*OF vs. Navasota/Navasota Wins..*
scoobydoo replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
He was from the Navasota area. What is really upsetting is that angry coaches, players, and fans from Navasota had actually gotten on the court on the previous call and had to be removed but no technical was called on them. -
*OF vs. Navasota/Navasota Wins..*

Please don't comment on something you know nothing about. I appreciate the nice comments you made about our team. One call did make the difference and it was not in the field of play. Were you at the game buddy...if not you have no clue as to what your talking about. I know people get on here all the time and blame officials for this or that, but this call tonight was a call that determined the outcome of this game. If the mystery T is not called, Orangefield wins the game by one!!! ok so your saying that OF never missed a free throw? never missed a wide open layup or shot? from what i hear (apoligize if im wrong) OF had 19 turnovers at some point in the game........ 1 call can't not determine the game sorry I will comment on what I know to be....while it is hard to admit, I have learned this lesson through time. Regardless of the final actions in a game (whether it be football, basketball, track)...the whole thing boils down to exactly what the hj commenter said and as hard as it is, what he is saying is true. It was a wild and exciting comeback, but had there not been a comeback to have to make...perhaps the outcome would have been better. I don't have to be anywhere to comment. These girls should be proud of how they played and the ref should be reprimanded (if the UIL deems that he acted harshly and unfairly). I think the problem most people have with the call is this: The referee made a CONSCIOUS DECISION to affect the outcome of a game. He DECIDED IN ADVANCE that he was going to make a call against Orangefield, whether or not it was valid. He as much as admitted it to Coach Jost. So, in that respect, his call did lose the game for Orangefield. -
I saw most or all of 7 games at the Sulphur tournament and the officials had no consistency. Blatant traveling was not called and then they would call it when it didn't look at all as if there was a travel. Someone would get smacked in the face or knocked down with no foul called and then they would call a foul on minor or no contact. I never saw them call a lane violation in any game, even when players camped out in the paint. This is the type of calling that is so frustrating. Fouls are objective, the officials see it their way, not necessarily the way others see it, but anyone can count to three and tell when someone is in the paint too long. As far as the Orangefield games, yes there was some bad calls, but the girls just gave up in the last quarter of the first game when they couldn't catch a break. It was disappointing to see them not give it their all. The second game was much better mentally for Orangefield. At one point they were behind by 22 points and within a few minutes had cut the lead to 7. At least in that game they kept playing, even when the whistle started blowing against them, (but they still committed too many turnovers, gotta protect the ball better). When Orangefield played against Sulphur, you could see the girls got totally taken out of their game when the Sulphur coach called 3 timeouts in a row when they did not have possession. Orangefield went from being up by 6 with a little over a minute to play to losing by 1. They got rattled and made a couple of turnovers. They will have to do better than that in district play. Luckily, Orangefield seems to focus more when it "counts". They could have won all three games in the Sulphur tournament had they taken them more seriously. (By the way, Sulphur won their first game against Jennings in almost the same way as the Orangefield game. They were way behind in most of the game and pulled out a 1 point win at the very end of the game. Lots of help from the officials in that one. The Jennings people were not happy at all.) There will always be complaining about officials (justified or not). Maybe better pay would help, as some have suggested, but you will never get around the fact that most calls depend on the objectivity of the officials. The players will just have to deal with it and play their best.

*Bridge City 10 vs. HF 8 Final/Tuesday*

Apparently, hfaninthestands, 3amagic and a few others on this thread never do something without thinking, never make mistakes, and therefore are entitled to be as judgemental as they want. Also, they can read minds and determine exactly what others are feeling and intending. Nice trick, where can I learn it? -
WO-S 79 Silsbee 74 Final/Playoffs
scoobydoo replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The Law of Averages caught up with Silsbee. Also, a girl by the name of Brittney Scott. Sure, the rest of the team contributes. She can't set up her shots all by herself! ;D Seriously, though, I have always been impressed with Janae, but Rebecca has really picked it up this year. And Kia is always good for a 3-bomb or two (or three, or four...). Just a really talented team. I think the playoffs have shown just how strong 21-3A is. Keep it up! Edited for really poor grammer! That will teach me to proof-read. :-[ -
Lumberton vs Crosby what are yall thoughts
scoobydoo replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Unfortunately, the really good Crosby team showed up. I was hoping Lumberton would win either way, but congratulations Lady Raiders on a great season. Courtney Wilson, you are a phenomenal player (prettiest shot and lightest touch of any post player in the area) and I wish you luck in your college career. -

Diboll is a very good team, but they can be beaten. They defeated Madisonville, who defeated Huntington, who defeated Diboll in their last district game. Lumberton vs Crosby what are yall thoughts

