1.
No doubt, some film will sneak out on you tube if nowhere else. Having been at the game, and having a very good vantage point, I know what I observed. Many of you are mis informed or can only imagine what took place. When the films do appear, I wonder how many of you will return to this page and admit your conclusion was mistaken???? As for the Manvel match up, If LaMarque shows up with all their players, it will be 10 point game with either  team winning. If all players (29 of them to be exact) are not present, then Manvel will prevail in a hard fought contest.
You are correct, wombat. We are all stating opinions based on what we personally experienced (either at the game (very few of us) or via media). Sounds like you have better, more relevant experience than most here based on you being at the game. How about sharing your perspective based on what you saw? (wombat -- I assumed you are talking about the LM/Ozen incident in your previous post. Sorry if I misinterpreted.)
 2. The incidents during and after the LM/Ozen game are an embarrassment to LM, Ozen and Texas high school football. Fighting is unacceptable in any situation. Reports are that some players took off and swung helmets at opposing players. We all know helmet-to-helmet hits on the field are illegal and can cause severe injuries. Using a helmet as a weapon, and potentially hitting an unhelmeted opponent in the head, likely qualifies as assault with a deadly weapon. Someone could get killed with a helmet-to-skull impact. Unfortunately Manvel and Dawson had an off-field (in the parking lot if recall correctly) fighting incident after a 7-on-7 game over the summer. I know 7-on-7 is not UIL sponsored, not that it matters in my mind. The sponsors of that event dealt with it pretty severely and DQ’d both teams. The 11/4 Dawson / Manvel game was surprisingly clean and incident free. The players got the message from the earlier severe punishment. Bottom line is that all the players involved should get what they deserve – severe punishment and, frankly, criminal prosecution if warranted (not saying it is warranted, but if video indicates that it is, it needs to happen). Rules should not be bent for any reason – playoffs, timing, etc. It’s much better for all involved to learn a painful lesson in high school when the stakes are relatively low than later in life. I hope both coaches, schools and school districts, and the UIL, deal with this quickly, decisively and with the severity that it warrants. This is about high school kids in a learning environment. Learning the life lessons is far more important than any game, even a fourth-round playoff game.
 3.
Dawson should also be 5a.  The Pearland area is loaded  with football players.
Dawson turned in around 2000 enrollement. Likely to stay 4A.
 4.
I don't understand where these athletes are coming from for manvel They are Alvin isd right Alvin never had anything Are they formerly fort bend kids or Pearland maybe
Lots of growth along Highway 288. Has fed both Manvel and Dawson. Manvel is part of Alvin ISD.
 5.

Manvel will almost certainly be 5A next year. Dawson is likely to remain 4A. La Marque will most likely drop to 3A, so 24-4A will look very different next year.
If they choose so have had 3A numbers the last re-district but opted to stay 4A.
They dropped from just under 1000 in the last alignment to under 750 for this one. Most of the LM posters on some other boards seem convinced they will shrink some more and will go 3A this time. Guess we'll find out for sure in Feb.
 6.

On D Dayton lacks size at the LB position. Got a lot of speed but a power run team with a big back gives us fits.  ;D
Agree young LB 's started out behind the curve but as of late have brought it up a notch in the last several games -almost complettly shut down PNG power running game .( still lack size though) )
This should make for an interesting match up then. Manvel doesn't have a big power back like Bertrand. Manvel's are more quick, shifty-type backs.
 7. Manvel will almost certainly be 5A next year. Dawson is likely to remain 4A. La Marque will most likely drop to 3A, so 24-4A will look very different next year.
 8.

