Make sure you get the advanced purchase, non-refundable reservations. We'll be glad to take them off your hands for cents on the dollar come mid-November. Or feel free to sit on the Manvel side in San Antonio! You'll be welcome to join us!
 2.
Take this crap to a Houston area board. ;)
Nice response! (and yes I did see the wink) Don't forget that Manvel is further south than anything in "SE TX." So to us, you all are NORTH Texas! ;D And I'm pretty sure that SE TX hotbed of Barbers Hill / Mt Belvieu is closer to Houston than I am.  ;)
 3.
couldn't find it... if anyone in the Pearland, tx area no where to get one... Please let me know.
Just picked one up in the desolate SE TX town of Pearland at the Kroger on Shadow Creek Parkway.
 4. I'm pretty new to Texas HS football. Came across this board during the '10 season when I was trying to figure out whether my kids' HS team, which seemed to be doing pretty well, was for real or not. I've posted a little but read quite a bit on here since then. Been reading and posting on a few other boards since then as well, but the shear volume of postings here is just amazing, even more so given the relatively small geo footprint for SE TX. You guys always post more than on any other board, even state-wide ones. And the postings have a great combination of insights, trash talking, homerism (is that a word?) and - compared to some other boards - humility and good sportsmanship when one's team looses. So, even being out of the official SE TX / Golden Triangle area, I keep coming back here to see what's going on and what people think about SE TX.. All that said . . . AIN'T NO WAAAAYYYYYYYY PAM IS GOING TO BEAT MANVEL if they do meet up in the playoffs!!!!!!! ;D La Porte / Manvel - now that could be a game for the ages, but I'll still favor the Mavericks. Oh . . . and, ah, Hoka Hey!
 5. Manvel went 26-4 with 8 playoff wins over the past two years with a 2-QB system. Pretty good QBs too. The two from 2010 both are playing D1 ball (Minnesota and New Mexico State). The senior from 2011 will be playing for The Citadel. The junior from 2011 will be the sole starting QB this year and has 7 or 8 offers so far. The original question for the thread was "can a team win state running a 2-QB system." While Manvel didn't win state, they came pretty darn close. They basically played one QB in the state game due to an injury, but I think that what they did with two different sets of 2-QB systems shows a team can be successful with it. But it takes having very good QBs and a very good coaching system to manage it.

 9.
Great Job ladies...keep fighting...Anyone know anything about manvel girls?
This should be a great game -- #1 Ozen vs #7 Manvel. Manvel's only two losses have been to 5A powers MacArthur and Dekaney. Three common opponents this year: Beaumont Central 11/12 - Manvel won 82-40 12/16 - Ozen won 68-42 1/24 - Ozen won 52-46 PAM 11/29 - Ozen won 55-40 12/3 - Ozen won 57-38 12/28 - Manvel won 51-38 Houston Wheatley 12/10 - Ozen won 56-41 2/21 - Manvel won 79-47 Interesting coincidence -- Manvel's girls playing #1 Ozen on Friday, and Manvel's boys (#10) playing #1 Yates, also on Friday. Wonder if one school has ever had their boys and girls facing off against the two #1 ranked teams on the same day before.
Well,  I see how you were back in your days. ;D
Back in my days is no different than nowadays.  Am strictly a wannabe but am able to admit it. But Dove, maybe you can answer the question I am about to pose.  In the following comparisons, tell me if the better athlete/alleged superior talent is also the better basketball player 1.  Kevin Love vs JaVale McGee 2.  Dirk Nowitzky vs Lamar Odom 3.  Larry Bird vs Dominique Wilkins 4.  Sam Perkins vs Kevin McHale 5.  John Stockton vs Nate Archibald 6.  Tim Duncan vs James Worthy
Unless its Isaiah Thomas, I really don't care. He was smart, quick, athletic, a scorer, a passer, and those are the players I liked to watch.
