[move]GO BRONCOS, REPRESENT 20-4A!!![/move]
Did you mean 19-4A or did I miss the joke?
Broncos used to be in 20-4A and beat one to get where they are. 20-4A by proxy.
 2.
La Marque 28 Ozen 17 The caliber of teams out of Brenham's district is not even close to 24-4A's. I wasn't overly impressed with them before this weekend and their dismantling this weekend just validated my thoughts of them as I stated earlier in a post.
Doesn't look like they were 20-4A's caliber either. Beaumont Ozen has some athletes and they are gellin' right now. I wouldn't count my chickens....just sayin'
 3.
Trey Green:  The QB that led this Ozen team to hold on and make the playoffs in the last week of the season.  I believe he missed some time early in the year, but he still had 1500+ yards passing and 16 TDs.  They upset Barbers Hill behind an amazing performance by Green at QB.  He can make throws short and deep.  And his WRs had some drops all year or his stats could have been much better. Playoff wins over schools with a combines 20-1 record
20-4A Offensive Player of the Year. Nothing against Trey, he's a good kid, but Montana plays both ways and is also our leading tackler. IMO, hard to argue against Trey's stats at QB and both are LEADING their respective teams in the playoffs. Ain't this fun!!!!

Port Neches would've been a national park....
Not all of them. There was one in Port Neches Park that was excavated I think in the 80s.
history is sort of a hobby of mine....there may still be another in the area.  However, I would like to have seen those. I understand people use to take the train from Beaumont down there to collect arrowheads, etc. We just didn't know about preserving our heritage in those days.
 5. Hey Fellas, try this one on for size and see how it feels: [move]VIDOR PIRATES---AREA CHAMPS![/move]

 7. daddy23, no doubt who the MVP for 20-4A is, biased opinion or not. One series of plays: Montana drives Vidor @ QB to the Montgomery 40 where it's 4th down and four. We go into the rugby punt formation with Montana back to do the punting. He punts the ball to Montgomery's four yard line. Montgomery, who has learned a new found respect for Vidor's defense, line up in the shotgun, QB runs for his life to right, throws and Montana intercepts for a pick 6. Again, did he also march at halftime? And, it looks like we had plenty of quality H2O on the sidelines.
 8. revenge of 1964, you are the man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 9. Several (I think seven in all) of the 1964 Pirate Texas State semifinalist football team went on to give their lives for their country in the Vietnam War including Don Minton, the star running back. When you sit in the stands next Friday night enjoying your respective teams, please remember all those who fought and died to make this still the greatest nation on earth.
vidor 22 west orange 0 San Marcos Wins On Penetrations HOUSTON, Tex. (AP)-San Marcos and Vidor battled to a 21-21 tie in a Class AAA semifinal schoolboy football game Saturday with San Marcos winning on penetrations 5-4 and advancing into the finals. San Marcos jumped to a 21-7 halftime lead but Vidor deadlocked the score with two second half touchdowns. Larry Tllton missed on a 37- yard field goal for Vidor with 2:16 left in the game. San Marcos got the winning penetration with just over eight minutes left in the game by moving to the Vidor 17-yard line before a pass interception halted the drive. It would not surprise me in the least if Vidor stops Angleton's offense.  They are really THAT good.  They are disciplined.  And they don't know how to quit.
TOTALLY impressed with Vidor on BOTH sides of the ball this year.  Go PIRATES!
IMO, we remind me of your Indians from the 70s. Not big but quick and flawless execution. You guys were a treat to watch back then. Followed you all the way to the State Championship in '76. Crazy times at the Astrodome back then. A sea of purple....22-4A (now 20-4A) supported the teams back then as well. 49000 vs. Memorial. By the way, ya'll know Montgomery's band tried a feeble attempt at playing ya'lls' Indian song in the fourth quarter...guess they thought it would scare us.
 12.
20 -4A IS ONE OF THE TOUGHEST DISTRICTS IN THE STATE ! THAT'S WHY NEDERLAND, VIDOR AND OZEN ARE ALL MOVING ON TO ROUND THREE. THEY WERE PLAYOFF TESTED,PLAYING AGAINST EACH OTHER. JUST ASK THEIR OPPONENTS RESPECTIVELY ! CONTINUED SUCCESS !
Agreed! It was "smashmouth" football every week. There weren't any let ups on the district schedule. Livingston would have easily made the playoffs in another district.
 13. Hey daddy23, was Montana marching with the Band of Bands at halftime???
 14.
If you go into a game thinking you aren't supposed to be there, you have already lost. Other teams seeing Brenham lose today makes them rethink their own superiority.
Heck of a statement! I don't think anyone is taking our district lightly anymore. Should be a little buzz this week around the state....
 15. The Panther DEFENSE is what's bringing them through the playoffs. Close game, Ozen 21, Lamarque 14. If I remember correctly, Lamarque runs an offense similar to my Pirates.
 16.
Hey, so who is better? 19-4a or 20-4a?
Please....here we go again....
 17. I think Raines from Nederland needs to be in the Offensive MVP discussion.
 18. isn't Magnolia West another one of those crappy overated teams from 17-4A?
 19.
They didn't even shake hands after the game. Word is that Cornel didn't want one of our kids to get into a fight with all of their taunting and get ejected and be able to play next week. It was a good call, some of the things their players were doing would goat the most disciplined players into a fight. One of their players ripped our LB helmet off, stuck his hand in his mouth and tried to rip his bottom jaw off. His mouth was bleeding from both sides after and the kid got up and ran off the field like he stole something and was getting "high five's" from the coaches and other players... I hate to talk about kids, but they were just a bunch of PUNKS! But they got punked in the end...
What a shame....why not try a team prayer instead....says a lot for our society anymore. Way to hold your head high Mustangs. It's in the past and doesn't deserve your thoughts. Prepare for the next conquest!
 20. What's really a shame is that we leveled the mounds to build our refineries. Port Neches would've been a national park....
 21.
Might be a reverse sweep for 17-4A this week.  I never would have thought that could happen.
Lightning struck. They are officially out of the playoffs.......

