***Update on Senate Bill 1943***
PURPLE 4EVER replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Thanks for the update tvc184 -
Having been involved with the junior high kids for the last decade at Dayton, there has never been 2 back to back classes as "loaded" as the current sophmores and juniors. They are very deep in the skills positions as well as the line. Both classes have great overall speed. When the sophmores and juniors were in 7th and 8th all teams were undefeated, which included sweeping La Marque and beating Barbers Hill teams by a cummulative score (7th a and b 8th a and of 96 to 13. The first game will be huge against WOS. Hopefully the Broncos can win district again, but going undefeated in that district back to back is a HUGE task. I think the Broncos will be in the states top 10 rankings going into district (if they can get past WOS in the first game). The top three games to circle on the calendar are... 1. WOS. Should be one of the games of the year in SE Texas. What a way to start the season!!! 2. Central - The Jaguars come to Bronco Stadium trying to redeem their 1 point loss from last year. From all indications this game could be for the district championship. Also (with the new home side at Bronco stadium) will probably be the largest ever attended high school football game in Liberty county history. 3. PNG - If PNG is still in the playoff race the attendance at this game will easily surpass the Central game. Look for a SRO crowd at Bronco stadium and a college atmosphere in the season finale. From the beginning to the end it should be an AWEsome season for the Broncos!!! TALK ABOUT FOOTBALL WITHDRAWAL!!!! Let August get here so Football can kick off!!!!

Everyone is happy about PNG how about Nederland?
PURPLE 4EVER replied to fbplayer999's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
People here are talking about how run down PNG and Nederland's stadium are... These young people have NO IDEA of the history that has taken place in those two fields, of the classic games from the 60's and 70's. You don't build tradition by a shiny new stadium that seats less than 5,000. Although there may be better looking stadiums than the Reservation or Bulldog Stadium, few seat more, and none have the history or tradition that is found in those stadiums. We can talk all day about whose stadiums look nicer, but in the end... No game in this part of the state (east of the Brazos) can even come close to matching a PNG vs Nederland game played at either the Reservation or Bulldog stadium. Granted, Silsbee's stadium is top notch, Galena Park and Stallworth stadium's have the jumbotron, but it just can't match the "atmosphere" found in the midcounty stadiums. I would much rather go see a football game at a packed out Reservation or Bulldog stadium rather than a game in a less than half filled stadium at the nicer fields. -
Just drove by Silsbee's field the other day and it is nice, but nothing beats the atmposphere found at the Reservation on a Friday Night.

I think one of the games of the year for south east texas is when Central goes to Bronco stadium. The winner should be in the drivers seat for the district championship. It will also probably be the largest attended football game ever held in Liberty county. Should be a packed stadium of over 8,000 there. Friday Night Lights with ELECTRICITY!!!

Dayton Mile Relay Disqualified
PURPLE 4EVER replied to bheagle07's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
People, please!!! In your life you will experience the "thrill of victory and the agony of defeat". A champion will remain modest in victory and in defeat will blame no others but his/herself. Sometimes the agony of defeat stings so bad it hurts, even when it comes from a bad call or just a poor performance. From looking at the video from the regional meet, if you have to go frame by frame to see "an infraction" then obviously an official in real time will not see it. Both runners never broke stride till the baton was dropped (however it was dropped, kicked out or whatever). Dayton went to Austin and got DQed. Dayton should not only feel like that they let their school and coaches down, but also this entire region (including Barbers Hill) whom they were representing. The four runners from Dayton should be proud they got to Austin, but I know they are experiencing the "agony of defeat". If their coaches and parents confront this setback correctly, then the runners will learn from this and become better athletes, by not making excuses or blaming others with "video tape evidence", but by realising what they did wrong. Remember... Champions adapt and overcome, losers make excuses. Congrats to the Dayton runners on a great season, and good luck to Barbers Hill and their baseball team! -

