  1. I think Woodville was just outmatched vs. Silsbee...eaglewoodville, i know what you meant, I was jsut trying to point out woodville has more than sells and if they didnt they would have been shut down by every team they played.  And as of yet that has not been the case.  The couple of games I saw, they had a solid 8.  I dont know if I would go further than that.  But a solid 8 that were able to play for 2a.
AggiesAreWe, you are comparing Woodville against the best 3A maybe 4A team in East Texas!!! You know that is not a fiar comparison.
  2. One way to look at is, it seems like the teams Woodville has already played would have played a box and 1 and took him out of the games if that is what it takes to beat them.  From the beginning of the year, that has been the talk about Sells being there only player, so teams know.  They have more or it would would have already happened is what I am saying.  He is good but does not deserve a box and 1.
  3. And CATMAN, the player you are talking about is Joseph Jones from 1A Normangee who played at Texas A&M.  He was 6'10".  Almost 7 foot.  Another small school kid was Chris Anderson from Iola, he is in the NBA, the crazy looking guy.  He too was about 6'9" or so.  Guards are a little different.  A big school will take a chance on kid near 7 foot.  Simply because there are not too many of those guys around.
  4. wshaslum said it best, most of the players will have a shot a the d2 or d3 schools.  And there is nothing wrong with that, there is some good ball and good ball players at that level.  I love to watch the D2 and D3 games. Can the stallsworth kid shoot the long ball, at 6'4" he is either going to have to play point or 2 guard, maybe a little 3 guard if he can absolutley jump great.  It reminds me of a kid from Diboll (and I am not comparing the 2 cause I dont know DC) Jermichael Finely, he is playing pro football now, but I can remember in HS how everyone was saying how he was going to play football and basketball at whatever he wanted.  I said football yes, basketball no.  He was 6'5", very athletic and matured early, but he could not shoot.  There was just no way he could play at the Big Time Level, he could have played D2 somewhere.  If the Stallsworth kid can shoot than he has a chance to play midmajor D1 ball. IMO
  5. There will not be many 3A and below that will play D1 ball.  It does happen occasionally, but it is usually the Player of the Year or a 1st Team All Stater.  And they will be recruited at the smaller D1 schools.  Football is different.  There is more 3A and below that make it to big time football schools, try to name some players in 3A that went to play at major D1 schools in basketball. There are not that many, it takes more skills to play basketball.  IMO  It looks like the Stallsworth kid from Silsbee is the best player in SETexas.  I have never seen him play, I cannot say wether he will or not. If he is only 6'4" he better be a very skilled guard to play D1 ball.  He may be I have never seen him play.
  6. I have to disagree.  That may be what some think is the key to beating Woodville.  They have more than Sells.  They have a very big team for 2A.  Have lots of speed.  All of them shoot the ball fairly well. I think they will get 2nd place in district and you never know from there what will happen.  When it is one and done in the playoffs, it is hard to predict the outcome.  3 rounds deep would be a great accomplishment and could happen, I am fairly certain that they will get the 2nd spot in district.  The thing that will hurt Woodville is that they have already played 2 district opponents and it will be hard to beat them 3 times in the same year. Woden and Newton have a chance at beating them at their places.  But, I think every night everyone has the ability to beat the other.
  7. That is what I was thinking, wasnt sure.  He has a good body, if he can work on his skills this year he could be a real help next year and the year after.  I figured they had a good guard or two on the JV, the JV usually has a pretty good record.  With him an the freshman, Houston brothers they will be alright.
  8. The last game I saw them was the Westwood game so that is good they have corrected that.  That was my biggest concern. They play hard and good defense, I knew they would be ok on that side.  Turnovers is what concerned me.  Ellis does a good job with the ball, he scores moderatly but he makes a lot of good passes and protects the ball, I feel alot better when the ball is in his hands.  When he is not making the decision it is a little worriesome.  I think his abilities are overlooked heavily.  I think he is the best player on the team. The Houston kid can shoot the ball when he is gets hot, he has a nice shot 15-18 foot jumper, but he will not be able to play point next year, they will need someone on the JV to step in and take Ellis' place and they should have that taken care of. And very true, they do have youth, it will basically be the same team but without Ellis the PG. The freshman does not do much in my opinion, I think the Loggins kid does more when he is in, but the freshman has the potential to do some things as he gets older.  If the kids coming back would stay in the gym (which they may) instead of go to the weight room in offseason(I know 3-4 play football) they could be a good team in the next couple of years.  Who would play PG next year?  Who on JV(you know more on their name no look), I know there is someone, who can pick up for Ellis.  Anyway, they need to concentrate on this year, if they do things the right way they have a legit shot at getting the 3rd spot if things fall right.  Im ready to see.  And you are correct, it would have helped tremendously if they had the other two.  I was upset because I knew the guard and he could play. I watched him at Hudson as a soph and he nearly beat Lufkin JV by himself, he had 30 something on them.  I thought he should have played more last year.  But, not my call.  Which kid is the soph, the younger Houston brother or the Cartwright kid.
  9. Another thing I dont understand is Huntington will play a team like CH to within 15 and 12, even though CH probably could have made it worse and they played at Huntington, but still they played a pretty good game against them.  Then I watch them play Palestine Westwood at home and they beat them by 1.  Westwood was one of the worst teams I have seen this year, they had no height or shooters.  I counted the turnovers in the game, neither team pressed, and there was a combined 67 turnovers. Westwood had 2 more than Huntington but they both had over 30 and neither team pressed. There was a few times Huntington ran a halfcourt trap but that was it and both teams combined for 67 turnovers.  I guess what aggrevates me is the inconsistency.  Very fustratrating.
  10. I knew Central wasnt bad.  If they played Center that close at Center.  They are being overlooked and that may be a big mistake. They lost to Woodville 1 at Woodville and now 7 at Center.  If they keep playing like they are they could possibly get in.  I dont know, we will see.
  11. I was looking at Huntington's schedule.  Their first half of the  district schedule is in their favor.  The teams they need to beat they have at home, and the teams they should be able to beat away are in the first half.  They could look pretty good after the first half of district if they come ready to play.  Which should give them confidence heading into the tougher 2nd half of their district schedule.  Huntington has things in their favor this year to get in.  The district is down and the schedule is in their favor at the beginning.  We will see, the odds are in their favor.
  12. Im going on the record now that Central will be in the hunt for a playoff spot or will be a spoiler.
No Look, where were the games played?  Hudson and Diboll?  Center and Central?

