  1. South Houston didn't bring many fans but they brought the loud ones. It was great to hear noise coming from both sides of the field. Congrats to SoHo for making it to the playoffs. We used to live there and my oldest son went there for his freshman year before we moved to Beaumont. There's a nice feeling of community at that school.
  2. Thanks Coop, West Brook's season starts Tuesday. They attend a Tri meet in Friendswood. I'll have details and results Tuesday evening.
  3. [Hidden Content] Russel Pate is a writer for the Chronicle. Here he gives his predictions for the upcoming season. He picks West Brook as the dark horse of the Houston area and predicts Gerald Moulton will return to state.
  4. Michael Zoch didn't make it through Friday eliminations, after losing to Teague, who took 1st place. Michael weighs 240 lbs. and wrestles the 285 lb class, giving up 45 lbs. to most of his opponents. Gerald Moulton took a fifth place. In his second match he took a hard hit to the face and battled a bloody nose all weekend, wrestling with his nose stuffed and taped. Jacob Rice took 4th in his weight class. Last year he didn't even make regionals. West Brook ended up in 22nd place in team points. Congratulations to the boys and Coach Hemmings. West Brook's wrestling program has earned state wide respect.
  5. West Brook took 9 wrestlers to the region 3 tournament. 62 schools were represented. Gerald Moulton at 189 lbs. took 1st place. Jacob Rice at 171 lbs. placed 3rd. Michael Zoch at 285 lbs. placed 4th. All three advance to the state finals in Austin. West Brook as a team ended up in 9th place. Congratulations to all.

  10. Westbrook took 1st place at The Woodshed Classic Brazoswood Duals Tournament Saturday. Westbrooks Gerald Moulton won the award for most outstanding wrestler with 3 pins and 2 decisions. Every team in the district was there so the team got a good look at who they're going up against at the district finals in 2 weeks. It looks like Westbrook will have half the team or more going to regionals Feb 9th and 10th.
  11. Enterprise is predicting Rison
  12. As expected, Westbrook's wrestlers did well at the Seven Lakes meet. Westbrook took 1st place in team points out of 9 schools attending. Next Saturday they go to Brazoswood for a duals meet. The attending schools will all be in Westbrook's district so this will be a preview of the Individual district tournament on the 3rd. That will be the end of the regular season with top 2 wrestlers from each weight class going on to regionals.
  13. Westbrook travels to Seven Lakes High School in Katy for a duals match this Saturday. Due to another tournament the same weekend the best schools in Houston won't be there. Westbrook should do well there. I'll keep you posted.

  18. Westbrook will wrestle Sulphur high School Wednesday, January 3rd at 6 PM in the boys gym. This is an exhibition match but these two teams meet every year so there are some good rivalrys. should be fun to watch.
  19. Thanks Coop, Good stuff. My son wrestles at 152 at Westbrook and he wasn't happy to see Murray moved up from 145 to 152. The kid was feared at 145 and he's apparently put on a lot of muscle in the past year. We'll be running into Cy-Fair and Seven Lakes at least one more time before regionals in February so we'll see how we do. The one to watch at Westbrook is Gerald Moulton at 189 pounds. He went to state last year as a sophomore and is sure make it back this year.
  20. Last weeks match at Westbrook results. Westbrook went 3-0 in team points against Clear Creek, Clear Lake and College Park. Klein Forest also went 3-0. Klein Forest stayed after the other schools left for a tie breaker. Westbrook beat them by over 20 points. Westbrook had a lot of support from the home crowd and the visiting teams from the Clear Lake area also brought a good crowd. Coach Hemmings did a great job organizing the event and we hope he makes it bigger next year.
  21. Westbrook will be hosting a duals meet on Saturday 12/16/06 starting at 9 AM. This will be the only home event for Westbrook this year. Attending will be Clear Lake High School, Clear Creek High School, Clear brook High School, Kleinn Forest and College Park. Central and Ozen have also been invited. Please come out and support the team.
  22. The Westbrook wrestling team went to The Woodlands for a 2 day tournament on Dec 8th and 9th. 34 schools were there from as far as El Paso and Alabama. Westbrook took 10th in overall team points. The heavyweight wrestlers, back from their extended football season did exceptionally well. Michael Zoch and Josh Bonura both brought home medals for 3rd. Gerald Moulton took first place in the 189 lb class. He's listed as the #1 189 pounder in the Houston area by more than one website. Westbrook will be at home Saturday the 16th at 9 AM for a duals match with 6 schools promising to atttend. This will be the only chance to watch them at home this year.
  23. I wrestled briefly in high school in western New York many years ago. My son has been involved in TX-USA wrestling since middle school and now wrestles 152 as a junior at Westbrook. I have gone to every match and tournament he's competed in. After a couple of camps (Oklahoma) and some summer Freestyle\Greko tournaments, we've gotten to know a lot of wrestlers and tried to keep up with their progress. This weekends tournament at The Woodlands will have some schools from the Dallas area, Louisiana and Alabama. If you want to see some great competition it's worth the 2 hour drive. On the 16th there will be a duals match at Westbrook. As far as my involvement, I just want to promote the sport and build some interest in this area.
  24. Westbrook has had wrestling for 5 or 6 years. Central and Ozen both have programs but I don't think they have teams this year. Hardin Jefferson posted an opening for a coach on a wrestling website, but that was over the summer and I don't know if they're still pursuing it. The Houston area, West Texas and of course North Texas are all way ahead of us. [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]
