2. Montana Quirante for both awards. He scored four rushing touchdowns and played middle linebacker allowing only 7 points in two games. Even Bobby Bouchet couldn't do that.
 3.
Bridge City looked to have some very good parts.  They broke tackle after tackle all night.  They took some big hits and never quit.  I think Bridge City is much better than their 0-2 record would indicate. For Vidor, too many mistakes and too many penalties.  But it is hard to complain about 45-7. Go Pirates!
Agreed daddy23. We put the ball on the ground three times as well....definetly need mistake free football come district.
 4. We'll pass out some sunscreen and water at the Boneyard...don't want to see the chihuahuas dehydrate....
 5.
Congrats to Vidor on the win. Really good team for sure. Good luck to y'all during the rest of the season and playoffs. To BC, Keep your heads up, that was an awful tough team you just squared off with. A tough way to follow a really good Newton team, brutal 2 weeks for sure. Be proud you didn't quit, put this one behind you, and go to work on next week. Rake1
BC has a lot to look forward to. Stump will have them back to top in no time. Rake1, who was that #34 for BC? He was a beast at running back.
 6. Congratulations nederville....looking forward to the non-rivalry [move]"DECIDER IN VIDOR[/move]"!
 7. Called this one in my picks....the Rattlers are for real!!!! My wife is from that area.
 8.

Just seen on Facebook Vidor wins 45-7!
I can't either! This going to be the REAL test before district. Lets hope Mathews can tweak that secondary this week.
I agree. The secondary was a little lax tonight. Playing zone and watching the quarterback will get us burned....we need to watch those receivers a little closer. All in all, a good performance against a team that always plays Vidor tough.
 9. When is Jon Boy gonna see more playing time? BTW, can anyone tell me what happened to Brad Hartmann, last year's starting nose guard? Did he transfer?
 10.
Vidor's preseason schedule is simply not as strong as the Jefferson County 4A schools.  I am a huge Pirate Fan, but our non-district schedule has be historically weak.  Some of stems from our Losing Tradition and I think a practice of trying to schedule some "winable" non-district foes.  But of late, some of comes from an inability to get opponents who will play us.  I am not trying to be a martyr here.  I just think schools have traditional opponents and even when those match-ups change through the years, other programs do not have much of an incentive to schedule  Vidor.  Historically, it was a game that you are supposed to win and there was big downside if Vidor pulls the upset.  Maybe if Vidor can build a playoff tradition, it will help motivate more schools to schedule Vidor in the future (but to be fair, going to the playoffs 2 out of 3 seasons is simply a possible start such a tradition). A final factor that may limit Vidor's ability to schedule is it's unique offense.  It does not make sense for a team to scheme against a unique system for just 1 game.  I really do not know how much that affects coaches in there scheduling mindset.  I know it would factor in for me. But I wish Vidor fans would not try to trash talk when people call our preseason schedule weak, because it is simply not as strong as some others.  But none of that means that we can't win district this year.  8)  But it does make it hard to gauge just good we really are vs how weak are opponents happen to be.
C'mon now daddy23, trash talkin' is what this board is all about. Besides, I have a lot of faith in ol' #23.
 11.