18-3A Teams I pick to fight for a top spot:  Center, Jasper, Hudson, Central, Huntington  3 out of those 5, and I have no clue the finishing order.
Diboll and Kirbyville may win some games at home and hurt some district records.
  13. I dont disagree that the Region as a whole may be weaker.  I am not sure how we are represented in the rankings, that would be the best indication comparing it to years past.  If you did take Silsbee and HJ out of their district it would change the complextion of that district without a doubt, it would then be more like 18-3A.  I do not know what district 17-3A is.  I cant comment on the HJ and Hudson game, that suprised me without a doubt.  From the score it would indicate that HJ was not that good this year because Hudson is very down. But I have also seen where HJ has beat some very good teams, so I really dont understand that game.
  14. Agree completely about Center having a tough time beating Jasper or Hudson at their place.  Tough places to play.

That is interesting about Kirbyville, I would think with all the recent success in football that they would not have anyone that had skills.  You are 100 percent correct about them needing to be on JV if they are driving through traffic and pulling up 15 footers.  Those are the shots that will kill you, especially at break neck speed.
  15. Center will be one of them for sure.  They beat Woden 20 and Woden could play or beat the teams you listed above.

Are you talking about Kirbyville in the next few years being good or that they have a shot at being good this year if they were to move some JVer's up?  Just asking, I have no insight at all on them.
  16. I seriosly can not remember in my life time this district being this weak.  It is very watered down which I guess is good for some of the teams that need to get in the playoffs to try and get a tradition going.
And Woodville is a good team, I dont know about well coached.  The couple of games I saw, they did not do anything special but put alot of good athletes and players on the floor. On the other hand, they may be well coached, I do not know their inter dwellings.  I do know they and other teams in the 2A district would probably get the top 3 spots in 18 3A.  I know CH is better than Woodville and Woodville has already shown they can beat 4 teams in that district. I guess a lucky year to be in 18-3A.