My favorite Isiah Thomas pass was at the end of game 5 in the '87 conference championships. Great pass to Larry Bird, who fired it to DJ for the game winning basket. Classic Bird! Love watching that replay! [Hidden Content]
 11. Link to the video of the news broadcast, including a shot of the Manvel coach's black eye. [Hidden Content]
 12. Congratulations Aledo on your third-straight championship! The voters for defensive and offense players of the game certainly got it right. Jaylen Hill penetrated the Manvel O line like no one has been able to do all season. And Matthew Bishop did so much offensively, but probably the dagger to the Mavericks was his escaping a very near sack on 3rd and 10 from the Aledo 25 with about 8 minutes left in the game. Aledo was only up by 7 points at the time, and a sack and subsequent punt would have given Manvel a very good shot at tying the game. Instead, he escaped and completed a 40 yd pass to save a possession that ended in the TD that put the game out of reach. I’m still proud of the Mavericks. Too many penalties and dropped passes, but they made the great Jonathon Gray work hard for his yards, and were the only team to hold him under 3 TDs all season, holding him to a single. 4th quarter score (Stephenville didn’t really hold him to one in their playoff rematch – JG and the refs held him to one).  Manvel looses a ton (and probably pretty close to that in actual weight!) on their O and D lines, but their rotation style of play should help bring back a lot of experience, even in those positions. And they have a bunch of skilled positions returning as well. I’d be surprised if they come up with another QB to challenge McCarley, so next year may be the first time in a few years that Manvel plays a single QB. 5A will be quite a challenge for what will probably be a smaller but still very fast Maverick team in 2012.
 13.

294 yards in flags tonight that is crazy
Wow thats crazy. LT usually operates with incredible precision and efficiency. Can you break it down for each team? Thanks.
16 called on LT, 13 accepted 26 called on Dawson, 22 accepted
 14. Yeah, the announcers on TSRN Sports are saying the refs are bad as well. Said they need new refs. First half stats: Dawson 1st Downs: 13 Rushing: 15 for 101 yds Passing: 14/24/1 for 132 yds Total offense: 233 yds Penalties: 14 for 105 yds LT 1st Downs: 13 Rushing: 18 for 91 yds Passing: 9/14/0 for 164 yds (61 on one TD pass) Total offense: 255 yds Penalties: 7 for 58 yds 21 total penalties in one half! They also said the the LT D line is simulating the Dawson snap count, and drawing the motion penalties on Dawson. Odd.
 15. Interesting comparison -- Gray gets ejected for high-stepping (well, officially he gets ejected for that being his second similar penalty), yet LM and Ozen only have one player ejected for two bench-clearling brawls. Guess it's OK to fight, as long as you don't high-step while doing it.
 16.
But the Bench clearing DID happen during the game!
Exactly! Only question is does UIL have an effective rule on that one. Hopefully they do – if not, they need to add it for next year. Good news is that today’s report in the Beaumont Enterprise does two things: 1) Shows that the tweets circulated from a Galveston County “sportswriter” saying that the UIL had cleared La Marque of wrong doing and responsibility were bogus, and 2) clarifies some comments from the UIL in a Tuesday article that seemed to imply that the UIL would not get involved. Today’s article says the investigation is ongoing. Hopefully they are looking at both the 4th qtr and post-game incidents. Along with the appropriate player discipline, I hope they put the coaches on probation, with any further serious incident from their teams resulting in the coach’s suspension. Hold the coaches accountable and they will force better behavior. And of course the officials shouldn’t work another game until they pass a suitable training curriculum. (NDNation - perhaps you should modify your signature block to include "and a can of pepper spray"  ;) )
RETALIATION DOES NOT EQUAL SELF DEFENSE!!!!! Both to the Beaumont and La Marque ISD's, the state is watching.
Great post, WOSgrad. Way too much CYA and blame deflection going on, and (at least so far) no apparent acceptance that serious corrective actions are needed. And the actions are at all levels: officials, coaches, players, and - if they are playing CYA and blame deflection - school administrators.
 18.

I think that each coach should hold these kids accountable. During a basketball game (playoff game) were I went to school our school player got into a fight with a guy on the losing team. Coach Gaston benched the palyer and we lost out of the playoffs by 4 points. Small school politics could not budge him on his punishments. These kids now days are not allowed to be punished for there bad actions. I adopted a child and as part of the adoption I had to sign a waiver saying I would never use corpal punisment of any kind or have the child removed from my home. If my child were one of the players he would have a parent suspension and alot worse period. So as we set here and lay blame on these kids lets also blame these people at school, at home, and in our goverment who allow this crap to go on. Prime example is the people from Lamarque calling for no suspension of there football players for the playoffs. Thats saying its ok when your in the playoffs to act out. Parents from both schools need to step up and hold these kids accountable. Lamarque and Ozen stand up and hold your kids accountable dont wait on the UIL and skate by.
Trust me, mine was taken care of Saturday night and still is upset with me today but he will get over it and learn from it. I have taught him to never be the instigator but I've also taught him to defend himself when all else fails. He was hit by not 1 but 2 of Lamarque's players and felt that after turning the 1st cheek, he had ran out of cheeks to turn and in the heat of the moment he reacted. Well he will have alot of idle time to think about his actions and what he could have done differently.
Sounds like great parenting, uandme08. Thank you!
