1. Congratulations Pirates!! We continue to improve as we move forward with this mostly junior team.
 2. I haven't even posted my feelings about coach of the year for 20-4A. Ya'll think I should start that one...from the team predicted by the rocket scientists of our area to go 1 - 9 this year and last in district.
 3.
The Pirates arent a team yet.  It will take some time before they gel together.  They had a good summer league and beat some good teams along the way, but now that things are organized, lack of varsity experience, maturity, and team play are showing up.  It really is what was expected early on.  I dont think that the Pirates planned on being 1-2 right now, but thats how it is.  Looks like Orangefield figured out that they had to put a lot of pressure on Reagan inside to keep him from getting his shot off, so he will have to adjust if teams keep doing that.  He averages about 15 a game and all of it inside and last night he was held down to 6 points or so.  Once the sophomores get better acclimated to varsity, they should take some of that pressure off of him....it just all takes time and hard work.  I know that Coach Sterling has them working on drills daily that will eventually get them to where they need to be.  Stay positive with the coach and the players.  They need us to encourage them.  They know that they are inexperienced and playing poorly bothers them.  It may be tough all year, but they are building a program that will deliver good results.
In the third period, I though we were trying to force the ball too much causing turnovers and we were extremely lazy on guarding their 3 point shooting. Something that can be improved. We played well inside....just need to locate that shooting guard and get in his grill.
 4. Soulja, you goin' to the WOS / Coldspring game?
 5.
Montana, Jakobi and several others are probably sitting back laughing at all of this and thinking that we are crazy. We can debate this til they graduate next year. I look forward to seeing just what they have in store for us all next year. It was a great season and I'm so ready for the next one!
From our side of the Neches, I don't believe Montana cares as much as I do. I'm passionate about our kids and always will be. He was playing basketball Tuesday night against Orangefield and seemed happy and determined with that. For my part, I hope he puts on 25 lbs. of muscle this summer and takes his vengeance out on 20-4A next year for their indescretions.
Got no problem with that if you make Montana MVP. How are you a leader on both sides of the ball and not MVP? Totally agree with you. Seems to me the voting wasn't done according to the stats or the obvious for that matter. I have no idea what these individuals based the voting on but they didn't get it right. Period.
Exactly!  They did not get it right.  Period.  If a player dominates on both sides of the ball, they are the MVP.  Period.  The voting is biased and wrong.  If the coaches voted, they voted wrong.
Again these are your opinions just as well as the coaches had their opinions. Continuing to go on and on about it won't change the coaches opinions nor will it change the outcome. GET OVER IT! I'm sure none of these kids are so concerned about it as the adults are. I could honestly see if there was a full ride scholarship or something to that affect tagged along with the nominations but all it is is a picture in the newspaper and something else for the adults to argue about. All of these kids had a great season and I don't think that it takes a coach's vote to tell them that. Some people on this site go to sleep bitter, wake up bitter and be bitter all day long. I won't slight any kid because of my opinion. Congratulations again to the kids on a job well done.
I'm not bitter about anything sir, just stating the obvious. Don't have a dog in the fight.
 7. We have a lot of work to do but I expect better things from the team in the near future. New coach and a mostly junior and sophomore team. No excuses however, we have a lot of work to do....
 8.
Most of our teams and district mates are out of the playoffs, but these Titans and Mustangs are still on the move.  Lets root them on and show them the same love as we've shown Ozen, Nederland, and Vidor.  Will any of you be in attendence?  Lets do it for these Titans and Mustangs!
Headed to see the 'Stangs Friday night. Gotta show love for the OC baby!!!!
 9. Done deal, BrenhamFan. We are looking for land right...somewhere around the CS area. Chilifest rocks!!! And, I am about as diehard of a fan as they come. However, I've bled black and gold for over 50 years now.

I expect we shall meet again possibly next year as you have an excellent team and coaching staff! I look forward to it! BTW, it's niether here nor there as they say, but the "tunnel" that you guys run out of at the start of each half (don't know the technical name for it) is one of the coolest, & most intimidating I have seen all year! Looks eeeeevil. ;D GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR PIRATES!!!!
It's pretty cool, huh?  We love it!!  When the smoke starts and the boys run out of it and in to the smoke it is AWESOME!!  My kids LOVE it!!  I work with somebody from PNG and they said the same thing, it looks evil and creepy!
Vidor's tunnel is pretty cool. The Vidor crowd also impressed me at this game. I wish PN-G's crowd would get that into the game.
I know you guys and Nederland as well get into football just like we do, but as I tell people all the time, there is nothing like sitting behind the Vidor Pirates.  The crowd is awesome, the feeling is amazing, it's truly like no other.  I have always wanted to sit across from us on the other side of the field just to hear how great it sounds when everybody chants....GO PIRATES, GO!!!
Same here lol. I often wonder how loud we really are.
I had to endure sitting across from our side when I was dating a girl from Nederland many moons ago. We are extremely loud!!!!
Sure is...  Snook's about 25 mins from Brenham.  Pretty darn good steakhouse there, called Sodalaks.  They even have their signature dish, chicken fried bacon!  Lol
I've eaten there myself, BrenhamFan. Great steakhouse. Pretty little central Texas town. I have to hand it to you, ya'll live in beautiful part of the state. My wife and I are moving there when I retire. Mind if I become a Cubs fan and watch some of the games when we move??
I will say it sure was nice to hang out on the football boards for an extra 3 weeks tho ;-D Wouldn't it be nice if that became a habit :-D
I think that we're really close to seeing it come to fruition. Playoffs two of three years and really should have gone in 2008. Most of the team back next (especially defense). Now, I just want to see the basketball team get back to the levels of acheivement I know it can reach and I think we have the right coach to do it with.

