And Folks, that's spoken before there is even a rumor of who the new coach will be.  Apparently Mr. BG sees no one better out there than Coach Nelson.  Oh well. 8)
We shall see.  ;)
With you on this Buddy. Firing Jeff Nelson is a mistake, IMO. Ozen was going in the right direction.
 2. Congratulations Montana, you deserve all the accolades you received. Greatest football player in Pirate history...it was a pleasure sitting with your parents and watching you play. Looking forward to watching at the next level wherever you go.
 3.
I saw him play three times last season and again I say he is an average at best high school football player. Just because he wins some award doesn't mean Lamar should waste a an offer for him. I'm sticking to my opinions and I think there is a lot of better players in southeast texas its all politics.

Just because he played well in high school doesn't mean lamar should sign him. He is average. Just because golden triangle sports reporters voted doesn't mean he is the best player. Kevin Shorter for one example is a better offensive player. Just my opinion. But congrats to him
EagleFan01...I support your Eagles and Shorter but to call him average you are wrong....He played against a lot of talent in his district and was deserving of this award....And if you didn't get to see him play you missed out, because the kid played with heart.... As for Lamar....I would want better him, because they are.....well you all know....

This is one of the most idiotic things I have ever seen. Forget the Willie Ray Smith awards, let's talk about being all State both ways!!! In 4A!!! I guess the Associated Press is wrong too.
 4. OK guys, I know this is off topic, but tomorrow is the day and you better get your lady something or you will live to regret it. I feel it is my duty to look after the health and well being of my fellow high school sports fans. BTW, don't fall for that old "I don't need anything this year" trick. I promise you will suffer forever for that and they DON'T forget.
 5. Where is SoulJa in all this? Did he apply for the job?
 6. I'm not saying a thing...quiet as a mouse. Remember, it's the post-Montana era now....
 7. Anybody know where the game is being played? Has it been decided yet?
 8.

ONe fan called him XBox Kenny. One F-A-N. PAM has talent, but compared to some of the other region 3 5A schools they aren't anymore loaded. Remember PAM was a combination of 3 schools, but they still have a rather small enrollment in the 5A ranks and it's shrinking. I think Kenny has done very well with PAM. Jeff Mathews has done a good job with Vidor, but they are 2-3 in the playoffs the last four seasons and didn't win a DC, actually finishing 3rd twice and folks forget three years ago they were 2-8. In comparison Faircloth at PNG in that same time frame has one DC and two 2nd place finishes and went 3-3 in the playoffs, but folks remember only this past seasons 2-8 team. Faircloth's teams have been better than Mathews teams over that span, not by much.             Overall      Dist        Playoffs PNG      28-18      18-10        3-3            1 DC - 2 2nd Vidor    28-18      17-11        2-3            2 2nd - 1 3rd This is why I can't put Mathews in the top 5...Because I can't put Faircloth in the top 5.
NDN, the difference is PNG historically has had decent teams with a state appearance in 99 along with several playoff berths recently before BF took over. Matthews took over a dead program and brought them to life. There may have been one F-A-N that said that about Kenny, but there were several that were bashing him. It's not like there are alot of PAM fans on here anyways. ;D
Totally agree with BH Fan on his picks and comments here. Jeff took us from nothing, I mean nothing, to a contender in every sport we play. If the thread were about ADs, I would put Jeff at the top of that list. As a football coach, top 5. Hard to argue with Neumann and Harrison and their success. Thompson @ WOS stepped into a winning programs with D1 class athletes...I have issue that he needs to win state considering the talent he has. He has a hard time beating us. Coach Gage @ BH is a consistent winner in the same image as Vidor with minimal talent. Faircloth stepped into a well established program and it fell this year; he has to prove he can pull teams from the doldrums and build his own program from the ground up.
 9. What words can describe the sorry I feel for your departure. Frozen Baby, probably the greatest piece of literature ever penned came from your hands on this forum; I will keep the PNG thread forever. I only hope you check in from time to time.  :'( :'( :'( :'(
 10. With one of the sickest basketball moves I've ever seen, Blair took over the game at the end to win for the Pirates. Kept her dribble while being tripped down to her knees, came up with a great fake to go through the two defenders guarding while still on her knees, went through two more defenders to the hoop to lay it in. I believe she could play on most boys teams. Knocked down the two free throws at the end to seal the victory. Plenty of college coaches there looking on. BTW, did I also mention she is homecoming queen? TOUGH!!!
 11. What was the final score mytwocents?
 12.
It will be the Vidor Pirates 2013 not Mighty Pirates. Are you stirring the pot little buddy. lol
Stirring the pot is my middle name.
 13.
What kind of baby league are they playing in cause around here we have TIFI and I havent seen a Vidor team in any of that. I do see LaPorte and Deer Park and Barbers Hill and Dickinson and Galveston and the list goes on but go ahead and proclaim your kids the super bowl champions. Everybody gets a trophy, come here little Timmy.
For someone who just got their first 4A playoff win, I can understand your concern with the kiddie leagues. I'm talking EAST of the Trinity River here, don't really care what happens on your side of Chambers County.
 14.

