  1. I used Ashley's story behind his helmet design where he had the Ozen name first. Doesn't bother me either way though...
  2. Not a bad idea! Still not in favor of the colors, resembles West Brook too much. Just talking to some of the kids briefly, they are liking the Hurricanes... OC Consolidated Hurricanes...
  3. Yea but how odd is it that Central and West Brook played football against each other every year except this year due to Harvey but were not forced to play a non-district basketball game? I wonder which coach was ducking...
  4. Very well put but I have a feeling this position along with many others won't be opened up for outside applicants. Longest tenured doesn't always equal to best choice for the kids or the program. Mike T if I had to pick between the 2...
  5. The district that they are put in, will make all the difference in the world. Being that football, besides volleyball, is the first sport to get things kicked off for the new school year, it is imperative that Ozen-Central starts out with a winning program. I say that because it will help the student body buy in to the merger. Everyone wants to be part of a winner. If they have 3 non-district games, 2-1 or even 3-0 is better than 1-2 or 0-3. Hopefully we can avoid North Shore and The Woodlands in district. Is the right coach Nelson or Taylor? Could be. But if either is given the keys to this new car, he has to make sure that all coaches are truly on the same page with him. How do you do that in this situation? I don't know. The good thing is that most of the coaches between both staffs know each other and many have coached with each other. I still think they should open it up and just see who all applies besides Foreman ... Basketball wise, give it to Mike T simple as that...
  6. I agree that Nelson is probably the best currently as for an in-house hire. If they manage to get that pay up from $85K to the state average of $98K, you'll get quite a few outsdie applicants...
  7. I can't locate the 6A cutoff numbers. Would Atascoita be D1 or D2?
  8. Looking forward to it. Just glad the days of being in a district with schools the size North Shore (4754) and The Woodlands (4435) are over with.
  9. Committee being formed to do this...
  10. It's a fact...until a new school is built.
  11. Sounds like I missed a good game, hate I missed it but I had to go to the school board meeting... Thanks for the updates.
  12. So something like this... Beaumont Ozen-Central 2460 Beaumont West Brook 2520 Channelview 2693 Houston CE King 2488 Humble 2279 Humble Atascocita 3641 Humble Kingwood 2659 Humble Summer Creek 2237
  13. I totally agree. I'm glad the decision was made so that the students, parents and staff can move forward. You know I'll be supporting the school and kids.
  14. I just took Javelina's prediction and just added the merger school to it. It's possible though. I would prefer a 8 team district.

  16. So Soulja and Aggies Are We, what week next year do you want Central to travel to Silsbee?
  17. Well if they let me without putting me out of the board room, I'll be live on Facebook with their decision and post it to here as soon as I can.
  18. I disagree. The majority of these kids already know each other whether it be from little league, church, elementary and/or middle school. I think a lot of these kids are tired of being average or below average when it comes to wins and losses and tired of loosing to West Brook in football. So if they have to come together to do that, I don't see it being much of an issue. Actually combining the 2 schools gives them a level playing field when it comes to the "Beaumont Bowl". You are right though that the RIGHT coach will get the kids to come out and play that were not playing for whatever reason. I think more of the parents have issues with merging than the students themselves. Like I've explained to my 4 that are in the middle of this, if a kid was a trouble maker at Central or Ozen, he or she will be the same if they combine. If a kid is at the top of the academic class, then a merger should not change the way he or she feels about their grades. The only sport in my opinion that may not benefit too much from the merger is the boys basketball program. Both schools have solid basketball programs year in and year out. All the rest, girls and boys, should benefit in my opinion.
  19. I agree, it should be opened up but hey stranger things have happened over the years in this district. I've also personally discussed with the AD about what it would take to increase the head football coaches (if we just have 2 high schools) to at least the state average for 5A and 6A of $98,000 salary. $100,000 sounds better and you might be able to draw a few more good applicants to a 6A school with some talent, making 6 figures.
  20. I agree on making the decision ASAP, like today, regardless of what it is. That way staff, parents and students can plan accordingly. I really feel like it was made back in August to merge and would be surprised with any other outcome. I do think the BOM's understands that athletics are not the top priority but that they are important in a school. I also agree, open up EVERY coaching position to outside applicants and go from there but I doubt that will happen. Well in all other school districts, the head coach makes his/her own schedule out for whatever respective sport. I do know that BISD currently has a rule in place that limits travel and opponents to 100 miles besides playoffs.
  21. It's on the agenda for the board meeting tomorrow night. Whether they actually officially announce a decision is a whole other thing...
  22. But then the phone call I received this morning said that the 7 million dollars plus anything else that is obtained will be utilized to do the merger. As I put on my Facebook page this morning, it's on the agenda for the BOM's to announce their official decision this Thursday night. I will broadcast it live on Facebook.
  23. He's a Tiger fan until his son graduates, then he'll be welcome to sit back on the Jaguar sideline after that...
  24. Naw, the kids have adjusted fine and will be fine to the current situation. If you think back to when we had 2 high schools, the 9th grade campuses were separated. The Central kids would much rather stay where they are then to merge. I say just leave them like they are until a long term solution is figured out. Plus this way, I hear Silsbee will be playing Central and Ozen...
