  1. Football won't be near impacted like basketball and baseball. I think the larger cities will really feel the affect of this. Can you imagine the "all Houston" team being recruited and going to ONE private school. There is so much unknown also... Will they have to follow the academic guidelines of the UIL. Will the kids have to take and pass the TAKS test. Next years 8th graders must pass math and reading TAKS to go to high school. I smell rat poison all over this issue. There is no way the UIL will be able to regulate the "illegal" recruiting and the academic elgibility that is bound to occur with these private schools.
  2. Read this on khou.com "INDIANAPOLIS -- College basketball players might want to start working on longer shots. The new three point shot will be 20 feet 9 inches away from the basket. Two decades after adding the 3-point line, the NCAA men's basketball rules committee approved a measure Thursday that will move the line back one foot -- from 19 feet, 9 inches to 20 feet, 9 inches. If approved by the playing rules oversight committee on May 25, it would mark the first major change to 3-pointers since their adoption. The change would not take place until November 2008. The move comes after years of debate about extending the line. Rules committee chairman Larry Keating said two proposals were considered. The other would have moved the line to 20 feet, 6 inches, the same distance as international 3-pointers. Both are shorter than the NBA line, which ranges from 23 feet, 9 inches at the top of the key to 22 feet at its nearest point in the baseline corners. "We made it a point to come up with a distance that was correct for us and that didn't necessarily mimic the international line," Keating said. The women's basketball rules committee did not adopt the change and will keep the 3-point line at 19 feet, 9 inches." Just wondering.... If they change the NCAA 3 point line, won't that change it also in Texas high school sports??? Could be pretty confusing with 3 point lines for girls and boys both on the court at the same time.
  3. People this is enough. For those who are affected badly by this situation... Through my years as an athlete, coach, and fan I have learned this very very important lesson. Bad things happening to you in sports and it is part of the game. Read about Mary Decker and Zola Budd. Do you think Mary Decker watches the "video" of her getting cut off and losing her chance at the OLYMPIC medal! It's part of life. You can do one of 2 things. Keep trying to protest (to no avail) and live your life with hate and envy with this incident or... You can learn from it and make yourself a better human being. Remember this... When faced with defeat a Champion will try to figure out how to improve and become better. a Loser will make excuses and continually blame others for their failures. Be a champion and work harder to become a better person. Don't let this fester inside and make you a miserable person.
  4. Three is the max. Remember in every calculation, with the first game starting Labor Day weekend you must finish the playoffs by CHRISTmas. With a 10 week season, I think you can only have 5 (maybe 6) rounds. I think 2 teams would be idea, but I don't mind 3. Also (although it is a $$$ thing for the UIL) it is really about the kids. 3 teams in the playoffs equals more athletes being able to brag at the 20 year reunioun that they made the playoffs. Depending on your district, three teams may really deserve a shot at the playoffs.
  5. Will the games be on Friday evening or Saturday afternoon???
  6. Although not in the prime of my youth, the most strenous yet best exercise I have done is hopping up hills or stands on one foot. Nothing increases your heart rate like this and it is excellent way to increase your speed. If your knees start hurting lay off of this.
  7. I was in 2nd through 5th grade during the PNG state playoff runs in the 1970's... No school has come close to putting fans in the stands as PNG did in the Etheridge dynasty. I was there in the 1977 state championship game in Dallas along with 49,500 others. Although very young, those games in the Astrodome are among the greatest memories of my childhood. I don't know of many schools that teach the kids the high school fight song before the pledge of allegiance or national anthem. You are raised to be an Indian at PNG and your blood is purple forever. In my opinion in this part of the state, nothing beats a Friday night game at PNG. I am so glad the kids in Dayton finally got to play there last year. To play a game in a stadium that has almost 8,000 people on the other side is just AWEsome. In my opinion Permian, Plano, and PNG are the top three.
  8. PNG takes next two. The bats will come to life. Scalp Em Indians Scalp Em!!!
  9. PJ and Joe... Never forget the first rule of a really cool 8th grade math teacher. ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!! Good luck and make Dayton proud!!!
  10. For everyone that has ran track from junior high to high school. I don't think you can find one person who hasn't been "cut off" going into a curve. I had it happen to me more than once and I know it cost me some seconds on my time. What did I learn... If you don't want to get cut off, then speed up and don't let the guy pass you. What did my coach tell me... Champions adapt and overcome Losers make excuses My coach wouldn't even let me tell him that I got cut off, he kept stressing to me to that to become better you can't spend your time making excuses. Go back and look at what Zola Budd did in the 1984 Olympics... She cut off Mary Decker even worse than what happened last week and NO FOUL was called!!! Google Mary Decker and Zola Bud and read about it!!! Getting cut off is part of track. GOOD LUCK DAYTON BRONCOS IN THE STATE MEET!!!! Bring back the title!!!