La Marque was no match for Lumberton but Crosby is a different matter. They are a very good team, but if Lumberton plays as well the entire game as they did the first half against La Marque, they should be able to win. Good Luck Lady Raiders. -
Silsbee vs WOS round 3..Game In Evadale!!
scoobydoo replied to 20FAN07's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Trying to predict a winner or favorite out of fellow 21-3A teams is kinda like asking a parent which is their favorite child. There is no way to answer. I just want to say, Good Luck to both Silsbee and WO-S, you are such classy teams and representatives of our district. Hope OF sees the winner of this matchup down the road. Gotta get our half taken care of first, though! One game at a time. -
Orangefield vs. West Columbia Predictions?
scoobydoo replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
How bad is the construction traffic between Beaumont and Barber's Hill on I-10? Any long delays? According to TX DOT there are lane closures east and westbound between Hwys 61 and 563. The closures are supposed to end at 3:30 but to expect delays. Anybody driven that way in the last few days? -

BITE YOUR TONGUE! We want to keep Coach Ancelot forever! ;D Seriously, though. Coach Ancelot could do an excellent job for Lamar or any other place she might go in the future. We're just happy to keep her as long as we can. -
Didn't Kirby Myers of Orangefield sink a 3-point buzzer beater a couple of years ago against Crockett? I bet they are happy to be on the receiving end this time.

Orangefield vs. West Columbia Predictions?
scoobydoo replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Possibly played weak schedule. I couldn't find much on them, just one article. Columbia girls [Hidden Content] From the Brazoria County News Girls' basketball teams getting into playoff mode One task was completed while another is still not finished for area girls’ basketball teams. The Columbia Lady Roughnecks finished off a perfect 29-0 regular season with a 71-33 victory over Columbus last week. Columbia put a capper on the District 24-3A title with the victory, their second consecutive district crown. The Lady Necks have a combined 23-1 record in district play their last two seasons. With the district title, the Lady Necks earned a first round bye in the playoffs. That means they won’t play their first playoff game until late next week. They are looking to get a warm-up game against Liberty Hill this week. The Sweeny Lady Bulldogs have some work to do to earn their postseason spot. They will be a part of a mini-tournament along with Brookshire Royal and Stafford at Sealy High School to determine which team will be the third playoff representative out of District 24-3A. All three teams finished with identical 8-6 district marks. Sweeny won a coin toss Monday and won’t have to play until 5 p.m. Friday. Stafford and Brookshire Royal will play Thursday. The Lady Bulldogs (15-14) put together a big third quarter to take a 37-29 going into the final period and finished things off with a clutch performance at the free throw line down the stretch. Brittany Reado had 16 points while Dorrie Thompson had 12. Zapfire Reece finished with 10. In Columbia’s win over Columbus, Laura Whitehead had 27 points while Jade Davis had 18 points. Tiffany Johnson had 10 points and 12 rebounds while Kellie Kitchen had four points and seven rebounds. ................................ Columbia lost their first playoff game last year by 20 points ( score was 49-29 - they had a first round bye, won their district with only 1 loss). The other two teams in their district also lost their first round playoff games. Don’t know if that is indicative of a weak district or not. Columbia is undefeated so far this year, so you can’t take them lightly. But I think it’s time for the Orangefield Lady Bobcats to hand them their first loss of the season and send them home. Go Orangefield! -
Good luck Lady Mustangs! Show them 21-3A rules!