 19. Despite previous reports that the UIL has closed this issue, this article quotes Dr. Cousins as saying they are still looking at it. [Hidden Content] "League representatives initially told The Enterprise that the state agency would not get involved in student discipline. On Tuesday, however, Mark Cousins, UIL athletic director, clarified that after any type of altercation during a UIL-sanctioned event, school districts must turn in reports about the incidents to the state agency. "Anytime we have incidents, during the regular season or post-season, when a coach is ejected or whatever it may be, the school districts have to investigate and they'll report back to our compliance department," Cousins said. "We look at what, if any, corrective action they've done and our compliance officer will look at it and we'll look to see if any additional action is warranted." Cousins said because the fight happened after the game was over, the UIL is depending on the reports from the school districts to determine what exactly happened. If the fight had been during the game, there would have been penalties assessed based on playing rules and most importantly, he added, reports filed by game officials. "We'd look at the situation differently," Cousins said. Cousins would not provide details of action the UIL could take against the districts if it determines a certain team was at fault. He said it would be premature to comment on the matter until the investigation is complete."
You're smokin. Manvel stopped LM inside the 10 three times and scored on a busted coverage in a 29-14 home win. On a neutral field in the playoffs and with everything on the line, It'll be a nail biter.
Manvel dropped a TD in the endzone too!
Look no doubt Manvel is very impressive, but LM tends to play better in the playoffs so we'll see. LM's coach was worried about showin too much last week and basically ran only a few plays. I bet he throws the ball more than 4 times next week.
Gonna have to... But the pass rush will be there!
No doubt! Manvel sacked LM six times last game. Forced to throw away or run at least six other times. If LM's plan is to throw a lot, I'm sure the LM QB is already having nightmares!
 21.
According to a Galveston County sportswriter, "Source: UIL clears La Marque of any wrong doing regarding the brawl with Ozen Saturday. No discipline coming from UIL." And, "Source: UIL determined that La Marque did nothing to start the brawl, and thus was not responsible for its occurrence."
Any word on discipline for Ozen, the coaches and the officials who failed to control the situation? Or is UIL basically saying the two brawls were non-events? And I guess we know now that the UIL does not object to players leaving their benches to fight. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any other sports league that condones that.
 22.
And why is everyone on here saying that only La Marque should be punished when it is clear that players from both sides were at fault?
Read back through the posts. That is not what the vast majority of them say. The most common opinion by far is that both should be punished. Do you disagree with any punishment? As an LM fan, what do you think is appropriate?
 23. His season stats from the DFW Star-Telegram: [Hidden Content] 3252 yds rushing, 58 rushing TDs, 11.7 ypc 22 receptions, 480 yards, 5 more TDs
 24. First, change the title of this thread from " . . . about LaMarque" to " . . . about the LaMarque/Ozen incident." This is not just about LaMarque. Its Ozen, the officials and coaches as well. The actions UIL or other appropriate sanctioning groups could or should take include things like: The officials: suspend them from officiating any future games until they take and pass certain training courses on rules interpretation and player control, and after that serve as "apprentice" or some form of "junior" officials under more seasoned and qualified senior officials. Alternately, fire them for incompetence. The coaches: on probation for some timeframe during which if there are any incidents of 1) fighting, 2) flagrant fouls, 3) severe (to be defined) unsportsmanlike conduct by themselves, their staff or their players, the probation turns into a significant suspension from UIL events. If the coaches suffer severe consequences from their players actions, they will do what is necessary to prevent it, including kicking big time trouble makers off of their teams AND eliminate taunting-type antics that can incite violent reactions. The players determined to have broken rules or laws: (notice I did not specify LM or Ozen -- applies to players from either) Suspended from UIL events (including team practices) for xx months or xx events (duration proportional to severity - swinging a helmet as a weapon is criminal assault in my mind and should be a permanent ban from UIL events. No "ifs," "ands" or "buts" about that one). The suspensions should span beyond football. If a guilty player is done with football for the year, the suspension applies to basketball, baseball, track, UIL academic contests, etc.
 25. Imagine this: A&M player gets into an altercation on the UT sideline. 20 - 30 A&M players run across the field and get into it on the UT sideline. Officials and security take five minutes to break it up and get play resumed. After the game, the two teams get into a fight on the field, with players swinging helmets at each other and security / police have to use pepper spray to break it up. What would UT, A&M and the NCAA do about the situation? Think the NCAA would leave it up to the coaches to sort out? OR substituate the Texans, Titans and the NFL. What would they do? And yes, the NCAA and NFL do have more specialized and higher quality officials (most of the time  ;) ) that are more effective at avoiding blow up situations. But if one were to occur, how would the various levels respond?
