  1. Dayton has three losses which pretty much eliminates a high ranking. It will be impressive to see Dayton win out knocking out two top 25 teams. That is an excellent way to enter the playoffs. If Dayton pulls this off, you can certainly say they "earned" it the hard way! CONGRATS TO NEDERLAND AND PN-G ON THE RANKINGS!!! Hopefully one team in this district will make it out of this region. We haven't had a 4A team in years get past the Houston districts.
  2. For your reading "enjoyment"... GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE TEAMS THIS WEEK! For the players at LC-M, Central, Ozen, and Vidor, two games are left. Make every play and every moment something you will treasure. What a great two weeks it will be watching Lumberton, Dayton, Nederland, and PN-G fight for the three playoff places. Talk about the "agony of defeat" to the team that doesn't make it. My weekly previews can also be read at... [Hidden Content] DISTRICT 22-4A WEEK 6 TOUPS GRAPHICS PREVIEWS ! Toups Graphics has accurately predicted the winners for the last two weeks. Can he go for the hat trick and get three weeks in a row? The weekly previews follow. GAME OF THE WEEK DAYTON AT NEDERLAND This is practically a must win for the Broncos. Dayton has steam rolled the competition since the loss to the Raiders. Since the loss to Lumberton they have outscored the competition 142 to 13. The Bulldogs have already lost to one purple and white team on their homefield. You know the last thing Nederland wants to do is to lose their only two games to purple and white teams. Both teams run very similare offenses. The difference in this game will probably come down to perfomance in the red zone. Here the defenses can better contain the passing game. The key stat has to be points allowed in district. Dayton has allowed only 21 points while Nederland has allowed 85 points. That stat isn't even close. Who will win? Check back Thursday for.... TOUPS GRAPHICS FEARLESS PREDICTION. CENTRAL AT PN-G How the tables have turned on the Jaguars. Once thought at the beginning of the season to be the favorite to win district their playoff hopes have been dashed with losses to Lumberton, Nederland, and last week Dayton. Now they travel to the Reservation to face the 1st place Indians. This will be the last game played at what is now the current Reservation. Talk about the memories that the long time PN-G fans will have at this game. Who will win this last game at the Reservation? Check back Thursday for.... TOUPS GRAPHICS FEARLESS PREDICTION LUMBERTON AT LC-M What has happened to the Bears. They are still searching for their first district win. This will be the last home game for the LC-M seniors. Can LC-M finally break into the win column? Next week for Lumberton will be huge. Win next week and they are in the playoffs. Will they look past LC-M. A loss here is devasting for the Raiders. Who will win? Check back Thursday for.... TOUPS GRAPHICS FEARLESS PREDICTION VIDOR AT OZEN Vidor has come so close the last two weeks to getting a win. Now the Pirates sail their water logged ship into Cardinal Stadium to face the Panthers. Ozen is playing much better since getting shut out by Dayton. Will the Pirates get their first win, or will Ozen get their second win. What will happen? Check back Thursday for... TOUPS GRAPHICS FEARLESS PREDICTION TOUPS GRAPHICS HAS A 32 AND 12 PREDICTION RECORD
  3. That probably buys equipment for most of the other sports. It is also a lot more than other schools even dream of netting just on season ticket sales.
  4. Any of the four teams can win out, but it just can't happen with head to head competition. Obviously Nederland and Dayton have the harder road to go down. PN-G can lose this week and still have a very good shot at going. Lumberton should win against LC-M but there season is most likely over if they lose to Nederland. If Dayton does get by Nederland, I wouldn't want to be Lumberton with the task of having to beat Nederland in what will virtually be an elimination game. What an exciting week of action it will be.
  5. NO.... If Dayton loses to Nederland then yes, if Dayton wins and then Nederland beats Lumberton, Lumberton is out. Lumberton can lose this week and win next week and be in. For Lumberton it really comes down to next week. Beat Nederland in Lumberton and are in. This week you really need to be Bulldog fans. A Nederland win will pretty much end all things.
  6. A Dayton loss to Nederland eliminates Dayton in any tie breaker between Dayton and either or, or both Nederland and Lumberton. In your case, Lumberton is #3.
  7. At the junior high games, I have seen both ways being used... Seems to me I would rather have one official in each backfield with one on a sideline, but I can see where having both sidelines covered with the other official in the offensive background be good also. It is a bad situation, kind of like solo reffing a basketball game.