All's I got to say is that the Black Pearl rules the Neches now, not a bunch of purple indians in canoes...
You sure do love stirrin dontya rob  ;D
Yup! It's fun! You had to play eight homecomings in a year like my senior year to truly appreciate dishing it back out.
 15. All's I got to say is that the Black Pearl rules the Neches now, not a bunch of purple indians in canoes...
 16. God bless those childen and those families. Hard to stop a suicide bomber. I wanna know where the school security was? How did he get access to those children? That's the root of the problem...you change all the sickos from attempting to ply their craft no matter what you do. He/they should not be able to get into that school that easy.
 17. Totally agree with the sophomore scenario, Tim. I see perhaps five or more making an impact with the varsity including the next Quirante, Mason Mathews, the running back #20 whose name I can't remember now and moving up a couple of the O-line for playing experience. We talk so much about skill positions on this board but IMHO, our bread and butter is the O-line which we do as well as anyone in district. Any team who can take on a bunch of 250 lbs+ kids with a bunch of 200 lbs-ers does offensive line well. Word is that Hartman is coming back and boy would he be a big help. Firmly believe that he would have been all-district this year had he been able to play. You know, it's up to Jeff and his coaching staff and how hard these kids work this summer. You could even have the 2010 scenario where we go 2 - 8 and the next year three rounds deep. I believe this bunch of upcoming sophomores are capable of that. Junior High teams look great with one kid coming who could make us forget Montana (if you believe that). Personally, I think the future looks bright for Pirate football if we keep our current coaching staff. Guys like dustoff are doing a great job with the kids at the youth level. Really exciting to be talking about football after all these years....
 18.
how did vidor get to play in that tournament when png beat them in the super bowl?
It was reported in the Vidorian...it has to be true!
 19. OK Pirate fans, help me out filling in the slots for next year's Black Pearl season. This is the way I see it: OFFENSE Quarterback: I'm thinking Sage Smith will take over and do a great job. Running Backs: Geth Simmons and Jeremy Stephenson (if his knees are better). Not sure about fullback. Offensive Line: Our strong point. Returning everyone except Devon including the rotation sub. Wide Receiver: Do we really need one? Tight End: Help me out. DEFENSE Defensive Line: returning two rotation guys. Expecting a lot of help from freshman Hester (beast). I'm also hearing that Bradley Hartmann may be back after missing this year from his accident. It would be great to have that monster who started on the 2011 playoff squat as a soph. Linebackers: Sage Smith, DJ Aull, Celly Thomas. Anyone else? Backfield: Alex Boutte was great filling in for Bryce Cooper @ safety. Cornerback has me concerned. Help me out with some names and thoughts. Kicker: returning all-District second team Micheal Tamayo who was crucial in a couple of games for us. Intangibles: our coaching staff has grown into one of the best in the area if not the state. Jeff takes chances at crucial times and usually wins his gambles. Winning in all sports extends from little league to the top and is expected. These kids play with heart. Don't change a thing about our offense or our defense. Robanadana fearless prediction for 2012: 7 - 3; 5 - 2 in district.
 20. I'm expecting between 6-4 and 7-3 season next year. We're not in bad shape returning our offensive line and plenty of underclassmen who saw varsity experience. Jeff and his coaching staff have the Pirates poised to compete.
 21. Congratulations dustoff on your kids winning state with VPIFA. The future of Pirate football starts with you guys!!
 22. Congratulations Dogs on a great season. Enjoyed watching you in the playoffs. Still the king until someone dethrones you.
 23.
62 JJ, I don't think the guy was being cocky when he stated "don't get hung up on position". Think he just misinterpreted your question. To answer your question, some time in the 90's they stopped placing all MVPs and any other superlative awards within the first team. This gave them an opportunity to place a few extra kids on first team. As far a Montana Quiranta goes he may or may not have been the best QB or LB, but he was hands down the Most Valuable Player in the district excelling both ways. If you were playing Vidor that coming Friday Night, you spent much of the week centered around him on both sides of the ball.
1800 yards rushing, 30 TDs and starting middle linebacker on anybody's defense. I'm really gonna miss 'Tana. The greatest football player in Vidor Pirate history, hands down. Thanks for all the memories Mr. Quirante. I sure hope the Aggies have made you an offer....
 24. Robert Mitchell has the best arm I saw this year with the exception of the kid from Georgetown. I think he would be a great fit for Lamar and should take the offer...free education.
