Montana's an extremely good kid and comes from a Mormon family. He'll do well at BYU. I don't know what we would do without the Mormon congregation; we get a lot of our athletes out of that church.
 2. Montana Quirante of the Pirates is getting a lot of interest, especially from BYU.
 3.

I'm thinking that the region makes up the schedule. Might be wrong, but thought the region did the district schedule. Anyone know ?
The district schedule is created by the district coaches/district executive committee.  It is usually done by a draw.
Let's see; we'll play Nederland in Nederland and PNG at Indian Stadium again this year because that's the way it always is....
 4. Concerning Vidor's football schedule as part of this discussion was about it, the fact is that a lot of teams would not give us a home and away, not that he wanted to play weaker teams. Jeff had to pick teams that would play us and COME TO VIDOR which used to be an issue. Texarkana Texas High is a state playoff caliber team that accepted the slot vacated by another school. I think the quality of teams in preseason is picking up especially adding Clear Brook and Santa Fe; I like seeing us get out of the area. We have a quality football program and community which we need to showcase outside of the Golden Triangle. Jeff will always play BC because he is an alum and wants that smackdown. Besides, they always put a good team on the field with the type of offense we face in 20-4A. Jeff Mathews and his staff have done more for Vidor in the last ten years than anyone else I can think of in the last fifty....and I'm a lifelong Vidorian. GO PIRATES!!!
 5.
fo -  oh -  niine? ???
area code.
 6. Three rounds deep in the playoffs, most of the team back next year and our own music video. Rarified air for us Vidorians. Great time to be a Pirate. Somebody had to post the link: [Hidden Content]
 7. I see my Pirates with a good pre-season schedule; we actually get somebody new to play us! Great job COACH Jeff Mathews! Kept BC on the schedule for the Orange County rivalry too. Outstanding. Anybody know much about Santa Fe and Clear Brook?
 8.
Livingston stays 20-4A. I guess they will try to bankrupt the districts.
I agree totally. Livingston is the one who's really getting it. Seems like BH was a better fit if they had to do it.
 9. I kinda thought the Ant Hill might wind up making the drive to our area this year. First time for seven teams as 21-4A.

Undersized, under rated, lion hearted. Lead the district in rushing and second in team offense. Three rounds deep in the playoffs!! Dumb question.
Everything that you stated about vidors line could be said about Kelly's to. Not saying vidor didn't have a better line than Kelly I'm just saying it seems like both teams offensive lines were very alike. Under rated, undersized, and fought till the end every play. Both teams also had a potent rushing attack it seemed like anyone with decent speed could have gone in the Kelly backfield and picked up significant yards.
Here's a stat i bet you can't say about the Kelly line. In every single one of Vidor's game the offensive line was out matches by atleast 50 pounds per player and 2 games we were outmatched 100 pounds per player. That means each player had atleast 50 or 100 pounds less than the guy in front of them and yet they were still dominating. Here
I'll look up the stats tonight but it would not surprise me If Kelly was outsized by that much.
The fact that Kelly plays private school footbal means that it is highly unlikely they faced teams that out weighed them by 50-100 pounds, aside from the week they played Liberty they would have faced 300 lb Omar Tebo, and 270 lb Ryan Melton
Liberty wasn't even the biggest team they played. How many private school teams have you seen? Every team we played in playoffs was bigger than liberty other than TCA. And St Thomas and Pius were bigger to I think.
Oh, BTW, did I leave out the fact they were predicted to finish LAST in district?

 12. Don Minton from the 1964 playoff team was as good as Vidor has ever had. Ken Faul from the 1977 team was also a beast. The running back from Vidor's district champion 1978 team, Bryant Harris, was most of the team's offense that year. Three yards and a cloud of dust. Two things we usually have; a good offensive line and a good running back.
 13. Good for him! Great school and I think it will be a higher profile playing in the Big 12. Again, the state of Oklahoma keeps one of its' schools from being Div.II by drafting Texas players.

