Alpha Wolf got a reaction from Hagar in Coaching Carousel
Just for the record, I did go to last months school board meeting after our season was complete and voiced my opinion. When the AS found out prior to the meeting that I would be speaking at the meeting about this matter, she tried to cut me off with a 20 minute 44 second phone call prior. And I'll be at the next one doing the same thing...

Alpha Wolf reacted to understand in Beaumont West Brook 57 Beaumont United 54/FINAL
You have combine Ozen and Central let's give the kids and coaches time, lol this is not AAU or Summer basketball. As I remember Silsbee and Memorial are the only teams to have go to State and won in the last 20 years and Memorial coach came from Green and Green started at Silsbee . West Brook played up like the6 would against Ozen and Central. Green has sets for offense and a defenses system the kids will get it down but I do understand I'm UNDERSTAND when a team lose the coach can't coach and when they win he has great players.

Not many coaches in the state of Texas can say they took 4 different schools to state tournament.

Not taking anything away from Coach Boute. He's a great coach, no doubt. I'm not totally sure how many state championships he has; I'm thinking it is one, with Ozen. That team had one distinct advantage, they had a 6'10" 260 lb man child named Kendrick Perkins. No other team in 4A, now 5A, had a player anywhere close to that size. Lincoln had Bosh, but I am not sure he was around the year Open won state.
As for the coaching selection and hiring of coach Green, that's a done deal. I am sure they did their due diligence and they came up with the best coach for the job. Hindsight is always better than foresight.
One of the coach's biggest problems is he has to deal with this message board, because it gives voice to all the negative armchair ADs and coaches in the 409 area. He didn't have that problem at his previous job.

Great post and I agree a 1000% percent except for the part I put in bold. It depends on what community you live in because in mine, it's the opposite. But I do understand what you are saying, it's why our volleyball teams finish at the bottom every year and basketball near the top or at the top...

Alpha Wolf reacted to Mean Machine in Mid Season SETX Top 10
I witnessed the absolute crushing of Lumberton personally, this past Friday. As a father, it was difficult watching one's daughter get thrown in harm's way like that, but I admire the way she and the Lumberton young ladies competed as hard as they could against that Juggernaut, lol. No doubt HJ is really good, as is United, there is only one way to semi-accurately gauge who is the best, a head to head match-up. Does not look like that was in the cards, for whatever the reason....
As I said earlier in the post, if all goes as I am seeing listed in Barbers Hill tournament Pool and Bracket play, United will get its chance to show where they are,for people with questions on them, with a likely bracket matchup with (#1) 5A Fort Bend Hightower on Friday, assuming both teams win their selective pool play games
I have watched a number of the young ladies on both of these programs over the years, as my daughter has either played with them in AAU, played against them, or worked out with them the last five or so years. Great to watch all these talented young ladies grow and improve right before our eyes. Good luck to both both programs as the season progresses.

Since my daughter is a part of this change at PNG, I can tell you my observation. It has been a culture change brought on by a young and hungry coach that the girls absolutely adore and have bought into the program. The girls all genuinely like each other and have a great chemistry. They have actually talked about holding each other accountable on the court and not taking anything personally when you walk off the court. They believe in themselves and in each of their teammates and aren’t intimidated by any opposing team. My understanding is Nederland has some talented players in middle school right now, but hard to keep them interested in basketball when they look at recent successes by other teams, ie volleyball, soccer and softball.

A strong Little Dribblers Program that works on teaching the young girls fundamentals and skills is a good place to start. It needs to be a program where the world doesn't end if one doesn't win the mini-minor or minor championship, rather put the emphasis on the young players improving.
My daugther was a 4th grader at Lumberton when Vidor started their Little Dribble program back up. I remember her Little Dribbler All-Star Team Coach at Lumberton agreeing to scrimmage Vidor many times that winter and spring, because the Vidor Coach wanted to get their program up and running. It was not about wins and losses, it was about teaching the game to the children. My daughter is a 10th grader now, and through the years l have watched that group of girls at Vidor, that is within a year or two of my daughter, become a one of the hardest working groups in our area.
There has to be commitment from parents and most fundamentally, young girls have to want to play basketball. It is a sport that is not as glamorous as Volleyball, the sport where most tall athletic talent seems to migrate to. There has to be a group of girls that starts to play at a young age, and carries that through high school.
A large number of the high school players in our area that are really talented at basketball typically will also play AAU and train by themselves and with trainers for many hours outside of any school related practice. They have started this process before middle school. The analogy I always use is "The Iceberg". One only sees 5-10% of an Iceberg (i.e. a girl playing in a game), but 90-95% of the Iceberg is HIDDEN, (i.e. all the individual practice and training, AAU practice and training, etc.).
I have no doubt Nederland could build a competitive girls program, it is just going to take a committed bunch to push it in the right direction. Good Luck.

If PNG can turn around its program like it has then why can’t Nederland ? This result needs to be motivation for the future and Nederland needs to figure out how to be more competitive.

Way to go West Brook you made setx proud. I hope this is the norm for Beaumont from now on, they should be in the 4th round minimum every year. Google “most high school super bowl alumni” and tell me what you find.....PA and Beaumont at the top.

Even with the Loss this was great for the players of Westbrook,
A few players will receive some college offers off this game alone, the Exposure is excellent
hopefully this lets college coaches know Talent is heavy in Beaumont, as well as SETX

I just absolutely hate when you get to see players like #66 (Lobos Center). That is an embarrassment to their entire program....and I can assure you, he didnt just start that today. Anyone who watched knows exactly what I'm talking about. Anyway, Great job WB! You made our area proud!!

Start coaching to win instead coaching not lose , United was up 11 pts at the start of the 4th qtr. You have a division 1 guard no way in hell you lose that type of lead. Do you think if Boutte has what United has he would struggle hell no!!!!!! If ppl do not see the glaring problems then you don’t know the game, it’s the same things every game so it can’t be learning experience. Players have to be taught how to play especially this group of kids. You just can’t roll them out there with no offensive sets and the same predictable defense and think your giving your team a chance to win. It’s kids out there who trust what the coaches are telling so that means they haven’t bought in. Everybody ain’t Silsbee you can’t just out hoop everybody. They might finish 3rd im district but y’all think that’s acceptable because it’s just learning experiences that’s the exact mindset those kids don’t need stop giving out participation trophies nobody wants that stuff.
