20 years without any success. I wish GCCISD would have allowed OLIN to come over because the track record was there, he wanted a challenge and I think people would have bought into it.
Nope not successful in taking them to the playoffs more than once.  I am not saying this offense won't be successful.  I am sure it could be as it is with BH.  BH has everyone buying into the system.  Is that because they had already had years of decent football and were just ready for a change and were going to back whoever they brought in and whatever system they would use? I don't know the answer here.  There has to be excitement for the program from the players and parents or this coach is set up to fail without really getting a fair shot.  Maybe the years of losing has soured everyone's commitment to RSS football.  And now a boring offense?  Hopefully they get it turned around.  Aduddell is fighting an uphill battle.
7. I dont think anyone is intentionally trying to do anything, I just dont think what he is trying to do fits the best with players he has. Last year with just 3 players, nelson, gibson and mixon, the offense scored a lot of points but would lose 50-48. This year there is no question the defense is better, but what is the difference in losing 14-13 vs 50-48 except atleast 50-48 the game is actually exciting for the kids and fans. Why not combine the best of both worlds and have the explosive offense and better defense? BTW, how did #11 look for sterling running the ball? He is a freshman and I believe is playing fullback.
 8. here is some pics..mostly of UT though [Hidden Content]#
 9. any pics from the scrimmage?
 10. No BH didnt look as bad. IMHO BH has to run a gimmick offense because they dont have the athletes to win otherwise. Sterling on the other hand has some really good players are the lower levels that would excel in open spaces with one on one opportunities. One of the freshman has already been moved up to varsity and is playing RB. I hope that the ones left at the lower levels stick with it, I am hearing again lots of grumblings about the offense from kids and parents alike.
 11. haha no I was not there, I went to the GCM- Dayton game instead :) a lot closer and lot more exciting to watch  ;)
 12. lol yeah we could tell, that one td drive with a minute left was dominating triple option attack
 13. So whats the deal with the sub varsity? Has WB only had one JV and FR team all year or just starting this week because of grades?
 14. Am I correct in saying westbrook only as one JV and freshman team? Grades?
 15. When did RSS open?  I am missing two coaches. Also why did Al Dennis quit coaching? So this is what we have open till 71 ? Hess 71 Dennis 72- 83 Bundy 84- 86 Stafford 87-91 Manley 92 -99 Gandy 00-01 ? Terrebone 02-03? Long 04? Minyard 05-10? Aduddel 11
 16. can anoyne list the years of the head coaches at Sterling? I read something that said Hess was only here in 71. I am guessing Dennis was there from 72- ? Then you had Stafford 87-91?, Manley 92-97, Gandy ? Terrebone, ???, Minyard 04-10, Aduddell 2011
 17. Its the same at all three high schools. Between the three, we have what three wins?
 18. Yep I was afraid after the Soho game that if they didnt win this one it was an O-fer. Too bad they fought so hard to get back into the game to lose it right off the bat. Had the D stopped them to start OT I bet they win that game.
 19. I wouldnt call it misdirection but it does have multiple reads. Most of the plays look the same, fullback crashing the middle, QB reading the DE either handing off or pulling it to run the option. Nothing to me that looks like counters or backside screens. but you are right about the QB's ,the Sr actually has talent but not enough commitment. The sophs are just young and that litle one cant throw at all. He is really tough but like you said so small. The problem with him is I think he is grown, he looked just like that in 8th grade. He will lay the wood to you but just doesnt have much weight behind it. Sahen you are a dying breed and i give you props for the continued support. Hopefully they get a W tonight for the kids.
honestly, i think the lack of execution on offense really stems from the fact that they don't have a quarterback that knows how to run the offense correctly...this offense is supposed to be an equalizer for teams that have a smaller offensive line and less talent...it is a misdirection type thing, actually similar to the spread but you hand it off and toss instead of throw the ball...but the QBs had no experience in it prior to this year and its killing them, they either make a bad read or time after time after time hold the ball too long and wait too long to make a decision (which means they get clobbered and fumble because the o-line is up the field making blocks on the secondary like they are supposed to)...the good thing is the 2 new QBs they are using are sophomores (or so i over heard at the stadium) so they should learn, but the bad thing is that will take plenty of time for them to do... one thing though, the one quarterback that is tiny (probably 5'5" 140 lbs or something like that) needs to be in JV, but not because of play but because of size...im honestly afraid for that kid when we get in district...it is just going to take one play where they hold the ball too long and a monster DT is going to crush him....i guess we don't have anyone else to put out there and the kid has shown some good instincts on some plays, but i think they need to let the kid grow a little more and put him back there next year... anyway, just my opinion from one of the rare RSS alums that goes and watches their games with no other attachment to RSS other than i graduated there...
20. Maybe GCCISD only cares about being known as a Water Polo Powerhouse lol
Joebob, I really appreciate the discussion.  Its time we get to the nitty-gritty of what's t really hindering GCCISD football.
21. I have heard the same thing about some players skipping or leaving early from film study and even practices...One being the starting QB for the Lee game who is now playing defense. If true, not sure what kind of message it sends to the rest of the players if he is then allowed to play anything period. 20 of the 60 kids show up for film? Move up the younger kids and cut the fat. And thats the whole point of this offense, for lesser skilled players to be able to hang with more athletic teams , IE like army/navy occasionally hanging with Notre Dame or the sec but if the kids dont buy into it or they are not committed you get what we are seeing on Friday nights. Again if they dont beat Pasadena its going to be 0-10
The Jr. High feeder schools are not fully implementing this offense so the kids will be starting fresh in 9th grade.  The skill players are not buying into this system at the high school level.  There is a lack of committment from the players and no real consequences.  Talent is always important.  But, they have kids miss practice and still play.  They have roughly 20 of the 60 kids show up for day after the game workout/film study with no consequences. This offense requires machine like reactions.  You only get there through study and repetition and we do not have that from most of the players.  I have seen teams with lesser talent beat more talented teams because they had a high level of committment and it showed on the field. These coaches may talk it but do not walk it consistently.  So a system that requires such dedication coupled with players that are not dedicated and coaches that do not hold kids accountable is going to lead to more years of bad football at RSS.  On top of that, you have coaches that are not putting the ball in play makers hands in the right situations.  Putting a receiver in a RB position or putting a RB in a QB position is tough...they don't think the way the position is supposed to play. I hope the Jr. High coaches do avoid this offense so that this hire doesnt set us back multiple years once this guys contract is up.