  8. It is a very big possibility that either Dayton's or Nederland's streak will be ended over the next two weeks. Will be interesting...
  9. To me that just seems like so much to do in about 9 months. Levelling the whole stadium, and preparing the ground will take a very long time. Then on top of that, they are demolishing a wing of the highschool. If the end result turns out to be any where near what the pictures look like, it will be a sight to see.
  10. Not true for PN-G. The revenue generated from the 1970's playoffs helped fund the major renovations at the high school. Nederland is also probably generating a large revenue from it's home football games. Nederland and PN-G probably have a season ticket base of 3,000 to 4,000. At an average of $5 a seat (not sure of the numbers) that is $15,000 to $20,000 a game, five home games would be about $75,000 to $100,000 just in season ticket sales. Although not enough to fund the entire football progam, that is a lot of extra revenue for the school.
  11. Just curious.... Why do so many have Barbers Hill going into 22-4 and Dayton going back into 21-4A. Wouldn't they leave 22-4A the same? Seems like Barbers Hill was perfectly happy when they were put into 21-4A. Dayton wasn't so happy about going into 22-4A, but I think we have made the best of it.
  12. Junior High, there should be an extreme effort to get everyone in the game. Freshmen, same thing. JV - a good coach will get as many of the players in as possible. Varsity - It should be a privilege and an honor just to be suited up and on the field. When I went to school we had over 12 seniors who really never played, but they took pride in being on the "scout team" in practice. The Varsity Coach could be fired on losses. He needs to play the best possible players down to the end.
  13. This is over if Nederland wins Friday. If Dayton goes into the Dog Pound and pulls out a victory then it goes to the Nederland - Lumberton game. That will game will be huge! Lumberton has homefield advantage, which could be the difference. However... I just don't see Nederland losing two in a row to end the season. How heartbreaking will it be for the Lumberton team to only lose twice and not go to the playoffs. Whatever way that game goes, the thrill of victory and agony of defeat will be there. I got to say Lumberton gets ecked out by Nederland in the last game. Dayton #1 PN-G #2 Nederland #3
  14. As a Lamar alumnus... I will be getting season tickets. Wish I could make more basketball games. It will be a very good day in the Golden Triangle when Lamar kicks off in a football game on a Saturday evening. This will give dozens and dozens of kids a chance to go to Lamar with scholarship help. It's just not the football team, but also the cheerleaders and band too. Boy howdy... Getting the right man to coach this team. This will be one of the largest decision that Lamar will have to make. Whoever they pick, I hope he can galvanize the community behind him. We need to all remember that this part of the state is a high school football fan base. I don't know how the hockey team is faring, but the Golden Gators didn't make it, Lamar Football continually failed to fill up half the stands. Hopefully things will be different this time around. For the Cardinals to succeed they will need to win and quick.
  15. Talk about the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. Both are visible at the end of the video.
  16. Saw this on the news.... There were 14 laterals. What is more remarkable... This play or the Cal vs Stanford game with the TD running into the band???
  17. This will be the last game at the now "existing" Reservation. I believe the stadium was expanded in 76 or 77 that made the home side seat about 8,000 and added the end zone section, which was the student section when I was in school. Just curious.... Will the stadium be completely levelled or will they just add to the current bleachers? Looks like from the pictures that the current shape of the bleachers are unchanged. In any case.... What are some of your memories at the Reservation. I have three, two bad and one good. Bad Memory #1 The TJ PN-G game in 1980. Probably the largest crowd in the history of the stadium. The fence on the south side of the field used to be right behind the end zone line. I was seating on the wooden rail that seperated the band. There were so many people standing you couldn't see the track! At least 16,000 were there. Talk about a classic game. PN-G scores late to make it 13 to 14. They went for two and the QB was stuffed on the option. That was Etheridge's last good quality team. If TJ loses that game, Dodge and Duhon probably don't make it to the playoffs. Bad Memory #2 1984 PN-G versus Nederland. Of all the years for the 19 year streak to end, it had to be my senior year. Watching the Bulldogs celebrate on our field was just awful. Gut wrenching knowing that the first time in our entire lifes, Nederland finally beat PN-G. Later on at Lamar I became quality friends with some of the Bulldogs. Life goes on. Looking back, it was a special night. Every year the Bulldogs started the season with a huge gorilla on their back, beat PN-G. That night the gorilla was buried forever. I doubt neither PN-G or Nederland ever get a streak that long again. Now then... GOOD MEMORY! Same year as the Nederland loss, the last game of the year we beat TJ. First time in years that PN-G beat TJ. That was really AWEsome to end the season with a win over a big rival. They say PN-G has a special spirit. The Reservation is the "resting spot" of that spirit. I hope Dayton is still in 22-4A next year, and I hope Dayton gets to play at the new Reservation. Not only will the Reservation be one of the greatest places to play, it will also be the Taj Majal of ALL stadiums East of the Trinity. Does any one else want to share some memories of games from the Reservation? I wish I could be old enough to remember all the games from the 1974 to 1977 streak of going undefeated in district, or have the memories of seeing Little Joe play. Knowing that this is the last game in the current stadium, I just don't see any way that Central wins this one. PN-G will be playing for a much larger cause in this game. Central could get buried by the tide of emotion and momentum.