You deserve it by winning more district games. I'm not a fan of 4 teams in the playoffs in a district with 8 teams. It teaches mediocrity. Three should be the max , IMO, in a district with 8 teams, and 2 teams with a 6 team district. Sure it's great that Ozen is doing well, but I bet there are not many other 4th place teams still in the playoffs. It's more the exception than the rule. Growing up, I can never remember being excited in the 100m dash when I finished in 4th place out of 8 runners.
Fellas, I don't think the issue is sending so many teams. It's the fact that Texas has so many kids in school it's hard demographically to make districts that are fair travel and otherwise to all the teams. It's either we take 4A and make two divisions out of it or we make 4A or add more As on the top end (7A?) and the teams travel across the state according to their size. There are a heck of a lot more kids and schools now than there were in the 70s when I was a kid. It's no more unrealistic now than when we (Vidor) had to play in a 5A district in the 90s when we had the same number of kids as PNG or Nederland. We played in 4 team districts in the 70s. Simple math.
I understand where you're coming from with travel and all, but back when you and I played, only the best team (s) made it to the playoffs, and it made it so that every game in district was important. Football (and sports in general) teach kids how to approach life. For example, I've observed a lot of young kids who want to work a 30 hour week and get paid a 40 hour week. Just look at the direction our country is going. I know AAW, we are suppose to discuss this in the political forum-sorry.  8) For me, it's more about the bigger picture...Again, JMO.
Read my signature. The older generation always thinks the younger generation is gonna destroy the world. It hasnt happened yet. Kids are kids are kids, the kids now aren't much different from kids when you were growing up.
So what happened to the Romans?
They became Italians 8)
Dang guidos....LOL. well, it could be worse, us Cabins got kicked out of two countries. Only reason we stayed in Louisiana is because no one else would dare live there. Haha.
Hey, I resemble that remark!!
 23.
And to think that on this very board, more than a few folks were calling for a new coach in Vidor a couple of years ago....... :o. Jeff Matthews is a quality AD, coach, and most importantly a quality man.  He loves his players and is very complimentary to players on opposing teams.  Congrats Jeff and all the super coaches he has hired for his staff!! 8) Keep it going Pirates!!  Orange County and 20-AAAA is supporting you all the way!!
Yea, it's a shame some of the things the coaching staff endures from fairweather fans. I watched Jeff start building the Vidor athletics programs starting with football of course, but some of the other coaches he has hired. Let's not forget that Jeff started Brian English's career as a head coach, he has an outstanding baseball coach in Kyle Green, we have quite a few state champion powerlifters (Bolinger) because of Coach Burks, etc. etc. etc. A lot of Vidorians knowledge of sports is limited to what channel ESPN is on. Jeff and his staff are our treasure and we need to do everything possible to keep them happy here in Pirateland.....
 24.
Angleton is very well coached. Coach Roark is arguably the best coach Angleton has had in the last decade and could go beyond that. They do a good job of holding on to the ball and the QB is pretty accurate. 19td's to 4 ints. This is going to be a hard nosed, smashmouth football game.
Agreed!! Sounds like very similar programs. Again, $6 well spent.
