Wish I could watch channel 6 from here in Dayton... Looks like the weather will hinge on where the low pressure off the Texas coast tracks to. I got a feeling tomorrow afternoon and evening will be a washout in Houston. The weather forecast I watched on Channel 13 had the rain lasting into Saturday morning, but it really depends on where the low pressure goes. -

Who Will Be The Next Barbers Hill HC?
PURPLE 4EVER replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Got to love the believing attitude of the Barbers Hill parents and adults. They really want the kids to succeed in everything, and in most part they do. But in the one sport that matters the most, there are just too many other schools nearby that have better and faster athletes for football. Barbers Hill will be a competive football team for the next half decade, but asking a coach to even deliver a Region III championship, much less a state championship, in that time frame is very wishful thinking. See definition of delusion of grandeur. It fits many Barbers Hill adults including the ones that ran out the current successful coach. -

Friday night will be a wash out! I think it will be worse than expected with possibly 3 inches of rain on Friday ending Saturday morning. Weather is also calling for gale force winds at the cost. Could be really windy, cold (in the 50's) and a steady to heavy rain. The best defensive team will win Friday at Aldine. -
I was at the dayton game this year and over half of their starting skill players are on par or better athlete-wise than our best 3 athletes... Dayton fans... Vidor game is done, making the video into wmv format so I can post it. It will be up in about 2 hours. Wait till you see the first "jacked up" video of the year! ps... GREAT JOB VIDOR PIRATES! Vidor has a great team, just hard to mount the running attack against the Bronco defense. The Pirates NEVER gave up! It is great to see that attitude all the way to the end. -

Does anyone know if the school board will conduct the searching for a new coach, or will they appoint a "search committee" to go and collect the resumes. I hope the Eagles land a quality coach that continues the tradition of sportsmanship and 110% effort. -
You have fallen prey to the typical media mentality, the team you like gets "throttled" (your words) by Crosby, but you still rank them higher because that is how you believe it should be, not what the evidence shows. Of course if Dayton was 0-10 you would still have them #1 in you power rankings. I know, for a brief week or 2 you had Crosby ahead of Dayton. Like the Zin Master said, "we will see".
If you read about how the rankings go... I am ranking the survivors by the difficulty of their bracket and who will be playing last. If Vidor would have beaten Dayton, odds are they would have won the next two games. Vidor would probably beat this Waller team. PN-G, Central, and Crosby should all win this week, but next week they will have much stronger opponents than what Dayton gets. Just by the strength of what bracket each one is in, Dayton should be favored heavily to reach the quarterfinals, Central, PN-G, and Crosby will have a much tougher task next week, but I hope all four make it past the Regional round. -
The new Beaumont stadium will have 2 tiers. I hear its only going to hold like 10,000 people. Thats not very many !!
if you have ever been to the Berry Center it is the same situation. It looks impressive, but I think at the Berry Center the stands only go from the 25 to the 25. That is only 50 yards wide, of course all the seats are good seats as their are no endzone seats. At Stallworth, the stadium goes from endzone line to endzone line (that is 120 yards long), hence the seating is almost 20,000.