Tonight is a huge game for both Vidor and Livingston players and coaches.  For Vidor, a win means the first playoff birth in almost a decade and only the second (I think) in my lifetime.  (I realize that half the teams now make the playoffs but I do not think that reality undermines my point).  Before the Opening Kickoff, Before the Coin Toss, Before the band plays the National Anthem, outside the Pirate Locker Room, a couple hundred young men gather.  These young boys, ranging in age from 5 to 14, will come because some Little League (or Jr High) coach told them that the Vidor Pirates need their help.  They need some extra support from these little Pirates.  Maybe all of those little Pirates gathered outside the locker room will give the Varsity Boys the extra fire that they need to come out strong, play hard all night, and obtain the victory.  Maybe those little faces and voices will be just what the Varsity Pirates need. But I know at least 3 (and I guess many more) of these young men are really counting on the Pirates tonight.  While these boys are still young, each of them know how long it has been since Vidor went to the Playoffs.  Each of them have heard parents, teachers, and friends comment that "These are the games that Vidor loses."  Each of them have been exposed to the tradition of losing that some Pirate Fans have embraced.  If the Pirates fall short this evening, then life will go on for everyone involved.  (I am not trying to make more out of this than it is--it is just a game.)  Coaches will keep coachings.  Players will continue to be students.  And Fans will return next season to cheer on the Team again.  However, if we win tonight, then it will be a Spark of Hope (hopefully just one of many) that these Young Pirates outside the Locker Room will always remember.  They will remember the night that the Pirates won the big game--the night when Vidor's team came up big.  And no matter how many games they may lose through the years;  And no matter how many times their team may be outmatched, tonights victory can be one that gives hope and inspires a whole generation of Young Pirates.  For that reason, I am hoping (and may even utter a little prayer--although I am sure that God doesnt give a dang) that the Pirates come up Big Tonight.  And although I hate to wish for another team's (full of equally deserving young men) season to end, I am headed to the stadium with more hope for a victory than I can ever remember--Hope for the Sake of those Young Men outside the Locker Room
I am shameless bumping an old thread that I started almost 3 years ago.  But after a historic season for the Pirates last year.  And after 2 solid scrimmages and a shutout opener.  I cannot help but look back on that November night in 2009.  There is a different confidence that flows from the Pirate Football players and coaches.  Not a immature cockiness, but a confidence that they can play and compete with any team they come up against.  We are a long ways away from building a winning tradition in Vidor Football.  But I sure like the way it is headed in the last 3 years.  Hats off to Jeff, his staff, and all those young men!

Made me cry...Hope Vidor does well this season! All the smack talk aside...love being in district with Vidor and the atmosphere when we play the Pirates. ;D
This is the first time I read it and truly inspiring 23! Indianforever, I'm also glad we are in 20-4A also with the like of y'all that brings great tradition! I can't help but get excited each and every time our Pirates face the Indians it truly is an awesome atmosphere. ;D
20-4A is the best district in the state with some great rivalries. Time for a state championship to come from our ranks.
 12. Central 28, Westbrook 14. I believe Central has the talent and the coaching situation is more stable than Westbrook.
 13.
Another weak preseason opponent for Vidor, the real test will be next week against Clear Brook.
Lets see: last year perennial state power Texarkana Texas High was a "weak preseason opponent" for the Pirates and BC was "a good test". Now, though we play a series with BC (Jeff Mathews is from there), BC is part of the "weak preseason opponents" we play. I see PNG has scheduled some powerhouses this year. Get real. You'll get to test us out Oct. 26th in the Boneyard for our homecoming. But wait, we might get accused of playing a "weak regular season opponent."[move] GET SOME!!![/move]
When they get alcohol sales passed.  ;D
didnt they already do that
Yes, but copper thieves stole the still in the woods behind the stadium and they are waiting on parts ;D
. We had the same problem until we voted in alcohol. Nuthin' worse than copper theivin' cusins....
 15. Max Preps has Vidor ranked 4A #16. Who you gonna believe????
I'm supposing that Vidor's defense (9 returning starters) isn't stout and that Nederland is gonna run amuck on us in Vidor, just like they did last year at chihuahua stadium. Not to say that Santa Fe was anything special but they didn't make a FIRST DOWN until the second half when the sophs were playing. Also, Nederland didn't have the answer last year to Vidor's running game even though we lost Bollinger early on; it's based upon execution and deception instead of brute strength. Both mid-county teams play us in the Boneyard this year...you better hope they bring the vaunted mid-county officiating with them...
One thing for sure...  That famous 'scoreboard' at the boneyard will be present.  ;D ;D ;) ;)
C'mon Soulja, help a brother out....
 19. You know I'm gonna throw Montana out there but I want to put another name in the ring. Jon Boy Smith should get some serious looks this year at both tight end and defensive end. He's a beast of a player and great kid. BTW liltex, we have our own Juan Carranco coming in Jesus Tamayo Jr. Watch that name kicking field goals for Vidor this year.

I saw crosby scrimmage the week before yall played them. I think if you would read my previous post I picked ned to win.
IMO, people put a lot weight into how good the Walter twins are but forget how much Crosby lost last year to graduation and that they have a new coach. Two junior football players don't equal a good football team.
 22.
Logic says Nederland is the DC's and returning a ton from last season so I cant see it changing for the team who came in 3rd last season.
We returned the same amount of ballplayers. Nederland beat us last year on a fourth and 18 in their stadium. This year it's in VIDOR...apparently that doesn't mean anything to the pundits. BTW, the last time ned played in Vidor, they lost.
 23. Jeff gets posterboard material for a year. OldCrotch has been hittin' the cough syrup really hard.
