Saying they treating players like pieces of meat and would get beat by 14U teams wouldn't be something I would think an alum would be doing.
I'm not talking down on Silsbee. That's in general around here... So many HS coaches use the kids instead of get them prepared for college. And about the 14U teams beating Silsbee, I'm not taking anything away from Silsbee... But I'm honest... There are 14U teams that would compete in our district... It's irrevelant but it's true.

He didn't just play middle school ball. He played in 74 games with me this year since Feb. against some of the best teams. He will be ready for the speed of the game.
But you can't compare playing against 14 yr old on the AAU circuit to play against 17 an 18 yr old that always a big Difference especially the style Silsbee play of a non stop running  :o got dizzy thinking bout them running
Yes you can... The teams in this district this year, absolutely. I'm not sure if you understand AAU basketball or not, but we played against teams that would finish top three in this district as a 14U team. What do you think AAU basketball consist of? Running running running... Plus most 14U teams are actually 15 because they were held back or failed. If your telling me that the top 14 and 15 year old teams can not be compared to HJ, WOS, HF, Silsbee, Buna, OF, BC... Your out your mind.
So you are saying that some of the aau 14u teams would beat either HJ, Silsbee or WO-S this season, or two of three, or all three? I am not buying that and yes, I have seen aau games. I believe the experience of the players and the coaching on the sidelines would be too much for those 14u teams. I'd be willing to bet all three of those coaches (Sigler, Sutherland, Wilkes) would have a definite advantage over the opposing aau coach. ;) You giving aau too much credit in this situation. McCain will definitely be a varsity player this year and will get plenty of playing time (may even start a few games while the football players are still in playoffs), but don't see him being a regular starter this year. Next year and beyond, he will be the man.
For a fact there a few teams that would beat Silsbee, HJ, and WOS... Especially this year. You haven't seen the teams play that I'm talking about. I understand your point... Hell, 2 years ago I would laugh at anyone who said that. But now that I've witnessed it 1st hand, I'm telling you, it would happen.

Hardeway, Grubbs, Brooks, Jenkings, Haynes, Wallace, and McCain should get a lot of playing time and a chance to start. I wish McCain was playing football!!! I told him he should play.. So if your talking about me your wrong.. When he told me he didn't want to play anymore, I told him then don't play... It's not about what everyone else wants him to do, it's about what he wants. And if people/coaches/fans/sports "specialist" can't respect that, then they don't need to be a part of the kids life. We get caught up in winning and not focussing on the big picture... It's a shame.

Been a part of this kids sports life a long time, he is just as important to football as he is to basketball. I wonder if he talked to some past basketball players that where good in football also and see how they liked it? Can't be scared of injuries, they can happen anytime. He can dream big in both sports.
I understand your point, but understand mine... He don't want to play football anymore.. There is nothing wrong with that. He is a human being, not a piece of meat for Silsbee to use toget wins... Respect the young mans decision and support him... Maybe Silsbee should start focusing on getting these kids ready for college sports and adulthood rather than using them to get wins.. Just my opinion.

They might start over him for reasons that none of us will understand, but when the game is on the line and the best 5 is in, he will be in. Silsbee does not always start the best 5... It really means nothing. But he should start since he is top 5 on the team.

It all depends on where that player stands. I agree with the comment above saying that if he is top 10 he should be on varsity. But another factor you have to keep in mind is the kid. You don't want the kid to play varsity and sit the bench and get bored or unmotivated. Trust me... that happens a lot.. Certainly different things to consider but what needs to happen is the kid, parents, and coach need to sit down and talk about it!!
WRONG!! It is completely up to the coach to put the kids on the varsity team that will most help the varsity team win games.  It does not have anything to do with what the kid, parents, or anybody else thinks in the matter.
Wrong... Coaches like that are the coaches who ruin the fun and excitement of for certain kids.

 16.
How many points did McCain score? How is he on defense. Anyone inviting these kids to.camps outside of SETX?
I'm his AAU coach. We are the SETX Heat. McCain is a 6'0 gaurd that plays great defense. Fantastic athlete.. I am working on getting him and his little brother all the exposure possible. As well as the rest of my team.
 17. Obviously a kid started this, but who cares? Lol. There are ALOT more than just these two for the future of Silsbee basketball. Silsbee has crazy amount of talent coming up. More than I ever remember and I've been around here for 12 years. Michael McCain is a very special athlete who is going to do extraordinary things. Dontre is going to be a great player for Silsbee. There are 2 many kids to name and I don't know if their parents want their name on this website, so I'm going to stop there!
 18. We have a very strong future. The talent coming from all the way in the 6-8 grade this year is probably the strongest in a very long time. Next year might be a little rough, but after that I really see Silsbee starting a huge run.
 19. Wos SILSBEE HJ Mvp: Page Newcomer will be Freshman Michael McCain
 20. The talent coming from 7th and 8th grade is honestly fantastic. I coach these kids on my select AAU team. I honestly believe that next year will be on of Silsbee's weaker teams, but they will still compete for the district title and make the playoffs. Now the following year will start a run that will be very successful in my opinion. Have y'all witnessed Silsbee's little dribbles? It's going to be very exciting to watch for the next 6 years.
 21. Wow. I disagree big time with a lot of things on this list.

They are good BUT to be moved down to 3A AND have recruited players.. They are not that impressive. I was impressed with their athleticism but not their basketball team. Hey, but whatever you have to do to win state championships, you do I guess... Great win tonight Yates. I was impressed with your 3 point shooting and your Free throw shooting! Silsbee, maybe we should start recruiting players from other countries and states!? Naww it's ok. We will just play it the right way :). Great season silsbee. Love y'all.
::) ::)...FACT #1: They have not lost to a 3A team all season.....FACT#2: SILSBEE will definitely not win a state title! ;).....I think that they just might have a SHOT to win a 3A state title....Conventional wisdom tells me THAT much... ::) ::)
Ok.. In my above statement did I say they have lost to any 3A team? NO. I said they will not win state. Dallas Madison will beat them if they meet. Yates will not win state. Even if they do, hell they should.. Look at them.. A Houston school with players from all over the world... Hello?! A little small town like silsbee shouldn't be able to compete with that.
A bitter post that morphs into a moral victory post. Cool
No.. It's not a moral victory. We lost and that's it. No excuses any all. Yates foreign exchange students and other recruits hit free throws and our small city boys missed theirs. Quite simple buddy. Cool
OK, it didn't even rise to the level of a moral victory. I think you're shortchanging the Silsbee effort, though
Not at all. That's how silsbee plays right there! With alot if effort. They played their butts off just like we expected. We out played them. Just missed 20 free throws and Yates hit theirs.
 23.
No moral victory for Silsbee, they were in it till the last 3 minutes of the game. They had their chances, but could not convert in the end. Dickie V, We all know you love the Brag and tell everyone how smart you are, but you were wrong on your prediction of the score. ::) The Tigers hung with the mighty Yates team for 29 minutes, so go a head and tell us how Yates manhandled Silsbee ::) Hold your head up Tigers, y'all have nothing to be ashamed of.
Agree 99% they are ashamed that they missed 20 free throws but they know that they outplayed the "almighty jack Yates" lol. I hated to see this, but it is what it is. Great post Fran
