6. Agreed. Dayton has one of the top 5 programs in the state.
 7.
I'll be broadcasting the Vidor/Angleton game (play-by-play) Friday night, then broadcasting the Ozen/LaMarque game (color) on Saturday afternoon. I'll finish my weekend with a trip back to GPISD to do a live game blog of the Nederland/Pearland Dawson game Saturday night.
Hella weekend....AAR, you're a junkie....

BTW, I want Dave Campbell to pick us LAST in district next year. You getting this Dave. Vidor=last in your next year's book.
 9. Thanks Mark! Great Post! I believe we saw two very well coached football teams hit the field and it was extremely enjoyable. Angleton will have to really show me something to prove they're a better team than you are; you're the best team we faced this year, IMO. Jeff Mathews demands respect and discipline of his players as well and our kids adore him. Many of the teams we face (Bmt Central and Ozen) meet with us after the game in the middle of the field for a team prayer. It was the idea of Jeff and Donald Stowers, Central previous coach, to do this and the kids love it. Perhaps now you guys will put us on the schedule for a pre-district series next year. We have problem getting teams to play us pre-season; you know, that stupid stigma thing from 50 years ago.
 10.
Its the same reason nobody wants to see LSU and Alabama in the BCS title game. From the outside, its more impressive when you have 70 points scored in a game. It took overtime for LSU and Bama to score 15 points combined, but they are the two best teams in the country. Nederland makes plays when they have to. We turned the ball over too much in the Stratford game. It shouldve never been that close. The redzone turnovers kill you. Most teams dont overcome that, but teams with good defenses can because you dont have to play catch-up. Ill take this type of Nederland team over a flashy offense any day. Think about the 4th quarter effect. A great defense will set your offense up to grind down the opponents defense. By the 4th quarter, when that defense has been on the field a lot, it benefits your offense. Goes back to the saying, "the best offense is a good defense."
In my humble opinion, I couldn't have said it better. Every one of the district games this year was a knock down, drag out fight to the end that could go either way between the four teams. I believe that PNG had an easy game with Ozen because they were missing Trey Green when they played. However, I also believe PNG would still be playing if they hadn't run into a very good, well coached Dayton team.

Get a good young coach who cares about your community and keep him there long enough for him to build a program. Don't even think about Jeff Mathews, though. I got a good deer rifle and you won't make it across the Neches river bridge with your offer. BTW, the morons in Crosby just let a good one go...
IMO, Hardin-Jefferson has that coach already in current AD/HC David Martel.
Agreed.  For them to lay this problem at Coach Martel's feet is a complete joke.  The attitude in that community is basketball, basketball, basketball and all other sports are just there to pass the time until basketball season rolls around again. And that is okay....if the community can live with that, I as an outsider have no room to complain about that attitude.  BUT, when that attitude results in your other sports teams getting routed on a regular basis, don't come back and THEN blame the coach for the goings on!  That is just a WEE BIT hypocritical!
Me too. If Martel's assignment is to build HJ sports in general then give him time. If it's to support HJ basketball, then he's doing a great job. Can't have your cake and eat it too....
 12. Love your dude picture. Is it from the bowling movie Bridges made? (the name of the movie eludes me)
 13. aight AAR. special week; a lot of area football teams are still playing ball!!!!
 14. I believe the Pirates resemble the Pittsburgh Steelers. Good, solid defense and a great running game with a bruiser at fullback. QB who can run or throw. Same colors as well.
 15. Prayers for your mom, hope she is doing well. God bless.
 16. wait, last I counted, Dayton has EIGHT on the first page, we have four. I should change it to those sickening Dayton message threads. Leave us Vidorians alone. Just because we're the first ones drunk at the party...just sayin'.

 18. liltex, when and where will the preview show be?
 19. Prayer after the games between both teams....it works.
 20.
More like MVP of 4A. This kid Is unreal Guidroz at Kelly reminds me of montana. He can and will play anywhere on the field. And he's on both sides of the ball every game. Has started at QB CB SS FS RB WR KR and PR this year. And is good at basketball to him and Montana are both just phenomenal athletes. I saw someone at HEB the other day with a shirt on that said "The Asian Invasion" with a picture of Montana on it. I found that to funny. Haha
Montana has an "Asian Invasion" shirt he wears himself. He and his family like the notariety and the fun. I still say the "Asian Invasion" is the real deal. One series of plays: Montana drives Vidor @ QB to the Montgomery 40 where it's 4th down and four. We go into the rugby punt formation with Montana back to do the punting. He punts the ball to Montgomery's four yard line. Montgomery, who has learned a new found respect for Vidor's defense, line up in the shotgun, QB runs for his life to right, throws and Montana intercepts for a pick 6. Again, did he also march at halftime? And, it looks like we had plenty of quality H2O on the sidelines...did I mention again he's a JUNIOR!
 21. C'mon guys, where's the love??? They do make the best ice cream in the country....but I bet them cows ain't happy right now.

Port Neches would've been a national park....
Not all of them. There was one in Port Neches Park that was excavated I think in the 80s.
history is sort of a hobby of mine....there may still be another in the area.  However, I would like to have seen those. I understand people use to take the train from Beaumont down there to collect arrowheads, etc. We just didn't know about preserving our heritage in those days.
Same here. Anything from the Civil War on is in my purview. Port Neches was the only camp site for the Indians in Jefferson County. We were taught in elementary school about the Attakapa and Karankawa tribes that lived there, and that's where I remember the story about the mound excavation from.
That lil' mound ya'll call a town has a lot of history to it.
