Jeff Mathews and his staff should be 20-4A coaches of the year, not because of their preparedness for the games or their game plan but how they brought these kids through all the adversity. I mean, how much can a bunch of teenagers endure and stay focused through the season??? I'm sure they won't have any problems come awards time except where to hold the banquet.

How many Pirate fans were at this game? 8000+? I don't care who the home team is on paper against Angleton because we will be. This is a total community effort and you know it has to affect those kids on the field.

Da Kats will be just fine with their new young coach. You showed your heart would carry you through to the playoffs when everyone counted you out. Hope we can keep each other on the schedule.

He runs our Pop Warner offense to perfection. Rushes for 100 yards per game. Threw for over 100 yards against Montgomery. Plays middle linebacker and blew up several of the Bear's plays tonight. Has two punts under pressure in playoff situations that wind up inside the opponents five yard line. Plays every down. Makes a keg of quality H2O. I even saw him marching at halftime.... Just got home from what was the greatest football game in Vidor football history. Montgomery has a great team and are a class act; what a comeback in the end! Thanks Mark Barnes from what I can see was great coverage. Met BrenhamFan tonight and I think we may have a new fan....he may not admit it but I'll bet his cubbies don't wanna play us. Great game by all the kids however tonight the shout out is to the Pirate coaching staff. I have never seen us prepared for games the way we are now. Maybe now some of you 17-4A teams will play us pre-district??? Sure would love to see a Montgomery or Brenham series.

Good article, thanks for posting it octfeb. However yourhoustonnews missed one thing. Montana Quirante (aka, the Asian Invasion), like most of the Pirate football team, is a junior.
