Winning in basketball is still a little foreign, but it's fun.
I'm with you on that, man.  Your team is pretty good.  You have something to be proud of.

 5.
I am sure in a rivalry like this, there are instances where both sides behave badly...I am not saying this is proper behavior but it is a bit "high and mighty" for PNG fans to come on here and complain about Nederland's kids when I can assure you that I have first hand seen some pretty sad behavior from PNG students at Nederland games as well...unfortunate by product of an intense rivalry...my point is, just don't come on here saying "Nederland's students did this and Nederland's students did that" when the same type of behavior happens on the other side as well. As for the guy who says playing it the way he did, Abel only gave PNG a 25% chance of winning?  I assume by this you felt that PNG had NO chance of winning in OT?  PNG played a great game and their kids should be commended...hard way to lose for sure, especially coming off of another buzzer beater with Central...Coach Abel is a great guy and in that situation you have to trust that a coach knows his team better than the average fan...it is so easy to judge after the fact...if PNG had won, everyone would be on here second guessing Coach English (inappropriately, I might add) and praising Abel as a hero...at the end of the day, it comes down to execution by the players and some times just the good old fashioned breaks. Again, as a Bulldog fan, I tip my hat to PNG for a well played game and a great effort although I was certainly happy with the outcome!
+ 2 for  you!  Excellent post.
 6. Central have made great progress.  It would even be better if they were above H-J, whom they've beaten already by double digits... ;D ;D
 7. Allen have been playing huge.  The plan to bring in other players and bench the original starters have worked out key.  Allen was not the only player that was starting earlier in the year that's coming in off the bench.  Smith have been playing lights out coming off the bench.   Excellent strategy Coach!
 8.
I believe Able did what was best for that group of kids in that particular situation. I have a son who has played on PNG's varsity team for three years and I have seen every game in that time frame. We never have nor will we ever be the most athletic team on the court. We win through pace of play and solid defense. We can score when we have to in most situations however our strong suit is half court defense. Able's strategy last night worked. There was a wrench thrown in when nobody blocked out Kelvin. Had we made it to OT who knows what would've happened. I do know this though. All the PNG haters on this board (soulja, aaw, joey, lazeek and others) are going to puke all over themselves at the end of this basketball season when the Tribe takes a playoff spot!
When did I turn into an Indian hater?  I'm on YOUR side. I think the PN-G coach made the right decision.  Maybe you need to go back and read this thread again...
 9.
To answer your question Soulja I would much rather have the other team score with the clock not moving because then I would have time to score. PNG would have had no advantage in OT. The crowd was 50 50. And Ned made a great comeback to get it to OT so they had the momentum. Plus when you have the ball you have more control. By playing sound defense for that minute at least gives you the ball or time to win. You play to win. PNG played not to lose. Also #12 for PNG deserves great respect. He played the game of his life. Very small but a great stroke and used his ball fakes to perfection. Nobody played harder than him. Finally how about that atmosphere? Coach English has a tape he showed us and still shows his players before every Ned PNG from when he was playing. He scored at the buzzer to beat PNG much like Kelvin just did but the game was at the Dog Dome and about 500 more fans stormed the court than last night. Its great motivation and glad to see the rivalry is finally back to where it was 30 years ago. Its been a long time since a basketball game has been that relevant in this rivalry.
Excuse my last post as it was done from the Cell Phone with the misspelled letters and punctuation errors. I had completely forget that PN-G led the entire game and Nederland grabbed momentum late.  I'm assuming that Nedeland had the momentum.  Now I can see the argument.  I'm normally for letting your team play defense, but in this case, I see why you would have forced the issue, ForeverADog .  But I also see what PN-G's coach was doing and it may have worked if they would have carried out the play as instructed.  I'm willing to bet that the PN-G coach, one of his last words during the last dead ball, was to 'please box out!'  Had they boxed out, I'm sure the Nederland players would have still went for the offensive rebound and it would have been called over the back foul, probably putting PN-G on the line to win the game.  BTW, was Nederland in the penalty at the end of the game?
 10. Forcing the action will most likely draw a foul.  Would you want Neeedrland scoring points with the clock NOT moving or with the clock moving?  Also, Nederland may have messed up their last play and jacked up a 3 pointer, missed, giving way to a long reboud, giving you a chance to take a couple of dribbles and get a layup or 3 pointer off.  But wait, you have to be able to box out and grab a reboud for that to happen.  Point is, PN-G coach banked on his boys to play sound defense and box out, AKA sound defense. You Have to find your man and box out, people...
 11. Shlykbmt is correct.  The PN-G coach called a great play.  You have to do fundimentals like boxing out.  Had PN-G secured that reboud, you go into overtime with the pressure on the Bulldogs because their thinking 'we shouldn't be in OT with a team that will not make the playoffs'.  Plus, PN-G had the home court and fan support on their side. You force the action, you foul them and send a good free throw shooter to the line and your still down or you make Nederland score and then the pressure is on you to answer that score in limited time.  Good decsion, Coach Abel (sp).

"I'll get my brother to beat you up!" If you don't believe you can win it all, then you won't.
PA Memorial would beg to differ...  ;D ;D
See how you had to go out of district (get your big brother  ;D) and to a 5A team? If we are going to try and win state, I don't think any 5a teams will be in the way. It's funny that Nederland has hardly ever been included in playoff basketball talks, but when we are doing very well and could possibly make a big push towards state (who knows how far we will go) we have threads predicting which game will be our demise instead of having anything encouraging said.
After district, I'm rooting te dogs on all the way.  I was simply throwing a jab in about PAM. ;D ;D
 13.
Never right to call anybody that. But Ned used to chant that at Brandon Arceneaux back when I was in high school. Great game. I hate there's no shot clock in HS ball but PN-G did the right thing by staying back they just didn't box out. Dogs keep finding ways to win period.
+1 for you! 8)
 14. Wow!  That's the same way the Indians lost to my Jags... On a last second tip in with the game tied. IMO, I think it was a great idea to let Ned hold for the last shot.  You let your defense determin the outome of the game.  It sound like it worked just as the PN-G coach planned...  Except sounds like the Indian team got caught with their mouths open and forgot to box out, which cost them the game.  How could you not find one of the star players at this time?  You knew they would crash the boardds..
