  1. Lumberton lost a lot from last years team and it showed today. If Lumberton can't line up and run the ball, it will be a long year. Very little speed in the the defensive back field. Dayton looked very good. Bay City this Friday!!
  2. This is the week we have all been counting down to! For all the SETXsports members that have children in school, GOOD LUCK TO THEM! GOOD LUCK to all the young men who will be doing their best every play and the coaches that will be having an ever lasting impact on their lifes in both the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. I have been watching the Bronco Friday Night Lights 2007 DVD over and over. What a season the Bronco fans were treated to last year, hopefully this year the Bronco's season will last one more game. The National Anthem will be played by hundreds of high school bands across the state of Texas in the 7:00 hour this Friday. LET THE SEASON BEGIN To close this post I would like to share some memories I have of growing up in Port Neches during the 70's and the memories I have now of watching the junior high kids I teach grow up as students in Dayton High School. All of us should be very thankful for the coaches and teachers that are responsible for what we see on the field each week. MY TOP TEN FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS MEMORIES! 1. What was the first song I learned as a student in PN-G? CHEROKEE The memories I have of that song being played in front of tens of thousands during the 1970's playoff runs, still gives me goose bumps today. 2. Playing football during the summer as a young kid and wanting to be not Roger Staubach or Tony Dorsett, but Richy Etheridge (the PN-G QB). 3. Being in Texas Stadium in 1977 along with 49,000 plus Plano and PN-G fans. It is still the most attended football game in Texas. 4. The game I remember the most at the Reservation was the 1980 PN-G vs TJ game. Dodge and Duhon prevailed that game 14 to 13, but what a game. I never will forget the thousands of people standing along the fence line. Probably one of the largest crowds to watch a football game at the Reservation. 5. The school wide pep rallies we had when I was an elementary student before the playoff games. They would play Cherokee over and over on the school PA system. The boys would dance around like the Indian Spirit and the girls would do the cheerleader, Indianette, or twirler dance to the song. We were only in third and fourth grade, but we knew the routines at that young of an age. 6. I was going into high school when BISD was forced to integrate, I remember the turmoil of closing down South Park and Hebert and all the upset parents and students. West Brook winning state in their first year was a present from the heavens for the kids and adults of Beaumont. 7. The Marching I. No other band has an ending to their halftime that compares to the Marching I. 8. Being an employee here in Dayton (the first athletic trainer in 1992) and watching what has happened to this community with the success of the high school football program. Some say it is only a football game, but the resulting impact of a successful varsity football program can not be underestimated. Coach Stewart has done more than build a successful over all athletic program here in Dayton, he has helped Dayton ISD become better. 9. My first classroom rule is ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. To here a Bronco player running off the field and as he passes me while I am videoing and says "Always Believe". PRICELESS!!! 10. Finally, last season two big games. When Dayton put up 63 points on my arch rival Bulldogs in Nederland, what a game. If only the Bronco Band could have played Cherokee (just once) it would have been the icing on the cake, and the Bronco victory over Waller in the quarter finals. What an AWEsome finish to the game. You got my 10 all time memories, why don't you share some, either as an adult, student, or athlete. The memories that will be made on Friday Nights this year, is what it all comes down to! GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE TEAMS AND.... ALWAYS BELIEVE!!!
  3. BRONCO STADIUM AUGUST 29 ! Will make ALL the Bronco games. On September 12 (Dayton's 1st open game) I plan on seeing the other AWEsome PURPLE team, PN-G playing Texas City. IT ALL STARTS THIS WEEK!!!