 16.
I wouldnt say that the kids would be penalized for playing football and then coming over and playing basketball.  Its just a tough thing if you just came out of football at a high level and expect to be at a high level in basketball.  Montana is a rare athlete that can and will start, Im sure.  Heck, maybe as early as tomorrow night in Orangefield.  I believe that Larry Sterling will put his best players on the floor and expect them and the subs to go out and perform to the best of their abilities.  No matter if they were there last week or not.
Agreed. See you tomorrow night in Orangefield.
 17.
Thanks Coach Hatch and to all outside of Vidor who supported the Pirates. The support was definitely noticed and appreciated!
I was wondering if this was Coach Hatch who put togethor incredible defensive schemes for us in the early 2000s.
 18. I would like to thank you as well, Coach Roark. I sure would like to see us get a home and away series with these guys, I think it would be good for the team. Angleton was a class football squad and they definatley have a great coaching staff. I wish them well in their run for a state championship.

Montana only had 500 yards less rushing, threw for 200+ yards, led his team three rounds deep into the playoffs and even punted the ball on occasion and was only the Defensive MVP of 20-4A (let's not forget he was also starting linebacker)? I'm sorry, is something wrong with my math? Not taking anything away from Beaumont Ozen but they needed Mr. Quirante's heroics to even get into the playoffs. Sorry if I sound a little jaded but I just don't think Jakobi deserves it over Montana. Trey Green was a bigger leader for the Panthers.
Partly vs. Livingston, partly because Montana was stellar ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL. The MVP award should be not only about who did the most for their particular team but also who stood out of the crowd in district. But, my thoughts are solely about the MVP of the district and not selecting the kid I thought was most representative; if you would pick Jakobi over Montana, put it out there. Montana started both ways every down 100%. MVP. Name the person in this district who did more. It is only my opinion for what that's worth...
As I stated. I agree with you. Only wanted to get that out of the way so no one would misinterperet what you wrote. If I recall, most of the posters have gone with Montana for MVP for quite a while.
I'm sorry, I'm just teed off by the decision. It wasn't the right one, IMO.

 22.
major kudos to Jeff, the entire coaching staff and the entire Vidor Pirate team!! I have known Jeff since he came to Vidor under Pat Murphy and the Jeff from then, is the same Jeff we still have today. He's a great man both on and off the field. Nobody can make everyone happy so of course there will always be somebody who doesn't agree with everything. Very excited to see us next year as most of our boys are returning. Football season can't start soon enough!!!!! Vidor is VERY proud of the Pirates!!
You are oh so right Pirategirl4ever. I don't care what anyone says about Jeff, he has done an outstanding job with all of Vidor sports and I wouldn't trade him for any other athletic director in the state of Texas. We are a 180 degree different program than what we were in the 90s. Great times to be a Vidor Pirate!!!

 24.
Suspend the head coaches from both schools for the first 3 games next year, and no playoff appearance next year. This will get the coaches and players attention. I doubt these two teams will be allowed to play at Stallworth in the future. The one's involved this year should be sent to alternative school just like if you get in a fight at school That way the seniors this year get sort of punishment). To top it off, make both schools write apology letters to each other. This all seems harsh, but it's a serious issue that needs to be dealt with swiftly and firmly. I agree that LM shouldn't have to forfeit the next game. That's unfair to them since Ozen is out of the playoffs. BTW, I want to comment on the posters bashing the cops. You guys that bash cops are clueless, there are bad apples in every profession, but this was a situation where no administrator, parent, coach, etc.. has a say so in how the cops handle your students, kids, etc.. If you fight, it's against the law and the police have every right to take action whether you like it or not. If you want to buck the cops then you'll be dealt with either by more cops, pepper spray, taser, or whatever. The cops did the right thing with the least amount of force to control a situation that was out of control. They should've started putting some people in jail to make a point, but they didn't and you still have people crying about the cops. Obey the law!!!! ok, off my soap box.
I totally agree with every bit of this. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. Make the punishment stick to any high school sports program that resorts to brawling. If the penalty is high, it will stop. The Baytown Police had nothing to do with the causitive factor (the fight); they were doing their job maintaining order. I'm sick of police bashing in this country. Probably the toughest job there is.
