  1. Does anyone know the consequences of a positive test???
  2. Although this law represents the sad state of our society, it is needed. Like previously stated, I also wish we had more funds to randomly test. Using steriods in your teen years is not only stupid it does severe damage to a young man's growing body, and if any coach is a willing part in making their athletes do this, they should be banned for life from coaching in this state.
  3. Last years biggest ending in 22 4A had to have been the Central Dayton game. Dayton blocking Central's game tieing PAT was huge, and it resulted in the one point victory.
  4. You guys on this site have NO SENSE of history of high school football in this area. In the early 70's this was the football capitol of the world with many players in the NFL coming from the Beaumont area. Look at all the state championship appearances from this area in the 70's and early 80's. Almost every other year the district champ from this area made it to state. Not the case now... As for me... The 1980 TJ PNG game at the reservation is tops... TJ won 14 - 13. 16,000 at the Reservation. With only one team making the playoffs this was a monstrous game. If TJ losses that game, the legacy of Dodge may not happen... Also... I wasn't at the game, but in 1978 when Vidor finally ended PNG's 4 year streak of not lossing a district game, that had to be huge.... The 4 year undefeated streak in our district I think is an all time record.. During my senior year (not a good game for PNG fans)... In 1984 Nederland finally ended their 19 year lossing drought against PNG. For Nederland fans this should be close to #1. Pretty sad for a PNG grad that my top three are all PNG losses...
  5. Winning year in and year out starts with a great coach getting 110% out of his athletes. A good coach may win a state championship, but a great coach develops a sense of tradition in the athletic program that lasts long after he is gone. The kids are not only playing for their team, they are playing for a greater cause (their community). Failure to succeed is not just a loss for the team it is a loss for the community they represent. This tradition (if done correctly) is started in the elementaries where the kids are encouraged to idolize their varsity players (growing up in PNG, when we played street football, we didn't want to be NFL qb's or college qb's we wanted to be Danny Etheridge or whoever the PNG qb was). The kids grow up desiring to be their hero while playing on Friday night. If this is done correctly you can win the game with half the talent... Go back and look at the videos of the PNG dynasty from the 70's. Their wasn't many games in that dynasty where the talent at PNG dominated, but they won through execution and playing for community pride (having 20,000 fans in the stands helps out too...) Tradition is the key to winning year in and year out, and to have tradition you must have coaches who understand that it is not about the team, it is about the community and city they represent. THIS IS WHAT MAKES HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL IN TEXAS DIFFERENT.
  6. Very informative thread.... One year Lumberton will get in... Just don't think it will be this one...
  7. We will all find out how "fast" Lumberton is after their first district game (when Dayton visits)... My gut instincts now are..... The Raiders will be chasing down Broncos all night.... Don't think the Raiders have enough "speed" to compete with Dayton or Central, but they may squeek into third.... The race for third place this year should be as interesting as last year....
  8. ain't gonna happen... Maybe PNG squeks in... This could be a list for 6th 7th and 8th place...
  9. Was telling a friend about the TJ - PNG game in 1980 at the Reservation. That was TJ's state finalist team that featured Dodge and Duhon... We all know what happened to Dodge, but does anyone know what happened to Duhon (wasn't he the top receiver???)... By the way... That game was probably one of the greatest games played in SE Texas... There must have been over 16,000 at the Reservation...
  10. When will the realignment issue meeting be??? Isn't it this February??? What date or month will the new districts be announced???
