When coach Lloyd was at Huntington.....you couldn't have a girl friend during basketball season.....the kids wanted to play bb more than they wanted a female relationship.....there wasn't a parent issue about it either.
But you know you cannot stop a teenager from getting a girlfriend if they wanted to.  You can't watch them 24/7, but you can trust them to make the right decision...
 2.
Yes we do live in the USA and yes it is still a Democracy and No one has told the kid he has to cut his hair. But it is his choice ,if he wont to play after school that the rules. I know most kids today have no idea what that word is. But welcome to the real  world that most of use have to live in.
These kids are more smarter than you will ever know.
 3.
and a student can choose not to play basketball for Silsbee if his hair is that important to him. ;) No one is being forced to do anything. It's still a choice.
AAW, that's telling him that he 'have' to cut his hair.  Come on, man!   :D
 4.
The Silsbee coach has SPOKEN wheather it is a good rule or not........my wife makes me shave every day wheather I want to or not... ;D
My Girlfriend tells me she wants me to wear button down shirts everytime we go out to eat and I have yet to listen unless I feel like it.  but that don't stop me from being a gentlemen...
 5.

I cant begin to address what SFAJACK02 was saying, or trying to say.  People having human kids? Hasnt effecting anything in the past?  He has had the rule for 7 years.  Wanted to extend his idea on down to the 7th/8th grade.  Great idea. What kind of message does dreadlocks, afros, long shaggy hair have.  Usually an unprofessional look.  A look of disorganization, exactly the opposite of what you want for your team.  If a player likes his hair more than playing ball then dont play.  This is not a racial issue. Why do some want to try to make it one.  The message he wants to send is of organization, uniformity, professionalism.  Something the kids need for basketball and for life.  And there are only a few Pro athletes I would want my children to have as role models.  There are so many more people deserving role model status by our youth.
They have it in the NBA and doesnt affect anything. This is not a job interview its basketball. This not going to determine world peace or the next president. That gets a COME ON MAN!!!! You should be the role model to your kids and not basketball players. Im a black man myself and I dont think its a race issue I just feel that individuals(Thats right individuals) should chose what they want to do with their hair. WE ARE A DEMOCRACY IN THE USA RIGHT?
It's only natural that basketball kid's role models are NBA players since it is probably every basketball kid's dream to play in the NBA...They want to dress like them, talk like them, swagger like them...  ect...
Yes, exactly.  That's what Silsbee's staff needs to worry about.  Keep winning and stop nagging about something that have nothing to do with winning ball games or anything of substance.
Why is anyone not involved in the Silsbee ISD, Silsbee High School Athletics and /or the Silsbee community WORRIED about what Silsbee ought to be worried about?
Just goes to show how little you know.  I am involved in the Silsbee comunity.  I have a very close relative that is involved in Silsbee athletics.  (young now of course and not in High School for quite a few years now).  And even if I wasn't involved, why can I not voice my opinion?
 10.
Obviously, you did not "read" my post very well. The reason it is being brought up now is that this is the first year the policy is at the middle school where these two momma's kids play. They are the one's doing the complaining. McDaniel knew of the hair policy years ago but never was interested in playing anyways. I really do not know why he decided to get involved in this article (or is it that he maybe related to one of the mommas ;)) My point is, the article told the side of the mommas at the middle school, never interviewed Coach Williams or any of his staff. The statements that represented Travis came from the parents. Soulja, we can go "round and round" about this but the problem is, I know the facts and you are basing your's off an article of a paper that you personally call a joke of a paper. Again, mountain out of molehills. ;)
Yea, true.  ;D ;D
 11.

ST413 , you just seem like a 'yes man'.  You add no substance to the argument.  You will probably be ok with the coach if he told the kids to hop on one leg with one shoe off while going from class to class...  east texas bb, you talk about professional looking.  In whom's eyes?  I've seen very professional looking people with different hair styles.  You wear nice shoes, starched or creased pants, nice shirt, nice cologne, tasteful tie, hair neat...  things like that.  It seems very stereotype.  And again, these kids do everything right.  They are winning.  Very disciplined club, winning record and will probably win their district.  the higher ups are pulling the puppet strings...
Soulja, just who do you mean when referring to the "higher ups"? Just so you'll know (since you are obviously oblivious to the facts here ::)) this is Travis' policy, no one else's. The football team and other teams do not have this hair policy. So if you are thinking that the "higher ups" has anything to do with it, then why are the other sports not affected? I guess I am just a "yes" man too. ::) I would rather be that than be a fool that spouts off not knowing the facts of the matter.
I'm no fool.  I know what I read and I did read those word choices and I can read between that other BS.  All I know is that the kids do the right thing but yet, that's not enough.  Then you have the 'yes man' that will just roll with anything the coach say, no matter how ridiculous it sounds. (if the shoe fits, wear it).  As I said, these are some good kids that do the right thing.  Hair style should be the least of their worries.  And if the hair policy have been in place for years now, why is is being brought up.  because of 2 parents.  You can say two disgruntal parents but why are we talking about one of the high school kids since this is about extending the policy down to the middle school ranks?
 12.
Trust me, all the players on the high school teams (varsity, JV and 9th) have no problem with the policies that Travis has laid forth to the team. All the players conform. There is no "in-fighting" about it. The article is about TWO mothers of TWO middle school players who have kids on the middle school team who have to get their haircut to play on the teams. Coach Williams policies have been at the high school for years but this is the first year that the middle school has incorporated the same policies. The TWO mothers are just complaining about it and went to the papers to make it public. This whole issue is a classic "mountain out of molehill" thing. Soulja, it's not anything like you think it is. Politics?? You have no clue. It's two crying mommas is all it is.
Ok.  I believe you, man.  I just seen where they mentioned McDaniel in the article and I know  he was a football kid and I know he have the flat top fade.  I can roll with the 'mountain/mole hill' thing.  It's just some of the choice of words that was used in that article didn't sit right with me...

