One of the biggest reasons why they don't go to pool play is because they host the girls tourney at the same time. They have 16 girls teams. They would have to use some high school gyms to get all the games in if went to pool play. it seems they just don't have enough volunteers or just don't want the extra headache with hosting more games.
Also, there are 7 other local tourneys (20 in all that we cover) that take place next week. Several teams that have played in the YMBL in past have chose other tourneys to play. Reasons?? I have been told several.
BISD/YMBL just needs to either split the weeks for the girls and boys tourney, either just do a girls or boys or go to pool play and limit the girls tourney to 12 teams. This way you could do pool play for both boys and girls and still play at Montagne, McDonald's and Ozen HS.
But hey, what do I know about running tourneys.

I do one of those every Wednesday night before the preview show to scare AAW and WOSgrad.

Same as collegiate or pro teams from today vs. the 1970s/80s. Doug Ethridge was a great coach but those kids weren't any bigger or faster than me; I know I competed against them. Our biggest guy was 250 lbs. on offense line and got a full ride to LSU. This was the year that PNG won state, 1975/76. Y'all beat us 26 - 22 and we were down to your 8 yard line when time ran out. No comparison; 2015 Lumberton would run up the score on that team. I'm the one who lives in the real world.

Vidor: 5 on offense, 5 on defense. Notables: Colby Humble QB.; Haylon Leckelt RB on offense. Maverick Quirante back next year on defense. Knee has healed and he is looking good on the basketball team. I believe at least the fourth spot would have been ours had he been well for his junior year. Good JV and Freshman teams. We'll see how it works out.

You need to take a look at the scores in the championship games the last few years. Not many state champions keeping their opponents under 20 points.

BTW, I don't see PAM coming into 22-5A and being this world beater all of sudden. They split with Ozen and Central this year neither of which were that great. Unless PAM gets better coaching I feel their situation will be the same as these schools. Central can match athletes with anybody, and I do mean anybody, but can't make it past the first round of the playoffs. Is Xbox the man to give PAM the automatic 22-5A championship? I'm not buying it, sorry.

14.2 and I FINALLY agree on something. This is the exact reason you can't advance past the area round unless you have some very, very special kids. Hard to play both ways against good teams especially if you suit up less than 40 kids on varsity. And, as Buddy Garrity likes to say, it's all about match ups.

Awww dang it, last time Carthage came to LU it rained a bit smh, ironically enough they were the visiting team too. Oh well, I'll be on the Carthage side blending in with red on. 

There still may be some cause for concern. How did PN-G score more than 30 points? Silsbee may have some defensive problems early on in the season.

This is interesting thought for realignment. This is what someone came up with.
I decided to go with history and split Austin area in Region 3 and 4.  I looked at 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014 and in each realignment, 3 Austin districts were split in regions. 

17 - Bastrop, Cedar Creek, Cedar Park, Rouse, Elgin, Hutto, Dripping Springs, Marble Falls, Pf Connally.  9 teams

18 - Bryan, Rudder, Consol, College Station, Georgetown, East View, Temple, Waco, Waco U.  I originally had a 6 team district with GISD, WISD, Temple and MF.  But I realized that this was the only 6 team district in the area, whether 6A or 5A and thought that they would have a real trouble scheduling non-district games, so I slid MF over and joined up the current set of teams.

19 - Brenham, Magnolia, Magnolia West, Huntsville, Willis, Tomball, Tomball Memorial, Waller.  8 schools

20 - Caney Creek, Humble, Kingwood Park, New Caney, Porter, Splendora, Crosby, Dayton.  8 schools

21 - 3 FBISDs, 3 LCISDs, Manvel, Shadow Creek. 8 schools

22 - 7 HISDs

23 - Angleton, Baytown Lee, Galena Park, Galveston Ball, Barbers Hill, Santa Fe, Texas City.  7 schools

24 - Beaumont Central, Ozen, Lumberton, Nederland, PA Memorial, PNG, Vidor.  7 schools
 

Carthage had a good fan showing against WOS in 2013 at the Butch and it's an easy drive for them. It's the boudain that has them playing here! I gotta make up my mind who I wanna see.....decisions, decisions. Everybody playing on Friday again.

NO. They would get slaughtered. PNG won state during the 1975 season; if a kid weighed 250 on those teams he was a monster. They are bigger, faster and stronger than we ever hoped to be. The 1980 PNG team would have hell with Lumberton or Vidor from 2015, much less 2015 PNG.

My take on it is back in th 50's through 90's there were alot less schools. Texas population has exploded and the metro areas have grown to incredible numbers. There are so many different schools opening up and tons of folks moving to high income suburbs where they are creating heck of football programs. SETX pulls from families that were born and raised in those areas with not much influx in population at all. After a while the well dries up until you get that special group every 10 years (except WOS).
