1. YES, CONGRATULATIONS JAGS, GOOD GAME, HOPE YOU ALL CONTINUE YOUR SUCCESS!
2. I SAW HIM THROW A FEW OUT ATTEMPTING TO STEAL DURING THE OZEN GAME THE OTHER NIGHT. HE DOES HAVE A GOOD ARM AND IS A PLAYER TO WATCH. HE BATTED WELL ALSO ALL THOUGH I GOT THEIR AROUND THE 3RD INNING! CONGRATS JAGUARS ON THEIR DISTRICT WIN AGAINST THEIR CROSS TOWN RIVAL!
3. It's funny that a school made up of the whole city of PA doesn't realize that if the whole city of BMT was concentrated into one school, that there would not be much for them to brag about then! I would imagine, instead of BMT schools being 1 good player deep at a position, they would have 3 quality players at each position! PA should be stronger but the game still has to be played for 4 quarters so let's see how it ends!
4. I just read this post and have a team that may be interested in playing from the Beaumont Area! Is this tournament a definite, if so I can speak with them about working on their schedule to be able to participate. Sounds like it would be a fun, competitive tournament!
5.
And where will this TALENT that is going to saturate Ozen and Central for baseball coming from. Have they been recruiting. Not saying they can't have some solid teams every now and then but I figured that with all the talent they have in Football and Basketball that Baseball takes a back seat to what athelete's play.
No disrespect Coach85 but the talent has always been their, getting multi-talented athletes to commit to baseball has been very challenging! Sports such as football & basketball has been more appealing to most kids because its fast pace, baseball is slower and you have to put alot of time into being detailed! It appears boreing to most kids because you have to do many of the same drills daily and sometimes you are standing in an outfield or infield waiting for your one moment to participate! Imagine some of the most talented athletes concentrating on the sport of baseball, developing hand and eye coordination year-round! Their are some kids who are beginning to understand the overwhelming opportunities that this sport provides if they focused more on developing their knowledge & skill of the game! Many of the best baseball players at schools such as Central & Ozen never touch a baseball again after their 7th grade year, this is why these schools struggle developing solid programs! Not to mention the cost of joining a travel team or the equipment cost that some can't afford to continue their development! Also schools such as Nederland, Port Neches, LCM & Vidor have more than one Coach with experienced assistants and strong Little League feeder programs which assures solid baseball programs year-in and year-out! Hopefully BISD can help their baseball programs grow by addressing this!
6. Ozen future looks bright with the hiring of the right Coach who can add multi-dimensional looks on offense as well as defense! Next years sophmore class has a talented group and the 8th grade incoming players from Odom (this years big school District Champs) and South Park (this years small school District Champs) will give them a good chance at a District Title! The next Coach will have to get there Juniors & Seniors ready quickly to be in the hunt for a playoff appearance! As for Central H.S. they have tons of talent returning and with the right coach they will be very strong for the next couple of years! They are very young and also have a good Freshmen group coming in for next school year! Whoever gets this job will have talent & more talent! BISD the ball is in your hands, just don't make another poor decision!
7. Ozen will probably surprise a few teams with their addition of some up & coming young talent to help feel some holes. It's possible for them to even sneak in the playoffs this season with some steady play but will difinetly battle! Their future will be very bright in 20-4a as some very talented freshman and incoming freshman next year will bolster their lineups with speed, skills and lots of true baseball experience! Central seems as well to experience a rise in their overall play as their schools will begin to be saturated with athelets who take baseball seriously as their primary sport! JMO
8. Central does have an inside presence in Wilridge who plays big at times but is definitely a talent to be recond with! He can shoot and put the ball on the floor to get better positioning. His rebounding can get a little better in my opinion because he sometimes misses a few he should get, but overall this sophmore is a special talent! Their guards are young and inexperienced but Central always seems to posses the best athletes in the area! Ozen on the other hand has good athletes with pretty good basketball IQ's which I think may give them an upper hand in the end! Should be a pretty good season for both teams though, I'm ready to watch both of them make a run for the State Title! Let's see what happens!