Songone what is your objective opinion on Manvel's weakest part of their game if any what part of their game gives you the most concern.
I think that our secondary gets so comfortable with the front four causing havoc and they fall asleep and get beat deep, slow starts lately and honestly I think they came into some games overconfident.  I hope that doesn't happen tomorrow... because Dayton is a very dangerous team.
Jayhawk (and anyone else with an opinion) -- what's your opinion on Dayton's weakest parts of their game? Regardless of the outcome, here's to a clean, injury-free game!
 9. Anyone know if there is radio or internet stream coverage of the game? Don't see it listed in TSRN.
 10.
I watched the Manvel v Yates contest...pretty sloppy.  If Manvel didn't score 50 plus points on them it would have been a travesty because I know for a fact Dayton would have scored 50 plus on them w/out the turnovers.  This game is going to be fun.  I don't mind Dayton scoring quickly and often but I sure do like them long sustained drives to give our defense a rest.  Lots of points in this game.
That's pretty funny, 7mary3. Dayton hasn't hit 50 against anyone this year, even defensive powerhouses like Galena Park, CE King and Houston North Forest. Yet you "know for a fact" they would have done so against Yates.  ::)
 11.
Unless they are much better than last year, I can not see them beating us tomorrow. I watched a team last year (in Manvel) play unorganized, sloppy, along with horrible play calling manage to pull it out against PNG, in whom I was not very impressed with either. This PNG team this year, was more talented. I could be wrong, but I just was not impressed last year with Manvel. Dayton 42 Manvel 38 Broncos Advance to take on Lam. Cougars in a Re-Match !!!
Manvel is much improved over last year. Much better passing game, more balanced and explosive offense, much better defense. I'm curious -- Manvel has played much better offensive teams than Dayton, teams that average over 40 points per game -- and held them well under 30 points. What is it about Dayton's offense that will allow them to do what no one else has been able to do this year? And only two teams have held Manvel under 40 points this year. What will Dayton's defense do to keep them under 40?
 12.

Key for Dayton success in 3 words=hurry up offense=wear them down 8)
I remember making the comment to my game watching buddy at the Mag. West game, that their defense had their hands on hips early in the third quarter. Good call liltex. I like that game plan. 8)
La Marque and Dawson also run the hurry up offense. It somewhat worked against Manvel, as those were the two closest regular season games Manvel had. Manvel only won by 15 and 23 points against those two.
 13.
Boxscore says Yates beat themselves w/6 fumbles/losing 5.Yates w/9/14/1=222 pass 42=143 rush=365 tot to Manvels 390 tot.Hoka hey they're beatable,where is Yates ranked ;D
Yup, Manvel's worst defensive performance of the year. Yates gained over 50 yards more than any other team has gained against Manvel. But what Manvel gave up on its worst night is roughly equal to an average defensive performance for Dayton. And on its worst defensive night, Manvel still wins 53-18. Dayton is definitely much better than Yates. So like I said in my earlier post: if Manvel and Dayton both play like they did the last two games, it could be close.
 14. Manvel has not faced an offense that is as pass-centric as Dayton’s yet this year. This will be a good test for them. They have faced two outstanding offenses with very balanced attacks, including great passing games: La Marque and Dawson. LM’s and Dawson’s QBs seem very similar to Dayton’s from a passing efficiency and scrambling perspective. They both struggled against Manvel’s D. Here’s a comparison of the teams’ QBs, along with how LM’s and Dawson’s did against the Manvel D:                       NCAA rating        NFL rating        Rushing YDs      Rushing YPC Manvel (combo)    196.7                  126.7                  822                7.98   McCarley          202.0                  132.5                  211                9.17   Walker            191.9                  121.3                  611                7.64 Williams (LM)        171.0                  111.5                  348                4.97 Kimble (Dawson)  163.5                  109.6                  415                5.61 Herrera              159.7                  109.2                  448                4.98 Williams@Manvel  117.2                    66.0                  17                1.7 Kimble@Manvel      86.0                    48.1                    0                    0 It’s interesting that the only two teams that have had any success in throwing against Manvel are Friendswood and Yates – two teams that are normally primarily running teams. Manvel shut down their running games, but gave up a few long completions to them. But the challenge with trying to play long ball against Manvel is their D line. They will get to the QB more often than not. And the Manvel secondary is better than some may think. They have only given up two passing TDs this year – one for 7 yds and one for 10 yds. Teams may complete an occasional long pass, but it is almost always into solid coverage. It’s very rare for anyone to flat-out beat the Manvel secondary deep. On the other side, Dayton has not faced an offense as balanced and potent as Manvel’s. Dayton’s defense is its weak spot, particularly its rushing D. Dayton’s opponents’ offenses have consistently exceeded their season averages against the Dayton D. The Dayton D will have to really step up to prevent Manvel from scoring at will. Dayton’s advantage is that they seem to be peaking. Their past two games have been among their best of the season, while Manvel has looked somewhat flat in its last two games. If Manvel plays the type of ball they did against La Marque and Dawson, they should win easily. If both teams play like they have the past two weeks, it’s a toss up.
 15. You can watch the entire 2011 LM / Manvel game at [Hidden Content] . that will give you a very different perspective on the game. Manvel put up almost 500 yards on LM, over 200 more than anyone else has done this year. And Manvel's D held LM to only one offensive touchdown. LM fans will probably point out that LM had 3 redzone possessions and did not score due to turnovers or failed 4th down conversions. But Manvel also had three fumbles in LM territory (2 of them unforced) and a dropped pass at the goal line. So both teams left points on the field.