  11. Not only does he excel athletically, he is also a great student.
  12. For inquiring minds.... To find out "about" how many people a stadium can hold... Every yard of stands can seat about 2 people. So... The "average" stadium in the Beaumont area is goal line to goal line (100 yards wide) and 26 rows high (A to Z) 100 x 2 = 200 (people on 1 row) 200 x 26 = 5200 (total number of people) So most 4A and 5A stadiums in the Beaumont area seat around 10,000 (5,200 x 2) The new staduium in Dayton is about 50 yards wide and will be 58 ROWS HIGH!!! There are more aisles in this stadium if you look at the pictures in bronco1's topic so that will affect the formula, but... 50 x 2 = 100 100 x 58 = 5800 There will also be a section of fold down seats so that will decrease this number. The other side of Bronco stadium can seat around 3,000. So when the stadium is finished it should hold between 8,000 and 9,000 people. I do believe the 58 rows at this stadium will be the highest of any stadium in this part of the state.
  13. Was told today by my ATPE rep that the Senate has passed this, but not the house???? Even if both houses have passed it, is still must be signed by the governor.
  14. What are the odds of Vince Young graduating from Madison if this bill would have been law 10 years ago??? VY, Earl Campell, all the greats would not be playing in public schools but private. They really need to think this through before making it law.
  15. This is not a good idea!!! If you don't think the enrollment of kids with "athletic" ability won't increase in private schools in Houston and Dallas your hamster has fallen off the wheel. Think about basketball... One "stud" athlete can carry your team way into the playoffs, maybe even to the state championship.
  16. I can't find the links for the pictures, but doing the "math".... There are a total of 58 ROWS!!! The stadium is roughly 50 yard wide. To figure out how much a stadium holds... Every yard of bleachers roughly seats 2 people... So.... a typical stadium in the Beaumont area is from the goal to goal (100 yards) and 26 rows (A to Z). 100 x 2 = 200 200 x 26 = 5200 So most stadiums in the Beaumont area seat around 10,000 (5200 x 2) Dayton's new home side (estimated calculation) will seat 50 x 2 = 100 100 x 58 = 5800 I have been told there will be fold up seats which will reduce this number. The other side of Bronco Stadium seats around 3000, which means the stadium will hold around 8,000 to 9,000 people when it is done. FYI... The largest home side in this area is PNG's... I do believe that the 58 rows in Dayton will be the tallest bleachers in this part of the state.
  17. I am sure you are a fine example of a Barbers Hill student / graduate... Well versed in excuse making.... Is that a freshmen level class you take or something????
  18. Besides NOT DROPPING THE BATON... Another rule I was taught in track... When someone is coming up on you at the end of the straightaway, speed up to make him run extra yards to your outside around the curve.... Looks like Barbers Hill didn't know that, and... He probably couldn't SPEED UP!!!! Barbers Hill finished the race in an excellent fashion, looking ahead at the Dayton runner's back!!
  19. I am way to old to compare my high school track times with the current kids, but I do know one thing.... I WOULDN'T DROP THE BATON!!!! and.... I WOULDN'T MAKE EXCUSES FOR NOT SUCCEEDING!!! Looks like Barbers Hill is raising up some lawyers, in their future they will make a living making excuses for something that went wrong and earn money from doing it!!!!
  20. If Joe was fast enough... He started 10 meters BEHIND!!!! and caught up and was in FRONT of Barbers Hill. Why don't you save the "video tape" for next weekend and watch it while the Bronco Fans are watching their mile relay team in the state meet!!!!
  21. If you run fast enough, you don't have to worry about someone passing you up! Also, the golden rule of the relay... DON'T DROP THE BATON!!!
  22. With your baseball team about to take the field, here are some possible scenarios... score Pirates 5 Eagles 4 Eagles have a runner on 1st and second with one out. Batter hits a line drive to center field where it is cleanly caught by a diving acrobatic play. The outfielder gets up and throws out the runner on 2nd who didn't tag. The inning is over... BARBERS HILL FANS, whatever shall you do... Start yelling that the outfielder DROPPED the ball and claim you have "video evidence" of the play and protest the game. Moral of the story... Adapt and overcome. Don't make excuses.
  23. bheagle... How can you get cut off "illegally" if NO FOUL was called!!!! Once again words of wisdom... Champions adapt and overcome. Losers make excuses!!!! I believe your baseball team plays soon. Good luck to them!!!
  24. BH FANS... Get this straight... You don't deserve anything if you can't hold on to the baton!!!! Forget about track and start rooting for your baseball team. Good luck to your baseball team against the Pirates!!! and.... PLEASE DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE OFFICIALS!!!
  25. Some words of wisdom for the Barbers Hill fans.... Champions adapt to the situation and overcome adversity. LOSERS MAKE EXCUSES! Start learning how to overcome bad things instead of making excuses for not succeeding. Also, the most important thing in a relay is the baton. I still don't see how dropping the baton can be blamed on Dayton. The Barbers Hill guy has to hold on to the baton as if there was no yesterday.