OF 80 Coldspring 48 Final/Monday
scoobydoo replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Man, I'd hate to be that Coldspring coach. I started feeling sorry for him towards the end. The Coldspring parents starting screaming horrible things at him early in the game, when the score was close. I see where their kids got their attitudes with that kind of example. The thing was, the coaching aspect of the game was pretty good, they had a good press and they managed to get open shots on offense. I'm also very proud of the way our girls responded to the flagrant fouls. They kept their head and tempers and just played ball. Congratulations, girls, on the great win. Keep it up! -
Found one article on Liberty, also from the HCNonline. Lady Panthers struggle in big loss to Cleveland, 64-31 - Liberty looking to playoffs after one more contest By: MIKE GEORGE, EDITOR 02/07/2007 Liberty's Lady Panthers jumped out to a 10-8 lead after the first period of play last Friday night at home, but the inability to get past single digits in following frames, did them in, 64-31 at the hands of the Lady Indians from Cleveland. "We got some sloppy play out of some young players and that's going to happen at times," said head basketball coach Greg Box. "We were short a player and that of course affected our depth, but these girls can play better than they did tonight, and they're aware of that." Heather Godinich was off in San Antonio showing chickens, and was not available for last Friday night's game. Box, whose team is 12-10 on the season and 6-3 in district, would never use the fact he has a young team as any kind of excuse and said so, but he was able to point out a couple of "youth factors" that might have made a difference with a more seasoned team. "We had a sophomore out of position some of the time," said Box, "but playing behind her, we have a freshman. Now, both of them are going to be good for us but they're still young, eager, and learning right now." Liberty scored first in the contest at the 7:19 mark when Michelle Braxton hit a field goal. Braxton scored again after blocking a shot, taking control of the ball and hitting on a 14-foot jumper. At the six-minute mark of the first period, the Lady Panthers were on top of the Lady Indians, 4-0 and things looked pretty much in control, but Cleveland had other plans. At the 5:23 mark of the first frame, Cleveland's Jessica Perry sank a three-pointer to close the gap, 4-3. An ensuing turnover was followed by an attempted shot by Lady Indian Tiesha Scott, which drew a whistle and a foul. Scott sank the front end, but missed the back end of the two free throws and at the 3:58 mark, the game was all tied up, 4-4. Cleveland got into the fouling act when Latiesha Rone bumped Sherry Nelson. Nelson hit only the back end of her free throws and Liberty was up by one, 5-4. That's when Cleveland seemed to take control. Rone sank a two-pointer to put the Lady Indians up, 6-5. Then, following a rebound at one end of the court, Shakendra Davis made a lay-up to make the score 8-5, Indians. That's when the flurry started to end the first period of play. First, Liberty's Nelson hit a 10-foot jumper to close the gap, 8-7. On their next possession it was Nelson again, but she missed, Alicia Mallet followed up with an offensive rebound and a basket to give Liberty back the lead, 9-8. Nelson intercepted a Cleveland pass and returned it for a lay-up but was fouled. She hit the front end of her free throw attempts as the period ended and Liberty led, 10-8. From then on, it was all Cleveland as they would score 18 points in each of the next two frames and close out the contest with a 20-point fourth period. Meanwhile, the Lady Panthers could only score six, nine, and six points in the final frames, resulting in the 33-point blowout. "We started out playing a bit sloppy, but we finally came around and played well," said head coach Rennie Chaney of the Lady Indians. "The best thing about tonight's win is that we clinched the district title." For the Lady Indians, Tiesha Scott led with 16 points, Latiesha Rone had 12, while Jessica Perry added 11. The top scorer for Liberty was Michelle Braxton with 13, the only player in double digits. "Coach Chaney's team did a good job on Sherry Nelson and Alicia Mallet because they've been averaging 13 and 15 points respectively, and they were held to single digits tonight," said Box. Liberty will close out the regular season at home against Splendora, a team they defeated on the road, while Cleveland will play host to Shepherd ©Houston Community Newspapers Online 2007 One interesting note: In an article about the Cleveland Lady Indians, their coach made a remark about the weakness of the district. In wins over Splendora and Tarkington, the Lady Indians had a rather easy time claiming victory, but Chaney is not getting over zealous with playoff fever. "We have been playing fairly decent in the last couple of games," said the Lady Indians coach. "Hopefully, we will continue to improve while preparing ourselves for the playoffs." "Our district is not as strong as it has been in the past and that has me concerned," Chaney said. "As a result, we are doing some extra things in our practices trying to get ready for the rugged playoff road." ©Houston Community Newspapers Online 2007

Found a few articles about Coldspring. [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] This article was interesting to me because of the free throws made/attempted. Cleveland made only 17 of 41, and Coldspring made 11 of 26. I couldn't believe Cleveland got 41free throw attempts! This last one is from the HCNonline archives: Lady Trojans win two at Willis tournament By: Roy Besch, Advocate Staff 01/10/2007 After playing five games in three days against three schools in a higher classification, the Coldspring Lady Trojans came away from the Willis basketball tournament with a pair of victories. In the tourney opener Dec. 28, the Lady Trojans did not have an answer for the high-octane Class 5A Clear Lake ballclub falling, 98-37. Audrisa Harrison was the Lady Trojans top scorer with 12 points followed by Brittany Washington with seven. Later that same day Coach Doug Keeney's ballclub found the winner's circle with a 58-50 win over Travis. After a 10-10 first quarter tie, the Lady Trojans moved ahead with a 29-23 halftime lead. The Coldspring girls outscored Travis 29-27 in the second half to sew up the victory. Chelsey King paced the win for Coldspring with 15 points while Washington helped out with 14. In Game 3, Class 5A Atascocita slipped past the Lady Trojans, 45-36. Sequoia Holmes and Harrison led the Coldspring offense. The Lady Trojans rebounded in their fourth game, defeating fellow district foe, Splendora by a score of 41-38. Washington was the Lady Trojans leading point producer with 19 while King helped with eight points. Facing their third larger school in the meet, the Lady Trojans bowed out with a 42-35 loss to Class 4A Texas City. The Lady Stingarees built a 17-2 first quarter cushion and kept the pressure on throughout. Shemeika Brown was top scorer for Coldspring with 19 while Breyona Harrison added 5. Afterward Keeney addressed the team's performance against the aggressive and, in most instances, larger competition. "I'm glad we had the opportunity to participate in this tournament," said the Coldspring coach. "I feel that the players learned a lot and will play better against schools in our district as a result." The Coldspring girls will travel to Liberty Friday for a District 22-3A meeting and return to their gym Jan. 16 to host Shepherd. ©Houston Community Newspapers Online 2007
