1. Dude, my sons and daughter play all sports baseball, football, basketball and track,  daughter plays softball, basketball and track! Some people feel that specializing in one sport is better but I think kids should experience different one's! Near their junior or senior year they should know which one gives them the opportunity to possibly receive a college scholarship! Basketball is a great sport as well as the others and I don't agree with year-round anything! I believe each sport is valuable in teaching different skills! As for me being on a basketball site asking about baseball, I was hoping some people realize that they just might want to compare their investments and see which is the best for their child! I did them all coming up and was good at all but my Dad helped me make the final right choice in the end on which sport would take me the furthest and I appreciate that of him! You make your statements where you feel and I will do the same!
I would think as someone who feels kids should experience as many sports as possible you wouldn't be on a basketball forum making a post about playing less basketball and more baseball. Oddly enough, I think anyone who has experienced youth baseball would find your statement about as hypocritical as they come.  I have seen more kids (including my own) quit baseball because it is year around.  Lessons, youth league, select league.  My son had a tournament every weekend for 5 months straight when he played select ball.  No one in the baseball world has room to talk about experiencing other sports. Also, if you are all for the kids experiencing as many sports as possible then why mention scholarships and professional aspirations?  After all, you just want the kids to experience multiple sports, right? Sheesh.....take this crap to the baseball forum where you can find someone who might buy your BS.
2. As a fan of basketball & it being my favorite sport growing up, I have to ask myself now and others why do we saturate the basketball gyms year round and not encouraging our youth to participate in baseball as well! I feel that kids should experience different sports to develop their agility, toughness, speed, hand & eye coordination and overall knowledge! While basketball is played inside of confortable air conditioned buildings, other sports such as baseball is played in the heat! Maybe this is the major factor for kids loosing interest and the fact that it is somewhat boring! Lol Well reality is their are several kids that are vertically challenged, quickness challenged and jumping ability challenged but can shoot or handle the ball but are often left without a college scholarship offer! While Houston Astros professional baseball player Jose' Altuve is 5'5 175lbs and shows that you don't have to be 6'6 or taller too make it big! There are always exceptions to every rule but i see alot of kids who probably would have a better chance of getting a free education on a diamond! What do you think?
 3. Everyone who has football experience knows that the defense is always ahead of the offense in spring or early season! Hervey is a beast in my opinion but 3 long tds doesn't bid well for anyone's defense! For all the local area teams it was just spring ball which doesn't mean a thing because some of those players won't see the field during regular season! Coaches are learning who can really play and who is really just hype! Some players play harder against their own team and don't show up against others! I simply don't put much into determining who's going to do what based on these types of scrimmages! I'll save my true evaluations when reality hits in August!
 4. Never crying, always beat the breaks off P.A. Lincoln & TJ in the early & mid 80's from Hebert & yes at Westbrook when we combined! P.A. is talented true but overall BMT really does have an abundance of talent! Forest Park had a little talent but truth be told, the Pear Orchard & South Park areas produced the better athletes at WB! I route for all BMT teams as well as the one so called power house in P.A., but don't get it twisted, if everyone were in one school in BMT, there would not be this type of conversation going on is all I am saying!

It's kind of funny to me when P.A. says they own BMT, especially when their whole city is grouped in one school! I can only imagine if either of two of BMT High Schools merged, (not all 3 but 2) what would the conversation be like then! P.A. already has difficulty handling either of the High Schools as they are already! I guess this post was just meant to be comical because owning BMT did sound funny! I agree though, Lincoln, TJ and SFA into one school, PAM should never lose a game.

6. Lol, you may have something their!
 7. He probably won't have the luxurie of these types of athletes at his disposal since he can no longer recruit the Odom & South Park Middle School kids to attend Westbrook! The better athletes are staying in their area schools and it will be harder for Westbrook to have the top-notch talent as they did in the past years that came from the Pear Orchard & South Park areas to solidify it's past winning tradition! IJS
 8. Yeah I agree that these kids would really have to enhance their skill level in order to compete effectively in southeast tx. I personally witnessed over 3 dozens of kids who are far ahead of these youngmen even though that is not the end all, but certainly they will have to step it up to become a future college recruit!
 9. Yeah I did not really understand it either, but I was not saying a program could not have immediate success, i was merely speaking on the norm! I've played on teams in H.S. that received a new coaching staff and system and also had 3 different head coaches in my 5yr. college career, i've also witnessed other programs with lots of talent experience a learning curve before they started winning consistently! Therefor as fans and supporters of our teams, let's just remain that way even if they struggle early on! IJS

