Parents are out of control and have pretty much destroyed the purest form of sports which is high school. So glad my kids are out of high school.
I agree to some level, b/c I have seen a lot of parents whine about little Johnny not getting enough PT, and it's pathetic. If your kid is not playing, tell him to practice more and try harder. I believe a big reason HS sports is no longer the purest forms of sport is b/c coaches recruit (like college) and parents send their kids to another school for a better opportunity. I understand why a parent may send his/her child to another school, but I am still against it. I guess I don't like it, b/c that is not the way it was when I was in school 25 years ago. You represented your community, and nobody ever considered transferring for athletic purposes. The ONLY reason one would change schools is when your parents had to move for an out of town opportunity for work. Now kids change teams like a NBA player. I remember when the team I played for wasn't very good one year, so we got together and made a difference by playing all summer long. There was a guy (now coach-won't name him b/c i don't want to hijack the thread) who called everyone daily to tell them when and where we were meeting to play. Without his leadership, we would have stunk again. Back then, we didn't have summer leagues, tourneys, AAU, etc. We ended up going to the playoffs that year. My point is that instead of just working harder (these days), people look for the easy way out (and that is towards life choices in general, not just sports). This mentality will continue in their lives which will lead to a lack of loyalty for their job, team, family.  8)
Great post.
 3. Dove, I applaud you for moving your son out of HF. Way to much drama no matter what the coach did. They will never be happy with any coach. This coach Neil, it won't be long and HF will be hating on him also. There is also a lot of drama going on with another school in the district. Not the same situation but they are trying to get rid of the head football coach and girls basketball coach. Sad society we live in is all I can say.

Volleyball is like soccer is to football. Kids want to play a sport that takes less running. ;D ;D Can't wait to hear from my ole friend on this one. LOL!!!!!!!
Not sure what you mean soccer is much more running than football and they must do it Dec-Mar while everybody else is indoors playing basketball?
You got me on the running part. My point is some kids are leaning towards sports that take less physical activity. Soccer is worse than watching paint dry. By the way Volleyball is too. ;D ;D

 9. Lamarque is not the only school, I promise. There are many across the United States that are a lot worse. Not taking up for Lamarque but if you think this does not go on at most schools you are sadly mistaken.
 10. You guys are missing the big picture. Yes, every school trash talks that is the problem. Not only in football but every sport. Do you guys see what is going on in professional sports? These kids feed off of that. Not many role models anymore.  Society has changed and not for the good. It is slowly getting out of control. The worse is yet to come, prepare yourself is all I can say. Parents don't stay married, many kids have single parents. It is a struggle every day and I don't see it getting any better, I hope I am wrong.
 11. Back when I played trash talk was not allowed. Sure it went on sometimes but very little. We did our talking on the field with our play. The problem to me is these kids see professional athletes doing it and they think it is OK. I also know that people are tired of hearing "The Back in the Day" stories but times were simplier back then, Plain and simple. We all had jobs during the summer, there was no summer workouts. We worked out on our own. I do realize some kids still work but how many athletes work anymore? I think that number is very low. I will be honest I did make my son work because he did not play football after his sophomore year but I did not make my daughter she played basketball year round. I wish I could do it over again. I would have made her work.

I don't, most are jealous of a successful program. I will pull against you guys when you play teams from the golden triangle but other than that I hope you guys kick everyone's butt.
LOL!  Ok, I will take that bit of support, K!  Hope OF gets its issues worked out.
I don't see OF getting its issues worked out till 2013. LOL!!!!!!!!
 13.
La Marque is classless! A bunch of gang members and thugs. My brother teaches their and he can verify everything I tel you. Their drop out rate is like a Black Friday sale! Most kids come to school when they want to and they are well below all their test scores. Half of the football team is over 18 and their grade point average is pushed to a curve to make them all able to play. Come on son!
Little harsh there Badsanta.  ;D ;D

It's up to the parents whether or not the school has permission to paddle them.
I agree, they make you sign a paper every year stating if they can discipline your kid or not. But schools are so scared of lawsuits that you can ask many school districts and most will tell you that they don't dare paddle kids anymore. They have ISS, what a joke.
Putting these kids in "TIMEOUT" will not work!
Right on again.

The way things are these days, I would hate to be charged with "paddling" an unruly student.  Many of these kids have access to guns and knives (the way us old-timers had access to baseball cards and bubble gum)..and they think nothing of using those weapons against someone who was "disrespectful" to them.  Back in the day, when a teacher reprimanded a student either verbally or by corporal punishment, the student for the most part learned his lesson (even though maybe it took several times).  Many kids nowadays  don't respect nor fear their parents, let alone respect teachers/coaches or anyone else in authority.  Sad state of affairs but that's how I see it.
I agree also YankeeDawg.