 15.
he isnt making anyone cut their hair they dont have to play and they knew the rules before they started playing
You basically reinterated what you said.  He's making them cut their hair to fit 'someone's' image...  Because they want to send the right message... What message is that?  ::) ::)
 16.

Read the article.  Seems like coach Travis is doing exactly as he should.  He is creating a team concept.  Parents think it is unreasonable.  Well then dont play basketball.  And I dont know why they want to try to make it a racial issue.  The majority of Silsbee's team is black, so in all fairness I think white parents could say their kids are not getting to play because they are white.  Ridiculous statement?  Yes it is.  Both ways.  I guarantee you that if a white kid had long hair he would have to get it cut too.  One women brought up the fact that it is a heritage issue.  Well, it may be, but with Travis, TEAM trumps the heritage issue and since he is the coach you either play for him and get your hair cut, or dont play and keep your hair the way you want.  I dont see anything racial at all about the article.  I dont even know if the coach is black or white.  But, regardless, it is HIS team for this year and he made the rules.  Pretty simple.  If you like your hair better than basketball you dont need to play anyway.
Why do people still have human kids? We are all going to be Robots in the future. Didnt affect anything in the past times, why now? They are winning so why piss the kids off and all of them quite. What will he do then?  Is anyone getting in trouble? Coaches can take stuff too far. Williams is just gonna piss alot of people off!!!
My point exactly... Team is doing great and have been for a few years now. Now all of a sudden, it's a problem.  Politics, I tell ya...
If it was coming from powers up above, why are the football players allowed these haircuts? ::) It's Coach Williams' decision.
Just make the kids wear short shorts and long knee high socks while their at it... Again, I don't see anything wrong if a kid keeps it neat looking.  These kids roll models are NBA players, which they hope to be one day...  These players wear their hair however and produce, work as a team to win and all the other things you are taught as an athlete... And by the way, I know some things about the iner workings up there...  This is only confirming what I've been hearing for years... But hey, rules are rules, right?  Ridiculous, IMO...
 18. Set ground rules on kids that do everything they are asked to do and they can't wear an unextreme hair style...  ::) ::)  Sounds like powers from above...
 19. What kind of message do those hair styles send as said in the article?
 20. It sounds good what you guys are saying but my question never was answered..
Don't know but from what I seen last night he could play in the post on varsity.
How tall is Rob Mitchell?  A program from this year in football had him listed at 6'3"...  but seeing him, he appeared to be more like 6'1"
 22. I mean, they already run all those sprints.  They perfect these plays just like you want.  They don't talk back.  They listen.  They wear their shirt and ties on game day.  Shirt tucked in.  Puts butts in your gym.  The least you can do is let these kids be kids.  Kids have fads... It was like that when we were in school.  Let these kids have it.  Instead of being on some kind of crazy power trip... I still want to know what kind of 'message' these hair styles send...  ::)
 23. Make sure the hair is presentable.  I would like to know what bad message it sends...  let the kids keep the flat top...  Dred locks...  or afro's or braids if they want.  It have to be kept and neat.  Those kids could be well manored.  don't matter what kind of hair style you have.  Let these kids be teenagers.  Your teenagers once in a lifetime.  I think some of the higher ups in Silsbee need to quit being stiff necks and tight behinds...  Goodness gracious!  [IMG][Hidden Content]]
 24.

Why is Central playing Legacy?
This game made no sense. Central will be in trouble when district comes. They will be good defensively but they only have 3 plays on offense and most of the time they just free lancing until someone has a open shot or until they get tired of passing the ball. I'm kind of worried about them. It's a shame to say but they look like a rec ball team with uniforms. Hopefully things change before district.
I don't think you really need to run plays against an extremely inferior team like Legacy.  Also, there are some games left before  district before they iron the kinks out.  This may be a team that hang their hat on defense resulting in easy transition buckets...