  4. Are you kidding me? Why are you the only one that can't take some lil'ol trash talkn on a public forum. Every time I was on the forum last year all I had to read was that freakn'score from the Dayton/Lumberton game and all the trash talkn'about the loss that Dayton took, just a lil'payback from last year is all, not that I have to explain myself but apparently I have done well in striking a nerve. Gotta'love Texas High School Football. By the way the Lake Travis game wasn't a fluke like the Lumberton game was against Dayton (hitn'that nerve again huh?). Dayton was playing at the top of their game when they played Lake Travis and the BETTER team won and Lake Travis will probably win the state title again this year. Choo Choo ha ha ha ha ha ha.......see ya'll saturday morning again, how was this a fluke? never understood that? so it was only a fluke when we beat every beaumont team, NEDERLAND (11 year playoff streak SNAPPED) oh wait, not to mention.. LAMARQUE. can't it be that our team was better on that night? instead of a fluke.. give it up.. if y'all "win" this scrimmage, it will NOT make up for the fact that we handed ya'll ya'lls only district loss in 2 years! ;D ;D regardless of how you look at it! How was this a fluke.... Dayton is playing with their 3rd string qb, plus has several other starters out with injury. Lumberton playing a healthy Bronco team last year.... We will never know? If.... Only Lumberton could have beaten Waller. But it didn't happen
  5. Talk about a lot of back and forth posts, just for a SCRIMMAGE! All I know is.... There are over a dozen Broncos who were on the field last year at Lumberton that will be on the sideline Saturday morning. Even though this is a scrimmage, the first half will be smash mouth football. Except this time.... AJ won't be easily bottled up in the backfield and Cody Green is 100% Dayton scores at least four touchdowns in the first half with the first string. Saturday morning there is only one place to be... Bronco Stadium
  6. The L Train will roll... The bus will be rolling down the hill into the river bottom around 12:30 PM after the Raiders have been taken out to the woodshed. The first half will feature a mighty Bronco stampede.
  7. There are many players on the Broncos this year who remember their only loss in district the last two years. There are probably several Raiders who want to prove that last year was not a fluke. This game is a scrimmage, but it will be a war in the first half. Any SE Texas high school football fan would really make an effort to see the first half at 10:00 AM Saturday morning.
  8. The three games will be played at different times. Heard this on KSHN. I believe the varsity was starting at 7 PM on Friday
  9. Dayton scores at least 4 times in the first half. Lumberton will be lucky to cross the 50. First half score, Dayton big! Dayton 28 Lumberton 7. Final score Dayton 35 Lumberton 14
  10. Curious. How many points did Green and team score against WOS? Bailey threw and ran for 3 TDs, and 21 points total against WOS last year. I think this was the most points given up by WOS in a game all year. And I think that was in Bailey's first or second start at QB. Green is good no doubt, but Bailey is something special also. Not only did Cody have 270 (I believe the official count was 280 yards) passing, he also ran for at least 50 yards with one TD. If not for a blown block on a play that AJ was rambling down the field, Cody and AJ would have scored 21 points by the middle of the 2nd quarter. Dayton's offense racked up over 300 yards in a half against a very speedy WOS defense. I wouldn't want to be the defensive coordinator responsible for slowing up the Broncos this year. I doubt there is a d back in this area that can shut down AJ, and if you double team AJ, the Broncos still have other threats.
  11. Just look at the Dayton Bronco highlights from last year.... Good luck to Kirby, but against a speedy defense that can jam the receivers, Kirby will have difficulties.
  12. Who was happiest about Dayton being moved into a new district.... The Nederland Bulldogs. Why.... Now they only have to get beat by one PURPLE AND WHITE team! PN-G takes out the Dogs this year. Just curious.... Would the Bulldogs have saved those 9 TOUCHDOWN highlights from the Dayton game last year? Sure was AWEsome seeing all those touchdowns again on the new jumbotron ;-) Seriously... GOOD LUCK TO BOTH TEAMS! Would love to see both mid county teams in the playoffs.