There is a school board that had its role in creating quite a bit of that as well. And I know that Dr. Thomas' tenure will be scarred by a number of controversies (Calvin Walker, transportation department issues, hotelgate, etc).  But as he retires, I don't know that you can say that the Beaumont ISD is in dire shape.  Academically, the district has reached the status as high as exemplary and in fact this past school did enough to do that but for the unacceptable status of a single middle school.  Financially, despite the numerous scandels in which BISD was apparently overcharged, BISD budgetary wise is still in a lot better shape than many of its neighboring school districts. And finally, in the area of athletics while some of the hoped for goals have not been reached, the athletic department is anything but a disaster.  The teams regularly reach the playoffs and in some cases have progressed far.  It has ushered in a new stadium that is in demand for use not only for BISD district games, but playoff games as well and, in fact, was a coin flip away from being host to a regional final game this past season.  Further, that stadium is used by a neighboring district as part of its season opening soccer tournament.  In a time where some districts have been the target of TEA receiverships, layoffs, unacceptable status and being unable to guide through bond issues to upgrade facilities, there are some of us that are quite envious of the state BISD is in now.
What a great post! And no one from Vidor has room to say anything about BISD with the shape their district is in.
Well there budget should be in even better shape now that they got rid of his salary  ;) And please tell me what kind of shape Vidor is in Yeoj.
Forced retirements, lay offs, unrenewed contracts, and TEA coming in to reorganize Vidor's budget so they could actually operate financially. Maybe VISD should have asked Dr. Thomas to donate his raise to their budget. Lmbo  :D  What is that saying about people who live in glass houses that throw stones?
Correct me if I'm wrong but's my understanding that Vidor requested the services of TASB consultants as a proactive effort. That's different than TEA "coming in".
It's not worth arguing over mat. He's just an old man with a grudge against Vidor. He won't listen to reason.
How about let's all calm down and leave this alone. First, from someone in the know, the Vidor ISD is in excellent shape and we shouldn't be in this argument. Second, I have to agree with SoulJa and the others about BISD. Their schools are doing well with the exception of some of the business dealings. This is only a poor reflection of the administration and not on the rest of the school district. Let's limit our talk to football please and leave politics for another board.
 16.
I don't see JB as a possibility. More likely to be a coach from a smaller program. Flanagan(?) from Crosby, Matthews from Vidor, etc.
Not gonna be Jeff, you can count him out.
 17. Any of us that saw an event in the Astrodome was blessed. For me it was seeing Nolan Ryan pitch and Pink Floyd. Coming from the business I'm in, I know what it costs to maintain a large structure like that and I'm sure the city of Houston can't afford it. Probably need to take it down to the ground but even that may cost more than they can afford.

Also it was no disrespect to vidor fans but dayton getting called out by vidor was a little funny. Dayton has played in 23 playoff games since 06 and thats more than any 4a team in region 3  since 06.
One Vidor fan called you out, I didn't. Dayton has an outstanding program. However, this year's version of the Pirates would have beaten you. You wouldn't have touched the ball enough times to kick field goals. See Crosby.
I would rather look at how angleton handled yall wasnt it 55-30 and it took an onside kick and a meltdown for dayton to lose to angleton 35-27. So lets not compare common oppenents if you think vidor was a better team then we will have to just agree to disagree
Fine with me. I would rather see it on the field. Just happy to be having a conversation of this type rather than being on a fishing blog.
INSTEAD OF BUILDING A STADIUM FOR THE DYNAMO THEY SHOULD OF RENOVATED THE DOME BUT I THINK THE NEW STADIUM HAS MORE TO DO WITH OLYMPICS. STILL THINK IT WOULD OF MADE A GREAT SOCCER STADIUM.
I do too BRONX ROX. Soccer was my sport of choice for over 35 years. I think the MLS wanted something smaller with an outdoor atmosphere. I saw the LA Galaxy in the Rose Bowl back in 2000 however, I enjoyed seeing them more last year in the Home Depot stadium. Same model as the rest.
 20. Maybe afraid of sea sickness from the ferry ride. If someone knows why, put it out there. Being a lifelong Vidorian, I'm sick to death of people cancelling games with us or refusing to play us for whatever reason. It's happening way too much lately, the past is the past. Hope Texarkana has an opening on their schedule or we can find another Catholic school.

 22. From what I saw on the Carl Padilla site, we will be 21-4A with seven teams in district instead of eight. Livingston is moving to where they belong. No Dayton (and I'm one of the people who DON'T want them in our district). One purple team is enough.
 23.

I was told school board would not allow them to play those two teams. Wonder why.
There is your answer. Did everyone miss that? If it was due to "strength of teams" or whatever, the coach, not the school board would have changed the schedule. This looks like Crosby all over again.
No offense ECBucfan but I sure hope you're wrong. I've had about enough of the racism crud.
 24.
If just one or the other (Vidor or Ned.) had came off the Ball schedule, you could certainly give Ball the benefit of the doubt. However, if Vidor & Ned were both removed simultaneously, you can bet this is racial Crosby antics going on at Ball. Really sad.
Guys, let's not jump to conclusions. It could be that Galveston Ball is struggling and not wanting to play two pretty good football teams that went three rounds deep to start next year. I don't particularly buy the racism thing because both Nederland and Vidor are racially intregrated schools. Especially after the beating Crosby took for it....
