LU1991 replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Great job Pirates. I'm sad to say it was the first game this season for me to attend, but what a game it was. Hard hitting, in your face Pirate football. Brings back the should've would've could've back in 1984 but whose looking backward. Can't wait till the next game. -
Silsbee's Treadway commits to Lamar
LU1991 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I talked to some Silsbee guys and they think he will be a great addition to Lamar. Sounds like he has a great work ethic and he's a big guy that will only be bigger when he plays for LU. -
Lamar announces four player women's signing class

Looks like a great recruiting class. Another step forward for Lamar and another great job by Tidwell. They should be fun to watch. -

Not my first choice, but he's growing on me. -
Athletic Complex open house
LU1991 replied to NorthoftheBorder's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I was very impressed with the entire layout of the complex. On par with with the major universities. I saw Tidwell and wanted to ask about the bb job, but sure he would have given a standard answer. LU should be proud of this top notch facility! By the way...don't step on the Cardinal head. -
Nederland’s Ben Jones will play for McNeese

McNeese has a great tradition and fan base but they haven't made any attempt to move to the next level. They are still the same McNeese when Lamar dropped football in 1989. Not much improvement to the campus or sports facilities. Lamar has set the foundation with campus improvements and upgrading the sports facilities to move beyond the status quo, thanks to the vision of Simmons and Tubbs.
McNeese has about 8000 students and has not grown much over the years so no it does not have the money to do lavish improvements but they will have a nice new facility and Ben can come up through the system and at LU he may not get the same chances due to jc transfers. It al comes down to him and his family I think everyone should be happy for him instead of degrading the program he chooses.
I'm always glad when a local kid has the chance to play ball at the college level and I do wish the best for Ben Jones and Ford (except when they play Lamar). I can't say that I'm not disappointed that they chosen another SLC school rather than Lamar, but I do wish them the best and look forward to seeing them play. When comparing universitys in general, I will point out the advantages that I believe Lamar has over the other schools. I probably came off a little rough after hearing that Ford was going to SFA. I have to admit...it was a little tough to swallow. -
McNeese will complete a brand new fieldhouse and weight facility this summer its looking good.
Hopefully they put a lock on their new fieldhouse. Lamar football players had money, phones, & mp3 players stolen after halftime during their game at McNeese. -

I guess we will know sometime tomorrow what Ford will do. Hopefully he will be wearing red and the ticket office had better be open. -

It would be a great pick up for LAMARand would pay dividends with recruiting for years to come. Ford, JJ and JJ would make a great offensive machine. -

Well said Sleepy...JJWooten please do not try to drag LU down to SHSU's level. You obviously have not been to Lamar's campus in a while. That being said, I have to admit that I have never been to the sticks to see SHSU. I wish the best for Ben Jones, but I honestly can't see how anyone can pick McNeese over Lamar when comparing facilities. I was surprised to see the shape of Cowboy staduium last year. McNeese does have a great fan base and fans with character and a history of winning teams. -
I keep waiting for Roc to make that turn but I have to jump on the band wagon after the last two performances. He is obviously being out coached.

Commissioner says WAC has new members lined up
LU1991 replied to bigred360's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Great response BigRed360. LU is moving in the right direction whether some like it or not. I'm not saying there is not going to be pitfalls but they have made a giant leap since I left campus in 1991. I was there when the board let us down and terminated the football program. The local talent staying at Lamar will keep the fans in the seats. -
Chavis is a big guy but he needs to be on the defensive side of the ball. He's very athletic but dropped too many balls. What position does his brother play???
-
Enjoyed every game....win or lose. Surprised at the turn out....surprised at the tailgating...can't wait till Saturday...can't wait till next year when it counts. GO LU!!!

LU vs. S. Dakota Updates.....LU wins 24-20!!!

Great game for Prewitt and some incredible catches from the receivers. Sorry LU let down the Raider by winning. Maybe the Raider should try watching the Dallas Cowboys for the rest of the season. -
Maybe another play in the playbook. DP should be the starting qb after last week.

Could LU coaches be over their heads
LU1991 replied to hipster's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
All you guys have some legitimate arguments but I still think you need to wait and see what changes Coach W makes in the off season and what recruits he attracts before making anyone walk the plank. It's way too early for this thread. -
Lamar opens as an 11 pt underdog sat. vs S.D.
LU1991 replied to ThrillHill80LHS's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The following is S.D. record for this season: Sat, Sep 4 at Central Florida L, 7-38 Sat, Sep 11 at Minnesota W, 41-38 Sat, Sep 18 Northwestern Oklahoma State W, 48-14 Sat, Sep 25 at North Dakota State L, 16-38 Sat, Oct 2 North Dakota W, 27-17 Sat, Oct 9 at UC Davis L, 13-17 Sat, Oct 16 Northern Iowa L, 14-19 Sat, Oct 23 at Southern Utah L, 13-31 Sat, Oct 30 Northern Colorado W, 34-6 Sat, Nov 6 Cal Poly L, 24-38 They lead no.18 Cal Poly 24-17 late in the 3rd until giving up 21 unanswered points. -
He initially was in the wide receiver position and has moved to the QB spot. I was at the GSU game and after the first couple of offensive possessions, Doug was on target with almost every pass. He took controll of the offense and you could see him talking to the other players and leading the team. Something I believe we were lacking. Impressive for his first start.

Could LU coaches be over their heads
LU1991 replied to hipster's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I believe some of you have lost your marbles if you thought LU would dominate in football this year. I agree there is plenty of room for improvement but already questioning the coaching...are you serious??? You can have the best of players but until you play some games....you do not know if you have a team. Give the coach a couple of seasons before you start your conspiracy theories. -
Could LU coaches be over their heads
LU1991 replied to hipster's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Lamar has already won more games than most people had expected for a first year program. They have been in every game except two. I'm sure Coach W will make adjustments at the end of the year both with players and possibly coaches but I believe it is way to early to be questioning the coaches in their first season. If we are receiving the same results in the 3rd or 4th season....then we have a problem. They are making some positive steps forward with the defense and the offense showed some ball control against Georgia State although they lost. Georgia State and South Alabama both had several seniors playing this year and Lamar has one or two on the roster. I will be willing to bet that we will have different outcomes next year. Looking forward to the next two home games.
