  1. 1-AA would give Lamar a chance to renew old rivalries.
  2. When did Lamar play 1-A? I don't recall them playing 1-A. They wer in the Southland forever it seems like, and joined the Sunbelt after they had already killed Football. I couldn't disagree with you more, this area will support 1-AA just as Lake Charles has. D1 is not the answer to crowds. Just look at ULL's crowds. According to the NCAA site there are 115 1-AA programs and 11 of those are in either Texas or Louisiana. [Hidden Content]
  3. You can't say Lamar won't support 1-AA. Lamar did nothing to nurture the program before. You must go at it full tilt, leaving nothing to chance. If Lake Charles can support McNeese the way they do, there is no reason Beaumont and the Golden Triangle cannot support Lamar in the same style. A lot has changed in the 17 years or so since Billy Franklin and George McLaughlin killed the program. I WISH THOSE TWO ONLY THE WORST!!!
  4. Iowa State @ Iowa LSU @ Auburn Michigan @ Notre Dame Miami @ Louisville Oklahoma @ Oregon Texas Tech @ TCU Arizona State @ Colorado Florida @ Tennessee Nebraska @ USC Clemson @ Florida State
  5. Alright, There is nothing wrong with 1-AA. In fact I would love to see games with SFA, SHSU, Texas State, and McNeese come back to Beaumont. No One is going to buil a domed stadium, you guys actually talked as if that were going to happen. Matter of fact, I don't believe anyone in Texas plays in a domed stadium. McNeese plays 1-AA and game days over there are something to see. Let's worry about getting football, period. What they are going to need is: 1. A very good SID(to drum up interest BEFORE game day.) 2. Media Support ( Front Page & Lead Story) 3. Corporate Support ($$$$$$$$) 4. Fan Support (Fill the Stands) 5. Players (Local kids staying to play.) 6. Alumni (To rally around Lamar.) Football would: 1. Create the University environment, and add to campus life. 2. Be a source of community pride. 3. Give Lamar a reason to have a band, drill team, etc. 4. Give LU a Homecoming worth coming to. 5. And be a rallying point for the University. 6. Attract Students Just my opinion.
  6. I hope he redshirts, because if Brown returns, he won't get much playing time in the future. Why Redshirt? cause your going to be better in your 5th year than you were in your first.
  7. That's probably about right. I singled out Pachuca and Theriot because I have seen them coach, but don't take that to mean all of the other coaches needed to go, I am sure out of that many coaches, we lost some others that were good coaches.
  8. Don't expect a complete turn around in one year. We will have to wait and see, if there will be any real improvement. But I'll say this, at least the fans believe.
  9. I believe Lockler is the only remaining coach. There were some that definitely needed to go, but losing Pachuca and Theriot concerns me. They are both good coaches, and when you see them leave, you wonder if there is a problem.
  10. That was in response to this genius comment! "We all know the rumors about the similarity between your community and the movie Deliverance."
  11. Go Stangs you sure are a big fan, what year did you play and what position? BTW LCM is just like Orange without the riots!
  12. LCM will struggle this year. I was impressed with the skill positions, but they probably won't get t show what they can do, because I believe the offensive line will be to porous. On the defensive side of the ball they need to get more size on the d-line, and be more physical everywhere else. I think Moody will get the team improving, he just meeds some stability in his coaching staff. Hard to get any kind of continuity, when you have a revolving door in your coaching staff.
  13. Hey Coop, How many October Hurricanes have hit the Texas or Louisiana Coast? JT
  14. I think Dayton is in the mix with Ned, PNG, Ozen, and Central for a playoff spot. Unfortunately 2 pretty good teams will stay home. This early in the year, it is hard to say which 3 will go. It could hinge on a turnover, or just a bad game. One slip up in this district, and you might not recover.
  15. They were comparing Head Coaches(most of who are also teachers or AD's) to average teaching salaries. Not very fair to compare the top guy , who is usually performing two duties to the average teaching salary. We can all get off of the soap box now. One more point, I can remember having many conversations with my coaches about life, I don't remember having the same conversations with anyone else at school.
  16. Good Luck with it. Take it slow and take care of him.
  17. If I remember right, there was a stipulation, that if they sold 4000 season tickets, they would keep football. I believe over 4700 were sold but Mclaughlin and Franklin killed football anyway. McLaughlin obviously hated football. Later I remeber he spent over $100,000 decorating the president's house, even though they used the excuse of a tight budget to get rid of football. That year Alborn almost had Lamar over the hump. The lost 4-5 games by less than 6 points. One more year, and they would have had trouble killing the program.
  18. The fact that women's soccer was added, tells me that they are getting closer.