 17.
Big win for da Coogs.BTW T.City beat Sante Fe 60-0,I think FW is out now ;) :o
I wouldn't count FW out yet. TC and FW play for the fourth 24-4A spot next weekend. There are a lot of similarities between the two, and both have performed about the same in their district games. FW's main edge is Coach Van Meter. And FW was off this weekend, so he's had two weeks to prepare his team for TC. TC does have some excellent sophmore offensive talent. QB, top RB and top WR are all sophs. RB and WR are twins. They will be tough offensively the next couple of years, but very weak defensively.
 18.
What is this other board you speak of? And congrats to LM.
Think he is referring to [Hidden Content] - it's titled "Greater Houston" but it is heavily dominated by 23- and 24-4A discussions. And it doesn't have nearly the activity that this board has. Probably more posts in a day here than on the Greater Houston forum in a week. But check it out. Especially with playoff time around the corner, it has some good info on teams you could be seeing soon.
 19. BigOleCountryBoy -- If you feel Brenham is overrated, you must feel someone else is underrated. Who do you think is underrated and should be ahead of Brenham? If region 3 is "extremely weak," what region is stronger? Region 3 had five teams rated in the top 14 in the last AP poll, with Rosenberg Terry likely one of the next top (unrated) teams. Last year, La Marque went from barely making the playoffs to the state final game. Region 3 has a lot of team that can surprise people, so hard to imagine the region as "weak." Regions 1 and 4 both have four teams in the AP rankings. Region 2 looks like the weakest base on AP rated teams. FYI -- You mentioned Dawson. Dawson and Brenham will be in separate divisions. Dawson will be D1, Brenham will be D2. Of the Region 3 rated teams likely to be in D2 (#3 Brenham, #13 La Marque and potentially #7 Manvel), I think Brenham would top La Marque. Brenham and Manvel would be a great regional final. Hope it ends up that way. That winner has a great chance of winning it all (of course assuming Manvel is in D2 and they both make it that far).
 20. Songone – interesting prediction. Just curious – why Dawson in first? We all know early season stats can be misleading, but consider these numbers: La Marque – offensive numbers somewhat padded by 52 4th quarter points in their three blow outs, but their stats also include their one-point loss against Terry and pretty impressive D numbers: PPG  PAPG  YPG  YAGP 56    8        413  115 Manvel – contrast to La Marque, Manvel has pretty much shut down its O in the 4th quarter, except 12 points in the relatively close 44-19 win over Goose Creek Memorial (32-19 at the start of the fourth): PPG    PAPG    YPG    YAGP 47      8          445    143 Pearland Dawson – defense is relatively porous compared to La Marque and Manvel, giving up 261 yds per game. La Marque: 115 yards against (a total of 2 in one game!) and Manvel’s 143 yards against. PPG    PAPG    YPG    YAGP 51      17      496    261 From an offensive perspective, La Marque and Dawson both rely pretty heavily on two players – Williams and Wright for La Marque (563 yds passing, 531 rushing), and Kimble and White for Dawson (923 yards passing, 584 rushing). Manvel has two QBs (each about 460 yards passing) and a pretty diversified running game (no one over 300 yards rushing, but 850 total). Absolutely no disrespect intended towards the other 24-4A teams, but a scenario where La Marque, Manvel and Dawson all end up 6-1 in the district (Manvel winning at home against La Marque, losing at Dawson; Dawson winning at home against Manvel, losing at La Marque; La Marque winning at home against Dawson, losing at Manvel) seems realistic. What are the tie-breakers in this type of scenario? Dawson is definitely div 1, La Marque is definitely div 2. Manvel’s spot depends on who else places in the top four. Friendswood or Ball in – Manvel goes to div 2. TC or SF – Manvel is div 1.
 21. Wow, quite the thread here!
Maybe Manvil will learn how to win when their band learns how to march. What a joke....................