Southlake Carroll Season Tickets Going for $660
PURPLE 4EVER replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Tradition is the key word... Going to highschool at PNG in the 1980's the football team wanted to be in the playoffs so badly. There were several reasons for this, but for me it was to give the kids in elementary the same experience we had watching Doug Etheridge lead the Indians into the dome and playing in front of thousands and thousands. This is where you build the tradition with the elementary kids seeing their future highschool winning with the full communities backing. By failing in 1980 (by losing to TJ's Dodge and Duhon team) and then in 1983 (losing to Westbrook & then the heartbreaker to TJ at the end) we felt like we let the whole community down, not just us and the coaches. I was so glad that PNG finally made it to a state title game again in the 90's, and darn right, I was in the crowd. In the 1970's there were several games that PNG did not have the speed or the talent to even be on the field with the opposition, but the tradition of winning and playing for community pride were enough to put us over the top. A good coach can win a state championship or two, but a great coach builds the tradition in the program that will last well after he leaves. -
Dayton Stands And Seating Capacity Formula...
PURPLE 4EVER replied to PURPLE 4EVER's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
thanks texasbob... I am a math teacher and appreciate the more "accurate" estimate. One of my activities is to show pictures of football stadiums and have the 8th graders calculate the maximum capacity. -
In what order no one will ever know??? I know.... They were 2nd best by 0.05 seconds. If there 1st leg to 2nd leg hand off were better, they would have won.

There is a lot of talent in the junior and sophmore class (next years juniors and seniors). He may be looking at more than just one...

Southlake Carroll Season Tickets Going for $660
PURPLE 4EVER replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
One word... UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I have a summer camp job in the northeast, the counselors (ages 20 to 25) are floored when they learn that they sell season tickets to highschool games, and going at $165 a pop at South Lake, that is just unbelievable. I guess it saves them from raising property taxes to high LOL!!!! -
What is the big deal!!! Barbers Hill OBVIOUSLY dropped the baton!!! No infraction or foul is obvious from the video!! Way to go Dayton. GOOD LUCK SATURDAY!!!! ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!!!

Your teams biggest rival and what created the rivalry?
PURPLE 4EVER replied to STINGER's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Thinking of the rivalries I have been involved with... It is ashame that so many schools have been closed... Although PNG vs Nederland is the granddaddy of all rivalries, the PNG TJ game was a close 2nd, and it is no more. I have also heard of the PNG Lincoln games of old with Little Joe Washington running wild. It ashame BCP, French, Hebert, Forest Park, South Park, SFA and many more aren't around. Just think of all the tradition and rivalries that were ended when those schools closed. -
Dayton Stands And Seating Capacity Formula...
PURPLE 4EVER replied to PURPLE 4EVER's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
People often question about the expenditures in athletic facilities, but in reality it is the only real financial generating structure that a school district has. Just think of the $$$ PNG rakes in on a home game that is sold out. This is a very nice stadium in the process of being constructed and the opposing teams won't be dissapointed when they visit Bronco Stadium. -
Dayton Stands And Seating Capacity Formula...
PURPLE 4EVER replied to PURPLE 4EVER's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I have heard "inklings" about a huge bond issue at PNG. Graduating from there, I still think that the "Reservation" is the "Taj Majal" of football stadiums in this part of the state. There may be "better" looking stadiums elsewhere, but the history of what has occurred on that field and the huge home side is one of a kind. I have been told from opposing teams that the pregame walk into the field from the gym is one of the most intimidating parts of the game. Do you know when construction will start and when it is expected to be completed. -
central changes to a new offense set
PURPLE 4EVER replied to alceues's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The quarterback will make or break this offense. You really need to have a high percentages of completions for this too work and the qb had better be able to read blitzes from all directions. Obviously the o line had better be able not to be burned one on one or the qb will be on his back all night. -
Top 10 SE Texas Teams For 07..Rank Them!!
PURPLE 4EVER replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Looking at all the polls... Next year in week 1 the big game of Dayton vs WOS should be a dandy!!! Next year's juniors and seniors at Dayton are AWEsome!!! I go to all the junior high games, when they were 7th and 8th graders they beat Barbers Hill by a cummulative score (7th A & B and 8th A & of 95 to 13 and SWEPT La Marque!!! Of all the talent that has come through Dayton, I believe the best two back to back years will be the juniors and seniors next year. Look for the Broncos to "stampede" the competition next year! -