  13. Glad your back Michael!!! Can't wait to compare our weekly predictions.
  14. The Dayton defense did not give up 21 points. One touchdown was a legit offensive score, one TD was done by the defense, and the other was from a fumble recovered at the 4 yard line. I don't think in the first half that WOS had a drive where they had three successive first downs. Dayton still has a lot of overall speed on defense. Was very interesting seeing how WOS did not double up on AJ. They played zone all night and Cody was able to find AJ all night. WOS has some excellent athletes. Dayton looked very impressive for their first scrimmage. Can't wait till Bay City comes a calling on the 29th. LET FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS BEGIN!!!
  15. Who would have won the rematch..... Who did Lumberton lose to that ended their season? Answer Waller Who did Dayton beat the following week? Answer Waller IMO Lumberton is very lucky their wasn't a rematch. Might have turned out worse than the 2006 score, unless.... There was a secret meeting before the game to "modify" the rules ;-)
  16. GREAT NEWS FOR BRONCO FANS! Toups Graphics has purchased a Canon XH A1 HD camcorder to capture the highlights and action of this years Dayton Broncos! Highlights will be in wide screen and the still images from the video will have four times the number of pixels! More information on the highlights coming soon. The Toups Graphics Friday Night Lights web page has been updated! Go to... [Hidden Content] Mr. Toups had a wonderful summer as Camp Cayuga's photographer in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania and is eager to begin another season capturing the magic and the memories of Dayton Bronco Football. Good luck to all the teams this year. For week zero, Toups Graphics will offer his "FEARLESS PREDICTIONS" on the following games. Bay City vs Dayton PN-G vs Barbers Hill Ozen vs Westbrook Central vs PA Memorial Lumberton vs Hamshire-Fannett WO-Stark vs Nederland Kelly vs Vidor Stay tuned to find out who will win in the first week of the season.
  17. The September 12,PNG vs Texas City game will be played at PA Memorial Stadium? Dayton is off that week, will probably check out my other favorite PURPLE team! Can someone confirm the September 12 game location.
  18. Great article! I can't wait to get home. I have been working as a summer camp photographer all summer. Not to make any of you jealous, but it has only been over 90 degrees up here in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania one time all summer! Hopefully I won't melt like an ice cube when I get back home. Good luck to all the high school athletes and the coaches.
  19. WAY TO GO AJ!!!! Remember.... ALWAYS BELIEVE!
  20. What kind of size & speed does Dayton have? The kind you win games with. the kind that is called football speed not track speed no watch on the sidelines in dayton agree.... there is a huge difference in football speed and track speed. I can't wait to watch the stampeding Broncos.
  21. PN-G, Nederland, even Dayton (although they did build a parking lot behind the new home side), all of these stadiums were built with using the school parking facilities in mind, these stadiums were built decades ago, and the builders probably did not envision the need for parking, basically the parking is "neighborhood" parking. To me it really isn't a big deal if you have to park a good ways from the stadium, it means you are at an AWEsome game!
  22. Dayton scores at least 6 TD's in this game.
  23. The Golden Triangle is an area of extreme Southeast Texas near the Louisiana border. The "triangle" is formed by Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange, which are the largest cities in the area. The "golden" refers to the wealth that came from the Spindletop oil strike near Beaumont in 1901. In an attempt to distance the area from the petrochemical industry, some area interests attempted to rename the Golden Triangle the "Triplex." This name change did not catch on, and area residents still refer to it as the Golden Triangle. Some residents of the Golden Triangle do not refer to the Greater Houston area as being part of Southeast Texas and place the western boundary of the region roughly at the Trinity River. The area holds the annual South Texas State Fair in Beaumont. If I'm not mistaken, Dayton and BH is on the Western side of the Trinity. It's good to see that I'm not the only one that may have been baffled by this. Good post. I, too, do not necessarily consider Houston as SE Texas. I consider them as the Houston area!!! LOL Would probably be a wise decision to include the districts that are involved with the "Golden Triangle" in the first round of the playoffs. Basically Dayton and Barbers Hill are in the greater Houston area, but are paired with the SE Texas region in the playoff system. Also..... Don't forget about Livingston, since they are now considered in the SE Texas district.
