  1. Some of the best post players I have seen at the small school level were between 6'2" and 6'4".  They will more times than not be able to dominate a 6'7" guy in the paint.  This is not always the case but the majority of the time, the 6'3" guys have much better footwork than the big guys and are much bigger.  If a coach is good and he has a 6'2" post against a 6'7" post he will run a quickset to the smaller post pulling the big post away from the rim and the 6'2" player will take him to the basket.  Now if the 6'7" guy can really play he will have the advantage due to height.
  2. I was just curious if Evadale was wealthy and had ever been 2A.  I didnt think it correlated at all to their basketball team.  I am sure what ever money they should have within their district is pulled away from them"hence robin hood" and given to other districts.    I had just heard Evadale at one time was 2A and that had the best facilties you would find anywhere for 1A. That was all I was curious about.  I think Spurger wins concerning the game.
  3. That is why I mentioned I could be wrong and that I had only seen them play once.  I would think the opposite as far as playing hard against Newton, Newton may have not been very fundamentally sound but they had great athletes so I would think that you would have to play your hardest because the tempo was pushed to such a great tempo.  Regardless, when it all comes down to it, I based what I saw off of one game.  Probablly not fair.  But what I saw from that game was the players not playing as hard as they could and a sloppy game.  I know from playing myself, that some games can be hard to get yourself up for and sometimes it dosent seem like you are playing hard.  But in all my years of playing we never had over 16-18 turnovers a game and that was on the highest end.  We set our turnover goal at 10-12 or below a game as a team.  If we went over that number we ran for each one.  And we pressed from tipoff to end of game and got pressed on occasion. This made us control and protect the ball better.  I didnt see that in the game I watched.  But, with everthing being said, I only watched one game so I can only tell you what I thought from that game.  It is probably not a fair assessment unless I am correct.  And playing hard and playing undercontrol are individual assessments.  Some may think 16 turnovers is not bad while some do, and some may think that one team is playing hard while another is not.
  4. If you would have read any of my posts you would know that I have done nothing but brag on Woodville.  Never said anyone was overlooking them and got the win, someone stated that and I said that could be it. I just stated an opinoin that everyone is entilited too.  I even said that I could be wrong.  I never have assumed I have the "hold" on basketball knowledge.  I have seen Woodville play 1 game, and seen alot of scores on here.  I based my opinion of the coaching based off of that.  Could I be wrong, of course.  The game I saw them play, they did not play that hard and were not undercontol on offense.  That is why I bothered to reply.  Wasnt trying to ruffle feathers.  No pun intended.
  5. I have not seen Spurger play, but some people who know the game told me last year that they had a good point and post.  And I am pretty sure they still have those two. I do not know about Evadale. Has Evadale ever been 2A?  And arent they a very wealthy school because of a big timber business in town?  Does anyone know?
  6. Completely agree.  Schedule up.  You do need some teams you should beat to get your teams confidence up.  My coach always scheduled up.  One year, we were 10-11 going into district in 2AA.  We had played all 5a, 4a, one 3a and one 1a.  We beat alot of 4 and 5a teams.  We went undefeated in district (14-0) and made it to the Regional Finals or one game from Austin.  This was when 2 teams made the playoffs, so we went on a 17 game win streak after those tough games.  We could have easliy padded our schedule and went 30 and something, but I dont think we would have made it to the Regional Finals game if we had. IMO
  7. Woodville will win alot of games, already has won a good many.  I would not say they are very well coached.  I would not say that they are not coached.  I am not trying to put down any coach but what I saw from Woodville was alot of height, quick guards, big bodies, and a few shooters. What I did not see was them playing very hard or doing anything special on the offensive end, they ran the flex and if it broke down they gave it to Sells and let him go one on one, they were somewhat undercontrol but at times out of control.  If kids are not playing hard then that is the first sign to me.  Most people today think a coach is doing a overwhelming job if he just gets his kids to play hard.  To be a very well coached team I would expect at least two things, the team playing as hard as they can, scrapping all over the court, and under control on offense.  This means not turning the ball over a considerable amount of times.  If a coach can do that then he is doing all he can.  On the flip side, I do not know the coaches situation, he may not be able to do these things due to admin, football or various other reasons. I was stating what I saw on the floor. And I will always admit that I could be wrong.
  8. Cleveland must be pretty dang good.  Leggett has a pretty good team.  Woden has a good team and beat Leggett earlier in the year.  So with all that being said if Clevland beat then by 33 then they are good.  But, we know in the past that HJ has played them in a way they were not favorable to and they beat Cleveland when Cleveland probably had the better talent.  So it depends on how you play each team.  Some teams can play good a different tempos and some can play at only one tempo.  If you can play at any tempo you will be a hard team to beat, with that being said if you can only play one tempo you will find a team that can beat you somewhere in the year.
  9. You can not go by scores when determining a winner of two opponents who have not played.  You can gain an educated guess but that is it.  I have seen too many games that were 6-8 points game and the team started fouling at the end to try and catch up and if things do not go the way you are hoping then it can turn into a 15-20 point game very quickly.  There are two many intangibles in the game to go by scores.  Let the games be played then talk.  I have no association with either team but I think they will split.  Each gets theirs at home.  At a neutral spot Woodville would probably win, that being said without seeing the 2 from SA that havent joined the team.  But anyone who has ever played at SA knows how hard it is to win their.
  10. I have heard the argument both ways. Small ball vs. Big Ball snd which is the better basketball.  I think it is a personal choice on which you like.  I am more of a proponent for 3A and down.  I think the towns are more into the teams and it brings the community together in some places.
  11. First, WOW!!  Second, "I thought it was just part of the game".  What the heck?  You cant apologize your way out of that.  Im sorry but I would be embarressed even trying to apologize, and he would too if he had any dignity.  He should have apologized to the ref in forum that was not public, in a private manner.  He dont need to go on TV. He should have contolled his emotions better.
  12. That is crazy.  I would be pissed if I was the coach.  That is a simple Bolo screen.  Does the post not have the right to run down the court?  What does the official want him to do, seems like a pretty good way to get the ball up court.  Officials amaze me sometimes.

And I agree completely with who ever said the ballhandler should not be able to use his off hand to push in the direction of the defense.  You can use it to protect the ball and sweep through on an explosion, but the off hand has to go in the direction the player is.
