Ciara Guilhas HF point guard
Marissa Wyatt from Orangefield is having a good year. I think it is too early to say who is MVP in 21 3A. Lots of games left. I saw Ciara play in the Nederland Tournament and was impressed. She is good but MVP talk is a little premature. Long season ahead. JMO!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do believe that nobody said anything about MVP...just sayin...but even if we did say it I feel that it is not too early to pick because Ciara Guilhas has been an asset to her team for 2 years now, working on a third and I believe she has it locked up. -

Her name is Hannah Hulet...be lookin out for her.
Wasn't there a Hulet from Lum? Same one?
Yea...same one...I hear she's pretty good -
Wow you're right he hasn't said anything bad about my team, my teammates, or my coach. Why would I ever defend them? Please forgive me ignorant source (which ironically enough is an incredibly clever name). That's what a team is, they have each others back and it really eats me up when people want to talk bad about the hardest working kid I've ever seen in my life. He passed out after giving blood at 10 this morning, and sure enough still hustled harder than anyone else on the floor this afternoon. I'll take that over a modern day stereotypical superstar any day of the week.
I see your side clearly blacksheep, but maybe you should tone it down a smidge. Take it easy, I know where your coming from, and ignorant source is like you said "(an incredibly clever name). But maybe we should tone this argument down just a bit. Keep workin hard, and HF Varsity PG, keep up the good work.
Kountze will win this one going away. It's been a long time since they played in the Evadale tournament.
It looks rough for HF facing Kountz first, and I do agree that Kountz will take this tourny. Any predictions for other games??

Again no one is denying the kids ability, but you have to give respect to earn it and from the way I've seen him treat some of his fellow teammates, I don't feel as if im ready to give him mine yet.
Let me guess...you are on the Varsity Squad at Hamshire-Fannett High School?? Am i right? I am sure the freshman point guard has respect for the Varsity but not too much because he knows that he has to bust his butt everyday to even get a slight chance to maybe see the floor at 7 on friday nights and you have seniors on the Varsity squad that don't respect him and they have their spots because guess what???? OH YEA...SENIORS HAVE TO BE ON THE VARSITY TEAM!!!
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! you ignorant source. If those seniors didn't have the talent...they would have been cut. I agree that the freshman must work harder at practice to get a shot at minutes on the V-Squad, but that is something that is inevitable. Its early, the coach has seen the freshman just this year, whereas he has seen Varsity players for a while now and knows they have a work ethic that isto be counted on.

Anyone who knows this player knows he wears his heart and hunger to win on his sleeve. It's passion for the game. Got a text from a fellow parent saying the exact OPPOSITE thing...got praise for encouraging his fellow teammates last week. However his appearance to others is something he must be mindful of. Now, he is in no way a perfect, flawless player....I have never witnessed him play an error free game. He needs to work to improve just like the next person. I dont have blinders on . But if we are gonna critique the 9th graders game on skill....let me hear your assessment of the 12th graders last game. No one ,at least I am not saying that kids need to be thrown over the bus...thrown to the wolves but younger players need to be allowed to get their feet wet to see what works best. And the coach did do that last week and I gave him praise for that..thus the reason for this thread. And if my kid ever gets to play at a higher level here at HF if he is screwing up, hurting the team...I will expect the coach to make corrective changes. If he can't cut the mustard then he will have to suffer the consequences....that's life! If that becomes my sons fate...oh well he should work harder! ******Oh and as I recall last year's senior PG was benched to play J.N. (the current varsity pg) who was a junior and NOTHING was said about that. Nobody had a problem with that. So what's the real deal?******
I have noticed that in the past the coaches have moved younger players up during tournament play to see if they have what it takes. I have no doubt that THE freshman PG will have the talent, but as blacksheep said, he may need to be more of a team player to gain the respect of the jv team. Be uplifting when mistakes are made, and the respect will come, although he isn't the captain, act like one. Blue Dove...remind him of this, he wil get respect.
This coach has to have some job security or is being forced to play the guards he's playing on Varsity. H.F starting Pg isn't better then the J.V, Freshman, or 8th grade point guards.Thats sad when your starting Varsity guard can't even go to the Junior High and Earn a starting position. So i must ask, Why is he the starting guard for H.F Varsity??
I believe the reason he is starting guard for HF's Varsity is because he is well respected by his teammates, and it appears that the coaches have faith in him. He has been playing with his teammates for some time now, so there has got to be a team chemistry developed. You won't have that kind of chemistry with a young new talent, no matter how good they are.
I agree to a point. But at the high school level you play your best players who get the job done. This isn't Little Dribblers where coaches try and keep players together, or is it?
I believe that in all reality, coaches do try and keep players together to an extent. If there is talent at a younger level, and alot from what you say, with the junior high guards and freshman team, Let them play together and grow as a team. If you put one or two on varsity, they won't be getting that team building with the teammates of their future. Maybe coach is doing right, and building a strong program for the future?

Very good!
I bet they still need alot more tweeks to compete in 21 3a
A whole lot more. HF is going to have to bring in players from their other teams to play better. They are hurting @ point guard and need to role play or bench many of their vet players.
The point guard position is filled by an experienced senior who has been there through tough losses and great wins. He knows the game and sees the entire floor. Behind him is another experienced senior who rarely scores more than 6 pts per game but always has a number of assists, this is the point-guards job, not to dive the lane and take the shot every time. On the sub-varsity levels you have young players who are still about themselves and not the team. With time and experience they will overcome this, but for now i believe the coach for hamshire fannett knows what he is doing.
I really appreciate what you just wrote. It lets me know more about the mind-set thats going on at HF. Several people have tried to warn me about some things there but I like to give benefit over the doubt. I see what you believe but your record, your history, and the play I see on the court dictates otherwise. Oh, please explain to me how (last Spring)two 7th grade guards and one 8th grade guard (in Little Dribblers) in middle school scrimmaged against your high school guards for 2 weeks. The high school guards kept getting the ball stolen or made bad passes CONSISTENTLY against a press the middle schoolers had. Philly, it was bad!
I have heard of the guard you talking about...Jordan Hunter i believe..? I hear he is good and knows the game...but i was unaware of the scrimmages that went on last spring. I know it may have been bad, and they were beating two varsity point guards, but these were not point guards from HJ, Silsbee, WO-S, the thing im trying to get through to people is the talent on the younger levels, no matter how good, is nothing without experience. The varsity players on HF's squad have to play against some of the best 3A players in the state, its alot different than playing against soon to be greats on the freshman and JV levels.

I know it appears to mamagotjuice that i am "hatin" on the freshman PG from h-f but i don't even know the kid. I seen him play once, and yes he has talent and he plays the game well, but i noticed that he still had some developing to do. I have seen the PG for the varsity level play a number of times and he has experience as well as a great team ethic. I noticed that his teammates saw him as a leader and thats what they need, someone they trust and believe in. So i am sorry for giving the impression that i am "hatin" on the freshman PG.

Who's got a Shot at the Play-offs in 21-3A??

Many people would say that Silsbee and H-J will lead the way, so who will fall into that 3rd place position clenching a play-off birth? WO-S? OF? BC? or HF? I'm just looking for opinions on what it will take to make the play-offs in 21-3A.
I am hoping that you are probably right. However, there are some on this board who have already declared HJ as unworthy of making the playoffs based upon early season performance. I am waiting now for Bluedove to jump on this statement.
I did see HJ play Nederland last tuesday and i was not impressed. I figured it was an off night, and Sutherland was not dressed out? But who knows, they may stay a strong competetor in the district or they may suprise everyone and fall short of the play-offs?? -