22. True RSS fans ? I think that is an extinct breed...we dont have the old men at the donut shop talking ranger football because the program has been in the toilet for 30 years so no tradition was ever built. The only fans are the parents of the kids, the parents of the band and Stars. You have very few if any people that are just fans and contine to support the program. At Lee yes, Sterling no. I guess that came with being the "new other" school when Lee has been around forever. LP I am an alum and always will be a Ranger thus why I am passionate about what I am seeing. The problem is, we have heard this same story now for what 30 years? Only coaches I can remember are Stafford, Manley, Terrebone, the guy from San angelo gandy, Minyards boss and then Minyard. Every time its buy into the system, it takes time etc but what do we have to show for it? Nothing. This is why this hire was so important, finally, the talent is there again which is a miracle considering the three high school split, and it seems we have taken a time warp back to the 70's. I dont need a sexy offense, I just want one that works. We are never going to have the beef up front to just impose our will and run it down peoples throats. We need misdirection, we need trickery, we need to spread the field, and use our kids with speed in space.  Kids only get 4 years of the HS experience and if you think about it, how many generations have been wasted learing new systems and giving the adminstators time to put the right guy in place? Its such a waste and its sickening to watch. Especially when you see the programs like Dayton (who built theirs with a former Baytown guy in Jerry Stewart), Katy, North Shore, and to some extent BH.  Like qB1 said, all of those schools have their JR Highs being farm systems and teaching them the basics. In GCCISD, the high school coaches in the past rarely give any thought to the Jr High kids or coaches. The last two years atleast the kids at CBJ learned the spread Sterling was running and had success with it only to have the carpet yanked out from under them.  Out of all the jr highs, it was probably the one that had some resemblance of a system from the high school, but when  paired against pretty even talent against Dayton, the differnece was those kids over there were drilled hard on the system and had a whole nother level of knowledge that was the difference in the game. Those kids from 5th grade up are learing some form of their system while the kids in Baytown are being taught the optimist offense lol. As for the coach taking heat, well he should. The numbers speak for themselves and he choose to come here. I still cant figure out why you would leave the resources of Clear Lake where your own son was still playing to take on this project. Maybe it was all about the $$$$$$$ As for GCCISD, I blame them for a few reasons. One having three high schools to begin with and then forcing RSS to stay as a 5A. It just isnt right with the numbers they have and I'd like to hear the reasoning on why they choose to do it. Second by not having true feeder programs into the JR Highs which makes it virtually impossible to teach or implement any kind of system. Third, and maybe its because no one wants the jobs, but the hires have left something to be desired. Manley, Terrebone, Minyard? The new guy at  Lee? The guy at GCM seems decent but like Pats said they have the ability so what is missing? Bottom line its very frustrating that NONE of the GCCISD programs are doing well and frankly its not acceptable.
Just offering a different viewing window: whatever happen to taking pride in your work? The will to make work what is given to you?  I understand that the fans want a sexy offense but if it true that the kids are undiscipline as I'm reading and Coach A has brought in structure then I ask what I really important to RSS?  Most good program have a foundation that win or lose they will uphold it it. I'm not getting that about RSS "supporters".  People who have taking over responibility to rebuilt a piec of crap (car, house, gov. Office, restaruant, vacant lot, etc.) Know its an ugly process to make a swan out of an ugly duckling.  I believe that he (coach) is doing the right thing by taking the heat he is taking and to be fair he CHOSE. To come to a program that has the support compariable to a large junior high. So I don't thinki he really cares what fair-weather fans think. And I don't Blame him. So often a coach is ask to be more than a coach to these kids. He has to be a male parental figure, a counsulor, therapist, best friend and so oh(not to mention he still has to perform his teaching duties).  Just be patient TRUE RSS fans and support YOUR program no matter who is there.
I dont disagree with getting rid of the kids that dont have respect, dont come to practice, get in trouble etc...I think he is handling those correctly by having a strict discipline program with basically 3 strikes you are out. Whats crazy is why did it take until now to enforce it? Minyard let the kids run over him with the inmates running the asylum. I do give props to the new guy as he doesnt put up with much BS which should be the case. As for practice, there are a lot of eyes out there and pretty much everyone is seeing and saying the same thing. At the freshman level the parents not happy which bodes trouble for the future of the program. If you lose these kids, and these are a GOOD group of kids on and off the field, then I dont see how this program will ever get going. Most of these kids are very respectful and many are AP students which should be a coaches dream...but if the kids arent having fun or dont believe A)they quit and focus on basketball, baseball, track etc B)They quit and turn into thugs, C) They move to another school, that is what I am worried about. I get the impression that the coach cringes every time Gibson makes a play on a pass because it just feeds the parents and kids into wanting to do it more. Ive watched his reaction and you can tell its like raking your nails on a chalkboard for him. Kind of like the rest of us watching fumble after fumble and  1 yard runs into a stacked 10 in the box defense.
Unless we know what happens M-Thurs, I say we leave the game decisions to the coaches. I like what I see off the field. Right now that is more important to me than W's.