If our board doesn't hire a great coach, and we get a guy in here that goes 5-5 the next three or four years, or who gets beat in the first round of the playoffs every time. I will be on here throwing it back in your face. See what I'm expecting with all the great talent we have, is a State Championship for the next three years. It wasn't exceptable for Price to go one or two rounds seven out of ten years, so the bar is set very high for the next guy.
I'm sorry before I even start but you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. The Hill has a lot of mediocre athletes that mommy and daddy think are at least small D1 material and the honest truth is that I can think of maybe 5 since 1995 that would be D1 football players possibly. And thats not a hit on the kids at all. Cause they work their butts of and have for years to be better than teams that out-athlete them. But the truth is that they are not all that naturally talented and never really have been. And when you are playing in District you face teams that are good and bad. But when you get to the playoffs... everyone is good. So natural athletes start to play a much bigger role. And when a team like the Hill who is and has been very fundamentally sound and hard working but just mediocre athlete-wise and they get to the playoffs and play a team like we have in the past (Kirbyville, Central, PNG, etc.) who is also fundamentally sounds but has one or two big name players that are naturally great athletes it is the deciding factor. Barbers Hill in the last 10 years has not had the Athlete-pool do go any further than one or two rounds. That has nothing to do with coaching and it will remain that way with the next coach unless he brings some phenomenal athlete to town with him.
This is the truth Barbers Hill fans don't want to hear... As someone who has seen all the talent that is feeding up to Barbers Hill from Junior High (by watching them play at Dayton), there are two groups that do have talent, the current 9th graders and 7th graders are GOOD!, but... not good enough to beat Dayton, which is one of the best 4A football programs in the region. Forecast for Barbers Hill over the next half decade is they will have a team good enough to post winning records and maybe win a playoff game here or there, but a region III championship trophy (winning quarter finals) is probably not in the opting considering NONE of their teams beat Dayton this year (except for the last round of junior high games (8th A beat Dayton)). IMO... Coach Price was a good coach and got all he could out of what he was given. If the people in Barbers Hill think they can win the Kentucky derby riding a mule more power to them, but it is setting up the new coach for failure. -
Working days this weekend so I can't make the Crosby game but will definitely be there in time for the stampede! Seriously considering Friday night at Thorne but the weather looks a little scary. Sure would be fun to watch that one too though. Bout` dem Broncos.....I hope we see our offense show up for four quarters this week. Not raggin on them though, all year long they have got the job done for the most part. Other than the fluke in Crosby, they have put up comparable numbers to last years team. And that's sayin something! I can't put my finger on it but somehow they have just looked out of sync at times this year. But then you look at the scoreboard and there's 30+ points on it! Crazy. I remember 2 years ago when Cody went down, the offense looked out of sync for a while then too. They kept winning though, and by the end of the year they were a scoring machine! Does anyone remember the game at Nederland? I personally have never witnessed a more impressive offensive performance by a high school team. And Nederland was not a bad team that year. This years team has just as much offensive talent (collectively) IMO. Fowler, Franks, Ploch, Baldwin, Goss among others. And they're all playing behind an offensive line that is as good, if not better, than any they have put on the field the last few years. The key seems to be riding on soph QB, Herrera. If he continues to improve the way he has, this team could go a long way. Anyway, the point to all this is that Stewart, Nations and the gang, have proven time and time again that they can overcome obstacles and correct imperfections. They keep tinkering with the line up and just may come up with a combination that keeps on winning.
EXACTLY!!!! There is a load of talent in the ranks at Dayton High School with even more coming up. The key is to get everyone in the right place. Moving Ploch to the slot / slash position in my opinion was wise. The offense is more diverse, Herrera is the key. A sophomore QB, he is getting better and better with each game. I would hate to be the team playing against Dayton if the offense starts firing on all cylinders for a whole game. Against Galena Park we scored 28 points in the first seven minutes of the game, then sputtered. And the greatest component of this team is the front seven of the defense. Simply amazing how they have shut down everyone since the Crosby game. Moving Jakari to linebacker was another brilliant move. When the Dayton defense lines up, it has probably at least three to five guys on the field that are faster than anybody on the offense, that is key in shutting down a running team. I got a good feeling about Saturday, I think Herrera will finally get a solid 4 quarters in with Dayton scoring every quarter. Thankfully we won't be playing in the rain like PN-G will be on Friday night. -