  11. I think you will take back that quote after Dayton crushes Lumberton in the first district game and Green is responsible for over 300 to 400 yards of offense. Dejohn my be a great qb, but he doesn't have near the "weapons" Green will have to utilize, nor is he going to be the running threat like Green will be in the Dayton offensive scheme. There will be many defensive coordinators this year losing sleep at night trying to figure out a way to slow down the Bronco's offense. There are way to many weapons at RB and WR to stop just one. Look for Dayton to average over 30 points in district again, and Green will be a huge part of the point production. A Memorial Day prediction that I will requote on Veteran's Day when the season is over... Cody Green District Offensive MVP
  12. Dayton District Record 7-0 49 Points allowed / Avg. 7 269 Points scored / Avg. 38.42 With those stats and basically all their "weapons" back plus some more new talent, and most are not picking Dayton #1???? Dayton will EASILY be the predistrict favorite #1 in the magazines and football literature. Only one team played them close (Central) and that game this year will be at Bronco stadium were a sloppy wet field with 4" high sod won't be a factor. Top three... 1. Dayton - should win the district championship, but going undefeated two years in a row will be a very impressive accomplishment 2. Central - On paper they should be #2. Great athletes with great coaching. The way they came back after being down by 2 TD's against Dayton last year was impressive. Third is too close to call... 3A - Nederland - Should have the advantage for the third spot. 3B - PNG - If PNG gets through LCM at the Reservation then pulls out a victory the next week at Bulldog stadium... They will be the front runners for the third spot. Having to play Dayton in the last game will not be easy if they need a win. 3C - LCM - Can they pull off another big win against PNG? This early district game will make or break LCM's season. Unfortunately it is at the Reservation. Ozen may have talent, but that won't get you anywhere if they aren't led in the right direction. Lumberton - Not enough speed to compete with Dayton and Central, could be a sleeper given a couple of upsets. Vidor - Not enough speed to compete with Dayton and Central, could be a sleeper given a couple of upsets.
  13. That is correct... Cody didn't play at all in the WOS game and only half of the other 2 pre district games. He was also pulled in the 4th quarted in many district games because Dayton was so far ahead, really, Dayton didn't throw much in the 2nd half of most of their district games. If you want to compare quarterbacks compare the SCORES of the games... Cody was responsible for twice or three times as many points. If picking a fantasy football team out of 22 4A, Cody would easily be my first pick.
  14. Come on Cards!!! Rally late and pull away!!!
  15. District 22 4A has practically swept their first round opponents for YEARS!!! Even when Dayton was not in 22 4A we were out of the playoffs in the first round due to the higher level of competition in 22 4A. Look for 22 4A to sweep the first round of the playoffs again and send the other district home early.
  16. I agree about Green, he is not a 10, at least not yet... Not only does Cody have athletic ability, but he also has charisma, a level head, is an excellent student, and has great leadership qualities. He will make everyone around him play better. When all is said and done in two years, I think he will be a 10. Even next year as a junior, he should be a cinch as first team all district quarterback.
  17. Next game and opponent??? Is this a single elimination or double elimination???
  18. The Dogs will be no match for the Broncos this year... I wonder how many of the Bronco highlights they will show on their new jumbotron. ;D I have a great feeling that the Bulldogs will be chasing Broncos all over the field. As a PNG grad... There isn't any prettier sight than seeing the Bulldogs get beat by a team wearing purple I wish Dayton had such a big rival like PNG and Nederland... The kids over here really don't know what a game like that is... Of course the Bronco Bulldog game is a long way off... Can't wait till the games start up...
  19. Hopefully PNG or Nederland will suprise one of their opponents and maybe even both. Would think if we had "Vegas Odds" both PNG and Nederland would be the underdogs, but you never know till you play the game.
  20. Spring game is tomorrow night!!!! Sounds like the kids are going to have a lot of fun during the game...
  21. Cody Green from Dayton, I anticipate an unbelievable year from him. If they had highschool fantasy football , he would be my 1st pick of any player east of Houston.
  22. Would like to add... The 7th grade bunch is the best of BH has had in a long time... Dayton's 8th graders didn't have much trouble with BH in football, but the 7th grade games were much closer. There are some quality athletes in that 7th grade bunch. The key for BH is to build on the success of the talent loaded senior bunch that just graduated. Tradition is more than packing the stands it is the desire and will of the athletes replacing their peers to succeed even more than they did. If this will and desire is strong enough, you can go a long way without as much talent. The coaches at BH should use the success of the great group of athletes that just graduated to motivate their next bunch. I strongly think BH will be a contender in their district and.... to make the playoffs.