  18. I don't think under any scenario that a Nederland loss eliminates the Dogs. If the Bulldogs beat Lumberton in the last game they are in. For Dayton... If they get tripped up and PN-G wins, Dayton is out. Week 10 would be meaningless except for the seeding of #2 and #3 since PN-G will be Division I. My early "mojo" is telling me the team that wins the turnover battles wins this game. I don't see Nederland scoring at will on the Bronco defense unless they get good field position from turnovers. This should be a fantastic game. Worth the price of admission! Can't wait to see the new score board!
  19. Lets look at why West Brook was formed.... Basically Beaumont ISD was segregated (in the 1980's!!) by the Federal Government. I was only 15 at the time, but I remember the parents having to pick ping pong balls to figure out where there kids would go to elementary school. West Brook was formed to force BISD to integrate Hebert with Forest Park and South Park. Alex Durley was one of these AWEsome individuals to be able to bind the school together and maintain the discipline of the athletes under him. I went to Lamar with a student from West Brook who graduated that year, and he had some great memories of his senior year. BISD should still be counting their blessings for what Alex Durley, and his athletes did. If West Brook would have not succeeded so soon, it would have been an ugly situation. Winning state the first year West Brook was in existence bonded the students of West Brook and helped the school gel. Lets not forget what French did a few years later. My main point is that schools should not be shut down just to consolidate athletic talent.
  20. For all the people out there dreaming about mergers to create super schools. This is one of the DUMBEST ideas that can be conceived! Just because you merge all the talent into one school, it doesn't gaurantee success. Especially in school districts like Beaumont and Port Arthur. People just don't realize all the politics above the head coach that goes on. Then on top of that, the kids have no identity with the school, at least for years. It would take a very very special coach who can not only maintain the discipline of ALL the athletes from 9th grade to 12th grade, but also a political "genius" to get the backing of all the people above him. It will take quite a while to develop a consistent winning team in Port Arthur.
  21. Dayton is really in a must win this week. A Dayton loss and a PN-G win eliminates the Broncos
  22. Even though Crosby beat PN-G earlier this year... I still see the three teams from 22-4A (who ever they are) sweeping 21-4A. Don't know about the 2nd round. Depends who is #2 and #3 and who they are matched up with.
  23. According to tvc184.... If it is a 3 way tie with PN-G, Dayton, and Lumberton..... The point spread doesn't matter.... PN-G is automatically division 1 champs. Lumberton beat Dayton so they get the #2 seed and Dayton is #3... IF..... You went on points.... If Dayton beats PN-G then they win the point spread and are District Champs. PN-G has the largest enrollment so they go division I. Lumberton would be third in the point spread so they would be the second seed in the playoffs.... To me.... The point spread should go first to "crown" the district champs. Then the enrollment counts to figure out who is division I. Both scenarios don't effect PN-G's placement... But... In one scenario Lumberton is #3 seed and in the other Dayton is the #3 seed...
  24. MATH GENIUS!!! As a math theacher... WOS87... YOU ARE THE MAN!!! This weeks game for Dayton is practically a must win for the Broncos. A Bronco loss and an Indian win will eliminate the Broncos. Nederland will still have life even if they lose. If Nederland beats Lumberton then Nederland "probably" makes the playoffs.
