This morning I heard Fort Worth ISD was shutting down. Got to make you wonder if they will cancel the baseball and softball playoffs if the school cancellations become more widespread.

Agree.... 36,000 die from the flu every year... Got to make you wonder if they are really telling us everything.

COOP.... Looking at the channel 13 and channel 11 radar this morning... The storms over Brenham are moving in a northerly direction. The storms over Liberty county are moving primarily to the south... Is there a low pressure developing over west Houston where they got the major rain totals last night? Just curious... None of the weather maps had a low pressure over the area?

Yes that was the most exciting game.Just seconds left tie ballgame and out of nowhere here comes A.J. to take posession of the ball.4 seconds left Cody kicks the ball and its, its, its, good...Dayton wins the game.... Awesome.... Absolutely!!!! It is a moment that will last a lifetime for me! 1st and only field goal of the year and it got us to the State Championship. Hands down, the greastest live sporting event I have ever seen. And I was so fortunate to capture that game on video (with exception of pausing the video during AJ's miracle). The end of that game was the most emotional ending of a high school football game that I have seen. I sure will miss watching AJ do his magic every Friday night, but there are plenty of Broncos ready to try to recapture the magic. GOOD LUCK AJ AT UH!! ALWAYS BELIEVE!!!

If the student that was tased would have LISTENED AND TREATED THE COP as an authority figure NOTHING LIKE THIS would have happened. That is what is wrong with many of our kids. They DONT respect authority.

At least in baseball the Cougars can actually get away with hitting a Bronco, because in football they are on the other end of the beating stick.

Success with working with kids (IMO) is getting them to BELIEVE THEY WILL ALWAYS SUCCEED! even if they have repeated failures. If the kids of your team believe they will succeed before they start and give 110% but still lose to superior forces, there is little as a coach you can do. Look at Dayton's losses the last two years in the playoffs, they were to teams that on that given day just had more firepower than the Broncos, but Dayton left the field as champions to every one that supported them. We all need to remember that high school athletic is ALL ABOUT THE KIDS and the future of you community, and as a fan you need to ALWAYS BELIEVE in them and support them win or loss.

Nederland ISD is up in air over how money in a bond issue will be spent especially over the stadium renovation. Chew on this.... Saw this report this morning on ABC 13 from Houston about Katy's plans to turf auxillary fields at all 6 HIGH SCHOOLS FOR AROUND $5,000,000! $5,000,000 sure is a lot of money, especially for auxillary fields, my sister's kids go to Katy ISD and these fields are used a lot, for JV and Fresh fb games, soccer games, and lacrosse, not to mention the practices. Still, $5,000,000 on plastic grass??? Read below and reply back on whether or not you would vote for this if you were a school board member. The article is at... [Hidden Content] It is copied below... By Kevin QuinnKATY, TX (KTRK) -- It takes some serious green to change out green turf. Katy ISD is set to spend millions of dollars in football field upgrades, but some question why the money isn't being spent elsewhere. The school district is making the change from grass to artificial turf at six of its high schools. Katy ISD officials say they've specifically earmarked the money. The KISD school board voted unanimously last week to authorize spending up to $5.2 million on artificial turf for competition fields at its six high schools. With the economy what it is, some are questioning that spending. At Katy ISD's six high school campuses, the natural grass competition football fields are used extensively by students, not just for football, but also for soccer, track and field, pep rallies and community events. The fields are used so frequently that district staffers have said the playing surface can't be maintained as effective or even safe. Its replacement with turf is something some student athletes support. "It's a heck of a lot better than grass," said student Trevor Welsch. The vote to replace the grass with synthetic comes a year after Katy ISD forced a ten percent budget reduction for central office functions. Other districts also have been cutting back. Galveston ISD cut jobs and consolidated four schools. HISD let nearly two dozen teachers go and cut back on bus routes to save money. Katy ISD has refused to comment on the expenditure on camera and no school board members returned repeated calls for comment on the vote. The district says four of the five million dollars will come from project savings elsewhere. It's money, they say, that can only be used on capital improvements, not teachers and not operating expenses. Additionally, the district says it will save $900,000 over the 10 year projected lifespan of the turf -- money it otherwise would have spent on upkeep of grass. Katy ISD spokesperson Steve Stanford did issue a statement which reads in part, "Because of the extensive use of the competition fields and the difficulty of keeping them well maintained, the high school athletic coordinators believe the current fields are putting students at greater risk for injury. A more sustainable surface will greatly reduce that risk." Some question whether the money could be better spent. Father Michael Branham said, "From a taxpayer standpoint, they've had the natural grass for so long, and they haven't had any issues with it, I don't know why they would change their mind all of a sudden." The school district is now accepting bids for the new turf. They hope to have it installed at the end of the summer, before the new school year begins. More than 55,000 students are in Katy ISD. According to the district's website, it's one of the fastest growing in the state. It's supposed to grow about five to six percent each year up until 2016

Chambers County is not too expensive. In the Beaumont Area, wouldn't the Babe be the "cheapest". Also... Is the Pee Patch reopened? That course was pretty "cheap" to play. Is the course at Terrel Park still openned. When I was in high school (back in the 80's) it was the only course with Saint Augustine fairways on a couple of the holes (very interesting).

The question Nederland needs to be asking.... If they do vote down this bond, and in about 2 to 5 years from now when the projects are completed that were passed in the PNISD bond are completed, where do you think a parent moving in with kids would rather live. The taxes in Nederland will be lower, but would you rather have your child going to a school that was built when FDR was president, or a new school with the newer technology built into it. PN-G has done an outstanding job with it's highschool. You really wouldn't know it is over 60 years old if you were to walk around in it. The way Nederland High School was desigend (with the open environment) really does mean to redo that school it will need to be gutted. Nederland citizens may be voting no on this bond because they don't want to keep up with the "Jones'" but the consequences of voting this down now will only mean that it will be more expensive to do in the future, and that the Jones' will be the chosen district by many new citizens moving into the area because it is keeping up with the technological future.

As a math teacher, I love the number comparison. Our high school kids need to know that only 1 out of 100,000 will make it to the big leagues. That is 0.001%. Better hit the books if you are lucky enough to end up with a collage scholarship (about 1 out of 10). As far as high school kids from an area of the state beating ANY pro team, FORGET it! Wouldn't EVEN be close!