9. 20-4a will come down to guard play and Central seems to be lacking on their perimeter! Their inside players are solid with their stud dunking and blocking shots as an enforcer but once again you have to have solid guard play! I haven't seen Nederland yet but I have seen Ozen a couple of times and they have about 6 talented ball handlers, defenders and shooters on the peremiter! If Jordan Hunter plays to his potential, their is no guard in this area that can match his ability to score at will! Jacobi Jones is a fearless player and adds spark coming from their bench! I think Ozen will be the major team to contend with in 20-4a this season! MO
10. The Westbrook vs. Ozen game was intersting because Westbrook Coach subed an entire 5 as usual and lost momentum. They had an opportunity to put away Ozen who struggled offensively! Ozen's Jordan Hunter had a horrible shooting game but did hit some key free throws that helped his team, along with Jacobi Jones's key drives, steals and buckets! I think WB will have a solid team and the Green & Zeno combination can carry them this season! Overall, I think Ozen will have the advantage over most teams with their guard play and the pressure they can bring when needed! They have at least 6 talented guards and Damascus Sams was injured and is a pretty good player! It should be an interesting season this year for SETX Teams!
11. T'Lae Athletics - Skills Trainning is currently working with groups/individuals in the area of increasing speed & agillity in athletes! Our staff consist of former College Atheletes who have excelled in the sports of football, baseball, basketball and track & field! Former Central H.S. Stand-out & U.S.A. Sprinter Ivory "Chopper" Williams is part of this talented Coaching Staff! Contact: (409) 466-9181 for more information!
12. Ozen returns: Nekia Jones (G, F, P), Sanquisha Rawls (F, P), Bealoved Brown (G, F), Jerica Bolin (P, F), Makayla Beckett (G, F), Alexandria Moten (F, P)! This team will have experience, height, speed and depth. They will definitely be hard to beat again this year!
13. I'm a fan of WB but they may struggle a bit more in the near future with all the sudden coaching changes that occurred! Besides, Ozen probably will get the cream of the crop from South Park Joe Thomas rb/lb, Jawon Mitchell qb/s, Elishah "Li Li" Simpson r/cb and some other good ones! Also talk is Odom's cream of the crop Calvin "Lil' C." Tyler rb, Christopher Bishop qb/s and Jamie Wheaton r/lb and a host of others will also be wearing Ozen's Blue & Gold next year! These guys are some of the best talent accross the state and should bolster their program!
14. I gotta hand it to Vidor, their players played hard all game and their overall coaching experience showed up at critical moments in the game! Ozen kids played hard, I believe that when their coaches figure out how to get the ball to their key players in space and not be as predictable on offense, they could do some great things this year! Their defense is solid, but inexperience at QB will make it difficult to run their spread offense! Just my oppinon!
15. Odom Middle School 8th Grade team is! It will be interesting when they play the P.A. team that is undefeated, both have good talent!
16. Not trying to be funny nor disrespectful but the S.T.A. Raiders organization is made up of several youth who are from single parent homes and are financially challenged. The Coaches are serogate fathers to many of the youth and probably face many different obstacles in maintaining a program than most! They don't recruit and take any kid that wants to play whether they have skills or not! They were once the laughing stock of Pop Warner 5 years ago but in the past couple of years have become the most difficult team to beat in their league on all levels! If they did not loose some of their better players each year to the weight limit, they probably could compete with the best in any league! They have good Coaching and some very talented kids! They will probably be leaving Pop Warner this year do to the limited weight a player can weigh, so maybe everyone else can get a better evaluation of them! IJS
17. My personal opinion is that our 7th grade teams in Beaumont basically loose a whole year of quality training due to the focus on 8th grade football and the limited game time! Most games do not last an hour most of them last about 50 minutes due to either referees or teams showing up late. Most kids would benefit from playing little league as 7th graders because of the focus they would receive on development and the amount of game time experience they would receive from playing in games that last two hours. I kept all three in a little league program throughout their 7th grade year and all 3 of them started 8th grade on up! They knew more than the other kids and was use to different situations because of the amount of game time experience. As for the coaching, well let's just say, some don't have football experience or knowledge and some that do only have it up to a certain level! I hate seeing kids being played out of position, lining up wrong or certain offenses or defenses being played that don't fit there personel. I guess it is what it is! I think the STJFL would do a great service in allowing 7th graders to participate, after all, it is about the kids!
18. central looked impressive on both sides of the ball 20-4A look out they're back and ain't playing any games 8)
19. Shout out to Ozen Boys Basketball Team & especially their Coaches for a very good season!  These Coaches have dealt with alot of criticism in comparison to former coach Andre Boutte and his previous success!  After dealing with major discipline problems from some players who played major roles in the beginning of this season and is now no longer apart of the team, managing practices and game planning, dealing with difficult parents and spectators, even administrative staff at times, they've managed to hold this program together! In a very short period of time, Coach Marcus Saveat has brought Ozen's Basketball program back to being respected. Whether you agree with his methods or coaching style the results speak for themselves. His not being afraid to discipline and release very good players from his team to teach them and every other team member that negative behaviour will not be tolerated shows that he is about developing quality character as well! If you've ever coached or ran a program facing as many obstacles, then you may be able to appreciate his accomplishments! Way to Go Panthers! Keep It Going!