True but 7 & 9 ,3 & 7, and 0 = 7/9 return starters, 3/7record with no system 0 coaching and no off season the last 2 years; oh you're see a program  with immediate success. So all that learning the system , terminology, trust and responsibilities that's why coaches were HIRED and check Central coach list out youre see most have played or coached the system together they will run and it was with the same type talent level but now more. So we've see  from the two scim,LAMARQUE,FRIENDSWOOD --season -- MEMORIAL,WEST BROOK,WEST ORANGE, then 20-4a oh check your games results I think 4 games were lost by less than 10 pts last year.
??? With a name like understand, I have to admit, I didn't understand your comment. ;D
HAHAHAHA i had to read it a couple of times.... and make some mental corrections to understand it ...
10. No matter what program or who's the coach, each new Head Coach has to train their staff and players to their system if it's not the same as the kids ran the year before with the same terminology! Coaches have to learn their players and players will have too learn to trust their coaches. It's not that simple, every new situation normally has a learning curve and depending on how fast everyone learns their responsibillities and can carry them out depends on the immediate success. Programs not facing any change will have the advantage of famillarity, they may not have the athletic matchups but if you don't know what to do, you probably will struggle. I think Central and Ozen will be fine because of the talent level and if the right players are placed in the positions to make plays, but i think it will take a minute for everyone on their teams to all be on the same page! JMO
 11. Yes I saw them also for a few minutes, their practice was well organized and I saw a lot of big bodies and several athletes! MaGee definitely has something to work with! Good Luck Panthers!
Past by and seen Ozen in pads...
12.
BH is doing the Spring thing also.
13. Yes this seems to be a problem here in the Golden Triangle Area! Many kids need to play with there High School teams during the week and have the option of playing in Select Tournaments on weekends! I'm interested in finding a League as well for a group of H.S. players!
Is there still a Connie Mack League, or something similar?  We are looking for a place that many of our high school players can play together on the same team during the week.  Our players are encouraged to play with a travel team on the weekends, if they are so inclined...but we would like to play some weeknight baseball over the summer.  Does anyone have any suggestions for me?  Thank you!
14. Westbrook: Omar Sneed Luke Jackson James Nance Parish Conner Michael Young & Scott Young (brothers) These guys were talented but you have to know the WB history to know some of these guys!
 15. Yes this is terrible and needs to be addressed! Students, parents, coaches & administrators are all responsible to some degree! It starts at home 1st, (even though kids will be kids) they have to be made responsible for their actions! Some of us on here are not exactly cordial with one another in response to issues that are disagreed upon, therefore some of our kids take up our mannerisms! This seems though its becoming more common and this is definitely not a good thing! I believe Ozen's playoff brawl landed them on probation with the UIL, I wonder what the outcome will be in this situation. Not saying that a program should be punished because of the actions of a few but consequences should be administered in order for those involved can fully understand their wrongs! IJS
 16. You are so right! I'm a Westbrook Fan as well as Central and Ozen! I wish them all have a successful season! I just hope they all are building their program with integrity! Don't know much about this Coach but their are some negative rumors about him in his community that may not bid well for his future at WB! If some of the things being mentioned about him are true, then its going to be rough for Mr. Flanigan to produce! I'm not at liberty to mention any of the rumors but I will say, in my opinion, no playoffs, BISD may be looking for his replacement! IJS  ***Let's Go Bruins!***
i wish i heard the rumors. maybe if the people at his church had heard them they wouldn't have started a petition to keep him. as far as i know flannigan still lives in crosby, his kids go to crosby and i think he still goes to church here. i live in his community and haven't head a peep. 19. Congratulations to Zach and his Family for their hard work and dedication! Receiving a scholarship to further your education and to be able to continue playing a sport that he loves is a difficult and great accomplishment! Job well done!
 20.
Y'all are just pathetic. I'll never understand. Spoken like a true racist. Smh...........
Say mytwocents, get out of your feelings! No one asked you to critique my comment but this is an opinionated site so I gave mine and you gave yours! I'm far from pathetic and if throwing slang makes you feel better then feel free to do so! One thing though, just because people speak politely doesn't mean they are friendly so you may want to hold back a bit on your aggressive, derogatory statements! Free Advise is Better than Bought Advice!
 21. Never said it was only black people who have it hard, maybe you did not understand my statement! I said it was more prevalent in the inner city schools (Ozen, Central!) Such angry, agressive rebuttal, I hope I did not turn up any past issues that have upset you! I'm not saying I'm right nor am I'm saying you're right, I simply stated my opinion through my past & present experiences! I'm about building character not tearing one down so you may be responding to the wrong person or post in that type of harsh manner! Even though baby roosters & hens are poultry there is still a difference! SMH
 22. I'm not here to be argumentative as some may be, I simply believe that there are similar problems in every school whether it be inner city or suburbs, but many of my caucasion friends have experienced a much different up bringing than my afro-american one's! I've experienced going to school in a predominately black school as well as predominately white and although some kids experiences are similar, most often the situation is much more challenging an different in several of the predominately black house holds & schools! I have witnessed kids in both types of schools who had to worry about their lights, gas or water being on when they reached home! Some did not know where there next meal would come from and/or having minimal clothes to wear are even having to baby sit because their Mom had to work two jobs or odd jobs to provide! This is what alot of Coaches will often face in the inner ciy and this is why possessing social work skills could be advantages to their wins & losses as well as character development and a childs overall success! I don't expect everyone to understand this or even agree because its hard sometimes to speak on somethings we lack experience of! Once again Just My Opinion!
 23. Their is an abundant of talent walking the halls at both Ozen & Central H.S. which never see the playing field via grades, campus recruitment or lack of self-motivation! Some of these kids need more parent involvement and men to invest more into their mental development! Many of them face daily obstacles that most could not even imagine! Hopefully these new Coaches can implement a plan to address these issues because at these inner-city schools a coach has to also become somewhat of a social worker to be successful on the field! I'm not sure if schools such as Nederland, PNG etc. experience as many off the field situations as these aforementioned schools do! JMO Producing quality young men has to be a priority as well! This is not said to degrade or belittle anyone's school, just a reality check. At the end of the day, although I would want to win, my head would be held much higher knowing that I helped many more become successful in life than the championships I've won! IJS
 24. Yes you have a point there, the teams he played against are very good and loaded with talent! Noone knows the obstacles he faced in trying to bring that NC program around but if he can duplicate some of his years before NC he should do just fine! Once again OPTIMISTIC!
 25. This is an interesting hire at best! I'm curious to see how the community and present coaches respond to a coach with recently 3yrs. of a loosing record? It seems as though it may be difficult to convince people that you can win if you haven't done it in a while! I'm not saying he won't or can't but I would have thought that they would have sought after someone who has currently demonstrated success! Makes you wonder about the people who are doing the decision making and their experience dealing with athletics? Hmm! Hopefully he can take the football program to a higher level so let's give him a chance to prove himself and see. Let's be OPTIMISTIC!