Go back under the rock you crawled out from.  You will be watching the Championship game on TV just like we will.  The only person that should be embarassed is you for your pathetic posts.  You won. Enjoy it.  Your run comes to an end next week.  ;D
Sad, just plain sad to read things like this on this type of site. Last week, it was Willis that played dirty. This week, it’s Manvel. Common factor in both games? PNG. Now there are even comments showing up in this and other threads that La Marque is dirty? Time to remove your rose-colored glasses. I’ve seen Manvel play several times this season. They’ve never had penalties like they had Saturday night. What I saw was PNG players consistently being the instigators by being aggressive well after the whistle.
. . .  I've seen a defense this bad do as much talking as they have done all season. They did more talking than playing. I was sitting down low and we got lucky several time's for talking trash and then Manvel retaliated and got the 15 yard penalty instead. The diffence is they made us pay for our penalties and we didn't take advantage of their's. Manvel had several late hit's and got penalized for most them. Manvel's #12 is a pretty dirty player as he hit several people in the back or blind-sided people after the play. We had our on dirty play's. DJ got put on the ground and he retaliated with a full sprint to level the guy in front of the ref. Padia just flat out hit the guy with an upper cut to the n$ts and got ejected. So before we go on here talking trash on the other team's we better evaluate what we did. We were not angels out there! . . .
As so often happens, the retaliator is the one that the referees catch – not the instigator. Just like in the Texans / Titans game Sunday afternoon. Everyone knows that Finnegan is a dirty player, yet he gets away with s**t all game because he is an expert at hiding his cheap-shots from the refs. Johnson finally retaliates. Fortunately the refs tossed both players and not just Johnson. Same type of scenario happened throughout the Manvel / PNG game, but especially in the first half. Manvel was surprised and flustered by all the post-whistle instigation by PNG players, and retaliated. Extra pushing, hands to the helmet, and flags against the retaliator. You have to hand it to PNG – their tactics kept the game close in the first half.

Manvel plays dirty. 5th personal foul.
They are only hurting themselves ....I hope they keep it up....If they were smart they wouldn't get caught ;D ;D
Sounds straight out of the Finnegan coaching manual.
Its football ,  its a dirty game ...just some don't get caught . :-X, geez everytime there is a play something is getting grabed ..squeezed , hit, kicked , punched, jabbed ,bit, eye gouge  its football. heck I am tired of hearing it....
Manvel’s coach probably gave the team a good talking to during the half time break, and they came out much more focused in the second half. PNG’s instigation continued, but the refs started catching it. 36 gets ejected, 42 gets back-to-back PFs, and the Mavericks focused on their game. Their speed advantage showed through. Game over. The PNG “faithful” start pouring out of the stadium with 10:28 left in Q4. The traffic jam exiting the stadium during Q4 was both amazing and sad. Manvel puts some of its 3rd and 4th string players in with the score 56-21 midway through the 4th, resulting in a safety, PNG having good field position from the ensuing kick, and converting that to a quick TD. That swung the momentum enough to make the game appear close.
Hoka Hey was something the legendary Sioux warrior Crasy Horse was shouting while going to war. "Hokay hey" can be interpreted as "It is a good time to die!" or "This is a good day to die." This is your war Cry, very nice and lots of sportsmanship it shows. Oh wait that is the way you play the game too. Sounds like it should be in a rap songs and not from your classy fans............................
Let’s examine this: Manvel says “hoka hey,” which as you say can be interpreted as “it’s a good day to die.” But that is not quite accurate. The closer translation is “let’s roll” or “let’s do it.” But in any case, it is all about giving it your all. I can’t see how that is anything but a positive message. But how about “scalp ‘em?” Do you know what “scalping” is? It’s cutting off the top of your opponents head – after you have beaten them – as a trophy. Now THAT’S classy!
I swear PNG fans have on blinders. Any game I go to, I can find bad calls, no calls, 'dirty plays' etc.. One of the offensive lineman for PNG was playing dirty every play at the nederland game and never got called for it.. Its just football.. This is the reason i don't go to png games when they are in the playoffs.. png fans should be proud of where they got to considering how the season started.. Quit whining.. You're just making yourself and the entire PNG fan base confirm what so many of us already know...
Great conclusion!