Also at... [Hidden Content] Enjoy the reading!!! TOUPS GRAPHICS FEARLESS PREDICTIONS AREA ROUND OF PLAYOFFS It's that time of the week! Who? WHo? WHO? will win this weekend? The weekened starts off Friday at Aldine's Thorne Stadium, with PN-G facing Brenham in what might just be the best 4A playoff game in Region III. These two teams might just have to battle a light drizzle with temperatures in the 50's. Not a great night for football. The action then goes to Saturday with Central travelling to the same stadium to have a six o'clock kick off with the Huntsville Hornets. Saturday at Spring's ISD George Stadium Crosby and Dayton play in a double header with game times of 2 o'clock and 7 o'clock. Who will win the games this weekend? Read below to find out..... 4A PLAYOFFS AREA FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20 PN-G Indians VS Brenham Cubs Thorne Stadium, Aldine, TX 7:00 PM Toups Graphics predicts the weather will play a factor in this game. A light drizzle will plague this game. This might slow down the passing attack of the PN-G offense. The winner of this game will be the team that plays the best defense and forces the turnovers. The first half will be a draw with the teams going into halftime tied 7 to 7. Brenham will win the 3rd quarter with a lengthy time consuming drive, but turnovers will do the Cubs in during the 4th quarter. The Indians capitalize on two 4th quarter fumbles and take the lead. The Indians advance to the Regional round of the playoffs and the drumming of Cherokee echoes down HWY 59 and I-45 sounding a warning to all of Houston that the Indians win yet again. TOUPS GRAPHICS FEARLESS PREDICTION PN-G 21 Brenham 17 SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21 Central Jaguars vs Huntsville Hornets Thorne Stadium, Aldine, TX 6:00 PM The Jaguars visit to Thorne stadium on Saturday will be much more pleasant for the football fan (at least weather wise). The Jaguars have spent the last three games in an offensive slump, but thankfully the defense has been outstanding. Look for the Jaguar's defense to carry Central to round three. The Jaguars out pursue and run down the Hornets to win the Area round game in yet another defensive showdown. BMT Soulja is seen with his 1980's ghetto blaster dancing to Stayin Alive after the game. TOUPS GRAPHICS FEARLESS PREDICTION Central 14 Huntsville 7 Crosby Cougars vs Montgomery Bears Leonard George Stadium, Spring, TX, 2 PM The Cougars make a trip to Spring, TX to take on the Bears of Montgomery for yet another Saturday afternoon game. Look for the Cougar QB & RB 1 - 2 punch to be too much for the Bears. The Cougars defense puts a licking on the Bears and the Cougars offense racks up over 300 yards of offense. The Cougars win impressively and don't let the Bears back into the game during the 4th quarter. TOUPS GRAPHICS FEARLESS PREDICTION Crosby 35 Montgomery 14 Dayton Broncos vs Waller Bulldogs Leonard George Stadium, Spring, TX, 7 PM The Broncos have rebounded big time since they were shut out in the rain at Crosby. The Bronco defense has allowed only 2 touchdowns in the last 12 quarters. At times the offense is firing on all cylinders. The Broncos still haven't played a complete all out 4 quarter game this year. Look for that to change Saturday in Spring. Dayton wins this one going away. Waller will be shut out in the first half and the Broncos will have three scoring drives. In the second half the Broncos defense forces some turnovers and Dayton pulls away. A fourth quarter TD by the Bulldogs stops the shutout from occuring. TOUPS GRAPHICS FEARLESS PREDICTION Dayton 34 Waller 7 TOUPS GRAPHICS POWER RANKINGS NOVEMBER 15 Their are only four 4A teams left playing that are east of Houston. The power rankings change to who will be playing the last game. All four teams should be favored to advance this week (not giving away my predictions), the key is the regional round of the playoffs, Central likely plays Friendswood in round 3, Crosby likely plays Dawson in round 3, PN-G likely plays a banged up but highly ranked Angleton team, and Dayton will likely draw HISD's Yates. Of those four games, Dayton will likely be favored by football gurus (although all four have a chance). Over the next two games the Dayton Broncos easily are in the best part of the bracket. #1 Dayton - At the beginning of the playoffs, just studying the brackets, Dayton really drew a good spot. If Dayton continues to play good defense look for them to be in the quarter-final game. #2 PN-G - The highest ranking team east of Houston really draws a hard path to the quarterfinals. If the Indians can topple Brenham they draw Angleton, then likely Dayton. A brutal three game stretch drops the Indians to #2 in the rankings. #3 Crosby - Should win the area round, but will play Dawson in the following week. The Cougar offense will really have to fire on all cylinders for the Cougars to be playing in three weeks. #4 Central - The Jaguars have a great team, but unless they can get the offense clicking, in the following week they should draw Friendswood. The Jaguars will have to improve to stay with the Mustangs. Hopefully if they do get turf, they will expand the visitor section at the same time. Of course for all BH fans, if they want to know what a real 4A football facility looks like, along with real 4A football program (one of the best in Region III), they just have a little drive north on HWY 146 (about 10 miles from the county line) to see it. ;D
The only reason Dayton has such a nice field and stands is thanks to CMC railyard and all the taxes paid by them. So if not for them Dayton would still be on the old crappy field. So don't brag too much
If that is your reasoning.... The facility and the storage in the salt dome at Barbers Hill generates far more tax money of Barbers Hill than the railyard does for Dayton. Dayton's football facility far exceeds what is at Barbers Hill (I would give the edge to Barbers Hill on the field house and parking, but the field, stadium, and lighting at Dayton are way better).

Who Will Be The Next Barbers Hill HC?
PURPLE 4EVER replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Whoever he is, I hope he really has some thick skin. I thought Price did a good job with what he had. Winning in 4A is a lot different than succeeding in 3A. I always thought the kids at Barbers Hill (from 7th to 12th) gave 110% effort and displayed excellent sportsmanship. Good Luck to Barbers Hill on their search, I would bet there is a lot of politics to be had in this decision. -

They need a real 4A visitors section first. Haha just kidding Purple. I really hope we will upgrade someday on both the visitor side and the turf. Believe it or not THE SCHOOL BOARD just does not think it is a priorty and we continue to re-elete the same ones so I guess we are in the minority. Oh well.
Just from my experience... There were several times in Dayton that they had to cancel JV and Junior High games because the field was so wet and it would rip up the turf for varsity. The field Dayton has now, is really nice, and from playing like in almost every stadium in the area over the last few years, no field around here has better lighting than Bronco Stadium. Regarding parking, I like neighborhood parking better, you don't have to wait 20 minutes after a game to get out of a parking lot, you might have to walk a ways, but at least after the game you get to your car and you can leave.
-
As much as I don't like Friendswood Fan... He does have one strong point... Name the last time a team east of Houston beat Friendswood? The only strong point that Dayton has over Friendswood is that for the last two years the Mustangs were dribbling basketballs while Dayton was still playing football. It might just happen again this year, but only time will tell. PN-G shouldn't worry about Friendswood, they need to beat Brenham this week, that should be all they are worried about. If PN-G has three or four drives stall out inside the red zone, they might be in trouble against Brenham. I think they had three or four drives against Barbers Hill stall out inside the 20 on downs and missed field goals, they need to convert those drives into points. Just from my experience of watching video over the last few years that Dayton has advanced, every game you play from now on will get quicker and quicker. The speed of the game keeps getting faster as you advance and the teams get better. If you can't adjust to the quickness it could mean the dribbling sounds of basketballs. PN-G will need at least an A- play level to win this week.