20. Thanks Emilio, Your information was helpful and I will continue to research this field.  If I have some questions I definetly won't hesitate to call!
21. Hello Select Baseball World, My son is turning 13 this January and is interested in playing select baseball this year! He is a multiple sport athlete who QB his Little League team to a 10 - 0 Pop Warner Area Championship this year! He also won the State Hershey's Track Meet 400m Dash and 2nd place in the Softball Throw!  He also won 1st place in the 200m dash in Houston's Taaf Regional Meet Track Meet this summer! He also helped his 12yr. old Little League team to Beaumont City Championship Game for the 2nd time in his short 3 year baseball carrier.  He has made it to the Regionals Pitch, Hit & Run Competition in Houston the two years that he has competed in it!  He can play almost every position on the infield and outfield execept catcher and bats right/throws right but has been working hard on batting from the left side and showing great strides!  He is also an A,B student and comes from a Christian background! If you are from the Beaumont or immediate area and think he may be someone you can work with, please give us a call! I have a Little League program but he has exceeded the age limit. Thanks, Coach John! 409-466-9181
22. Hello everyone, I am currious to know how to involve several of our economically disadvantaged youth in select baseball!  Many talented youth give up on baseball because of the over-whelming cost of the sport!  I know of several players who happen to be minorities who have potential to be great in this sport but simply can't afford to compete at the select level! I am interested in possibly starting a group under our non-profit youth programs but need some in-sight on how this all works!  I have coached in two of the last three city major league baseball championship games and realize that their are kids that could have a future in this sport!  If you have any helpful information to what it would take to start a select team and or would like to help sponsor one, please let me know! Ages: 13u & 12U  Contact: John 409-466-9181
23. It would be nice to see which teams really are strong in this Southeast Texas area! Our Success Through Athletics (S.T.A. Raiders) 9 year old team also went undefeated this year and allowed only 2 touchdowns during the regular season! We play in the Pop Warner division and many of the kids have promising futures! In fact, all 4 of the S.T.A. Raider teams made it to the Area Championship Game and 3 of the won the title! The program is only in its 4th season and will be something to recon with in the years to come! It would nice to have everyone compete in a Calvacade!
24.
What city is your team out of?  We used to play with the Beaumont Crusaders(2007-2009), but only had two other teams locally to play against, the Port Arthur Bees and Port Arthur Cowboys.  It got old playing the same two teams over and over. Good Luck to yall!
Our Team is also from Beaumont, Texas.  We practice at Charlton Pollard park in the Southend of town!  Most of our kids are from the Southend, South Park and Pear Orchard areas and we have 96 football players and 14 cheerleaders.  We do have several players from the Westend and Northend of town also!
25. Congratulations goes out to the Success Through Athletics (S.T.A. Raiders) for their outstanding 2011 Season!  All 4 teams made it to the Pop Warner Area Championship Finals and the Flag, Mitey Mite and PeeWee teams came home with 1st Place Trophies!  The Junior PeeWee team lost to the Beaumont Crusaders by a touchdown after a questionable penalty from the Referee for Raiders having 5 men in the backfield in a pro-set! The play was a 60 yard touchdown on a quarterback sneak with 2:00 min left to play in the 4th quarter, after the line judge spotted the receiver as being lined up properly!  I think they got us after I checked out his job duties! Definition: The referee is the official that has control of the game and is generally the final authority in all decisions. Among his duties are: • Announce all penalties • Explain penalties to the offending team's captain • Explain penalties to the head coach of the offending team and inform him of who it was called against • Position himself in the backfield, approximately 10 yards behind the quarterback, before each snap • Monitor illegal hits on the quarterback • Watch for illegal blocks near the quarterback • Determine whether the yardage chains should be brought on the field for a measurement You can tell the referee from the other officials because he is the only one that wears a white hat. All other officials wear black hats. This program is only in its 4th season and will be playing for an opportunity to play in the National Championship Tournament at Disney World in Orlando Florida! They will play against the College Station Raiders on this up coming Saturday in College Station Texas! Wish Them Luck!  Between the 4 Raider Teams they have lost a combined 3 games total with the Mitey Mite and PeeWee Teams going undefeated! WAY 2 GO RAIDERS!
